Rumor: Deus Ex on the backburner as Eidos Montreal focuses on Tomb Raider and Marvel projects
Second Marvel title said to be a Guardians of the Galaxy game. There won’t be another Deus Ex game for quite some time as developer Eidos Montreal devotes its resources to other projects, according to Eurogamer sources.
Eidos Montreal is reportedly working on the next entry in the Tomb Raider series, titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider and first leaked back in October, in place of the franchise’s traditional developer, Crystal Dynamics, who are working on the recently announced Avengers project.
A small team at Eidos Montreal is currently aiding Crystal Dynamics in the development of The Avengers project. The same small team is said to be in the early stages of production on a second Marvel game based around Guardians of the Galaxy, which will be led by Eidos Montreal.
The hanging story threads left behind in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2016, were reportedly intended to be resolved with a third game. In October 2010, Eidos Montreal boss David Anfossi announced the Deus Ex Universe project, which was to be an “ongoing, expanding, and connected game world built across a generation of core games” starting with Mankind Divided. If Eurogamer’s reports are to be believed, that is no longer planned. It is currently unclear if the remaining story will be told through other means, such as a graphic novel.
