I’ve been waiting for this since December…The in-game files always referred him as “Rusian”. Not sure if there has been any other official spellings of that name.

Also, please fix that “Netogo no Yome”

    • Faiyez

It’s the name of the main character’s avatar in the game world. Since he’s a Western-style knight, the ‘proper’ romanization should be Lucian.

      • Sourenga

But “proper” is different from official… My quick Google search couldn’t find any official confirmation from Dengeki Bunko that it should be written as “Lucian”. Of course, I haven’t read the novels so I can’t be exactly sure.

However, the in-game files heavily suggest the name is misspelled on purpose. Hence, my post/question or whatever…

        • Sourenga

Oh, I actually found the proof I was looking for. The official manga romanizes his names as “Rusian”.

          • Faiyez

That’s cool and all, but you gotta remember that romanization is not for the Japanese. As long as the author doesn’t make a point of wanting to keep it that way, “Rusian” is just not going to stick.

          • SquidBuster

I mean official translations are usually pretty bad, Yotsuba for example misses a shit ton of easily translatable universal jokes and most action manga have censored dialogue that hurts the plot.

          • quodvadis

Most Japanese can’t ‘L’, and really, English in general.

            • Moon Knight

Most westerners can’t really “japanese” in general either.

The character’s MMO handle is “ルシアン”, not “Lucian”. In order to type “ルシアン” on a keyboard you press the keys corresponding to the letters “RUSIAN”, not “LUCIAN”.

              • quodvadis

The point is they don’t know that they had always wanted to use L there since they ARE foreign with the alphabet.

If you still can’t understand then that’s fine.

          • echokanon

many people often uses foreign name as nicknames without knowing the real spelling or even meaning anyways. maybe mc was part of those type and had misspelled it after when he tries to convert it to english. (didnt read the novel and only read abit of the manga so idk). but iirc theres a girl in the story uses german word as nick just because it sounds cool without knowing the meaning and it ended up revealed that it has the meaning of ‘pig’…

Edit: came across a 2ch board that seem to explain his name while im looking for more details about the in-game files. Seems like it was a play on his name actually

            N i SI m URA
            ↓
            RUSIAN i m
            ↓
            I’m rusian

      • Moon Knight

The main character isn’t a westerner though. The main character is a japanese MMO player who named his own character “Rusian”. Saying “Rusian” is improper is like saying “G0ku” is improper because it uses a zero instead of an “o”. Both characters/players are neither “Lucian” nor “Goku”.

        • Faiyez

The main character in the novels already has a Japanese name. His in-game name is ルシアン, which can be romanized however you please, but the fact he gave himself a familiar Western name is obvious enough. I assure you, we wouldn’t be having this discussion if the character was named ‘Maximilian’ in katakana.

          • Moon Knight

Yes, we would still be having this conversation if the screen name was “マクシミリアン” and not “Maximilien”. The point is that neither “Maximilien” nor “Makushimirian” is the actual handle name, but the latter is how you would type the handle “マクシミリアン”.

We’re talking about a screen name, not a real name. Saying “the proper romanization should be Lucian” completely misses the context.

            • Faiyez

I don’t think any of that matters if a different romanization is going to be the preferred one. Romanization is only intended for those who don’t read Japanese script. In about a month, the anime adaptation will start simulcasting. We will then see what the consensus on this character’s name is.

    • 오렌지

It’s not misspelled. In Japan, R is typically a stand in for L. Ls dont exist in their language.

An example is Lelouch Vi Britannia from Code Geass. His name is romanized as Rurūshu.

  • renji00

Why couldn’t they just stay with the original game and add all the other characters as dlc? We’ll never get this.

    • Faiyez

Because the game mechanics were overhauled for Ignition, and new systems are included. Thus, they felt a separate entry in the series was needed.

      • SquidBuster

Yeah really the Ignition system and changes to assists really would be odd to get in the same game. It’d be nice of course but I’m not complaining.

  • Darak

    I want Celty, please :c

    • Carlos Luis Ayala

Yeah she should be playable instead of assist.

  • ayanami-chan

But when will it come to the US

    • Rafael Martines

      That’s the true question :)

    • keicchi ryuu

I’m still hoping for that to happen, but maybe they’re holding out until all the planned DLC’s are out or something.

  • -SoleSurvivor-

I am SO GLAD that I didnt buy this when it came out ! I am sure there will be more characters in the future too !

    • SquidBuster

You do realize you missed out on Yuuki being free right?

      • -SoleSurvivor-

I dont know any characters in this game because I dont watch anime but I wanted it because its a fighting game and still there is more characters in this one right ?

        • keicchi ryuu

I’m the other way around, i watched the anime cause of the game like Oreimo, Toradora & Accel World which i started watching a few weeks ago to get to know them more cause i liked the characters in the game, i’d probably start SWAO as well if i have the time, then again, i already know some of them beforehand.

    • moreover

Well, if a lot of people didn’t then you all together can be SO GLAD that this one won’t be coming over lol

  • Raphael Cuyugan

    Anime coming out in April!

  • Martin

Dat hisasi character design though…I would buy a game just for his art alone.

  • ivanchu77

A Mahou shoujo huh? interesting character, too bad i never ever heard of her series before this article, maybe i give it a look soon

    • Dead Maid

      A yandere MMORPG player.

  • infasis

If this version doesn’t get localized don’t blame me. I thought it was a pretty good deal coming with a mini soundtrack and fold out movelist and everything for less that $30. I think it was even $17 on amazon a couple weeks ago. Could always import it, but there’s some pretty slick fanservice lines in the game. (Kirino and Sugu have the same VA)
Also really looking forward to that Netoge no Yome anime.

    • crazyhunter

Actually its not that good of a fanservice

  • Darkbright

Wow and I just started reading the manga.

  • fireemblembeast

    Never heard of it
