Metal Gear Solid 4 is the End, But….

Well it isn’t news that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is hitting on June 12th, 2008. It also isn’t news that this is the end for Snake. That’s it, game over, no continue, do not pass go. What is news to some is that this is NOT the last Metal Gear. It is simply the last for Snake. MTV interviewed associate producer Ryan Payton and he had a few words to say concerning that. “I think there’s been some misconceptions that this is the last ‘Metal Gear,’” said Payton. “This is really just the last chapter of the saga of the Solid Snake story.”

Some people may even be questioning if this really is Snake’s last mission as Kojima has said in the past that the series was done, but that obviously is not the case now is it? This really is the end though. Payton stated, “I think he [Kojima] is kind of nervous about it. You can’t continue from this step. You can’t start the next chapter. We really do close up the story.” MGS4 ties up all the loose ends and answers your questions about the series. “[Solid Snake] was a burden [for Kojima] because of all those loose ends,” said Payton. “So when you play Metal Gear Solid 4 and when you get to the end, I think you’re going to feel that ‘wow, this is a nice closure.’ All of the weird stuff that’s gone on in the past, it’s all coming to an end. All those weird questions…everything is answered.”

There we have it. This is the End for Snake, but not the end for the series. Let the rumors swirl, but come June 12th at least we can finally put some of those rumors to rest indefinitely. Snake, we will miss you so.
