The latest episode of GameSpot original series, On the Spot, features the first gameplay of Namco Bandai’s upcoming PLAYSTATION 3 exclusive, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, starting in at around the 24:00 mark.

In Joon Hwang, Marketing Manager at Namco Bandai, tells us that this is the first true Naruto next-gen game, exclusively for the PLAYSTATION 3 as well. It delivers 3D action at it’s highest quality.

He shows us the fighting aspect of the game, along with some controls. The game features a brand new battle system, built from the ground up, and the “most impressive visually stunning cell-shading you’ll ever be able to experience on a next-gen console”.

They say that the previous Ultimate Ninja titles had a 2D based fighting system, Ultimate Ninja Storm introduces a 3D system. During fights you will be able to select items for use as well, using the D-Pad, items such as bombs, etc.

The game will include 25 playable characters, as well as support characters that will help you as you fight, like a team system. Downloadable content will come to the game as well. This same demo will be available for download on the PLAYSTATION Store for free during E3 Week, but before that it will be exclusive to Qore starting July 3. The game will release late this year and an official release date will come soon.

They’ve also confirmed both Japanese and English voices, as well as an Awakening mode in the game that gives you some incredible power.

This game looks like its gonna be awesome

Wow! It looks amazing! The action looks intense, the graphics are so great they’re disgusting and while I’m getting the next issue of Qore two weeks isn’t bad if you can wait that long to get your hands on it. If Sony keeps this up in the future (release a demo in Qore, wait 2 weeks release it to everyone) then Qore will have a place and give gamers a choice: play it now or play it later.

My biggest gripe is no online play. WHAT!!! If this game were being released on the 360 (and who’s to say it won’t be released in the future) it would’ve been built for online play. I don’t get it.

This game looks great but if it does go to the 360 and it gets online play I’m gonna be pissed! I wasn’t too upset about VF5 getting online play because I got bored with that thing after about 2 weeks.

Then again if they do release Naruto with online play for the 360 I just hope it’s a year later and so one will care (similar to VF5) because there will be more game choices anyway. Maybe even a sequel that DOES have online play (I better not get ahead of myself).

Can’t wait for it. Looks awesome.

I’m pretty sure that it won’t go to the 360, as In Joon Hwang mentions several times it’s “exclusively on the PS3”, and the Ultimate Ninja series have been on PlayStation consoles only since it was born:

    • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja (PS2)
    • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 (PS2)
    • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 (PS2)
    • Naruto Shippūden: Narutimate Accel (PS2)
    • Naruto Shippūden: Narutimate Accel 2 (PS2)
    • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes (PSP)
    • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2: Phantom Fortress (PSP)
    • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm (PS3)

    See what I’m saying?

yeah i’m going to have a lot of fun with this game, but i want one that takes place in Part 2 more. the characters are more developed by then and have more abilities :D

Good to see that the demo isn’t exclusive to QORE for a long time, and will come out after a few weeks for everyone else. So really no point in me wasting 3 bucks on the next issue. Hey 3 bucks is 3 bucks!
