Duke Nukem Forever, once in development for over ten years at the now defunct 3D Realms, may have hope yet for retail life. According to a Kotaku source with knowledge of the situation, development of Duke Nukem Forever is now being handled by Borderlands developer Gearbox Software.
The anonymous source went as far to say that a playable demo for Duke Nukem Forever will be released later this year.
Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that they still have publishing rights for the title, however, have declined to comment on the Gearbox move. Gearbox president Randy Pitchford also declined to comment, however, indicated that he may be able to clarify the situation come this year’s Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, which runs from September 3-5.
3D Realms founder George Broussard did not respond to requests to comment.
