  • I used to own what (at the time at least) i thought was the Xenogears Bible. It outlined, in Japanese, what was supposed to be the whole Xenogears story. I lost this bible. Someone help me find it again!

    • Was it any of these?

    • Skerj

Like Sal posted, you had Perfect Works mah boy. I still get sad over what we could have gotten every time I look at it.

    • fallen

       Someone translated it on flickr.

      • That’s awesome! Thanks for posting this.

I wonder if I’ll find time to read it all… lol

  • DarthBrian

For those that might have missed it last week, here’s the first 7 minutes of Evangelion 3.0 that just released in Japanese theaters last week.

    • Charlie

      I love you.

      • DarthBrian

         aww, shucks. :3

    • xMCXx

       Fucking thank you! xD
Hope we get the Blu-Ray soon!

  • Locksus
This will be THE game for the PSVita, right? The game that will get the Japanese interested in the Vita.

    • xMCXx

Hayao Miyazaki once compared touch screens to masturbating.
Now I know what he meant…

    • Not sure which I find more funnier…. The gameplay itself or the woman playing it…

Oh Compile Heart, you never cease to amuse and entertain me at the same time…. And now I suddenly remembered why I like Japan so much….

    • DarthBrian

       want. O_O

Question! And I would be very happy with anyone who answers!
Ahem…so, what ages do you think M-rated games are acceptable for? I’m meaning just the pure multiplayer and none of that online stuff. Games like Halo, Call of Duty, Twisted Metal, Dead or Alive, etc? To me, it seems more like most of those are rated M for the story modes and that the multiplayer modes are quite clear of excessive violence, language, and sexuality.
A month ago, someone at my library did not like Dead or Alive 5, even though everyone was enjoying the 4-player tag matches, because women fought men. I think it was just an excuse because the game is rated M. There’s a stigma against M-rated games as we all know. Since then, we can’t even play ‘approved’ M-rated games.
I would like some opinions or experiences because I’m trying to get some
M-rated games approved for a weekly library gaming program at my
library or at least for our teens only days. Even clear reasons why we shouldn’t use M-rated title will be welcomed. Please?

    • M-rated games are acceptance for 18 and above… As for the reason, avoid sending bad influence to the minors is a good reason I can think of… You know, killing people and all…

Since you mentioned Dead or Alive 5, I don’t think I need to explain why it has a M rating… Most guys play it for the female fighters after all…

      Which region are you from?
Because each region has its own sets of rules and regulations for the ratings… From what I know, NA is more tolerable, EU is stricter, Japan is the strictest while Asia has none…

      • DichaTesoro

NA region, rated M games are 17 and up.
You’re right about what you’ve said.
It’s a library though and we provide books, music, DVDs, and various media of all ratings and genres to all ages with no restrictions. We are supposed to provide the public with what they want. The kids enjoyed Twisted Metal, DoA5, and Halo 2 until we had to stop playing them. They play games at home like CoD and Mortal Kombat and will ask if we can play them at the library. As for DoA, boobs bounce—I’ve seen it—and the girls are quite clothed compared to the T-rated Soul Calibur series ladies. I see nothing wrong with the game for people ages 5 and up (the ages we get.) We did restrict Halo 2 to 10 and up, and Twisted Metal to 12 and up, yet now we can’t even do that.
Again, we are only playing multiplayer modes.
And what about a teen crowd, 13-19?

        • As long as the adults don’t mind, I don’t see the harm on playing multiplayer modes… Probably the one in charge is sensitive when it comes to the game’s content…

        • Kobracon

I don’t really see the problem with DOA. Sure boobs bounce and the unlockable costumes range from cool to risque, but in the heat of battle you don’t really notice.

Unsure about the Soul Calibur comment though. Sure Ivy comes to mind, but the rest aren’t that bad. In DOA theres Tina alone and then theres Christie.

    • fireemblembeast

I say, if its a library, which will obviously include an adult section with mild to very explicit books and DVDs about various *ahem* topics….there should be no problem of having games that are explicit. Its just because those strict old lady types do not want things to change because they hold firm beliefs, or something along those lines. It’s a form of media, just like books and movies, and so it should also have a mature section. They have openly displayed rated R movies, after all. They’re just in the adult section is all. So there’s no harm to the children, really…

  • Locksus

Oh, dear. I have an exam week and it started today with the English exam. It was quite difficult as I forgot a few words I should’ve remembered but most likely won’t affect my grade too much as it went pretty well overall, which I’m pretty happy about.

Tomorrow I don’t have an exam, which is a relief for me as I have to rehearse for my History and French exams. Good times, good times. It goes without saying that I’m pretty stressed right now :(

  • Adurna012

So just curious. Anybody have any guesses as to when we will start seeing some concrete development on the next Smash Bros? And do you have any anticipated characters you would like to see? Any new game modes? Anything?

    • fireemblembeast

I want Tales characters and moar Fire Emblem characters. And I want it to have more demos and songs, and stages from more series. Yup :3 Also, a better stage editor.

      • Adurna012

I would love for some Tales characters. I think its possible too; not only because of Namco’s involvement, but also because Abyss was released on the 3DS not so long ago…kinda lol. So hopefully they will at least put some Abyss characters (hoping for Symphonia mostly) to show some support. Would also like to see some Golden Sun characters. Love those games.
Definitely some more songs. I would even be ok with some sort of Music Download store where you could unlock or purchase new ones. And the stage editor on Brawl is crap. They could do so much more with that.

        • fireemblembeast

I’d like DLC too. I’m a sucker for DLC. DLC costumes is what they could do. Maybe ToX characters, too? :3 I’ll wait as long as they need to make a large roster.

  • Charlie

Hey everyone! I have a question, what are some underrated horror games that you think deserve more love? I’ll start with one of my personal favourites, Haunting Ground.

    • YangTerlupakan

My choice is Amnesia ; The Dark Descent

good choice, haunting ground is like code veronica but with no guns, pretty like true horror survivor in ps2 era
too bad the sales is not good

  • fireemblembeast

So anyone eating something other than turkey for Thanksgiving? Tofurkey? XD idk
I’m about to go shopping for Thanksgiving.

    • DichaTesoro

Chicken! And maybe hot dogs—Nathans Angus hot dogs were on sale today and I wanted to try them. Also, grapes, those were expensive!

      • fireemblembeast

Woah, grapes o.o..My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the mashed potatoes. Please tell me you have mashed potatoes! <:3

        • DichaTesoro

We are having mashed potatoes too! I do like mashed potatoes, but I would really like some potato salad too!

    • Kobracon

Don’t have thanksgiving here so prolly just normal food like Chicken Rice or noodles :/

      • Same here. Same ol’ usual dinner.

  • I got my copy of Persona 4 Solid Gold Edition in the mail. So pretty! I don’t have a Vita to play it on though. =(

I’m not opening it up for now, I’m going to keep it sealed.

    • DichaTesoro

Are you planning on buying a Vita in the near future? I would if Tales of Innocence or Hearts ever get localized. The only titles I am interested in right now for Vita re AC Liberation and Gravity Rush. And it would be nice if that FF Type-0 (not too sure of the title) rumor about it being localized is not just a rumor.

      • zakou

Same here i’m almost ready to buy a Vita, however AC isn’t really that good in Vita (imo) but Gravity Rush is amazing, a whole new experience!

And day one buys would be both Tales of games as soon as they hit US/EU not to mention i want YS games and that new Ragnarok game for VIta.

      • I’d like to get one asap. I plan to get the Liberation bundle as well.

I would love to get one tomorrow for $199, but I just don’t have the money for it this month. =(

    • new_tradition

Lol, I was planning to buy the Solid Gold Edition too, and I don’t have a Vita yet either, lol.
Of course than it ran out in less than a day *pouts*

      • Yeah, it sold out amazingly fast. I had planned to order it on amazon, but it was sold out super fast.

I was really surprised that I managed to get mine from gamestop.

    • Kobracon

Congratz…sorta. I’m planning on getting the game+special Vita package.

  • new_tradition

    I still have to get around to playing XenoGears….And XenoSaga 2 and 3…And Xenoblade Chronicles ;A;

    • Kobracon

      That….will take a while…. I take it you already finished Xenosaga 1?

      • new_tradition

Yes! Yes, I did! So it’s not totally hopeless *hysterical laugh* Right? RIGHT?!

Actually, I just never got around to buying ‘Gears or Chronicles. For XenoSaga, I got half way through Ep.2 before getting creamed in one boss battle and giving up. This was, like, 5-6 years ago >_<

So I already bought XenoSaga 3 waaay back, I just need to beat 2 before I can go on to 3.

*looks into the distance* And that is the terrible truth I haven't actually hidden, but you know, dramatic effects :P

        • Kobracon

Well I have good news! Xenosaga 2 is ridiculously short as compared to 1 and 3. Also playing 3 after 2 will blow your mind, so its all worth it.

          • new_tradition

Good to know. My mind could stand to get blown xD

        • PrinceHeir

you’ll enjoy the Xenosaga series :D

finished episode 1 on Dec 2010, then Feb-March Ep 2-3.

while Ep I is the most consistent.

despite the short comings of Ep 2 and 3. the series is amazing, and it’s one of the few JRPG games i enjoyed in english along with Digital Devil Saga.

though i still wish Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga’s version of the saga.

Xenogears was rumored to be around ep V while Xenosaga was divided to be multiple arcs.

Shion’s arc was supposed to be 2 episodes only.

the Xenosaga Ep I and Ep II we got was supposed to be only one episode. and Ep III was different and was supposed to be Ep II.

and Shion’s arc was to be put Ep I and II from the Xeno universe, while V is Xenogears, III and IV was to feature a different cast. and VI was the final episode.

there was a trade mark of Xenosaga: Frontier and Xenosaga: Exceed.

i believe this was supposed to be Ep III and IV of the Xeno universe, but it was cancelled by bamco.

oh how i wish the Xenoseries was owned by Atlus instead.

we would be getting demonic games as well as religious games!!!

  • whiteferrero

    Hi All!

‘Marvelous’ is gauging interest on whether people would like to get the sequel to Half-Minute Hero – with the surprising title of – Half-Minute Hero II localized.

If you’re like me and enjoyed the first game, by all means, please vote!

    Here’s the link:

And HAPPY THANKSGIVING all to the people that celebrate it (and even to those that don’t)! :)

    • Kobracon

OH! HELL yeah! I LOVE 30 Minute Hero.

  • PrinceHeir

I am finally manning up and will do something i have never done for the past 4 years.

im a little nervous, but i finally found my focus.

hopefully it’ll be successful by the end of the year.

btw i bought Sky of Final Fantasy Art by Yoshitaka Amano and ZOE HD Limited Edition.

i couldn’t post some pictures due to being busy with school and etc.

    • Best of luck with that, whatever that is. =P

      • PrinceHeir

i want you to guess what i am about to do :P

it’s related about approaching someone :D

        • Do it like Snake would! Sneak up in an old cardboard box and then use a Tranq Gun. xD

I’m just kidding. Seriously, good luck!

          • PrinceHeir

            haha lol :P

well she might be mad, and probably won’t talk to me after that :P

            but yeah thanks :)

that’s why im having insomnia and tend to sleep around 3 AM O___O

            • AdamBoy64

Good luck man. Hope it all goes well.

              • PrinceHeir

                thanks ^^

              • PrinceHeir

                though if i may ask.

how would you approach a girl in your way?

do you talk about general things like school and such?

                • AdamBoy64

The reply’s probably a bit late. But anyhow. I’m not great on the subject either.

But here’s what I think – ask her what she likes and the things she’s into – and questions about that. It’ll say a lot about her if she asks those same questions back to you and takes an interest in you.

But yeah, take an interest and get to learn more about her. That’s a good starting point I think.

                  • PrinceHeir

                    that’s great :D

so if i say can i talk to her for a minute, i should introduce myself, then ask something she like?

i’ll worry on how will i introduce myself and how to start the conversations.

definitely i have a plan on how i’ll start the conversation :D

                    thanks ^^

i meet at her on tuesdays and thursdays for class, so i have one day to prepare O__O

          • PrinceHeir

hey zero i want your views on how to approach someone :P

            • Oh lordy. lmao

I’m not sure if I’m the best person to ask. I’ve only had bad luck when it comes to dating. =/

              • PrinceHeir

come on any advice is good advice :P

                • Just saw this reply.

I don’t have a ton of advice, like I mentioned above. I suppose the best I can give is this –

Just be yourself, and don’t try to tell little fibs or anything to make it seem like you are perfect for her. Building any sort of relationship on fibs or little white lies is typically something that ends poorly. I see this happen all the time, and some of my friends in real life always pretend to be someone else on dates etc.

You are just fine the way you are, and it takes time to get to know someone. Both sides have to realize this, and give a relationship time. It’s very rare for things to go ‘perfect’ from the start.

I think telling the truth is a big deal, and don’t worry about trying to be cool or anything like that. Everyone is different, people are unique  we all share various hobbies and skills, and that is what makes us cool.

With all of that said, just try to be normal, I know that is tough, nerves really set in and it can be quite a bit of hard work for some of us. I think Adam said something really good in his response, just talk and find out what her hobbies are. Once you find a common bond, you can build a conversation off of that, and then you can hopefully continue from there.

I suppose it’s like trying to balance things out. You want to try and have both of you talking and having a good time. Not just a one sided thing, where only one person does all the talking and stuff.

Sorry about my advice kinda bouncing all over the place. I hope this helps some.

                  • PrinceHeir

don’t worry, i don’t plan on revealing some identity that im not.
i’ll just try to be myself without acting like someone else.

yeah, i can see why it will continue to haunt them either way.

well i just hope i would at least be able to start some conversation first.

i hope she’ll say it’s okay to talk to her for awhile.

yeah, i think it would be exciting for me if i can get to know what are her hobbies are just so i know what to ask the next time we talk.

yeah i feel my hear is getting those fluffy feelings whenever i think about talking to her.

yes i know im really really nervous :(

definitely gonna ask what are her hobbies for sure ^^

                    that’s what im afraid off.

i think i’ll be talking to much without her speaking and she might be bored and feel like a waste of time :

nah it’s fine, tuesday and thursdays is when we meet in class.

im scared to be honest :(

i have a full day t to prepare

    • Kobracon

Hey all the best, PrinceHeir. Just don’t show her that website we both visit >.> I can guarantee that won’t end well…..OR you might realise she enjoys it too, in that case never let her go

lol joking aside, good luck :D

      • PrinceHeir

        ahahaha oh you :P

nah i think she’s much too innocent looking to be doing that.

but yeah, you never know, but it’s better to take it slowly and more conservative as possible ^^

thanks, i just hope i can convey my message to her the right way ^^

  • z_merquise

Oh wow, Jehuty is in this week’s Open Forum banner! Thanks for this, Sal!

So how’s the DmC demo? I read a mix of positive and negative impressions but it sounds like a good game to me. Still downloading the demo while I play the Metal Gear Rising demo (which is definitely a day 1 buy for me).

Also, the ZoE HD patch for the PS3 seems to fix the glitch in the MG Rising demo. I played it a lot of times and I never experience any freezing so it made my experience in playing the demo a real blast!

    • Panda_castro

Play the demo, The controls were pretty complicated at first but then I switch some of the buttons around and the game became way more enjoyable. I was able to pull of some S rank combos but from what I seen they look quite easy to pull off. The only thing I could think of after I finish it was how much I hate the Unreal Engine 3 A lot of devs need to stop using that engine. At best I would buy it when its $20.

    • PrinceHeir

Rising actually froze me PS3 for some reason.

that’s when i took a break and played another game like RE6.

i’ll be back to play it again though ^^

      • z_merquise

There’s a patch available for the MG Rising demo. I remember that it downloaded when I ran  the ZOE HD game. I think for my dozens and dozens of playthrough in the demo, it only froze once and that’s right after the patch was installed. It didn’t fully fix the freezing glitch but at least it’s not as worse as it was before.

Let’s hope that there won’t be any technical issues once the game is released.

        • PrinceHeir

awesome, definitely checking it again :D

been busy playing Tekken Tag 2, Dead or Alive 5, and Resident Evil 6.

          hell yeah :)

are you getting two PLATINUM games next year?

          Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising.

          definitely getting both of these.

it’s a shame about the Limited Edition of Metal Gear Rising.

          japan has two editions.

they have a premium edition that has the game which has:

          A copy of the game.
Original soundtrack premium package edition. 2 discs inside a SteelCase.
          Yoji Shinkawa art book.
          2 magnet figures.
          Cyborg Ninja skin download code.

while the konami style has everything plus the Play-Arts figure with White Raiden(Black Raiden is sold separately)

          the UK version is similar.

          A copy of the game.
Play Arts KAI 30cm Raiden White Armor figurine.
White Armor Raiden DLC code, which adds increased capacity to carry life-recovery items.

and what does the US get?

a full copy of the game, official soundtrack, Limited Edition 2-sided Steelbook, and a stupid lamp that jacks up the price up to $149

you could get the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Edition which has a lot more value than this

seriously why not a separate edition that is the same as the premium edition of japan without the figure.

while for those who want the figure, they can buy a separate edition.

the lamp is just stupid and a slap in the face compared to the other region’s edition.

and you know what’s even worse? the gray fox skin is exclusive to gamestop.

          oh wow just wow.

konami US being stupid as always :

  • Kobracon

Anyone here ever played the Shadow Hearts series? Which one is your favourite? I personally love 2 coz it was the first I played. 3 was pretty cool to and it somehow manages a darker story than 2.

    • new_tradition

I played the third one first, then gave the first one a go, and even bought the second one.

Didn’t beat any of ’em, lol. Man, they were so hard for me.

But they were definitely an interesting blend of quirk and horror (well, managed to creep me out at times, but I’m a wuss xD), and how they encompassed real world settings (and people!).

But the connection between games confused me. From what I gather, the second game takes place after the first game’s *bad* ending, and I think the third only exists if you get the good ending in the second one, right?

      • LordKaiser

The third is more distant in story than 1 and 2 that are direct sequels with the same protagonists.

      • Kobracon

Oh man you really need to finish 2 or 3. I don’t recall it being that hard, unless you aren’t that good at the attack ring thing. The SH series has probably the best example of how to have interesting and worthwhile sidequests in a game I’ve ever seen. Just getting the best armor and weapon (and even best form for Yuri) is interesting and most of the time, hilarious.

        • new_tradition

Haha, not gonna lie, I’ve missed that attack ring quite a bit. I recall upgrading your attack power made the shaded slivers slimmer to boot D:

    • LordKaiser

I need to know if Marvelous AQL holds the ip. Inteviewers never ask… -_-

  • new_tradition

Anyone dealing with a massive gaming backlog? And I mean just beating a game’s main story/campaign mode. Last count, I got over 70 titles to still beat X_x

Plus I realize now that most of my gaming backlog are PS2 games to boot. Really got to get through those, hopefully soon >_>

    • I’m always dealing with a massive gaming backlog. xD

    • RedWolfe

Mine isn’t nearly that bad but I do have one.

Probably due to the fact that now that I work, I have the money to buy the games I want. I just don’t have the time to play them…funny how that works :

Doesn’t help that some of them are 30-50+ hour JRPGs lol.

    • PrinceHeir

      hahaha freaking same!!!!

just finished Digital Devil Saga on PS2.

i need to start playing Digital Devil Saga 2 this december.

funny how i finished Shinobi PS2 last Dec 2011, one year now i’m about to play Nightshade/Kunoichi. though why the hell did they removed dual audio?

Shinobi had it, why not Nightshade/Kunoichi too?

the dub here is horrible, it’s one of those early dub anime’s.

i also have Fatal Frame 1 and 2, Megaman Collection and Megaman X Collection(only finished X4-X6) Metal Slug, and 30+ others i haven’t even opened like Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, PS1 classic games etc.

for now i have been playing fighting games like Tekken Tag 2, Dead or Alive 5.

started playing Resident Evil 6, finished chapter 2 of leon.

it was good, but for some reason the pacing is weird O___O

    • Kobracon

Backlog? What backlog? I just have 20+ rpgs to pl-oh my god 0_0

    • I have a lot of unfinished game that I’m already halfway through but I don’t feel bad about it. You just need to adopt Nomura style. You always have another 6-7 years to finish the game :D

    • MosquitoLemon

I just got a PS3 and 8 games, so yes. There are 4 I’m not gonna buy, and 3 of the other games are fighting games, so no, hahaha.

    This might be bad.

    • LordKaiser

If they keep treating the cøstumers bad it will get worse. W8 till Sony’s Euro # comes up. I think that Sony needs to get a new European president.

    PEOPLE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

amazon are selling The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia for $19.43!!!!

brought to you by Dark Horse, the same company that brought us Sky Art of Final Fantasy!!!!!

    already pre ordered this!!!

with that price, and will probably sold out soon. you definitely need do yourselves a favor and order now!!

i’ll show my Sky Art of Final Fantasy later this week :)

    • Panda_castro

Where did you bought the Sky Art of Final Fantasy  and for how much?

      • PrinceHeir

        according to my amazon account.

i bought it in July 7 2012 since i saw it around $100 and i said you know what why not??

but the price actually came down for some reason.

it was around $88, since amazon has a pre order price guarantee. i paid $88 + $12 with tax and shipping. so i paid exactly $100.36

i was lucky since i saw this at dark horse store for around $139

i was actually surprise they shipped me early, which was a good thing since the following week the sandy storm in NY occurred.

very VERY lucky of me ^^

        • new_tradition

I registered to be told by Amazon when the artbook set was in stock, but I never got any notification, er go missing out the tiny timeframe of it being in stock :/
I don’t know if I’ll ever see it in stock at a reasonable price again. Got these a-hole sellers thinking they can sell it for 700-800 dollars, frickin’ heck X_x

          • PrinceHeir

yeah i think they have a glitch system.

since last year(2011) i click the notification to see if Deus Ex Human Revolution Comic is gonna be released since it’s been far too long on the database.

            turns out no notification, nothing.

i actually discovered the artbook from darkhorse website when i was looking for Amano’s Vampire Hunter D books.

guess im lucky i spot it too quickly ^^

yeah you should have ordered, i knew they would sold out ASAP.

            mine’s was number 300 something :D

  • Kobracon

    Heres a question,

Judging a game by its genre VS judging it as a game.

Many a time in this day and age, I see sequels or sometimes new games getting harsh reviews or shunned due to how it defies or ignores the genre its suppose to be in. Biggest example would be Resident Evil. Judging RE5 as a horror survival game, its certainly not the best, but as a game, its well made, polished, and fun with a friend.

Basically all I ask is, do you think a game should be judged as a game by itself or compare it to others in its own supposed genre.

    • Great question. I think that’s a tough one to answer.

Fans always want more of the same, you can’t deny that. I think change is good, but I also think to much change is bad. You sorta have to walk a fine line…

If a developer wants to do big changes, I think they should make it clear from the start, don’t tease or lie to the fans. I also think considering a spin-off when it comes to a long running series might be the best choice.

I think when you talk changes, you have to ask a few questions. Is the change for the better? Are the changes to game innovative? Are the developers just trying to change a game and make it more like everything else? Are the changes so drastic, that series staples are being removed?

I think those questions are incredibly important. If you change to much, fans will be upset, and many of them will write the game off via the first trailer. Which is why I mentioned spin-off’s. I think those can be great, but I also don’t think developers should abandon what made a long running series great.

Like I said, this is a good but very tough question.

I don’t like to compare games when I’m trying to judge, or trying to explain the game to someone else. To be frank, that just tends to be impossible. I think we all compare, and some comparisons make sense, where others do not.

You always have to compare a game like RE5 with previous RE titles. It just makes sense to compare them, it’s all one series. Trying to compare RE with Final Fantasy, or a sports game or something, that doesn’t really make any sense.

When the genres sorta line up, sure, it’s fair to compare, but I don’t think the final judgement should be based on the comparison. You might compare RE with other shooters, but that doesn’t mean it should be judged by how it ranks next to… Dead Space for example.

If the game has changed so much that it more or less is trying to copy or become another game, then things get tricky. Personally, I find myself judging games like that negatively. We need more variety, not more of the same, and we don’t need games trying to change and become another game entirely. (Back to spin-offs again here. I think those are okay.)

I think we see stuff like this more often this gen, and we only have ourselves to blame. If fans don’t like the changes to Resident Evil for example, then don’t buy the games. Money speaks the loudest these days.

I think I answered the question? Sorta? I’ll go into more detail if need be. xD

      • Kobracon

Well you answered half I suppose XD

You seem to be on the pro-“judge by genre/series side”. I’m kinda glad to say that I can skirt the line between them. In REs case, I never actually played 1-4 and 5 was the first RE I ever played. I have seen my cousin play 1-3 from start to finish and they look great but I was too scared to ever try one for myself. Years later I hear the “complaints” about 5 and thought it was a good time to jump in since its “no longer scary”.

With expectations low and a fresh mindset, I was pleasantly surprised by it. I had fun and played it through at least twice. Judging it as a game, I thought it was great.

I want to think of other examples but the only one I can think of currently will make other members groan and roll their eyes but hell I’ll say it anyway. *Ahem* Final Fantasy XIII. I personally enjoy it and think its great when judged as a game. Heck I’ve read many a review that mentions ‘if it weren’t called FF, it would have faired better’.

I feel the questions you mentioned (while good) don’t apply to FF coz of its nature. Every FF has experimented and tried to innovate and, despite its title, each title should stand alone and should be judged alone.

        • I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m pro or for it. I understand that it’s sorta impossible to not compare and judge that way in many regards, I also think each game should be judged on its own merits, what does it bring to the table?

I’ll have to get back to you someday in regards to Resident Evil. I can discuss Final Fantasy, that’s for sure. =P

I enjoyed FF 13 and 13-2. You bring up a good point, how FF tends to do something different with each game. I think it creates this interesting old school versus futuristic setting battle for the fans. Some fans love classic old school FF, like FF4, FF9, FF12, etc. Others like the games that aren’t so old school, FF7, FF8, and yes, FF13.

What’s interesting about this starts with Final Fantasy 10. Some fans consider that to be the last traditional FF game. 11 was an MMORPG, 12 had a combat system that was like an MMORPG, and 13 is pretty different to say the least.

I don’t think 11, 12, or 13 are bad Final Fantasy games. I do think fans are divided, and I think many fans just want Square-Enix to make a traditional FF game again. They want this generations FF9.

Does this fit into judging the games? I really don’t know. Nostalgia also applies to longer running series, it does Resident Evil, and especially with Final Fantasy.

I kinda tried to weigh the positives and negatives of it all with my post above. It reads like I’m kinda on the fence, because that is how I feel about it. I like to be very fair when I judge games, and I really search for something positive in every game I play. I’ll gladly play a flawed game, so long as it has something that I enjoy. I don’t expect every game I play to blow me away or anything, and some might not ever be as memorable as the games I played when I was younger. The impressions things makes on you are way stronger at a younger age after all.

Let’s put it this way, If I reviewed games, I would not compare them unless I felt it helped explain part of the gameplay, or some element of the game. I’d also likely not score my game reviews, I can express my feeling without a score out of 100 or starts or whatever.

I guess I’m complicated when it comes to this, but I tend to be that way in real life. I’m very open minded to things, I like to see things from different perspectives often.

          • Kobracon

Thats great :D I just hope there are more gamers like you and I. Although I can say with utmost certainty that the biggest flaw of being open minded is that you end up with an unusually large list of backlog games due to the varied taste and the urge to try and finish everything >.<

            • I’ve learned to just play my games at my own pace now. That’s the only thing I can do. So many games come out each year, and like you said, the backlog starts to fill up.

I’m not going to stop playing games the way I enjoy, just so I can make sure I complete everything before the next group of games come out. That’s just not my style. =)

    • new_tradition

I think ideally a game should be judged on its own merit, but I can admit I’ll often make comparisons to past games in a series. However, I’ve never really hated on a game for being different from its predecessors.

Though Final Fantasy has really been the only series I’ve played to cause such divides in the fandoms. FFXIII is the current game causing such feelings, but I’ve seen other FF games brew some fandom storms. And I’m sure it won’t be the last-I suspect Versus is gonna get bashed to hell by some and slobbered hungrily on by others (like me, lol).

  • Hello guys!!!

I’m kinda curious because I do this earlier this year. I make a note of how many game I’ve played and how many that I actually beated starting from the first time I played a game until now. After looking at the list of game of each platform and checked the game I’ve beaten, I have a total of 158 beaten games. What’s amuse me is 57 of them are actually PS3 games and I only have PS3 for 19 months and I have played game for 17 years. What have I done for the last 15 years?

I guess it’s because of DOTA that I don’t beat a lots of PS1 and PS2 games. I have a lot of game that is near final boss but I don’t actually beat them like Grandia 3 where I’m on my last save point but because I lost to the final boss and never played it again. FFXII, I don’t quite remember this one but my party levels were around 70s. Tales of Legendia, my total playtime were over 100 hours if I remember correctly the game has chapter I guess it’s 20 something. And whole lots of other games that I don’t finish.

So do you guys make a note on game you’ve played and beaten maybe on backloggery or similar kind of web? I actually made mine manually on a book, lol.

Also a few months after this would be pretty exciting because there will be reveal of Xbox720 and PS4 or whatever it’ll be called. What games that you will like to see made on next gen console. It could be next iteration of Call of Duty or maybe a games that has been dormant for a long while like Valkyrie Profile. Personally I would like to see Uncharted, Deus Ex,Red Dead, Agni’s Philoshopy ( I hope they made this into game ), ZOE, Parasite Eve, FFXV, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, Kirby, Monolith Soft’s RPG ( We probably won’t get ) and Legend of Zelda. I don’t list Persona 5 and the likes because I think it’ll be this gen.

    • lol…

I don’t take notes of the games I’ve finished… If my memories serves me right, I’ve finished around 100-120 games since I was born…

Personal wanted Next-Gen games: Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed, Yakuza, Dynasty Warriors, Sleeping Dogs, Dragon’s Dogma…

Since someone at Atlus mentioned they are developing Persona 5, I also think it will be in this gen…

  • KingOptimusOrigins111

What games did you guys get from Black Friday online deals yesterday?

    • Rydak

I snagged Starcraft II for $20 on Amazon, and Amazon currently has the Assassin’s Creed III Liberation Vita bundle for its deal of the day for $179.99 with some bonuses.  As much as I would have loved to splurge on some other titles I need to set aside some of the budget towards Christmas presents.  I am definitely satisfied with the Vita deal alone.

      • KingOptimusOrigins111

I got a PS Vita and Medal Of Honor Warfighter from best buy online deal. Should be here no later than December 10th.

    • MosquitoLemon

I picked up the PS3 bundle and grabbed Tekken Tag 2 for $25. Extremely worth it considering I rarely pay more than $30 for a game.

      • KingOptimusOrigins111

Best Buy had tons of games for $30.

        • MosquitoLemon

Yeah, I got the 3 for 2 deal at GameStop today. UMVC3 for $18, Resonance of Fate for $20, and Demon’s Souls for free, good stuff.

      • PrinceHeir

        Hell Yeah Tekken FTW!!!

you’ll enjoy it trust me(lol did i sound like Sarah Bryant XD)

        • MosquitoLemon

Yeah the game is nuts, people said the customization wasn’t that great but dang, you can do everything from palate colors to decals… very nice game

          • PrinceHeir

            very awesone game indeed :D

though it’s still nowhere as intensive as Soul Calibur V.

i think the Tekken team needs to take some notes on that, same thing with Soul Calibur V about putting all the Soul Calibur characters in one game(Broken Destiny is probably the closes we can get)

in fact it’s the only games im playing right now along with DOA5 and RE6.i want to play SCV and VF5FS again sometime :)

im only disappointed that they didn’t put the Tekken Hybrid Costumes(which was a prologue to the full game)

Devil Kazuya should be at least be a separate character slot so that we could customize his Devil Form as well as use his True Devil Costume.

and costumes from the Hybrid version like school girl Alisa and Xiayou and Biker Nina from the Blood Vengeance movie.

as for DLC items, just put the Tekken 6 costumes.

Tekken 6 Jin cape and the exclusive clamp costumes, Jinpachi Devil form from Dark Resurrection.

for characters the only ones missing are either Devil Ganryu, Shin Kamiya and Devil Yoshimitsu.

            • MosquitoLemon

Just the fact that they have Miharu, Dr. B and Ogre is enough for me. True they should have Biker Nina though. Would have preferred some more character-specific costumes rather than the swimsuit sets, hahah.

              • PrinceHeir

funny thing is that the biker nina, true devil jin and true devil kazuya portraits are in the game, but not the skins.

                wtf namco are you thinking?
i was hype to be able to play these skins with the full roster.

but nooo, for some reason they removed it.

                why oh why!?!?!

let’s just hope their DLC in the near future.

so how’s the game so far for you?

                enjoying it?

                what’s your team?

mine’s Lars and Dragunov, and practicing Jun and Unknown :D

                • MosquitoLemon

King and Ling forever (I may pick up Ogre or Heihachi as a second, but King is always my main). I played a decent Asuka in T5, but we’ll see.

                  • PrinceHeir

                    awesome team :D

                    why not armor king?

he’s very strong in this game ^^

                    • MosquitoLemon

I never learned him well enough, he’s so different from King. I started with Tekken 3 and had King and Ling as mains since then.

New game in 2013 it looks like.

  • Locksus

Goddangit, SAO! Why are your episode so short ?: I

Well, see you next week, I guess.

  • new_tradition

I just bought Record of Agarest War: Zero, and I didn’t realize it was a prequel to an established series, so am I gonna be lost and miss some story bits by not playing the other games?
    *Also, I bought three games this week even though I made that post about a massive backlog, zomg, why am I so weak? ;A;

  • Belenger

My copy of Extroopers arrived, something very very very interesting I can tell you guys, on the “Trophy collection” screen, the game shows as PS3 and PSVita.

    • LordKaiser

      Fk Capcom in the West.

      Nothing more to say.

    • PrinceHeir

      oh wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      definitely an exciting news :)

    • You sure it’s not some system error???

      • Belenger

Could be, or could be that one point the game was prepared to be released on vita just like sometimes games where prepared to be released on english and have their trophies on english, while the game never reaches NA.

Anything could be, I mean… I WANT TO BELIEVE.

Didn’t get to play it on weekend, just watched the intro >_>, i’ll do it today.

  • LordKaiser

    Here someon leaked DmC story:

    I hope it’s all fake.

    • FaithlessMr

/v/ has been trashing this game for a while now, lol. I’m not a big fan of how it turned out to be, still need to play the demo, but I lack the motivation and the time to do so, actually.

  • FaithlessMr

I’ve been hitting the replay button on this video as I work on a presentation due for tomorrow for a while now. I love this.

  • new_tradition

Ermaigawd I bought so many art books yesterday.

I’m so lucky to live at home. I can use most of my paycheck to buy stuff I want.

Seriously, I gotta start budgeting properly. But it’s so hard D:

    • Living at home is a different thing for me…… but YAY I bought my 1st artbook recently! Its a GC artbook btw.
