Two Story Beats for Two Protagonists

As you’re likely already aware, Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea has two playable protagonists and while their storylines might take place within the same setting, they nevertheless have different objectives that need fulfilling and as such their respective plotlines undergo different developments as time goes on. But when they do come together, that’s when the ring of fate really kicks in for them. To emphasize these points, we’d like to fill you in a little on what to expect at the beginning of each of their stories.

At the start of Shallistera’s portion of the game, her hometown finds itself in dire straits, as their water supply is drying up. In search of a way to fix the issue, Shallistera takes it upon herself to pay a visit to Strard. But when she gets there, she finds that Strard has come upon hard times too and is as such in no position to help. Down but not out, she remains on the lookout for the best solution to her problems while still remaining cognizant of everything that Strard has to contend with. During her travels, she meets plenty of people, including those who know of her home, and calls upon them for help as she struggles to figure out how to make things right. As it turns out, working out Strard’s problems will also ultimately help Shallistera save her home, making her all too eager to help however she can.

Shallotte, meanwhile, is running short on money while her good friend Miruca is as busy as ever with her training. Perhaps a little jealous and impatient, this difference in circumstances drive a wedge between them, something that isn’t without some sadness for Shallotte. What’s more, at first the only work she can get is collecting garbage from Raoul, another source of yet more frustration. In search of something that only she herself can do, she spends her nights lost and contemplative. Still, ever the spirited one deep down, she’s not one to stay miserable for too long, even if she does have a tendency to act recklessly as a result. Soon enough, though, the town finds itself facing a serious issue, granting Shallotte the chance she’s been looking for all along. With her mother’s blessing by way of a weapon given to her, she sets off to work in earnest.

The two girls end up meeting each other when a Sand Dragon begins to terrorize and injure scores of people time and again. Upon meeting Shallistera, Shallotte finds herself inspired and wanting to help, and the pair end up bonding as they work out how to go about addressing the issue of the Sand Dragon menace. In time, they manage to bring other allies on board their quest and together they to face down and hold their own against the Sand Dragon in an effort to protect Strard and its beloved people.

Level Up Characters Your Way with the Growth System!

The types of things you can upgrade range from standard stat parameters like speed to things like assist and skills, allowing you to power up your characters in myriad ways. After selecting a character from the Status menu, you can hit the triangle button to bring up the Growth System screen and go to town. In the end, it’s entirely up to decide how your characters mature, whether it’s by maxing out abilities or going for a more even spread. The choice is yours and that’s what the Growth System is all about!

Questing and the Motivation System

By fulfilling Life Tasks that are classified as “Desires,” each of the leading ladies’ Motivation Gauges goes up, bestowing you with some notable perks. These can include better harvests in the form of more goods to extract, increased movement speed, and having your Burst Gauge preserved after battles are over. On the flip side, if you let their Motivation Gauges dwindle, you’ll find that your yields for things like harvests and alchemy will go down little by little, so it’s good to indulge the two Shallies and keep them happy when possible.

Yet More Character Events to Sift Through!

Through them, you’ll see sides of characters that they aren’t prone to displaying very often while they’re out working with you. There are plenty such scenes to look forward to, but here’s a tiny sample of some specifics ones that we’ve prepared for your perusal:

  • Keithgrif has some admirers in the form of Shallistera and Shallotte, who ask him to teach them their ways in the hopes they can acquire just a little bit of his immense power for themselves. Although infamous for not being one to wean himself off of his tobacco, bit by bit he’s learning to replace it with something that won’t damage his body, thanks to an incompetent pupil of his.
  • Ever the wise and level-headed woman, Linca takes up a job from Nadie that manages to take Shallote by surprise. What’s more, Linca has questions surrounding her birth and her time to learn the answers to her mysteries may well be coming.
  • Albert has been a close friend of Shallotte’s and Miruca’s since childhood and as such is routinely brought to tears by them. Obsessed with revitalizing Automaton technology, he figures out how to get them back into mass production at a scale only a person like him can manage as the son of a company president.
