Microsoft registers Sony-Microsoft.com [Update]

In tonight’s edition of “Whatchu Talkin’ Bout News,” Microsoft registered two new domains revolving around rival electronics corporation Sony.

The domains: Sony-Microsoft.com and Microsoft-Sony.com.

Our thoughts on how the URLs might be used / what they might signify: a site to compare Microsoft’s products against Sony’s; the first hints of a joint Sony and Microsoft project; or a company merger.

Of course, this is all just (wild and crazy) speculation.

Thanks, NeoGAF.

Update 4:10pm: The domain registration was a “defensive” move, according to Microsoft lead corporate communications Frank X. Shaw.

He wrote on Twitter: “re: sony/ms domain names: Sony = great MS partner. No scoop here, this was just a defensive domain hold. Let’s move on to weekend, kay? :)”
