Playdius has announced AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected, the next game from The Next Penelope creator Aurelien Regard and Rayman series level designer Jim Gennisson. It will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, and Mac in 2017.
AWAY first appeared on a list of 64 indie games coming to Switch in 2017.
The teaser trailer reveals AWAY to be a first-person, anime-inspired game that combines 2D characters with 3D backgrounds. Playdius provides a brief overview:
AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected is a colorful first-person adventure game that combines action and negotiation mixed in a rogue-lite environment!
Progress through the story and, level by level choose your path and recruit allies. All the strange characters you will meet in-game will be playable in first person, and it will be up to you to find the right words to convince them to join your team!
