Bungie‘s revealed that their new intellectual property to be published by Activision is set in “a brand-new action game universe” that’s “definitely not revisiting anything from [Bungie’s] past.” The Halo developer announced their partnership with Activision earlier today.
Speaking in an interview with Kotaku, Bungie community manager Brian Jarrard has said that Bungie is still unsure of how they’re going to deliver their next game.
“To be honest we don’t have a 100% plan as to when, where and how our new universe will be accessible,” Jarrard said.
When pressed about whether it’d be the expected Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combo, Jarrad said: “Anything we feel has a creative fit to the game experiences as a meaningful experience for fans is on the table.
“It’s our creative vision we’re going to execute on. It’s certainly not going to be the case where we’re just going to ‘Have to put our games on x number of devices.’ It’s going to be the ones that make the most sense.
“With the scale and ambition of what we hope to accomplish with our next universe — how bold we want it to be and how much time we want people to spend in our universe, and the types of stories we want to tell — it is going to take our best and brightest minds of our studio to make this vision a reality. It is going to take everything we have to pull this off.”
While Bungie couldn’t speak much about their new game, Activision CEO Thomas Tippl, however, has assured that “Online should be expected to be a big part of their next game.”
“We are not ready at this point to talk about the business model of the game,” he said. “Bungie has been working on this project for awhile and have a well thought-out business model behind it.
Tippl’s comments may suggest the game will have some sort of subscription or fee players will need to play. Bungie did say they want to explore the whole universe of the new IP.
“It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that online is where the industry is going,” he added. “The online component of Bungie’s games has always been very important to everyone.”
