On the hardware side, with the help of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, PLayStation 4 sales remained at the height Dragon Quest Builders gave it last week as top selling console of the week.

“I am become death, the destroyer of Nintendo”-Wii U..
    no seriously
it only sold 3k units more than xb1.

also I do not get how ps4 is still stable in sales….even the 3ds is dropping ffs/

also, you have to think what are those 60k xb1 owners in japan buying…ive never even seen an xbox game chart

    • Carl_Ed

Well, the XB1 did triple it’s sales last week, so they wouldn’t normally be that close… The U is running low on upcoming games at this point (Starfox has never been that popular in Japan, Twilight Princess is a port and Pokken was met with a lukewarm reception in arcades), so expect it’s sales to start to decline over the coming months.

The PS4 was something Japan took to very late (the PS3 was still selling decently six months ago) so they still have a lot of catching up to do.

    • Paddy Alfan

they dont need to buy the games.
they got chicks who dig male with foreign brand

      • NEKO WORKING

There are people who hates their own country.

    • landlock

Psycho Pass charted. Did about normal for a VN game.

  • https://twitter.com/RyoonZ RyoonZ

    PS4 keep going steady, nice!

  • Fighunter

It kinda amazes me how much more successful Naruto is on a worldwide scale. The benefit of not being around since 1999?
Anyway, go PS4! Let’s get DQ to 750K within this month (a tough challenge but doable)!

    • Budgiecat

      Dragonball Z games too

  • quodvadis

Wow that Wii U rot is kind of astonishing. I just realized that Splatoon has completely fallen off the chart too.

    • SirRichard

#7 on the chart is “completely fallen off”?

      • quodvadis

        oops, didn’t see that lol

  • Mirikku

Most console sales dropped a little bit this week, but XB1 went from 92 -> 286? A bit of a random spike. Maybe people felt bad for its previous sales or something.

    • Carl_Ed

Getting in early in preparation for Raiden V?

      • Mirikku

Oh yeah, didn’t think of that. Maybe!

  • PorchettaMan

Apparently Wii U is having some production problems in Japan, that might be why there’s been such a huge drop. It’s out of stock in a lot of places.

    • badmoogle

With NX’s announcement being just around the corner it was only inevitable that its sales would drop sooner or later.

      • Carl_Ed

In fact, Nintendo might be intentionally running stock levels down if the NX is coming sooner rather than later. Clearing inventory might be more important than avoiding losing sales at this point.

      • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP16noYFeThFrJa2JVFw2IA Otaku DJK1NG (YouTube)

uh why the heck would they do that now?
They never plan to kill off the Wii U.

        It coexisting with everything else.

        • An Tran

Nintendo has said that kind of coexisting type thing before. Basically it just means that they’ll continue selling the console while hoping everyone forgets about them and buy only the new ones.

          • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP16noYFeThFrJa2JVFw2IA Otaku DJK1NG (YouTube)

the past is the past. Nintendo isn’t working toward a better future for the company.

And the fact that they are expanding would mean they will want to coexist all platforms.

            • planetofthemage

Nintendo is always working for a better future for their own company.

All corporations do — that’s how businesses work, by design.

              • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP16noYFeThFrJa2JVFw2IA Otaku DJK1NG (YouTube)

Okay then why bring the past.

            • awng0781

“Nintendo isn’t working toward a better future for the company.”

I would be very concerned if that were the case.

              • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP16noYFeThFrJa2JVFw2IA Otaku DJK1NG (YouTube)

                And it isn’t.

                • awng0781

If you are a business and you are not working for a better future, you will stagnate, you will not progress, and you will be usurped by similar businesses who are working for a better future.
Why do you think Nintendo has invested so much into Amiibo, mobile, theme parks, My Nintendo etc.?? It’s because they want a better future, where additional revenue streams exist to ensure Nintendo is profitable even when the company’s hardware and software sales are weak and stagnant (like it is right now). Nintendo didn’t do those things for no reason.

                  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP16noYFeThFrJa2JVFw2IA Otaku DJK1NG (YouTube)

I think you misunderstood me. What I am saying Nintendo is working toward a better future.

It just that I design my comment to say they aren’t.

        • ayanami-chan

right and MS never planned to kill off the 360

          • UMR-10

360 still got some few games, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a clear example. It’s not like Sony with Vita.

            • Dav Dabz

Sony doesn’t have anything to kill the Vita with. PS4 is a home console. The funny thing is. western Sony is trying to kill the Vita, yet they get surprised when games somehow sell on it with little advertisement.

            • Budgiecat

Vita got Freedom Wars and Oreishika

Rise was a moneyhat . Of course M$ was gonna milk it for all its worth before it head off to PC and PS4..

            • yo1234

              Sony of America*

        • Sevyne

Yeah, like the DS was supposed to act as a “third pillar” and not kill the gameboy, right?

          • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP16noYFeThFrJa2JVFw2IA Otaku DJK1NG (YouTube)

GBA still got Pokemon games and games in general when DS came out.

DS still got games even when 3DS was still out.

            • Budgiecat

DS still got games even when 3DS was still out.

              barely

They killed off the DS and Wii pretty quickly when 3DS and Wii U hit the ground runnin’…

              • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP16noYFeThFrJa2JVFw2IA Otaku DJK1NG (YouTube)

and things are different. My Nintendo is going to bridge everything. Which what that graph is showing. And they also said the NX isn’t a simple replacement or the next in line. It just a new dedicated game system.

                • Budgiecat

                  we’ll see…

  • http://www.ecosia.org sepulnation86

PS Vita got a nice boost! i hope this will continue, DQB comes to the west and other developer see that it’s possible to sell games on vita :)

  • SirRichard

I know it’s a spinoff, and very different from all the series’ other spinoffs, but that seems a bit of a slow crawl for Dragon Quest Builders. PS4’s doing good numbers, though.

    • quodvadis

      Better than X iirc

    • NEKO WORKING

Well, no multiplayer is the main reason. Seriously it was like “WTF?”

      • http://t.co/hs9uhabkCx nekogenesis

why do people expect mp in every game though? i don’t understand that especially when they add it to story modes, a mp mode for just doing quests and stuff i can get behind but going through story with others makes the game way too easy. not that games these days are hard to beat at all

        • SuperLuigi

What’s the point of the actual “building” aspect of the game if you can’t show it off or see others? That killed my hype for the game.

          • Elvick

But it’s a building RPG. Not a “just build shit” game.

          • PuppetMaster

“if you can’t show it off or see others?”

Wants to show off or see others? PS4 & vita can take in-game screenshots. PS4 even have shareplay and record gameplay video.

          • NEKO WORKING

You can share your creation but you can’t build things together with your friends, which is main selling point of minecraft in Japan (like MH, multiplayer).

            • zodd

They had to save something for the sequel. MP and sharing will be it’s main point, bank on it.

          • http://t.co/hs9uhabkCx nekogenesis

lol that’s not what i meant, i guess i kinda got off topic somewhat i see what you mean though

        • NEKO WORKING

because in our expectation, it’s “dragon quest minecraft”, it should implement full minecraft features plus dragon quest world which makes it stands above minecraft.

          • http://t.co/hs9uhabkCx nekogenesis

i don’t know much about minecraft is it kinda like clash of clans or one of those other simulator games with social interaction?

            • planetofthemage

              here’s the crash course: https://minecraft.net/demo

It’s worth trying at least once, but I think the demo isn’t nearly as complete as the full game (which admittedly I haven’t touched since maybe 2011.)

              • http://t.co/hs9uhabkCx nekogenesis

ok I’ll give it a try next time i get on my comp which will probably be tomorrow

    • Yuntu

Doesn’t look slow to me, it’s not like Heroes but I think it will have longer legs especially on the Vita.

  • UMR-10

Damn, those Wii U sales, not really surprised, it will struggle a lot this year.

    • OlimacFTW

27.544 in sales isn’t something you can call ‘losing steam’.

      • UMR-10

Compared to previous months? Actually yeah

        • OlimacFTW

Nah. By last year’s october, 3DS was selling less than the current month.
BTW, for the next weeks 3DS will have heavy hitters like SMT IV: Final and Mario & Sonic so there is not need to worry about ‘losing steam’.

          • UMR-10

I agree about SMT IV but i doubt calling Mario & Sonic a “heavy hitter”

            • kthanxyousuck

You’d be surprised how much Mario and Sonic games sell.

          • vishmarx

mario and sonic is a heavy hitter?

            • OlimacFTW

The last game raised the sales of 3DS in 2012, so yeah.

    • kthanxyousuck

Finally losing steam in year 6

And Wii U has stock problems. It wouldn’t be all that much higher, probably only 10K but still.

  • Renaldi Saputra

is 64k a bad sales for naruto?

    • zodd

It did around the same as the previous games. Naruto games sell much better in the West either way, main reason why they continue making them.

  • Rain

Holy fuck! Did Wii U really only sell 4K this week? Lol…how the mighty have fallen

Valkyria Chronicles, Street Fighter V, Project Setsuna, Attack on Titan, Dead or Alive Extreme 3, Dark Souls 3 and Star Ocean 5 are some nearby releases that will all release within a month-a month and a half from now that should keep the PS4 sales in Japan strong, steady and at the lead.

Hopefully enough people will own PS4s in Japan by the time FFXV releases. I want dat 1 – 1.5mil+ first week sales.

    • http://k-hermann.deviantart.com/?rnrd airman4

nintendo is dying in japan it seems but they will reveal the NX , can’t wait to see what it is

      • Likou

Nope, this week was caused by shortages of the console.

      • Rain

Ditto. I had/have/will always have zero interest in the Wii U, but Nintendo has hyped me sooo damn much for the NX, that I’m actually looking forward to their E3 this year even more than Sony’s and Sqaure’s (assuming they’ll have one again), even though Ninty’s E3 was a tragic trainwreck last year.

        • Budgiecat

I still have no idea wtf the NX is so I cant say that I’m ‘hyped’.

If its yet another stupid gimmick while once again ignoring third party devs, count me out.

          • Zizal

Third parties won’t come because their games don’t sell on Nintendo consoles. I don’t think they will ever get third parties back on their consoles.

            • Budgiecat

SNES and NES say hi lol

At one time, Namco was so important to Nintendo as a publisher, that they were granted the right to manufacture their own cartridges.

Then Nintendo got jealous and nixxed that idea and the CEO of Namco went on a public rant, calling Nintendo monopolistic. They even threatened to make a rival console themselves, teaming up with NEC (though Hudson, who was with NEC at the time, prevented it).
Which then makes it all the more obvious why Namco moved on almost exclusively with Sony at that point on.

Nintendo got too full of themselves and broke many bridges. Yeah Namco helps them a bit now (Smash and porting TTT2 and a Kamen Rider game), but its def not the same as it was before..

              • Zizal

I’m speaking about recent years. i don’t see western publishers putting their new games on the next system. They may put some shitty late ports that won’t sell and that’s it. Also customers lost trust on Nintendo console and could happen something like happened to Sega unless they make a big and amazing launch for their next system. If it’s handheld I think it will be successful. If it’s a console I don’t see why the Wii U scenario won’t happen again but their trump card might be that their games can be shared between the handheld and console like with PS4 and Vita.

          • yo1234

“I still have no idea wtf the NX is so I cant say that I’m ‘hyped’.”
This. How are you hyped if they haven’t share much of anything?

          • Rain

Agreed. I can’t remember the last time i was interested in a Nintendo console and their cringe-worthy gimmicks, but their handhelds are usually a lot of fun, and since NX is rumored to be a hybrid, I’m intrigued. Smash HD on the go? Yes please.

    • kthanxyousuck

Wii U is having supply issues. It’s sold out almost everywhere due to some weird shipment problem

      • Rain

Last week was abysmal too. If it’s indeed shipment issues, then Nintendo must’ve nearly completely halted shipping new Wii U units these last couple of weeks and these few thousand units sold were from old shipmens, since obviously there will always be consoles left on the shelves of retailers.

    • Mohammed Allha

Don’t forget persona 5 and bersiria both are system seller

      • Rain

Yeah of course but those probably won’t come for a while. I was referring to game that are nearing their release. Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3 and Dragon Quest XI alone will be enough to turn PS4 sales into a rocket

  • Pastmaster

PS4 still outpacing PS3 in the same timeframe. Official price cut to 29,990 yen around FFXV launch in summer would do wonder.

  • http://k-hermann.deviantart.com/?rnrd airman4

    vita means life in japanese

    • Dartek

      Vita means life in Italian

      • vishmarx

Its actually latin if im not mistaken

        • Dartek

          You are right!

          • http://k-hermann.deviantart.com/?rnrd airman4

Yeah latin , well italian , spanish , even french , german amon,g others comes from latin langage
Latin is like a base in north langages
Anyway i was joking for the japanese obviously
it was a way of saying that japan loves this console a lot more than the rest of the world , so for them it’s means life/success etc
            I know that’s a stretch

            • Dartek

              LOL hahahahaha got it pal!

            • MisterS

              german didnt originated from latin.
              Same for north european language.

            • Mohammed Allha

Long live the vita in japan

  • Mohammed Allha

That’s what you get when you release so much dq games in less than a year , I thought dqb would be pass the million units now but I guess i was wrong

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m not sure, it’s a spin off with a minecraft element. With that said, look at the legs Minecraft has. I expect DQ Builders to also have long legs and stay on the charts for quite a while.

      • Mohammed Allha

I hope so, because it’s so dispotment to see an exclusive game like monster strikes do better than DQB

        • Zizal

Monster Strike i one of the biggest mobile titles in Japan. Selling more than a spin off is normal.

          • Mohammed Allha

I don’t think so , look at MHX it’s a spin off but it did really great, the problem here is to much dq games in a very short time

            • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I think Monster Strike is just huge with kids right now. Builders is good but it didn’t catch fire with younger audience likes Monster Strike or Yokai Watch.

            • R.Z.

MHX is more of an not-numbered episode than a spin off.

        • Fighunter

          Look at DQB’s price.

  • ayanami-chan

Goddamn the wiiu is a strugglin

    • ronin4life

Their are actually shortages in Japan right now.

      • ayanami-chan

        whose fault is that

        • R.Z.

The Japanese people for buying too many WiiU’s, curse them !

          (manufacturing issues actually)

          • ayanami-chan

It is not the first statement in any sense.

  • UMR-10

I am surprised that DQ Builders wasn’t released for 3DS. I think it could have sold WAY better than Vita and PS4 combined.

    • zodd

You think graphically it could handle it? Same reason why Minecraft isn’t on it.

      • UMR-10

Yeah, maybe that was the reason.

      • Aaal

I’m not so sure about it. But as for minecraft, Nintendo didn’t manage to secure the deal with minecraft publisher until recently n Nintendo decides to release for wii u first to save it lol. Well if they release for 3DS first over wii u, then not many would probably get the wii u version. And there’s other reasons. If u follow Nintendo eshop, there are now currently 2-3 “minecraft” type of games on 3DS. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if Nintendo is releasing for wii u first. You can google the news for more info. Quite interesting.

      • Aaal

Just another follow up. In this article, the COO from mojang would rather wish minecraft to be on all sets but since it’s purchased by Microsoft in 2014, it’s more of a publisher (or whatsoever) issue rather graphical issue. It’s just fine on 3DS since it has few minecraft replicas now on eshop. http://www.gamezone.com/news/minecraft-coming-to-nintendo-consoles-3421575

    • ronin4life

Dragon Quest Heroes too for that matter.

I like how “Sony wrote a fat check” is never suggested despite their obvious tendency to buy out companies for content(See: every Western AAA company and Indy they can get their hands on), especially after listening to years of “DQ is Nintendo exclusive because they bought Square Enix out”.

    • miyamoto

No surprise here. SE & Sony signed a deal to bring back & revitalize console gaming in Japan. So 3DS is out.

  • Cyberjin

Does that Naruto game have an ending of the story?
I’m kinda tired of fillerpuden, so i’m just wondering it sold better because people just want to see the ending?

  • Budgiecat

god just discontinue the base 3DS and 3DSLL already

    and lol XB1

    • Chie Is Life
