Dragon Quest XI shipments and digital sales top three million in Japan

Plus, a look at the game's original character orders.

Total shipments and digital sales for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age in Japan have topped three million, Square Enix announced at Dragon Quest Summer Festival 2017 in Tokyo today.

Thanks to the latest Media Create sales report, we know that the game sold 2,099,203 physical copies between July 29 and 30, with 1,148,888 copies on 3DS and 950,315 copies on PlayStation 4.

Also during the Summer Festival, Square Enix shared the original character orders for Dragon Quest XI sent from the development team to character designer Akira Toriyama (Editor’s Note: While spoilers are redacted, some of the text may still be considered spoilers):

Hero
A 16 year old boy, 170 centimeters in height. A “hero” chased by a kingdom playing with destiny. A design reminiscent of a “hero in the rough,” different from the heroes we have had so far.

Camus
A cool, 19 year old young man, 175 centimeters in height. A mysterious “thief” who wears a hood and protects the chased hero. A master of the sword, he is traveling with the hero in order to [SPOILER REDACTED]. Outfit notes: He is wearing a hooded outfit. Usually wears it down.
Veronica
A [SPOILER REDACTED] young girl, 125 centimeters in height. A [SPOILER REDACTED] “magician” and descendant of the family that protects the hero. Wears a robe and carries a staff unfit to her size. Has a strong-willed appearance.
Senya
A [SPOILER REDACTED], 160 centimeters in height. A [SPOILER REDACTED] “priest” and descendant of the family that protects the hero. Has a gentle and innocent atmosphere. Has a harp. Outfit notes: a mini-skirt, please.
Silvia
A <3 year old man, 185 centimeters in height. A handsome “entertainer” with a feminine manner of speaking. A thin man with sex appeal. The mood maker of the party.
Martina
A [SPOILER REDACTED] woman, 170 centimeters in height. A “female fighter” with outstanding style, who is traveling the world with Row. Actually has both elegance and [SPOILER REDACTED]. Sexy. Outfit notes: Please give a cool weapon like a naginata.
Row
A 70 year old man, 155 centimeters in height. An elderly “magician” accompanying Martina. In the past, he was actually [SPOILER REDACTED]. A good-natured old man.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is available now for PlayStation 4 and 3DS in Japan. A Switch version is in development, but has yet to be shown or dated. Dragon Quest XI will launch for unannounced platform(s) in North America and Europe in 2018.
