Square Enix debuted new gameplay footage of Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time at today’s “Countdown Carnival” hands-on event in Sapporo.
The company also revealed the fourth possible restriction for the game’s “Restricted Play” mode, which allows you to play the game with certain features disabled. The first three restrictions are being unable to shop, being unable to run away from battle, and being unable to equip armor. The fourth restriction is called the “ashamed curse.” This makes you unable to speak properly to people in town, causes embarrassing things to happen in battle that make you unable to act (such as the elastic band of your underwear breaking), and has various other embarrassing elements.
Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time will launch for PlayStation 4 and 3DS on July 29 in Japan. A Switch version is also planned, but has yet to be shown or dated.
Watch the gameplay below.
- 3DS – 28:44 to 40:50 (“Labyrinth Beyond Time” dungeon and world of a past Dragon Quest)
- PlayStation 4 – 46:32 to 57:15 (“Ominous Bird’s Ravine” dungeon)
