The Valkyria: Azure Revolution Battle Demo Ver. 2.0 is now available via the Japanese PlayStation Store for those who possess a means to access it.
Currently, the only means to gain access to the demo are to already have “Battle Demo Ver. 1.0,” to have obtained a download code by playing the show floor demo at Tokyo Game Show 2016, to participate in the Jutland Kingdom national anthem singing event on October 8 in Shinjuku, or to participate in one of the game’s upcoming hands-on events in five Japanese cities.
If you missed it, read up on what’s new in version 2.0 here.
Additionally, Sega has shared new information and screenshots of Valkyria: Azure Revolution, largely focused on the game’s “Ragnite” element. Get the details below.
■ Anti-Valkyria Unit Headquarters
The headquarters of the Anti-Valkyria Unit, also known as the Vanargand. Here, you’ll take on missions from military headquarters and proceed to the battlefield. This is the basic flow of the game. Additionally, you can also use the headquarters to organize your four-person party.
Supply Representative (Item Buying)
You can buy items and stock up using the money you earned as mission rewards and other means.
Adjutant (Taking on Missions)
In “Battle Demo Ver. 2.0,” you’re able to take on the following three missions:
- “Base Assault Mission on the Imperial Road” (was playable at Tokyo Game Show 2016)
- “Grohtsen Recapture Strategy“
- “Defeat the Valkyria Mission”
You can play these missions as many times as you want.
■ Basil’s Magic Factory
Basil is the economics representative of the Five Grave Sinners. He runs a Magic Arts Industry factory. His company has been entrusted by military headquarters with the development and maintenance of weapons, and thus it is where the Vanargand’s armaments are prepared. In “Battle Demo Ver. 2.0,” you can only customize your “Battle Palette” here, but in the full game you’ll also be able to carry out “Magic Build Weapon Enhancements” and “Side Arm Developments.”
Equipping Ragnite
By equipping Ragnite obtained during missions and Ragnite equipped to other characters, etc. you can customize the Magic Arts available to use in battle.
Side Arm Development
Side arms are additional weapons you can equip that fall in the categories of “guns” and “throwing bombs.” In “Battle Demo Ver. 2.0,” you can only use the “rifle,” “sniper rifle,” “launcher,” “grenade,” and “smoke” side arms.
■ Army Battle Mission: “Grohtsen Recapture Strategy”
An assault mission on the empire’s military base. Battle against the empire’s unwavering army deployed to protect the base. Attack from the warehouse’s back door, fight within it, and make use of terrain unique to the military base. After you clear the mission, you can see an event involving rival character Maxim.
■ Valkyria Battle Mission: “”Defeat the Valkyria Mission””
A battle against the Valkyria, your strongest and most feared enemy. The Valkyria only receives damage from Ragnite-based attacks (including Ragnite weapons and Magic Arts), and can control the “Emotions” that act as a weapon to players. A fierce fight is inevitable in this fearful battle. After you clear the mission, you can see an event involving the Valkyria, whose name is Brunhild, and Ophelia.
■ What is Ragnite?
Magic Arts = Ragnite
Ragnite exists only for the amount of Magic Arts.
Magic Arts Customization
By equipping Ragnite in your Battle Palette, you’ll be able to use Magic Arts. Excluding Magic users (Amleth and Ophelia) with exclusive Ragnite, all Ragnite can be equipped, but since each character has “Specialty Attributes,” their effectiveness differs and high-ranked Ragnite cannot be equipped.
How to Obtain Ragnite #1
Ragnite can be obtained during missions. For example:
- An enemy you defeat may drop Ragnite.
- You may find Ragnite in a treasure chest.
- You may get Ragnite as a reward for clearing the mission.
How to Obtain Ragnite #2
Ragnite can be obtained in the city of Elsinore. For example:
- You can trade in “Ragnite Fragments” for Ragnite, which can be obtained in the game and via free downloadable content. There is also Ragnite that cannot be obtained through exchanges.
- You can buy Ragnite at “Street Stands.”
Ragnite “Ranks”
Ragnite has “ranks,” and depending on the rank of the Ragnite, the same Magic Art may perform differently. Additionally, for each Magic Art there are three stages of power depending on the rank. You can’t use a high rank Magic Art of an attribute you don’t specialize in. (The Ragnite cannot be equipped.)
Ragnite “Additional Skills”
Ragnites are granted a maximum of three “Additional Skills.” (There are also some that aren’t granted any.) Additional Skills basically extend the capabilities of the corresponding Magic Arts.
Example Additional Skills include:
- Power up / recovery up
- Reduced RP consumption
- Attack range up / firing range up
- Surprise up / impatience up
Ragnite Weapon Strengthening
Each member of the Anti-Valkyria Unit is equipped with a Ragnite weapon, which can be strengthened by consuming Ragnite. These enhancements are freely unlocked using a “Skill Tree” diagram.
Example strengthening includes:
- Attack / Defense / Magic Power/ Magic Defense (each stat increased)
- Max RP
- Ragnite equipment slots (increase the number of slots)
- Ragnite attribute capacity (equipped rank limit)
- Evasion strengthening / card strengthening
Valkyria: Azure Revolution is due out for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan on January 19.
If you don’t have access to the demo, DualShockers has shared an hour of footage, available here: Part 1, 2, 3, 4.
