On the night of May 14, 2011, PlayStation Network went back online after over three weeks of downtime due to an illegal infiltration on its servers. With new security measures implemented and the long wait over, Sony is offering up compensation to consumers. And it’s a darn good!

After the PlayStation Store goes back online, all PlayStation Network customers can select two PlayStation 3 games from the following list to keep forever:

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

PSP owners can select two of the following titles:

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

Additionally, all PlayStation Network users will receive:

  • A selection of “On Us” movie rentals from the Video Store will be made available free over one weekend.
  • Every PlayStation Network account will be upgraded to PlayStation Plus for 30 days.
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an extra 60 days of free subscription.
  • Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscriptions will receive an additional 30 days of free subscription.
  • Existing Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscribers will receive an additional 30 days of free subscription.
  • PlayStation Home will offer 100 free virtual items, including the “Home Mansion” personal space, “Ooblag’s Alien Casino,” and more.

The European equivalent of SCEA’s offer is a tad different. All the details can be found through here.

The PlayStation Store is not yet live. Once it’s up, we’ll have you informed.

You have to admit, this is really nice of Sony. Thanks Sony for caring, and continuing to think of the customers during the last few months, when you have been under the spotlight and bashed by just about everyone for no good reason.

This whole thing was really shitty, and it could have happened to any other company. The FBI gets hacked multiple times a year, and they have top of the line security. I knew from the start, it would all get overblown, and the haters would be sure to attack sony while they were down, which is just pathetic.

Sony has proven with stuff like this, they know the customers got the worst out of the attack on PSN, not Sony. Sure, it did hurt them and other companies, but the gamers who wanted to play online had to suffer for it.

The sad thing is, regardless of what group committed this act, now that the haters and trolls have come out and really attacked sony about it, things are magnified. When you get the FBI and state senators, and people in power involved with something like this, it never spells anything good for the ones who committed the crime, or even people associated with them.

You can be sure, groups out there will keep bringing this up, and until the people responsible are found at brought to justice, someone or some publication will always try and rub this in the face of everyone, just as a reminder.

With that said, the individuals responsible should be scared, I feel that whoever is caught will be used to set an example, thus making the punishment they receive very harsh, so that others will fear trying stuff like this, a nip it in the bud type of plan if you want to call it that.

It also should make users more aware of what they do online, the strength of passwords, and just which sites or companies they give important information too. In this digital age, these things are very important, and should be kept secure, for when awful acts like this occur, one can be somewhat prepared.

Thanks Sony, looking forward to PS store coming back up soon!

InFamous and Dead Nation for me too! Perfecting timing with InFamous2 on the horizon.

  • AdamBoy64

Ah sweet. Being a ‘european’, I’ve got the option to get ‘Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty’ instead of ‘Super Stardust HD’.

I think I might take them up on that. I haven’t played an R&C game before.

  • So what about those with different accounts for each region? Surely most of you have NA, EU, and JP accounts, correct?

I guess that means more games?

    • Finalshoryuken

Ha! That would be nice! :)

      Good question. :P

  • TheronGuard00
