The past few days' biggest stories.■ Star Ocean 5 first details, Famitsu screenshots
Star Ocean 5 was announced in Famitsu this week for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, with tri-Ace developing. The game follows a young man named Fidel and his childhood friend, who come across an amnesia-stricken girl. It’s set between Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 3. In addition to Famitsu’s low-res images, two high-res ones also came out.
■ Star Wars Battlefront reveal trailer, launching November 17
Star Wars Battlefront is launching for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17. The release date actually leaked a day before its planned reveal. And first screenshots and details came a couple of hours before the big reveal trailer. 40-player battles, ground and air combat, first and third-person, no campaign.
■ Kingdom Hearts III news set for D23 Expo Japan, series smartphone announcement teased
If you were worried Square Enix wouldn’t take its Kingdom Hearts series to smartphones, worry no longer. The company is planning an announcement soon. On a brighter note, we’ll hear more about Kingdom Hearts III at D23 Expo in Japan this November.
■ Project X Zone 2 coming west this fall
Bandai Namco officially announced its followup to last year’s Project X Zone for 3DS. The sequel adds new characters like the Yakuza series’ Kazuma Kiryu and Majima Goro, and Leon from Resident Evil 6, and it’s due out this fall.
■ First look at Taiko Drum Master: V Version
A new Taiko Drum Master game is coming to PS Vita in Japan on July 9, and it will have songs from anime, games, Vocaloids, and more. Get the confirmed song list here, as well a look at the box art here.
■ The Witch and the Hundred Knight Revival leaked
Nippon Ichi Software launched a new countdown website this week. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t do a very good job with it. The flash file for the countdown included a logo for the still to formally be revealed title, which is The Witch and the Hundred Knight Revival. Platforms are currently not known, but we should know when the countdown officially ends.
■ Saint Seiya: Soldiers’ Soul coming west this fall
That newly announced Saint Seiya game is coming to North America and Europe for PS4, PS3, and PC this fall. It follows the storyline from the “Twelve Zodiac Temples” arc to the battle against Hades and “other surprises.”
■ Dungeon Travelers 2 coming to North America this summer, Europe this fall
Atlus is bringing Aquaplus‘ girl-centered PS Vita dungeon RPG Dungeon Travelers 2 to North America this summer and Europe this fall. As Fried, you’ll form a party of female warriors and put a stop to the recent monster uprising.
■ Bloodborne sales top one million worldwide
Sales for Sony and FromSoftware‘s PS4-exclusive action RPG Bloodborne topped one million in 11 days. The death count must be in the zillions.
■ Amnesia: Memories coming west in August
In an unexpected move from Idea Factory International, the company announced its first otome game localization with Amnesia: Memories for PS Vita and PC. It’s coming digitally and August, has a trailer, too.
■ Tales of Zestiria coming this fall with dual audio, first English trailer
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Tales of Zestiria, but Bandai Namco confirmed the game is slated for a fall release on PlayStation 3, and will include both English and Japanese voice-overs. The first English trailer was also released.
■ J-Stars Victory VS+ release date announced
Come June 30 in North America and June 26 in Europe, anime and manga fans will finally be able to get their hands on J-Stars Victory VS+, Shonen Jump’s 45th anniversary fighting game (why you no playable, Chitoge?!). It’ll be available across PS4, PS3, and PS Vita.
■ Godzilla game release date announced
Bandai Namco’s Godzilla video game will launch for PS4 and PS3 on July 14 in North America and July 17 in Europe. The PS4 version will have an exclusive online multiplayer mode and even more playable monsters than the PS3 version.
■ Rise of Mana producers tease various preparations for series’ 25th anniversary
The next console Seiken Densetsu (Mana) game might be upon us yet. The producers for the smartphone and PS Vita versions of the free-to-play Rise of Mana have said preparations are underway for the series’ 25th anniversary, and that the next proper game is being made.
■ Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim dated for PC
Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim will be available on PC for the first time in the west on April 28. The PC version will have exclusive features not seen in the PS2 version, including high-res visuals, widescreen support, a new translation, and more.
■ Koei Tecmo trademarks Deception and The Nightmare Princess in Europe
More Koei Tecmo localizations are seemingly underway. The publisher trademarked Deception and The Nightmare Princess in Europe, suggesting that its Deception IV: Another Princess released for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita in Japan is coming westward. And not only that, it looks like the PS4 Nobunaga’s Ambition game is also headed overseas.
■ Hyperdimension Neptunia U release date set
Hyperdimension Neptunia U will launch for PS Vita on May 19 in North America and May 22 in Europe. The PS Vita game is an action-based spin-off of the series, developed by Senran Kagura and Onechanbara developer Tamsoft.
■ Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3 coming to PC this fall
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Generation is coming to PS Vita this summer, but Idea Factory International are already confirming a PC release for the fall. The PC version will have 1080p graphics.
■ Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 PC release date set
The PC version of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation will hit Steam on May 19. Like its prequel and sequel, it will have 1080p graphics.
■ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt goes gold
The Witcher 3 won’t get delayed again, promise. The game has gone gold, which is game industry phrasing for “completed development,” and it’s ready for its May 19 worldwide release.
■ Shadow of the Beast first screenshots
First images of the Shadow of the Beast PS4 re-imagining published by Sony came out this week. And they reveal the game to be a very bloody side-scroller.
■ Idea Factory and Felistella form business alliance
Idea Factory and Fellistella have worked together in the past on the development of the Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth games, but the two companies have now formed a new alliance, allowing each to make use of each others’ game development know-how to expand development of consumer RPGs and the like, including the creation of new IP.
■ Ray Gigant details Yorigami companions, battle distances
In Ray Gigant, each protagonist has a weapon-like companion called a “Yorigami.” Bandai Namco detailed all three of them, as well as showcased how battles take place from different distances.
