Insomniac Games shared details about the Ratchet & Clank PlayStation 4 Pro update at the PlayStation Blog. 4K TV users will be able to play at a higher resolution, and if your TV supports it, in HDR with an HDMI 2.0 cable. HDTV users will see a big increase in gameplay image quality. A technique called “Temporal Injection” is being used to attain higher resolutions, as well as eliminate jaggies with anti-aliasing. Square Enix shared details about the HITMAN PlayStation 4 Pro update in a press release. “The overall resolution has been increased, aliasing reduced, reflective surfaces improved and we get more detailed lighting effects, all without compromising the frame rate or the overall gaming experience. A clean and crisp UI rendered natively in 4K, furthermore it uses the extra memory of the PS4 Pro to stream in higher quality textures, yielding more details… Players without 4K will also benefit from the increased resolution as the image will be downsampled to 1080p to benefit from higher quality shading and less flickering highlights.”
In addition to the 40-plus titles above, more than 45 titles will be optimized for PlayStation 4 Pro by the end of 2016, including Watch Dogs 2, Killing Floor 2, The Last Guardian, and Final Fantasy XV. Next year, titles like Nioh, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and For Honor will follow, in addition to all first-party software, including Gravity Rush 2, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and Gran Turismo Sport.
Speaking of Nioh, the Team Ninja-developed action game will have four graphical modes on PlayStation 4 Pro (thanks, @DvLZGaME):
- HD Option 1: “Movie Mode” – Stable 1920×1080 resolution with high quality anti-aliasing at 30fps
- HD Option 2: “Action Mode” – Stable 1920×1080 resolution at 60fps
- 4K Option 1: “Movie Mode” – Stable 3840×2160 resolution at 30fps
- 4K Option 2: “Action Mode” – Stable 1920×1080 resolution at 60fps
PlayStation 4 Pro will launch worldwide on November 10 for $399 / €399 / £349 / ¥44,980.
