This game looks really fucking brutal, just like Uchikoshi said it would. Wow.

  • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

    holy shit june?? AAAAAAAH

    • ayanami-chan

      JUNEpei

      • SJ

        Jumpy!

  • ChieIsLifeButNaotoisBestWaifu

Dat dude reminds me of Mitsuo lol

  • gundam-meowth

    Yessssssssssssss. So soon yesssss.

  • PuppetMaster

Cool. This and Odin Sphere (sorry ArcSys, i just wait for Revolver or whatever next version for Xrd) on June :3

  • Glittering Crux

That’s a lot of tomato sauce.

    • Rohan Kishibe’s Heaven’s Door

In Dangan Ronpa, they use a lot of pink paint so its ok.

  • Combo

Maybe I’m looking too hard into this, but I feel like certain character voice actors/actresses could be considered spoilers :V

    • kthanxyousuck

How? They already released the names of all the characters anyway.

      • Combo

Oh I know, but I’m talking very specific character-connection type spoiler things.

I forgot that Uchikoshi already revealed the connection between Diana and a certain someone, so that’s one down. But another voice who I’m assuming is Carlos sure sounds an awful lot like a particular individual from VLR.

        • Milie

          ….danm, just now I noticed.

        • Satoshi Ookami

          Sugita wasn’t in VLR.

          • Combo

Only the English trailer was out when I said that, m8.

  • Orpheus

    What a lovely day!

  • tastyharwze

suddenly it was anounced for pc lol, alright. if so, why they just don’t bring ZE:VLR or 999 first then?

  • http://dysisa.tumblr.com/ Dysisa

Already got my preorder down. I am so fucking ready for this. Cool that it’s coming out on PC too, but seems kinda pointless though unless 999 and VLR go to PC as well.

  • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

Small update on the PC ver. Polygon got it wrong listing it as “later this year.” Aksys Games told me the date is TBA. I figure it’ll still come this year, but the official word is TBA.

  • ayanami-chan

    I’m ready or plot twistings.

  • PringlesXD

I hope they’ll release ZE:VLR for PC as well so they’ll have a complete experience.

    • Richard Miller

I’m sure they will release the entire trilogy on PC.

    • kthanxyousuck

999 has to come first, but that’ll probably be the IOS port.

  • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

Added character art and the key visual to the gallery.

  • Mirikku

I got chills down my spine… That was so brutal and I am so ready.

  • Elle

June is looking good. Odin Sphere, that Grand Knights game, and this for me so far

  • Random Stalker

    06.28.16 = 6 + 2 + 8 + 1 + 6 = 23 = 2 + 3 = 5 (Junpei)

    999 – bracelet #5
Zero Time Dilemma – Participant 5
    Releasing in JUNE(pei)

What kind of coincidence is this!?

    • kthanxyousuck

Secretly? 999 shipped them for you lol.

      • Rohan Kishibe’s Heaven’s Door

        Then VLR happened :^)

        • SJ

          Still salty.

Junpei got c*cked. ;__; Even now, in this game, as super hot emo detective guy, he’s still not gonna get the girl. There’s even a screen with a bloody Akana crying and hugging a bloody Carlos. The dream is dead, poor Junpei will be forever alone until Quark shows up.

          • Blues

He was forever alone when Uchi confirmed in the 999 Q&A that Junpei spent forever fruitlessly searching for Akane.

          • Rohan Kishibe’s Heaven’s Door

You know, I kind of like that. Because if you’re a hero the goal is always
            A. Save the world
            B. Get the girl
I like that he didn’t achieve both in one timeline, its a refreshing outcome for generic endings.

Not that I hate Junpei, but he got super mature as Tenmyouji and I loved his speech in VLR when asked if they’d just abandon the future just because they can change the past (to an extent).

What I’m weirded out is how June changed from that girl next door type girl to a cold blooded woman with means to an end.

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

“Looks like they’re secretly shipping them, Akane x Junpei.”

did you play 999 at all? :p

    • Blues

Her codename was June only in the English release.

  • Mike

This is looking really good. The kotaku demo preview sounded so intense.

  • ayanami-chan

Damn one of these guys looks straight out of Bloodborne

  • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

this is gonna be brutal. from kotaku preview

The demo we watched started with Sigma locked to a chair while Zero
monologued at him. Phi was next to him locked inside an incinerator.
Diana stood between them and had to make the choice.

    The cutscenes
are in 3D, with a moving camera and actual in-game objects. The gun
next to Sigma’s chair has 3 live rounds and three blanks. If Diana pulls
the trigger it’ll shut down the incinerator whether or not the bullet
is live, but she has a 50/50 chance of killing Sigma. In 3 minutes, the
incinerator will start and kill Phi. If Diana pulls the trigger, the
door will open but Sigma has a 50/50 chance of dying.

    • Tommynaut

  • Orpheus

    Charlie Clouser – Hello, Zepp

  • Pastmaster

There it is. PC is steamrolling the handheld market. This was never a thing for DS and PSP. But with that abysmal market developers can’t avoid the Steam anymore. And I believe the dedicated handheld market is only going to get smaller whether someone like it or not.

  • Aluja

    PSTV compatible?

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

      i hope so :l

    • SJ

Probably. VLR was, so I don’t see this not being compatible.

  • Mr. Teddie

    …man, I wish I could get a New 3DS already, so I can’t play 999 already…

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

you got 3 months. hop to it.

  • Wolf Star

Holy shit!!! The trailer looks very brutal and also I never played 999 games before. Please guys tell me it’s worth it!!!

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

      buy the games!

      • Wolf Star

        Next paycheck I’ll buy them :3 I hope it’s good :3

        • Random Stalker

You don’t have to ‘hope’ because it is good.

          • Wolf Star

Alright then it’s settled thanks guys!! :)

            • SJ

I’m a little late to this, but have fun, man. I mean, I know you will, but I thought saying it would make you feel even better about your investment in one of the most fun series you could get into.

        • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

          it is!

    • Tommynaut

Play the games. Never enter anything involving the zero escape series until you do so. Getting things spoiled is the worst feeling when playing these games.

      • Wolf Star

I don’t know who the characters are or anything or what’s going on. That’s why I’m asking if the game is worth it?

        • DoktorCoktor

If you like visual novels and puzzle games, then you will most likely enjoy both 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward. They are very well put together and thought provoking to say the least.

        • Milie

yes, it’s worth it! But I dont recomend playing the IOS version for 999, they removed the puzzle parts, so it’s only the story part. Play the NDS version.

  • UMR-10
  • Pastmaster

It was pretty bad voice acting. So 2002.

    • Tommynaut

Least its got the japanese voices on the NA release at least

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

i’m not really sure about it…i’m kinda not really feeling voice of junpei, but it’s a 1 minute trailer so i’ll just wait to hear more.

    • SJ

Duel audio exists, bruh, don’t worry. Also, the acting for VLR also sounded like trash in the trailer, but sounded pretty good in the game. Don’t judge it on 1 minute of audio.

  • Richard Miller

Nice. The entire Zero Escape trilogy needs to come to PC.

    • Pastmaster

It probably will, and Danganronpa V3 is inevitable for a PC port in the West.

      • Raziel Kõbe

        And for mobiles too

        • SJ

V3 is a Vita game being ported to the PS4.

The first two DR games were PSP games, later ported to iOS and the Vita, and now Steam. V3 will almost definitely be coming to Steam, but I doubt it’ll come for mobile.

Same thing applies to VLR and ZTD, as they’re both Vita games, as opposed to the DS game that was 999.

  • forweg

Damn, all of Team D has good English voice acting while all the rest… do not.

  • Raziel Kõbe

Hope they release for mobiles too.

    • kthanxyousuck

      Without the puzzles?

      • Raziel Kõbe

        What?

        • kthanxyousuck

999 is on iOS but has all the puzzles stripped out.

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

i doubt it…they didn’t release a mobile port for VLR.. don’t see them doing for this one either.

  • Biskmatar

It’s weird in a year where Final Fantasy XV, Persona 5, and a new Zelda are coming out, this tops the list for me.

    • UMR-10

The funny thing is that all those games got delayed several times..

      • donkey3

I don’t think FF XV never had a solid release date. Just sayin’.

        • Bianca Ann Saracino

Final Fantasy XV for the longest time was Final Fantasy Versus XIII so that game after years of waiting getting canned and becoming FF XV kinda counts I guess haha

        • Budgiecat

pretty sure Versus was intended for PS3 lol so official release date or not, that ship sailed long ago…

          • donkey3

You can’t really say delayed if it didn’t have an actual release date. And Versus 13 is long gone. It’s time to embrace the epic XV.

            • Budgiecat

releasing it on the PS3 during its peak time was their release date and I also vaguely remember Nomura saying sometime around 2011 that he’d like to release it in a years time so yeah

also XV is downgraded cause Tabata is a senile frog that can barely see with those puffy eyes. Besides Star Ocean 5, even Platinum’s TMNT with it’s $30 Activision budget has character switching and superior team co-op attacks that are not laden with lame QTE…..

      • Biskmatar

Well, at least this year’s gonna be a goodie for some people. xD

  • JMaster3000

    PC, PC, PC, PC! >Chants<
So happy that its coming ^O^
Hope we see VLR too because i haven't played it on 3DS (obvious not so obvious reason), 999 not getting ported is fine. (Would be neat thou, do want!)

  • Hexodious

Releasing two days before my birthday, a bigger wish couldn’t be achieved

Saw this post http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=198497702&postcount=188 which lead me to here but all I see are screenshots. Where’s the art at?

  • Hours Left

This looks intense! I’m so excited!! :D

  • Rohan Kishibe’s Heaven’s Door

So both games prior can have you possibly saving all of them. I wonder how they’ll pull it off.

From previous reports the main exit of this game is locked with 6 passwords and 1 death is needed for each. Well…we have 6 new characters that can pretty much fill that gap, without the returning characters dying…

    • Blues

The returning characters, barring twists, are Junpei, Akane, Phi, Sigma, and technically Diana. Last time we checked the only ones who made it out alive circa VLR were the last three, but according to Uchikoshi this discrepancy is there for a reason.

      • Hollowolf

        Spoil incoming:

As I said prior, I didn’t have the impression that Junpei participated to this one. Some details seemed to show that he never saw Akane after 999. Now they’re in the same team…

Maybe I don’t rember well, or maybe something’s different this time. When you think about it, if it was just about changing the past they just had to give the six passwords.

        • Milie

          Spoilers:

Yeah, I thougth about that too. I was surprised that Jumpei was in this one WITH Akane. In VLR, the way he reacted to Akane, it looked like the last time he saw her was in the end of 999, then he looked for her and saw her real colours on VLR…maybe something happened in the end of ZTD?
but I vaguely remember Tenmyouji saying something to Sigma by the lines of that he had actually seen him before/that he was there when the virus was released, or something like that…but I dont know if it’s just my memory playing tricks on me. I need to play both games again…

          • Hollowolf

Same here, it won’t do me wrong, it’s been some years since I completed 999 and VLR.

  • Kenny

    Can’t wait :)

  • SJ

I am literally diamonds right now.

That art! That crack on the clock right in between Junpei and Akane!

    Fragments?! Steam?!

Inject this right in my veins. I’m ready to protect Junpei, Sigma, and Phi as much as I can, while killing Akane as much as I can.

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

      this might be my GOTY.

  • Lancer205

Woah, that artwork is wonderful. Definitely can feel the tone of the game from it.

  • Sunny11

Will be buying on Vita, never played the series before hopefully I don’t need to play the older ones.

    • Bianca Ann Saracino

Good news and bad news, bad news is that you MUST play the other 2 games before playing this as so much would be lost. Good news is that the other 2 games are ABSOLUTELY fantastic!

      • Sunny11

        I see thanks

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

you’re gonna be so confused. lol

    • SJ

Bianca’s got it right (hope you don’t mind me referring to you like that).

You’re going to need to play 999. It’s available for DS and a watered down port exists for the iOS as well. For your sake, it may be easier for you to just play the iOS version, but you’ll be missing out on some, honestly, minor details. However, these details make the whole experience and the final twist so satisfying. You’ll have to make the choice, man. Truly a dilemma. :^)

VLR is on the Vita and the 3DS. PS TV works, too. It’s a fantastic game, play it after 999.

Then this game, ZTD. You could wait for, like, 6-9 months and just play all three on Steam, since they’re likely coming to the platform. Again, dilemma. This one involving time. :^)

My puns are great, shut up.

      • gundam-meowth

Don’t worry, I laughed. Beautiful puns.

      • Bianca Ann Saracino

        I don’t ^_^ haha

    • Blues

“Hey, here’s the latest entry in a story-driven series, I hope I don’t need to know the story”.

    • PuppetMaster

This is the final game so you need to play 999 or at least play VLR.

    • Milie

Sorry, but if you dont play the other games you will get really confused and wont know the full story. Pls, play in the order of release.

    • ayanami-chan

      Yes you do.

    • Valwin Mediaz

      hell yea you do

  • Gojira Twit

To think, 2 years ago we weren’t even sure if this game would get made at all. Can’t wait.

Is the Japanese trailer up yet?

  • DavidCage

Hah,i know it will come to pc,yet some people dont believe me xD

    • Shippoyasha

They have been releasing more games on PC games lately so the writing was on the wall, yes.

  • PunkishVampire

Already Pre-ordered the watch edition for my Vita, Can’t wait for find out how it ends!

  • pixxxelz

How important is it for newcomers to play 999?
I already have VLR thanks to ps plus but there’s no way for me to play the first one.

    • Milie

cant you dowload it and use an emulator for NDS? It looks pretty simple for me.

      • ClaudiusWhite

This is what I did. It actually works pretty good on a phone provided you’re using a decent emulator.

      • pixxxelz

Wow derp, I don’t know why I didn’t thought of that, thanks.

        • Milie

          You’re welcome ^^

    • Elvick

First is on mobile, as far as I know it has the entire story just none of the puzzles.

      • pixxxelz

On iPhone though, I don’t have any iOS device (android4lyfe)

        • Elvick

Is it only on iOS? That’s lame… just assumed it’d be on Android too.

    • Shippoyasha

It’s heavily advisable for you to have VLR and 999 under your belt before this.

  • Limbless

Looks great. And for the first time ever, I managed to get one of the limited edition ones off Amazon, so I look forward to paying that shipping.

  • Lambadelta

a PC version? that’s awesome. i never played Zero Escape but at least this entry totally feels like Walking Dead + Saw which is a good thing cause it’s encouraging me even more to get into it.

hope they release the previous ones on Steam as well cause this seems to tie previous entries together or something.

    • Milie

Yeah, it’s highly recommed to play the other games first, or else you will get lost in the story and miss the plot twists from the other games since this one is a sequel

      • Lambadelta

yea i can already tell judging by the trailer “trust her it seems she was here before” or something like that. (guess they are talking about the white haired girl). i assume she is not the only that has been in this situation before.

        • Milie

Yeah, she sure is not the only one. Pls play the other games and be careful with spoilers. Try to get less information possible before playing the first two games.

          • Lambadelta

yea thanks spoilers kinda ruined the first Danganronpa for me so i am trying to be careful. i usually am fine with spoilers cause it’s all about journey but still in games like Danganronpa it can really hurt the experience and i assume it’s kinda the same here.

danm, it looks like it will be really brutal….I LOVE IT!!

  • Fooey

Is there an SE that comes with the game?

    • kthanxyousuck

The SE was sold MONTHSSS ago back when the game was first announced. Doubt they’ll restock it.

  • Raphael Cuyugan

In my opinion, the Japanese trailer sounds more realistic and not forced compared to the English trailer.

    • Shippoyasha

It has an allstar voicing cast. It’s not even close in caliber.

    • Joey Angelo

Sounds just as good to me.

    • AcedXXII

“realistic”? Do you even speak Japanese?

  • JuVu

Oh come on, even Japan gets a retail release where the series supposedly bombed? Why is it that some BlazBlue visual novels get a freaking Limited Edition but this game gets the bare minimum with its EU release?

Really don’t want to be the Negative Nancy here, seeing how cool the game looks and all that, but all this digital-only treatment for games of this caliber just leaves an extremely bad taste in my mouth. Am I the only one who is getting tired of writing long e-mails to publishers about why digital-only releases suck just to gain nothing from it?

    • Budgiecat

Japanese consumers stick to their word I guess whereas Western consumers complain about lack of physical but in the end, buy digital anyway : /

that said, US IS getting a physical version this time and EU not is a bit weird but eh….

      • ayanami-chan

I’ve NEVER bought a digital game that was available physically with the exception of Child of Light where I bought it day one and then the physical version released a year later.

        • Budgiecat

Digital on Vita is just a pain in the ass due to the memory cards and all

          • The Fabulous Wombat

If only memcards weren’t so pricey for Vita, especially a while back, i might have kept it. Handhelds are generally for on the go use for me, i rarely play them at home on the couch or similar….And having all games on a single memory card is a crap ton better for me than carrying around 4-5 different games, maybe even more……Im scared of loosing some of em too. For me, handhelds + digital makes perfect sense…..if memory isn’t an issue :/

        • Yuntu

Yeah, but people here on Gematsu are mostly the minority compared to the whole market. I mean there must be a reason some games get physical and some don’t – either they completly lack confidence or they look into the market and see how similiar games did.

          • JuVu

That’s what I’ve been pondering here. Something like XBlaze is like niche within a niche – I can’t think of any better example of a game that got a retail release in EU that just screams “this is not going to sell all that well”. Yet it got the retail treatment.

Seeing how PQube handled Steins;Gate and seeing the following Zero Escape has, it makes me wonder why they didn’t cooperate with them to have at least a limited physical run at launch, maybe even with pre-orders by customers prior the release like Marvelous did with Senran Kagura 2, or Ghostlight did with original Devil Survivor 2? Especially the latter, if they managed to reach 1800 pre-orders for a game that had been available for one and a half years prior and was import-friendly, I don’t see why ZTD would struggle to reach a same amount.

I’ve tried so many times with several publishers to tell them about the possibilities of pre-order campaigns to gauge the most concrete evidence of interest – by fans giving them money beforehand to fund the physical release. Unfortunately so far only Marvelous did anything like it, and it was with Senran Kagura games and nothing else. It just makes all the effort feel futile, you know?

        • Hollowolf

The thing is, if you’ve naver buy one taht was available physically… it means you did when it wasn’t. Why would they waste time, money or whatever for a retail one if people will accept a digital only?

I’m not saying it’s your fault, I’m just doubting that it will give them a reason to bother for a physical release.

At most that stop them from not localise some games, which I don’t care personally since no physical is no buy for me. I think Budgiecat was actually talking about those words.

  • MassGamesinek

The animation looked kinda stiff but other then that i’m super excited!

  • Valwin Mediaz

Pretty cool i beat Zero escape 2 last year lets see if Akane Dumb plan works

inb4 Phi is Sigma Diana kid from that future

  • Budgiecat
  • tastyharwze

I’ll get Vita version, and first thing what I’ll do when I start this game it’s turn off English VA

  • tastyharwze

On whatever platform you get it, be shure to turn off this English VA..

  • Yuntu

VLR was boring for me, so this is probably nothing for me either.

  • Elvick

Had no idea it would come out so soon.

  • Shippoyasha

The game looks great for being based around 3DS architecture. They managed to do a lot with the animation and character modeling. Looks far better than VLR in direct comparison. I didn’t like how the character design looked originally, but they look better in 3D models.

  • Articuno76

Wasn’t expecting a PC release. Though this is the type of game I prefer to play on the Vita (I played all of Uchikoshi’s previous games that way) anyway.

Might still look into the PC version if it has an higher fps and Japanese text/dub otherwise the import Vita version will probably be good enough TBH.

    • IvanAzure

Well, didn’t they confirm the game is dual audio? I doubt they’d just remove that from the PC version.

      • Articuno76

They did? Well, dual-audio wouldn’t surprise me. But it’s still not the complete experience without Japanese text to go with it.

    OMG, it’s happening!!!

  • sheeshur

I’d love to get a physical vita version here in Europe…Anyone know if I can play the US version on my PS TV? Are vita games region locked?

    • JuVu

Vita games aren’t region locked. Not sure about the PS TV compatibility, though, that device is very fickle with its whitelist.

  • LazyObelisk

Didn’t like the first Danganronpa on PC. I’m afraid this will become the same.

    • Satoshi Ookami

Well, most people will pick it up upon launch, so I hardly think anyone will care about PC version =D

  • Chestnut Bowl

So I’ll get the Vita version, then the PC version.

  • Hatsuaki

Will probably grab the PC version when it releases, very hyped!

  • Serph

    my stomach hurts
BUT I’M SO HAPPY ABOUT IT

  • pgn2100

i hope that the first two games get a steam port too

  • David Mayn

June, huh. So I still have 3 months to complete something on my vita and free enough space for Uchikoshi!

  • Jansen

    Hell yeah! LEZGO!

  • Lara Croft

Haven’t played the previous games but watched the story and the walkthrough of the last game. I might just pick this up.

    • Satoshi Ookami

You should experience it for yourself… just watching it is… well, VERY insufficient.

      • SantaRayquaza

Not with a Let’s Player like NicoB, it’s not. In fact, his LPs are always full of life that he infuses into the games.

      • Lara Croft

i would like to, but I already have quite a backlog :(

    • Milie

You should also inform about 999, since this one that place “a year later” from 999

      • Lara Croft

        Will do.

  • http://resettears.wordpress.com/ Reset Tears

Interesting how there feels like twice as much emotion put into the lines for the Japanese version. I’ll just be sure to go with Japan option for the voices then, if both are going to be available.

    • Kiraly

Zero’s voice actor is pretty good though – too bad the others seem so wooden… maybe it’s just really hard to voice a trailer?

  • Mohammed Allha

    What are these games???

    • Satoshi Ookami

      Best games ever made.

    • SantaRayquaza

They’re visual novels, the suspenseful drama type.

    • Tako Luka

      VN’s
the story line went to shit sometime between the last game and this one

      “full circle”

I’ll still get it but I won’t expect much

  • Satoshi Ookami

WE GOT A RELEASE DATE! HOLY CRAP O.O
Oh man, this is way too much :D

  • Fox

So was 999 the first zero Escape one, or is there a second game I missed?

    • https://twitter.com/Kaisenex Kaisen

1st is 999, 2nd is virtues last reward
