White Owls, the studio founded by Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die creator Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, has launched the Fig campaign for its “debt repayment life simulation RPG,” The Good Life. It is seeking $1.5 million in funding.
Planned for release on PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam, and developed in partnership with Grounding (Crimson Dragon, Phantom Dust) and Camouflaj (Republique), the game puts players in the role of Naomi, a photographer from New York who finds herself stuck in Rainy Woods, a backwoods town in rural England, to pay off a “massive debt.” A five-and-a-half hour bus ride from London, Rainy Woods has no internet, no cell phone service, no Starbucks, and no clubbing. But it does have a “bizarre secret.” According to White Owls, players will feel “both alienated, yet strangely comfortable” in this RPG-style town “filled with fun activities and fascinating people.” It promises a “twisting, mysterious story [that] will have you captivated.”
