Focus Home Interactive and Dontnod Entertainment have released the first four screenshots of Vampyr, showing the streets of 20th century London.
Vampyr is set in 1918, during the peak of the Spanish flu that laid waste to London’s once bustling population. Here’s the story overview, via Focus Home Interactive:
Following the First World War, Europe is crushed, with its remaining cities ravaged by a foreign influenza. It is spreading through London’s alleyways and streets, diminishing her numbers daily. As her inhabitants shutter themselves attempting to avoid infection, only saints and fools remain outside. Those that remain lay as prey to a new predator, schooled in war and deadlier than influenza: the Vampires.
Unbeknownst to her inhabitants, they prowl among them, blending into the coughs and anguished cries of London’s despoiled, post-War clean-up and restoration efforts. With a city once again under siege, it has never been easier to hide, but so too has there never been a better opportunity to come into the light!
Here are a few more details about what you’ll see in the screenshots:
The first screenshots of the game showcase the game’s world, as the Spanish flu laid waste to London’s once bustling population. Every character in the game has his or her own unique back-story and will affect the world. Be careful who you choose to hunt, as they will be gone forever, and their death will impact in a meaningful way the world that surrounds you. Feeding on human blood will not just keep you ‘alive’, it will also unlock new vampiric powers to use. As a Doctor, and a Vampyr who used to be human, you may also choose to heal your potential prey, crafting medicines from items collected in the game world.
There will be times when exploration and seduction will only get you so far, and you’ll need to resort to engaging in Vampyr‘s dynamic, melee-focused real-time combat. It blends hard-hitting melee combat with supernatural vampire powers. Find and loot materials and components from the fresh corpses of your victims or during exploration, in order to craft and improve tools, melee and ranged weapons, as well as special ammunitions and coating to exploit the weaknesses of your enemies.
Vampyr is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.
