Nintendo CEO talks to Bayonetta 2 developers.

Rather than focus on a specific game, the latest Iwata Asks focuses on a specific studio: Platinum Games.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata asks Platinum Games executive director and producer Atsushi Inaba and company president and CEO Tatsuya Minami about how both creators got into the industry, their first experience with video games, creating high-quality products, and what it means for a game to be “made in Japan.”

Inaba already started doing light programming back in his elementary school days… This made me feel vastly inferior to the man, but at the same time, I also realize how admirable he is. And damn, the video game industry seriously isn’t a freaking joke. I feel like crying just imagining myself in Minami’s shoes (back in his early days.)

By the way, suppose Kamiya does show up at one of the Iwata Asks in the future, I do wonder what he’ll say. I wonder if he’ll “let loose a bunch of complaints” like Inaba said.

    Thanks for sharing.

For those who didn’t know, Atsushi Inaba started as a programmer in Irem. A small group of them left the company and decided to have their own studio named Nazca. That studio became more known as the creator of Metal Slug (notice the named “Nazca Corp.” at the bottom of the title screen from Metal SLug 1-3?).

After the first Metal Slug, SNK acquired them which is why Metal Slug became an SNK IP and everyone at Nazca, including Inaba became staff of SNK.

Inaba said that he became part of Samurai Shodown team (he didn’t mention which SamSho he worked on) but he didn’t enjoy working at SNK which is why he left and went to Capcom.

Now I wonder if Inaba didn’t left SNK, do you think he’ll produce the same kind of games he’s handling now at Platinum?

Here’s that old interview where he mentioned that he did work at Irem and SNK:

Thanks alot for the share. A great and ever more encourages my desire to get in this industry. Now that I have just finished my last semester, its time to look for that first step to finally enter this industry.

Platinum, always reminds me of how much grand talent Capcom lost over the last few years.
