Last year, when Final Fantasy XIII was announced for the Xbox 360 along with the PlayStation 3 version, the game’s director Motomu Toryama said that Square Enix is “making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later.â€
The game is due to release in Japan once the PlayStation 3 version is completed since it’s still exclusive to the PlayStation 3 in Japan. Us in the West are forced to wait out development on the Xbox 360 version though, which will begin after the PlayStation 3 version is complete.
However, not all Xbox 360 development is being held off. Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy XIII producer, recently told VideoGamer that the game engine is being developed simultaneously for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
“When it comes to the basic engine it’s likely we are going to keep them on the go simultaneously. But the finishing touches, the details, the PS3 version will be completed first, then we will move on to 360.â€
When Kitase was asked if development on the Xbox 360 version had begun, he stated: “We will have to wait until we are done with the PS3 version”.
