Great success for the latest Dragon Ball console game.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse has shipped a total of 3.13 million copies, Bandai Namco announced.

The game launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC worldwide in February 2015.

Here’s the regional sales breakdown:

  • America – 1.78 million units
  • Europe – 1.05 million units

Thanks, Famitsu.

    That’s more than Storm 3
    Dragonball still strong

  • Rain

Wow so Dragon Ball is (a looot) more popular in NA and EU than in Japan? Then how come Japan always gets the games first? And sometimes they stay exclusive to Japan all together? Makes no sense.

    • OverlordZetta

      This comment makes no sense.

    • Richard Miller

All games sell better in America than Japan as more Japaneses gamers drop consoles for mobile.

    • Budgiecat

This was the case as well for Naruto UNS3. It sold way more in NA and EU than in Japan

    • Erhe R.

      No it’s not.

      • Rain

        *looks at sales figures* mhm.

    • http://Gematsu.com Vayne

Buy games for fun or to find superior to others?

  • Klaudkil

Now ita time for namco bandai to give ua there better gundam game

  • Elvick

Would love a platform breakdown. Even just current gen vs last.

    • Bumbayker

Most of units sold in NA and EU are likely from Steam.

      • Budz

I don’t know if you can include Steam in this ‘shipping’ breakdown

        • kiri25

That is correct plus adding the number of digital sales on consoles via PSN and Live and i think u’ll find that majority of DBX’s sales are on console in both NA and EU considering the 3.13 million is refferring to shipped units and not digital thus meaning Steam account for 0% of the 3.13 million units here

        • Richard Miller

That is still a good amount. More PC gamers bought the game than the Japanese gamers.

          • shogunknight

            True

      • OverlordZetta

        I doubt that.

  • JoJo

This game surprised the hell out of me. I played it every day for nearly 2 months, and I ALWAYS had something interesting and engaging to do, and the DLC that I bought (the first 2 packs) were awesome for adding the Dragon Ball GT story mode stuff as well.

Really my only gripe with the game was that Super Saiyan 3, God and Blue Hair God weren’t available forms for my custom saiyan character. Definitely a great title, well worth what I paid for it.

  • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Game has so much potential, hope it gets a sequel.

  • shogunknight

Thats really good, shows that people liked what they did with this one

  • MrKappa

You know I think what really sold it for people was the character creation feature.
But to be honest I always thought the game looked like crap, like a mixture of that awful Ultimate Tenkaichi game and the Budokai Tenkaichi games.

    • Romero Santos

._. How the hell did it look like Ultimate Tenkaichi?

      • Budgiecat

I think he just meant it looked like crap in his opinion.

Personally I think Burst Limit and Zenkai Battle Royale looked the best out of the DBZ games.

I also kinda like Super DBZ for its cell shaded backgrounds…

    • Bobby Jennings/GodlessChaos

Ultimate Tenkaichi was one of the best looking DBZ games…it was just garbage

  • Richard Miller

I hope the next Dragon Ball game is made with Unreal Engine 4.

    • Pastmaster

They should stick to current-gen now. But I think Bamco is going to use UE4 more in the future so next game will probably run on UE4 along with Tales. Depends on how NX will be if the portable version supports UE4 Bamco or any company can now go nuts with the graphics part for PS4 and PC. I think NX will cannabalize on Vita when it comes to games such as God Eater.

      • Budgiecat

Now that they got that Julian Merceron guy (Fox Engine/Luminous Engine), they might be making their own engine…

        • http://www.genkivision.com genkivision

Xenoverse is developed by Dimps, and they used their own custom engine they’ve originally built for Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter X Tekken for Dragonball Xenoverse.

It’s also the same engine that powered Burst Limit, which was also by Dimps.

          • Budgiecat

well thats nice but Im sure Julian wasnt just hired for no reason lol

  • Limbless

And this is to go even further beyond!

  • KingNigma

    nipples

  • Mohammed Allha

Good job bandai keep doing this epic job

  • DoUEvenLeviosa?

So Nardo is selling better on EU but DBZ on US?

  • zero

I really loved the character creation, fighting alongside the heroes from the show rather than as the heroes themselves and having coop missions, however, I do find that the what if scenario’s were a wasted chance, they could have gone further with their stories like for example DBZ Another Road on PSP, now most of the stories were in the vein of “something out of place is about to happen, nip it in the bud!”.

Also, although this has been the same for every dbz game, the fighting was underwhelming, the system was only challenging during the first couple of fights, later on the game quickly became too easy and turned into a spam super attack to win game…

    • Budgiecat

the what if stories in DB Kai Ultimate Butoden for DS were pretty funny

      • zero

Hadn’t heard of that game yet, will have to look into it now :D thanks!

        • Budgiecat

it got a partial fan translation however they never completed the story mode, but you were able to get the jist of the stories anyway through the 3D cutscenes

  • Fighunter

Despite this you know they’ll still cater to their Japanese audiences first when designing the next game.

    • Budgiecat

      what does that even mean…

      • icup ✔️

it means it won’t play like call of duty…

        • Budgiecat

          sounds like hyperbole…

  • CoronelCosgrove

really? this news? When I saw Goku pic on the headline I thought it was going to finally be the anouncement of the sequel… but just sales chart… damn.. what a tease…

    • DealWithIt

Bamco are morons. Xenoverse had the potential to be a masterpiece if it was refined with a couple sequels like Tenkaichi and Raging Blast were, but instead they’re making throwaway handheld games nobody asked for.

      • OverlordZetta

Have you considered that the handheld games have nothing to do with whether or not there will be a Xenoverse 2, and if there WILL be one, it’s probably in development/waiting for Super to end?

  • Speedo Redempteur

Well the game’s awesome so great for them.

Just ditch the RNg mecanics for the sequel please . getting max achievements is a nightmare because of it.

    • DealWithIt

Xenoverse had a lot more problems than RNG.

      • icup ✔️

        like what…

        • DealWithIt

Balance issues, lack of freedom and options, lack of modes, lots of tweaking and refining needed in the gameplay. Not a bad game whatsoever, but it needs sequels to flesh it out.

      • OverlordZetta

        RNG was the biggest.

        • TheManWithPants

RNG was definitely one of its biggest problems, but there were other issues such as the balancing between the custom characters. The Earthling Race, for example, was the most over-powered of them all by being able to pull off infinite combos, while having automatic ki recovery, and Saiyans can use Super Saiyan forms to spam Ultimate attacks. I also dislike the Stamina system and how fast it drains, how it’s tied to flying, and how guard-breaking your opponent automatically depletes all of your stamina, making escape/dodging almost impossible until your Stamina recovers, which can take some time if you have a big stamina bar. Then there’s the Z Souls, some of which, can really be broken, such as the ones that grant infinite Ki Attacks or infinite Evasive Attacks, rather than just a stat buff. There’s even a Z Soul that makes you invulnerable to any Kamehameha attack.

        • DealWithIt

Ahahahaha no it wasn’t. The game was painfully unbalanced and painfully lacking in game modes and freedom.

    • Daniel Guerrero

I don’t know dude game play wasn’t that good but i liked it, didn’t finish it cause I felt so underpowered. That aside i want something more like the budokai tenkaichi series like back PS2 era.

      • Speedo Redempteur

You felt UNDERpowered ? in xenoverse ? How?
The game gave you all the tools to make your overpowered characters as much broken as possible in terms of specs and skills.

I still play this game because i feel powerfull as heck playing it , not the opposite.

Maybe you should check your build

        • Daniel Guerrero

Maybe it just me but it click the usual hype i get from DGB games but I’ll get back to it soon enough and give it another go since got 4 hours in the first time around.

          • Speedo Redempteur

Get some good mentors … great starting mentors are : Picollo , vegeta and afterwards C-18.
Cell Skills have so much invicibility frame it’s almost a cheat.
Afterwards , get Goku as a mentor and then beerus for the most broken counter of all .

meanwhile , you might check gohan and videl for close range moves or even krillin.

Your priority should be to get kaioken or super sayian.
If you play a saiyan , the most broken skill to get is “SUPER VEGETA” , but it’s also the hardest to get.

  • http://www.genkivision.com genkivision

That makes it the best selling Dragonball game since Tenkaichi 3, no?

  • Zackasaur

Man, DBZ really has had a lasting presence in the west. That’s impressive.

  • tokyobassist

    Japan…what happened? Holy shit.

Can’t wait for the sequel. The first needs work but it was fun.

    • Bobby Jennings/GodlessChaos

I agree. Needs a lot of work but definitely a step in the right direction for the series.

  • Budgiecat

    I regret buying this game

    • Tetsu

I was very bored with it, I wish it had the pacing of tenkaichi 2.

      • Zatekuyo

Which Xenoverse for me made it less strict than said Tenkaichi 2.

  • alterku

When the patch that made Ultimates more or less worthless dropped, I became very glad I didn’t upgrade my copy. That aside, the game was fun while it lasted.

    • Bobby Jennings/GodlessChaos

you have more details on that?

      • alterku

No specifics, but over time several patches forced ultimates into changes that more or less made them less fun. Having a launch copy keeps most moves at their most destructive. Heard a lot about increased stamina loss while using an ult, for example (around 3 hits will deplete). But hey this is all hearsay. My copy will never be updated to know.

        • Bobby Jennings/GodlessChaos

Huh…I’ll give it a try sooner or later. Thanks for the info.

  • Zatekuyo

I think that it’ll be enough for Dimps to make a sequel of Dragon Ball Xenoverse Zenkaishi for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, & PC this time, instead of you know the 7th gen consoles.
