Two new characters, Fusion Skills, more introduced for Disgaea 5

Three new classes shown off as well.

Disgaea 5

NIS has pushed out a new update for Disgaea 5. While much of it rehashes old gameplay content that should be familiar to series veterans, it nonetheless introduces two new Overlords, as well as the Fusion Skill system and a handful of new character classes. Catch our abridged translation that trims the old fat below.

New Characters

Disgaea 5

Christo (voiced by Junji Majima)

“You can call me Christo. I’m on a mission to go out and whack Void Dark for my own reasons.”

Christo is an Overlord who’s said to be affiliated with “a certain enormous Netherworld.” Keen on Killia’s latent magical powers, he plans to try and make use of them to assassinate Void Dark. An excellent tactician in his own right, he’ll stop at nothing to come out on top.

Disgaea 5

Zeroken (voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara)

“Outta the way, amateurs! Leave The Lost to a professional like me!”

The self-proclaimed disciple of the legendary Goldion the Demon Fist, Zeroken is a short Overlord who prefers to take on The Lost by himself, often appearing before Killia and company during battle to save them without them asking for help. Although he can be seen as someone who gets carried away by his own hype, he’s nevertheless a flexible fighter on the battlefield, able to adapt his demeanor based on who he’s facing.

New Gameplay System: Fusion Skills

Fusion Skills are a new type of move in Disgaea 5 that Killia and other major characters can use when they’re adjacent to one another and team up. What actually comes out when they band together depends on the relationship that the two characters have with one another. Killia and Seraphina, for instance, as quasi-lovers, can combine their respective ice affinity and charm to pulls off a “Subzero Heartbreak.” Magnus and Zeroken, meanwhile, as vigorous, masculine men, can use “Tempestuous Flames,” an attack that combines fire and wind to attack enemies in a cross shape. And Usalia and Christo can team up for “Curry Break,” a quirky move that’s befitting their more quiet natures. Naturally, these aren’t the only Fusion Skills in the game. As the story progresses and characters get to better know one another, they’ll unlock new Fusion Skills to unleash in battle as time goes on.
