Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix shared new details on Final Fantasy XV during its Active Time Report Vol. 7.0 live stream this evening.

Get the information below.

Magic

There are two different disciplines of magic: elemental magic and ring magic. Ring magic only becomes usable after a certain point in the story, and can only be used by the bearer of the royal ring of Lucis, which is passed down the royal line.

Elemental magic consists of Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder. These magic attacks have different effects based on the weather and environment. For example, certain objects, including grassy fields, are flammable when casting Fire. Fire is a wide area attack from the start, but with greater power alongside the risk of damaging your allies. If you cast Thunder while it’s raining, it will deal more damage and its effects will spread further. Or if there is water in a Blizzard attack’s initial area of effect, then it will freeze for a bit. If monsters come within that area of effect, their biorhythms will rapidly slow down, making their movement sluggish or possibly freezing them to death.

Elemental magic is described as an item of sorts, but not the kind you can purchase. Elements are present in various locations around the world, and are a type of energy you can gather. The energy you gather can be used to create magic and stored as an important part of your inventory. You can then can equip that item in place of a weapon to use in battle. In the footage that follows below, we see Noctis use Fire like one would toss a grenade.

2nd Progress Report

Square Enix released the second (and final) progress report video showing the progress of development of certain sections in the game. The build in today’s progress report is from August and September last year.

Niflheim Empire

The Niflheim Empire is the opposing force in Final Fantasy XV. It has a staggering number of military troops at its disposal. Square Enix detailed a bit about the empire’s condition just after the game begins.

The Niflheim Empire has already conquered and occupied a vast majority of the world at the start of the story. The Kingdom of Lucis, however, still maintains its independence, and is the last bastion against Niflheim, but is being pressured.

Niflheim and Lucis rely on different things as a source of military might. Lucis’ major power comes from magic. They have the crystal and can use its power to erect magic barriers and such to prevent enemy invasions. Niflheim, on the other hand, is a mechanized civilization. Their regular infantry units are non-human, magitek troopers available in overwhelming numbers.

A lot of things will happen once the story is in motion, but the above is the situation at the very start of the game.

Final Fantasy XV

Let’s meet Niflheim’s leadership.

Final Fantasy XV

Iedolas Aldercapt is Niflheim’s emperor and a ruthless supremacist, whose politics are dedicated to territorial expansion. Although at the start of the game, he’s not actually leading the empire personally. He’s semi-retired from frontline politics.

Final Fantasy XV

Chancellor Ardyn Izunia is the one really holding the reigns of power and controlling the Niflheim empire. He is a slightly humorous character who’s incredibly shrewd and plays a very important role in the story. Verstael (pictured in the diagram above) is the a researcher who developed the technology for the Magitek Infantry. Ardyn expanded the manufacturing of the Magitek Infantry that Verstael invented, and is using them to build up the empire’s might.

Final Fantasy XV

General Glauca is head of the imperial military. Just below him on the chart, there are various Magitek Infantry units and the ranked officers who command them. All of Niflheim’s soldiers are Magitek Infantry troopers, but the officers above them are human. So out in the field it’s all robots, but human beings are the ones controlling them.

Final Fantasy XV

All the soldiers serving under the captains are artificial magitek troopers. There are two different models in the Magitek Infantry. The “Current Combat Prototype” showed up in the Episode Duscae demo. These are built for war, being optimized for combat, and are dropped into battle by assault landing craft. The “Former All-Puprose Mode” is a soldier deployed for all kinds of tasks outside of battle. In the “Dawn” trailer, they showed up as manning a traffic checkpoint.

Final Fantasy XV

Aranea Highwind is the fan-favorite “dragoon” we’ve been seeing since the Final Fantasy Versus XIII days. She’s captain of the Niflheim Empire’s Third Army Corps 86th Airborne Unit. She’s skilled in aerial combat, so people in the army refer to her as the “dragoon.” It wasn’t just a fan saying after all.

Battle Footage

The latest footage shows the team infiltrating an imperial base at Niflheim. Infiltrating bases is something you can do and a way you can enjoy the game that’s different from the main story.

The camera has been improved, greatly refined from what we saw in the Episode Duscae demo. It’s being automated as much as possible so that players won’t need to control it manual.

The swirling weapons selection is back – that being the conjuring of weapons before choosing one. This feature had always planned to be incorporated into the game.

The user interface is drastically different than before. The team is in the middle of final UI adjustments, so it may change some more. The four weapons are now incorporated to the directional buttons, so players can instantaneously switch between weapons. This addition was based on user feedback from the Episode Duscae demo.

The fourth combo has also been revealed. The previously three combos were auto combos, parrying combos, and combos triggered by allies. More commands become available as your allies level up. When a player uses such a commend, the camera switches to the ally performing the command, then back to Noctis. It’s a command to an ally that players can use at their own discretion.

March Event

Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix will announce the release date, price, and a lot of other information about Final Fantasy XV during an event on March 30 titled “Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV” to be held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. This event will begin at 7:00 p.m. PT and be hosted by Kinda Funny’s Tim Gettys and Greg Miller. If you’re in the area, you can reserve a free ticket. This event will also be used to announce the official name of the playable tech demo for Final Fantasy XV, as well as other details.

Final Fantasy XV producer Hajime Tabata promises they’re not going to reveal a bunch of information only then say that the game is coming out in 2017. A 2016 release date will be announced.

“Final Fantasy XV producer Hajime Tabata promises they’re not going to reveal a bunch of information only then say that the game is coming out in 2017. A 2016 release date will be announced.”

What? So is the game coming out in 2017 or 2016?

    • Yuntu

2016, your quote basically says that the company wouldn’t reveal so much information and then not release it in 2016.

    • DesmaX

It’s confirmed for 2016. He was just making a joke about it probably be delayed again

      • Silent Nyan

Yep, AO was joking about HT revealing a lot of info to hype fans then announce a FF15 for 2017 xD

      • Mike

Felt like a dig at P5 ahahaha

  • Revorse

OH SHIT! KindaFunny in the building! I dunno why Greg would host instead of Colin though. I thought Greg didn’t like RPGs.

    • Zackasaur

I’m glad, either way. Greg is way better than Colin.

      • Revorse

Colin always says he doesn’t crave the limelight. And Greg enjoys entertaining so that’s probably natural.

  • Limbs4wings

that loudmouth Greg Miller, of all people

  • Cocteau

Thought game release was set for march 30, and I almost cared for a second.

  • Yuntu

I really hope they upload some HD versions of those 2 videos.

  • Maroš Goč

“The camera has been improved, greatly refined from what we saw in the Episode Duscae demo. It’s being automated as much as possible so that players won’t need to control it manual.”

Yeah, the worst thing about playing games is that you actually have to play them …….

    • Syltique

The camera in the demo was a disaster.

      • Maroš Goč

I know, I played it many times :D But still, the sentence is weird :D

        • Yuntu

Isn’t it a good thing that you can play the game without worrying about the camera too much?

    • DesmaX

      He means control the camera

    • ayanami-chan

Camera control was horrid prepatch in the demo day one

    • Zackasaur

      wat

The camera is better so that the game is more playable.

  • DesmaX

Man, the game is actually starting to look pretty good.

It’s pratically becoming what I wanted Type-0 to be. Not insulting the game, as it’s quite the archievement for the PSP, but this is on a completely other level

  • ZayZay_11

Why does Greg Miller have to host it? :(

    • Zackasaur

      He is well-liked.

    • ayanami-chan

      Because he has chins.

  • Traingham

I keep on getting confused with the release date, and the date of the announcement of the release date, because how many advertisements even do the latter?!

Get ready for the day we tell you about the day!

    • Yuntu

Well some people waited 10 years for this game, so of course the announcement of the release date is going to be a huge thing you should tease at to build up some hype.

      • ayanami-chan

This is past the point of teasing, now is the time to stop dicking around.

        • Yuntu

And they are exactly doing that, they would be dicking around if they wouldn’t have given us a solid date for the March event.

    • Zackasaur

The new company policy (a good company policy) is that they don’t release a date until they exit beta development and are in final polishing.

They let us know about when that would be so that we would stop asking them about a release date. That way, we know what is going on and can ask more important questions, instead.

      A smart move, all around.

      • Cocteau

It’s a move based off incompetence. Smart for the situation, but in a situation they shouldn’t even be in.

        • Zackasaur

The incompetence of executives who are long gone.

That’s like me complaining about what a dick Christopher Columbus is being.

          • ayanami-chan

That’s a fair point actually, but what we need is proof that the current “regime” is more competent than the previous as opposed to “not as incompetent as the last”. Of which we have not gotten proof.

Remember when Se was shocked that Bravely Default sold well and people wanted a traditional turn based jrpg? yeah… competence…. yeah….

            • Zackasaur

We’ve gotten proof with every single showing, though. We have an unprecedented peak into the development of the game and have seen a whole lot.

It’s fine to suggest that we only know everything absolutely after the game releases, but it’s inaccurate to play completely ignorant at this point. We know a hell of a lot.

              • ayanami-chan

Wait, I was talking about SE as a whole, oh yeah about FFXV yeah we know alot… and nothing really so far to convince us the game will be great or shit either way (remember the hyped of FFXIII?). But in the case of FFXV itself yeah I think you’re right too with your analogy.

                • Zackasaur

Yeah, I was talking about FFXV. c:

But, now that you bring it up, we actually know quite about SE, as well. We know a lot about the change in the business structure and about the people making decisions, now. We know a lot about their new philosophies (trying new IPs and giving them a real shot, optimising development procedures to make things more efficient, collaborating more with other studios, bringing back missing IPs, etc.). We’ve seen a whole lot of the games they’re making, from both quality and quantity perspectives. We’ve seen them open up new feedback channels for fans/customers.

I’d say that we know a lot about SE, too. I’m not really sure at what point you could ever be “done” judging that… You know? That’s an active process.

                  • ayanami-chan

Yes, you’re right in all of that but what I’m saying is that we’ve not seen that it’s “better” (but not neccessarily worse)

                    • Zackasaur

I think we have seen that it’s better, though. I mean, just make a list of all the SE games being made right now. Or look at the sheer amount of progress we’ve seen with stuff like FFXIV, FFXV, and KHIII.

Consider that Nier is coming back (one of their new philosophies is that an IP needs more than one entry to clearly determine its overall potential and popularity). Or look at Setsuna, a new IP and Chrono successor.

Then they have more collaborative and experimental efforts.

Most of the games aren’t out yet (though we’ve gotten some stuff already), but all indicators are good. Compare this to the days when they were releasing so very little and seemed to be screwing up left and right, except on handhelds.

            • kthanxyousuck

Bravely Default is still niche as hell even after being successful. Sorry to say but they want mainstream playing FFXV and mainstream doesn’t really want turn-based games anymore.

But you can enjoy World of Final Fantasy and Setsuna for that.

              • ayanami-chan

This fallacy what the “mainstream” does and doesn’t want is just some flippant wanton idea that people pass around without and thought or analysis. As for the case of SE, yes of course I agree, these are the same assholes who called Tomb Raider a failure after 6 million units sold.

                • kthanxyousuck

It’s not really all that hard to see though. Turn-based only appeals to fans that have been playing JRPGs for the past 10 or so years. Outside of Persona, Dragon Quest or Pokemon there’s hardly anything for new gamers to get into. Hell even Tales of Zestiria (which most people consider a shit game) is probably sitting at about 500K worldwide right now.

Persona is finally scratching a million after 4 main entries and SE would probably set themselves on fire if they only made that much. Bravely Default was a success for more reasons than just being a classic RPG. Other than KH3D it was the only Square RPG that’s been released overseason 3DS.

      • ayanami-chan

What Zack means is: “Prease be excited, and buy our prodcut thankyou”

  • ayanami-chan

An announcement for an announcement of a release date of a game that has taken ten years to make which will probably get delayed after the announcement of the announcement of the release date.

  • Zackasaur

This game is stunning beyond belief. I can’t even adequately compare it to anything else… It just so far surpasses everything else the industry has released, to date.

Sign me up for a collector’s edition!

    • ayanami-chan

Yes it’s a testament to how wrong things can go and the effort it takes to fix something. If it ends up being terrible…. woe is the man who fellated this game prerelease.

      • Zackasaur

Do you have to spam ill-informed cynicism everywhere?

        • ayanami-chan

only one of those adjectives aptly describes me.

It’s cynicism yes, and I readily accept that maybe it’s not a good trait but it does have its uses.

          • Zackasaur

It’s just awfully aggressive and sad, especially in defiance of everything we’ve seen and know.

It just makes me wonder if you’re okay or need to talk to someone. :x (In which case, I’m always ready to listen to someone.)

            • ayanami-chan

Well it’s not spam at least!

              • Zackasaur

Okay, fair enough! I felt a little targeted, though, which is what I meant with the term. :P

(Like ~I~ was getting spammed, not the chat in general.)

        • kthanxyousuck

          Yes

    • seyEliveD

It does look great, but I would beware building up too much hype. When that happens, even amazing games can fail to deliver from a personal perspective.

      • Zackasaur

Oh, I’m very careful and am comfortable with where I stand. c:

        No worries.

  • Wolf Star

This is so beutiful, I’m hyped up again!! :D I’m not kidding when I say I’m hyped. Much better than that demo I’ve played and very deep combat and I love the game even more now :3 can’t wait for march 30th!!!! :D

  • –ZERO–

Its been a long time coming but were finally at the home stretch! I’ve been hyped for this game since it was first announced years ago! I’ll be sure to buy Naruto Storm 4,Street Fighter V and various other games throughout the year however Final Fantasy XV will be the first game I play on my PS4!

  • shogunknight

So this is the release date of the releases release date. Greg also seems to be getting appearances in big events all of a sudden.

  • Elle

    Finally some good promo

  • Davorbasic

    They’re finally starting proper marketing

    • Zackasaur

Yep. A lot of people have forgotten that all of this stuff so far has been for the super-fans waiting since the Versus XIII days.

      The mass marketing begins soon.

  • –ZERO–

Hmm I wonder if Noctis will be able to summon black flames and a giant humanoid mecha made of purple energy? ;)

    • Silent Nyan

      Amaterasu!!

  • vishmarx

i just realised, noctis the katana like the badass mr cor instead of having it appear outta nowhere,

    • –ZERO–

      Wut?

      • vishmarx

disqus still has no live updating lol,
anyways i mean he carries the katana in his hard while equipped just like cor instead of having it warp like the other weapons

        • Yuntu

          I assume it’s a sub-weapon and I think those work different.

          • vishmarx

            could be

        • Zuhri69

Serious? Well, that’s better. If i can say one thing i dislike about FFXV so far is the the weapon just vanish into thin air. I prefer it if i can look at the weapon, thank you.

    • ayanami-chan

“noctis the katana like a badass mr cor”

      sumthins up here

  • Silent Nyan

Don’t give Noctis Sephiroth’s Masamune, he might stab someone in the back.

    • –ZERO–

It will be Luna, Cor will then drown her even tho theres a chance she’s still alive, and the fans will make rumors that she’ll be resurrected in a sequel

  • –ZERO–

Aranea ‘Highwind’ huh…I see what you did there SE :)

    • ayanami-chan

      Please have more FFIV

      • vishmarx

arent dragoons mostly highwinds? its not something specific to 4

        • Yuntu

But 4 started it, I think that’s what he meant.

        • ayanami-chan

Kain Highwind was a prominent character in the story of FFIV where the Dragoon character orginitated.

        • Zackasaur

You’re right that it’s now a tradition in FF (and a tradition Nomura clearly likes).

But it did start with Kain Highwind in FFIV.

          • iron_maw84

Actually it stared in FFII. There dragon in it named Richard Highwind.

            • Zackasaur

              OHHH YEAH!

I haven’t played FFII in ages. Thanks!

              • MrFinalgamer

                >I haven’t played FFII in ages.

and that should not change, under any circunstance…

                • Zackasaur

                  XD

                  It is my least favourite.

    • Silent Nyan

Aranea will be accompanied by a Dark Magitek Knight.

    • Zackasaur

      Nomura loves that name.

  • CRiSTALYZERx

I found this absolutely savage tbh
    And I loved it
    https://i.gyazo.com/92827cfe2353d3bca8e169f6ac9a5067.gif

    • Zackasaur

      The combos are beyond sick.

      • vishmarx

i love how the weapons all circle around him while switching

        • Yuntu

“The game doesn’t look like Versus XIII! I want my Nomura game back!”

          Haha.

          • Silent Nyan

Now it looks like Versus 13 *-*

          • vishmarx

remember how everyone was bitching about the slow and grounded combat !?he’s basically flying and moving around during the entire trailer lol

            • Yuntu

Yeah, that’s why I still think the Duscae demo was too early released.

              • CRiSTALYZERx

No it wasn’t… It was simply a proof that the game existed
It’s people’s expectations that went over the roof

                • Yuntu

                  That’s also true.

              • Zackasaur

I actually think it was released at the perfect time to both (1) demonstrate a working game and (2) have time to incorporate all of our feelings into the final design.

                • Yuntu

I agree to that, but I never doubt that there wasn’t a working game.

                  • Zackasaur

Neither did I, of course. But some people did, and the new SE felt like they had a lot of proving to do, to make sure that everyone understood that they’re not like the old SE.

    • ayanami-chan

Got some Deus Ex HR sepia going on

    • –ZERO–

Honestly the way Noctis is warping around and jumping around attacking enemies reminds me of the first Versus XIII trailer

      • Zackasaur

        Yeah~

It’s way more refined now, though. Partially due to being nearly done, and partially due to being on PS4 instead of PS3.

        • Yuntu

I wonder from what build this video is from, what I mean is if it is the most recent one or also older like the progress report.

          • Zackasaur

This video is from August/September footage.

        • –ZERO–

I wonder if we’ll be able to break peoples necks with his legs like he did in the trailer lol

          • Yuntu

Those aren’t people, those are robots. I doubt they have bones, atleast I don’t think they have.

            • –ZERO–

They probably don’t,but if I can’t snap Iedolas neck with my legs I’m gonna be pissed lol

          • Zackasaur

Not sure! Given the reliance on weapons, I don’t know if we’ll do much with legs and fists.

  • Bacon

This game looks fucking amazing. It looks like they’ve really improved the gameplay since i’ve last seen it.

  • CRiSTALYZERx

I just realized that they weren’t joking about inflammable things
The oil that dropped from the mech looked absolutely beautiful when it took fire

    • Silent Nyan

They actually burned stuff to get the right effect in game

      • CRiSTALYZERx

        Yeah~
SE was actually BUILDING (in all the sense of the word) a world here.

  • donkey3

Shrine Auditorium huh lol I remember some years ago my high school was planning to hold our senior graduation there but it got canned all thanks to our stingy-ass dean. I can’t wait for the release date. Hopefully we’ll play it on September.

    • Zackasaur

That actually would be a fairly expensive graduation. xD

      • donkey3

The thing is… the seniors can donate by purchasing graduation packages. I’ve bought the first one which was $500 and most of my peers paid that much as well. We’ve met the goal ($40k I believe) but our dean changed her mind. It was so shady.

But in the following year the school held it there.

        • Zackasaur

          Well, that IS shady.

And, jeez, $500 is kind of crazy.

          • donkey3

            Packages A B C
Included useless junks like cards with your name printed on them.

        • nerO_Orin

Sounds like a Kickstarter that got mid-way and the developers dropped the ball on it.

  • vishmarx

using magic in this game is gonna be glorious!
imagine a thundaga in a rainstorm! having simple projectiles would have been underwhelming when everything else looks so grand in comparison.
magic stood out previously because attack was the only other option besides the rare limit breaks.
also, any idea what that attack was when he speared the magitek’s leg and there was a dark aura around it

    • –ZERO–

The way they describe it, it seems like magic will work like VIII where you get magic from gather spots and stock up on it like items

      • Yuntu

As long as we don’t need do improve our stats with that I’m fine with it.

    • CRiSTALYZERx

      NHHNNGGGGHH
      Gonna feel so OP~
Imagine summoning in Altissia! The water mirroring the gorgeous SE trademark sparkles from the sky! I’ll cry

    • Yuntu

That was the leg breaking and oil coming out.

    • a.mubher

One of XIII’s weak points for me was the magic, It was so underwhelming. Now it seems too epic to be true xD

      • Zackasaur

I am a FFXIII fan (though it’s obvious that FFXV is going to blow it and everything else out of the water), but you’re largely right about the magic.

Originally, FFXIII had bigger plans for magic, including things like electricity spreading through water. FFXV is taking those ideas, making them way better, and giving them to us in a truly real-time system.

        • Yuntu

Yeah you clearly notice that they run into trouble while developing XIII and needed to cut out ideas and probably content as well.

  • Martian Wong

So the tech demo will be on PSN right?

    • Yuntu

Probably, he said “as many people as possible”.

    • Silent Nyan

I think it’s gonna be on the event

      • Martian Wong

If event only, only 6000 get to experience the most. But I doubt 6000 can get a chance to do so.

  • a.mubher

The way environment element and weather affect the magic is nothing short of impressive, So much dynamism. Simply wow.

  • Ksatmata

now, it feels more like MGS than previous FF

    • Ferrick

      ..

  • quodvadis

I’m still quite apathetic toward this game.

However, I’m quite interested to see how all this constant hyping after years of silence, and after FFXIII, will end up for SE. I don’t think it’ll be like XB1 reveal launch and the months of comedy following that, but I hope it’ll be entertaining lol.

Not gonna buy the game day one of course.

  • nerO_Orin

So I’m guessing the way the magic elements are being classified as item but not quite at the same time. I think it follows the FF8 Draw formula when it comes to magic.

    – You have a fixed amount of slot depending on your Magic stats.
    – Draw locations fixed around the overworld for you to stock/re-stock your Magic.
    – Draw magic from monsters.
    – Some very powerful magic(Holy,Ultima,etc..) have limited slots so you don’t spam them with ease.

    • –ZERO–

I wouldn’t compare it too much, I don’t think we can ‘draw’ magic from enemies, and they said that magic needs to take up a weapon slot to be able to use

      • nerO_Orin

Hmmm maybe not the enemy part, but I do believe there are some similarities on how it works.

  • Zuhri69

Wait, one question. Is the battle footage on PC or on console? It looks quite pretty and if that is on PC then maybe, a graphical downgrade is inevitable.

    Hmmmmppphhh.

    Regardless, HYPE

    • Zackasaur

It’s a dev build that is actively being ported over to console (and nearly finished).

They’re optimising right now, but this is what we should expect (at least from the PS4 version).

In other words, no, this is not some sort of over-spec version.

      • Zuhri69

I hope so. I don’t graphical downgrade but it will be nice to actually see the console footage since that’s what we’re gonna play for hours.

        • Zackasaur

We’ll see that soon, but I suspect it won’t really look any different. This is thoroughly a console game, after all.

It doesn’t make sense to show unfinished optimisation, especially if this is more indicative of what we’ll actually be playing.

  • CRiSTALYZERx

“The game will fail because Tabata can’t recreate the action from the 2013 trailer…”
    https://media1.giphy.com/media/Sd4rgKxBUKPLy/200_s.gif

    • Zackasaur

That 2013 action is nothing compared to this!

      • Infinity

        I think he was joking.

        • Zackasaur

He was. I was agreeing. c:

  • –ZERO–

    General Glauca looks really cool
I wonder what his/its story is

    • CRiSTALYZERx

He really reminded me of Amano’s art with his armor! I think it’s a nice nod if it’s supposed to be

      • Yuntu

Yeah he doesn’t look like a Nomura design.

        • –ZERO–

I think we should be happy about that

    • DesmaX

He looks like if a FF XII Judge turned into a Cie’th

    • nerO_Orin

      Well he looks like he’s

  • –ZERO–

And here I thought Iedolas was gonna be the main bad guy and Ardyn would switch sides later in the game but now I think its gonna be the other way around

  • vishmarx

im sure there are still people hanging around sure that itll be delayed?

    • Zackasaur

      Of course.

      • vishmarx

its like they go out of their way to be ignorant just to bitch about it,
just the other day someone was pissed upon realizing noctis is the only playable character and that SE deceived us all.
        //
it was literally clarified in the very first atr ever.

        • Zackasaur

          Dumb people are dumb. lol

    • –ZERO–

Yep! And there are still people bitching about it not having character switching,Stella,ATB combat,’boy bands’,and the all male party

      • https://twitter.com/Digimon__Tamer Daniel Rossevelt

Those first two are legit complaints though, both of those were originally a part of the game so to see them removed sucks. Especially when there was no reason to remove one of theme (Stella).

Removing character switching was understandable, but people have the right to be disappointing. However replacing a well received character for no reason is completely stupid.

    • iron_maw84

People are dumb. You expect any less? =/

    • Infinity

Can’t delay a game when you don’t have a full release date for it.. Heck, come March when they do announce the full release date then they can ponder if Square will delay it.

      • vishmarx

nope people still love speculating that itll be delayed to 2017,18 or never

    • quodvadis

And then there are people who go out of their way to bitch about those people.

      It’s hilarious already.

      • KingNigma

        not really

        • quodvadis

          sure

      • vishmarx

having a hard time digesting that salt?not finding enough troll support today?

        • quodvadis

          Q.E.D.

  • Bebop

LMFAO “we have a release date announcement date” LOL

  • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

Square Enix is really great with these event windows.

This ATR was set for January. “Okay, the date is lassssst possible day we can do it in January.”

Now the March event. “Okay, it’s the lasssssst possible day we can do it in March.”

    • kthanxyousuck

Quick, which month has the absolute last day on a Tuesday (or a friday). This might be a hint at a release date.

      • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

        Just May 31

        • kthanxyousuck

          Take Japan into consideration!

          • vishmarx

its simultaneous release on the current gen consoles so im guessing the west takes priority

            • kthanxyousuck

I feel like Japan would still get the 12 hour advantage lol. So if we think like that then October 31st is also possible.

    • Ferrick

Square Enix, playing us like a damn fiddle since 2006

    • nerO_Orin

All I say is, better March 30th than April 1st. The latter date would cause so much stress while watching the livestream.

Tabata: FFXV is releasing tomorrow, *crowd goes crazy* lol jkjk April’s Fool.

      • Yuntu

I wonder if they will do something like this again.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KiYHh3GvB4

        I would laugh.

      • vishmarx

itll be april 1 in japan.
        ohshit.gif

        • oNionKnight08

Its actually on the 31st in JP….. but I get the jk :p

          Meanwhile in EU:
          I….. can’t go…. to.. to sleep yet…. FFXV!!!… ugh..

        • Lulcielid

          March has 31 days

          • vishmarx

            thank god

      • Lulcielid

        March has 31 days.

  • donkey3

I hope the game will play in a STEADY 30 fps on consoles.

    • vishmarx

its a mainline ff, im certain itll have a mostly rock solid 30 with no need of day 1 patches

      • donkey3

Games that run smooth on my PS4 are Bloodborne, MGS V, and the Order:1886 (not counting remasters and indies). Games like Witcher 3, Fallout 4, or Until Dawn plays like ass on the PS4. As amazing FFXV looks, I’m more worried about the performance.

        • Yuntu

Bloodborne doesn’t run smooth. It has some clear drops in performance. But yeah you never know, but I trust SE. And Tabata said that they aim for solid 30FPS and will go performance over visual.

        • Bebop

im gonna call bullshit bruh…I love Bloodborne but it has frame rate issues like crazy in certain areas..Until dawn and the witcher 3 played like ass? yea….no

          • vishmarx

bb has frame pacing issues during co op in old yharnam i think./
w3 ran like ass according the analysis in novigrad and swamps, but i never really noticed it much tbh.
the animation/input lag was horrible though.
until dawn had an unlocked framerate and would fluctuate anywhere b/w 20 and 40fps

            • Bebop

Blood borne has frame rate issues regardless of co op. Until Dawn i had 0 frame issues at all

              • Yuntu

Until Dawn has some though, but it isn’t the kinda game where you would notice it that much.

                • Bebop

I’ve beat it like 4 times lol i havent noticed any…but like you said its not something youd notice in that type of game

              • vishmarx

ud isnt fast enough for you to notice fps issues lol, but definitely has drops

              • donkey3

It does when the characters are getting chased by the killer or etc.

                • Bebop

hmmm…maybe i just didnt notice it at all.i loved that game i might have had Joy goggles on lol

                  • donkey3

It was still a great game though. I’m glad I bought it for $20 :)

                    • Bebop

thats great price to get it! i think if it had randomly generated character roles. it could have had an endless replayability but alas…oh well

            • MrFinalgamer

Swamps ran at low-mid 20fps worst case scenario on PS4. Now it only drops 1-3 frames, and is almost constant 30fps now.

          • donkey3

Bloodborne ran pretty smooth most of the time. Witcher 3 ….Compare to PC…. yeah bro. Btw I’m not looking for any consoles v. PC war

            • Bebop

i didnt think you were starting a console war. but Blooborne was notorious for frame issues at parts, W3 got patched up on that issue too i think FFXV will prob be ok

              • donkey3

I just wanted to mention it to prevent having my comments removed.

Idk, man. I guess the matter is subjective. I’ve played the demo (on the Xbox One) and that fluctuating frame rate bugged me a lot. But I shouldn’t judge anything from a nearly a year old demo. We’ll see.

                • Bebop

oh…you played the Demo of FFXV on x1? I Dont want to start console war ether but that version had the worst performance out of the 2…by far

                • vishmarx

xb1 run the demo much worse than ps4 btw, ps4 also got a slight gfx bump in the patch that xb1 didnt iirc

                  • donkey3

                    They’re both bad anyway :p

        • vishmarx

japanese AAA games, as rare as they are ship with a lot more polish than bethesda crap(with all due respect lol)
even last gen ,ff13 didnt get a single patch

          • Yuntu

            It didn’t?

            • vishmarx

              nope

      • Yuntu

Yeah, looking at XCX I’m amazed how polished JRPGs mostly launch. I mean after 150 hours with it I didn’t encounter one bug.

    • Bebop

i hope the game makes it to consoles

      • vishmarx

        huh?

        • Bebop

          lol! bruh

          • vishmarx

ok now i get it lol…

            • Bebop

hahaha Come on brotha, you know me

              • vishmarx

im just a little sleepy is all…../

                • Bebop

get some rest nigguh! dont be over workin yourself

  • Karysonson

A phrase that described that battle trailer for me…
    “Versus is back baby!”

    http://orig02.deviantart.net/1054/f/2013/194/9/6/ffxv_5_by_gifsandmore-d6dcn6q.gif

    • a.mubher

It was never gone, baby. ;p

      • Karysonson

The slow combat in the the demo worried me but I’m glad they brought it back to a more fast paced system.

        • Yuntu

They didn’t brought it back, it was always there. They just couldn’t realize it for the demo.

But I get what you are saying.

    • vishmarx

the current build is like a less bloomy and faster version of this,

      • Karysonson

        Yup!

        • vishmarx

          and its ridiculous,
i mean duscae was so slow and 2013 footage looked so fast compared to it and now all of a sudden , the current one’s not only faster but has way better animation frames

          • Karysonson

Probably had to downgrade the system for the demo.

            • vishmarx

the animators have done a tremendous job, theres not a frame missing there and all the movement feels so natural.
what i mean is, look at any action game, to keep up with the speed , the transition b/w various animations is usually instantaneous .
say you attack cancel into a dodge, then the attack animation is instantly replaced by the dodge animation while here youll probably see the character stop the attack and gradually transition into the dodge in the same time

  • Bonn Bo

As someone who was piss salty about the transition from versus to XV (Gameplay wise), and was quite vocal about it, Tabata did a mighty good job at shutting me the fug up. This game looks amaze balls.

  • Kero

Man, first few minutes felt like Metal Gear.

And that Dragoon Lady is definitely voiced by based Sawashiro.

    • nerO_Orin

      Did someone say Miyuki Sawashiro?!?!?!

    • vishmarx

ffxv was chapter 3 all along,
kojima pulled off the ultimate prank

      • Yuntu

At the March event Tabata gotta take off the mask and shows that he is Kojima. Calling it now.

        • KingNigma

have we ever seen them in the same room

          • Yuntu

I think we are on to something.

            • Silent Nyan

Then we will see “A Hajime Tabata Game” on every loading, chapter, and practically everywhere.

              • oNionKnight08

Nah, Tabata won’t do that. More like “a Square Enix BD2 Production” followed by striving for excellence slogan :D

    • Mike

      Yep definitely her!

  • comfortablecoffin

    TABATA HAS SAVED FINAL FANTASY

BLESS THIS MAN AND ALL OF HIS CHILDREN

    • Zackasaur

I would definitely credit Nomura and Tabata with that, but especially Nomura. He designed the project, kept it alive despite executive attacks that would have otherwise ended it completely, turned it into XV, and got it to the point where he could pass it off to Tabata (after training him and making him a co-director) to wrap up.

And Tabata has done an incredible job, too.

    • oNionKnight08

I can definitely feel the Type-0 ish (PSP+HD Post patch) camera and tone of the action. AND there is definitely some Nomura KHII in there. :D

  • AnimusVox

Aranea looks like a dragoon version Roeas from ‘The Last Remnant’; not that I’m complaining or anything

  • Kero

I hope FFXV comes with FFVIIR demo.

    • Yuntu

I hope not, because then all people will talk about is the VIIR demo. This game deserves all the attention not a remake.

      • nerO_Orin

That’s what happened to FF-Type 0 release. FFXV videos everywhere.

        • Yuntu

          That’s why I’m saying it.

    • vishmarx

nah, xv can sell enough on its own.
kh 2.8 needs to come with a ff7 r demo.
theres also the matter or ff7 being ps4 only so thatll create disparity of content b/w the two versions,
      2.8 is an exclusive.

      • Bebop

lol yea could you imagine…the Demo of FFVIIR only on ps4 versions….like a smack to the other fanbase lol

        • Infinity

Was there any fanbase to start with on the Xbox?

          • Bebop

lol i was waiting for that comment ;) i guess my sarcasm was not as noticeable

            • Infinity

No, I’m just not a funny kind of guy. So jokes and sarcasm will go completely over my head.

        • vishmarx

          what other fanbase?
the reviews from xbox fansites will be amazing!
          2/10
          pros
          + has guns
          + has and army base

          cons
          -no multiplayer
-shooting doesnt feel as good gears/halo
-driving doesnt have the depth of forza
          -too big
          -too long
          -not enough body hair
          -not enough explosions or grenades
          -no body armor
-characters talk face to face instead using walkie talkies
          -made in japan
          -its an rpg

          • Bebop

            lmao “not enough body hair”
            you forgot one…
            -Too many colors

            • vishmarx

              more like
              ‘- more than 4 colors’

              • Bebop

                – Too much detail to the Hair

                • vishmarx

-hair on an uncovered head, and its even animated
the wasted effort couldve easily gone into making more gun types and multiplayer

                  • Bebop

-Too many Zippers preventing armor suits

          • oNionKnight08

            add explosions in pros :D

      • DesmaX

2.8 already comes with a KH III demo, tho

        • vishmarx

which would again lead to disparity considering kh3 is on xbox but 2.8 isnt lol

          • Bebop
            • vishmarx

              sure …..
              lol
i wonder if nomura even remembers that considering the game has touch controls used in combat,
and anyone who’s played kh knows how prominently combat gimmicks are used in the kh games

              • Bebop

has there ever been a game that had a version canceled ?

                • KingNigma

mortal kombat and mad max last gen versions

                  • Bebop

oh daammmnn… how was that pizza?

                    • KingNigma

i mean..it did it’s job. potato wedges were lookin kinda funky tho

                    • Bebop

potato wedges and pizza? what in da fuq?

                    • KingNigma

yea? not that much different from pizza with fries right?? or is this just some weird canadian thing

                    • Bebop

                      pizza and wiinngss playa!

                    • KingNigma

after the look of those wedges i think ima have to start going with that. only got those cuz my sis dont eat meat

                    • Bebop

oh well word bruh, bein that coo big bro!

                    • KingNigma

                      heck ya

                    • Bebop

yo if the division is on point. we gotta get it, so we can make a dope crew and wreck fools

                    • KingNigma

not convinced yet to get it full price cuz of that dlc nonsense but on sale for like $30 i’m down

                    • Bebop

It’s suppose to have 3 free expansions though

                • vishmarx

it honestly seems very likely for kh3,
its like theyre not even interested. probably waiting for xv to sell poorly on xbox to announce it.
but who am i kidding, they could silently cancel the release and no one would even notice if they paid the media to shut up.

                  • MrFinalgamer

That would create some really bad rep for a bit, I’d say.

                    • vishmarx

Haven’t seen a big change for FF since FF7. Stick with the times.

  • Wondering_Zero

Oh man that battle music. I honestly can’t wait any longer for this and it looks like we’re in the final stretch. It was a long time coming but I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

    • Zackasaur

Yoko Shimomura is a genius being comparison. <3

      • oNionKnight08

Yoko Shimomura isn’t the only one doing the music. Other people are also involved.

        • Zackasaur

          1. It wouldn’t matter, because this is ~very clearly~ Shimomura work in the trailer.
          2. I haven’t found any evidence of an understudy composer… Care to link anything? I’m digging around, but every track we’ve heard so far has been Shimomura, and everywhere I find credits, she is the only person listed.

          • KingNigma

she can’t play violin and piano together bc she is not an octopus

            • Zackasaur

              We’re clearly talking about composers.

Obviously they have a live orchestra involving many people playing instruments. -_-

              • oNionKnight08

Obviously the base tracks are by her. What I meant is that there are people working with her. “Yoko Shimomura” is like a team+outsourcing+orders on what kind of music should be produced.

                • Zackasaur

Sure, but that’s an insanely pedantic thing to say to someone complementing her brilliance as a composer. Nobody needed you to jump in and remind everyone what a composer’s job is.

                  • oNionKnight08

I don’t see that as being ‘insanely pedantic’ since I am not only complimenting her but also the team behind this. Maybe my previous statement is just sending the wrong tone. :

                    • Zackasaur

Maybe so. My intent in complimenting her is not to downplay the wonderful staff who work for her. c:

Obviously an incredible composer needs incredible staff/musicians, and she has had those for ages.

                      Perhaps there was a misunderstanding.

                    • oNionKnight08

Nah, my statement is monotonous. Probably if I added more than one liners it would had been understood. For that I apologize. I’ll be careful next time here on the net. (Not that this is the 1st time it happened though :p )

                    • Zackasaur

It’s okay. All is fine, now. c:

It happens to all of us. But not everyone handles it with grace once the confusion is over. I appreciate your disposition.

            • vishmarx

loool, im pretty sure lead composers are usually the ones credited for creating music not the whole orchestra.
              they just follow instructions.

              • KingNigma

k i was kidding but now you and zack are making me look silly :(

                • Zackasaur

Sorry, sometimes the internet obscures our intentions!

This makes sense now why Sony is working on a new big JRPG when FF is having a big change since FF7.

With that said, we got Arc the Lad, Wild Arms and a few other JRPGs from Sony. People have complained on the lack of first party JRPGs since the PS3 era. Sony just wanted a big change in the industry for the genre before they went back to it. It hasn’t been a better time to revive the genre.

    • FlareKnight

Yes….this must be their master plan.

  • oNionKnight08

Aranea HIGHWIND. ahaha no subtlety there. :D They confirmed her as a dragoon anyways :p

  • vertical09

There so many things I can say about this.
The graphics. The music. The vastly improved combat. The return of Dragoon lady! The little details like that croc monster rolling while biting on to Noctis’ arm.

This has been a great showing of XV. After so much “in development” and “pre alpha version demo”, we needed something truly hype worthy, and this was it.

I’m never getting off this hype train!

gladio’s version of tempest, i hope noctis’s version can be upgraded into this lol

    • Zackasaur

I am absolutely loving these buddy moves.

    • Bebop

yea that looks dope as hell

    • Zackasaur

The intricacy of the interacting animations is amazing. I love watching Prompto duck because of Gladio’s positioning.

      • Silent Nyan

His head would be severly chopped off if he didn’t xD

        • Zackasaur

Well, yeah! Or something like that. xD

But these interacting animations really make us believe that. Many games would have clipping or at least make sure that the character walks out of the way in advance.

      • vishmarx

this is why i was talking about the complex ai animations being the one of the causes of the no switching thing.
but im honestly okay with this. more of a turn based feeling thing imo

        • Zackasaur

Yeah, I think the way this has developed is, frankly, perfect.

          • vishmarx

i get why people would want more control over them, but seriously, right now its at the very least as much turn based ffs.the only thing youre not able to do is move around and attack as them which makes sense noctis having multiple weapons and warping abilities is clearly much superior to them in that regard.
why would anyone want to drag his feet as gladio when you can basically fly around while using the same moves he does..

            • Zackasaur

              100% agreed.

    • vileBrenman

Wait a minute you can play as the other characters other than noctis?! I thought they were gonna make us always Noctis I’m glad if we can play as any of them

      • MrFinalgamer

No, each party member has a certain ability that you can have them do whenever you want, and it looks like the camera will shift towards them when they do the ability.

        • vileBrenman

Aww man. Well noctis has a bunch of weapons so i guess that makes up 4 it

          • Zackasaur

            Yeah, he easily makes up for it. He can use the weapons of his allies, along with others that they can’t. And teleport. c;

By having them as AI allies, they get to further enhance the core gameplay instead, while adding better AI, buddy moves, and ally-specific skill trees.

            It all looks great!

          • vishmarx

            he has ALL the weapons…
and exclusive magic and summons and techs phantom sword more and whatnot.

        • oNionKnight08

*gasp! where’s Budgiecat (if I spelled that right) :p

      • vishmarx

no you only move around and attack as noctis, but you can manually select commands for every character in the party like any old ff though. using that command shifts the camera to the member

        • Noctis Pendragon

Maybe it is the 2nd battle mode .

  • Kattaro

Final Fantasy XV producer Hajime Tabata promises they’re not going to reveal a bunch of information only then say that the game is coming out in 2017. A 2016 release date will be announced.

    Wat?

    • Silent Nyan

Hajime Tabata promised that he won’t announce FF15 to be released in 2017 after giving out so much information. He is determined to release it at 2016.

    • MrFinalgamer

The game will come out in 2016 like stated previously, with no delays.

      • FlareKnight

Though really if they are making the announcement at that date. Then they might as well just say now it’s coming out November.

        • Bebop

it will come out December 31…;)

          • Unknowingreaper

At 12:59:59 not a second sooner too

            • Bebop

Lol my man, you get it!

          • D.3ND

If that’s the case why didn’t they push the announcement to E3?

            • Bebop

Lol I’m just kidding around Bruh, I have no idea wtf is going with SE

        • MrFinalgamer

Why? Bethesda announced the release date for Fallout 4 5 months before its release, so why can’t XV be a September release (or earlier)?

      • Kattaro

I understand, thanks for the reply.

  • Richard Miller

I assume that this game will come out winter 2016.

    • FlareKnight

Pretty reasonable presumption. If they are making a big event in March then it’s not coming out this summer. Which really leaves November/December as the most likely date.

      • DoUEvenLeviosa?

Not this only but look how many elements are not 100% complete.

        • vishmarx

take a look at the dates below each scene…..

      • Yuntu

I doubt that. If they would release it at November/December they could just make it a big announcement at E3, they won’t do a special stage 3 months before E3 if it wouldn’t come out earlier than Fall/Winter. Atleast I think it would be thrown away money.

  • vileBrenman

I want this game to be good cause it looks amazing hopefully its not too short

    • vishmarx

minimum 50 hour story is already confirmed

  • swiss

good that its coming out this year,im more excited with this
    than the multi FF7R

  • swiss

im also happy they somehow adjusted the camera already, even fighting small enemies
back in duscae the camera was so close to the characters that it makes me a little bit dizzy which was of the major issues of the game

  • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

The only thing that scares me is the item-style magic. If they mean you set magic to a slot like in KH BBS then that’s okay. But don’t ref FF8. The draw system was annoying. As I moved thru the game I’d always run out of magic in the middle of a boss battle. And even if I won I’d have to go back to obscure dungeons to find more Meltdown or Curaga or Flare.

    • Unknowingreaper

What killed me was junction magic worst idea every. I just stayed away from but yes those three especially meltdown which was the best spell in game were a pain to find

      • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Id rather each character just learn spells.

    • vishmarx

theres regular mp based magic too btw,

      • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

        Still.

    • D.3ND

It’s too soon to say, I believe their trying to do a Hybrid between Materia and Draw

    • Lahm

That’s exactly what i wasn’t keen on. don’t like the idea that you equip it instead of a weapon, but will have to wait till i see more and try it myself.

      • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Yeah that’ll push out options of what to switch to mid fight. Guess ill just have swords and magics.

        • Lahm

I thought magic would have been like kingdom heart where you had 4 spells mapped to the buttons for short cuts. Hopefully its not like the draw system, but instead the more element you draw in upgrades the magic to fira from fire.

          • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

I could roll with that. As Noct moves thru the game he finds places with lots of elemental energy. He absorbs it. And get fire. Later do it again elsewhere and Fire becomes Fira. Maybe even at a point all elements moves up. Like Water and Lightning. Fire and wind. So more than one element upgrades.

As long as it’s not “Noct can only shoot Fire 3 times before sleeping or before finding a new draw point.”

  • SMTGamer

Looks nice, hopefully it’s not as dull as the demo. Also, #LetTimHost

  • bloodiOS

This actually looks fun and feels like it’ll be enjoyable to play, much more than Episode Duscae was (that thing really left a horrible impression.)

    • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

I think they admitted the not much was put in the demo because it was just to get people into the characters and world not as a decent impression the finale project.

    • MetalRizeAwesomeOnmipenismon

She better be in the new Dissida…

    • http://herondales.tumblr.com/ kmellark

Duscae wasn’t THAT bad. It’s purpose was to show off the gameplay and give fans something to accompany with the release of Type 0. I personally enjoyed it and considering they fixed a lot of stuff including the camera angles and combat mechanics, I’m now looking forward to the release of FFXV and another demo.

      • bloodiOS

Yes, that was its purpose and what it showed me was an overly clunky, repetitive, and stale experience. It became more bearable after the update but the vanilla version completely filled me with disgust! Needless to say though, different strokes for different folks. But that doesn’t matter as I am now looking forward to playing the game when it launches.

  • The Silent Hours

That dragoon lady looks cool. I hope she’ll be a constant presence throughout the game.

    • vishmarx

im guessing she’ll become and ally and teach noctis some high level dragoon techs, give him her spear and then sacrifice herself for the greater good

      • Yuntu

Yo stop spoiling the script. That’s not nice.

      • https://twitter.com/Pekolachi Pekola

Oh gosh hope that doesn’t happen. It would be too dang cliche.

Just let her join the party. I mean, she’s already wearing black.

        • vishmarx

she’s a merc. working for the enemy . the fact that she’s no longer a captain makes it almost certain she’ll defect eventually, and defection usually means death 75% of the way through, after offcourse youve helped out the good guys with something crucial yet forgotten easily

      • KingNigma

        lame

    • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

She better not be a dominatrix.

  • Riese Natasha

The day that this game come out is the day I buy myself a PS4.
Pretty sure they will be a FFXV x PS4 limited edition by then.

    • Zackasaur

It ~could~ be that only Japan gets a limited edition PS4.

I hope the whole world does, of course.

      • Christopher Simmons

Even if that’s true there are settings in the ps4 where you can just change the language so it really wouldn’t matter your just have to order it!!!

        • Zackasaur

          Yep, that would be doable.

      • Riese Natasha

Well I hope it’s world wide. I live in Asia anyway so it’s easy for me to get from Japan.

  • Kattaro

I hope the game will have japanese voice, it may be even though DLC like in Lightning’s Return.

    • vishmarx

i *think* thats confirmed as well iirc, as dlc btw.

      • Kattaro

I heard that Tabata is thinking to make japanese voice into a DLC but I don’t know if he really will do it. I hope that next even will give us answers to many questions like Collector’s Edition, Collector’s Edition and Collector’s Edition.

        • Lulcielid

According to him, English & Japanese audio would not fit in a single disc, that’s why a second audio would be DLC sometime after the game releases.

        • Yuntu

They even did the japanese DLC for Lightning Returns, I doubt they won’t do it here. And it was free.

          • http://www.rpgplayer.org MechaMefi

As long it’s free I have no problem with it.

            • Yuntu

I think LR was like 1 month for free or something and then like 2,99€ or so.

  • Noctis Caelum

OMG only by looking at these screens I was just O_O
    Simply amazing!!

  • Seihō

so… the announcement date is officially announced

  • XrosBlader821

who’s that chick from the thumbnail?

    • Yuntu

“Aranea Highwind is the fan-favorite “dragoon” we’ve been seeing since the Final Fantasy Versus XIII
days. She’s captain of the Niflheim Empire’s Third Army Corps 86th
Airborne Unit. She’s skilled in aerial combat, so people in the army
refer to her as the “dragoon.” It wasn’t just a fan saying after all.”

  • Infinity

It would be nice if the game had side boss battles that had nothing to do with the story, but more of other worldly encounters like getting to fight Sephiroth, or Lightning.

    Something Kingdom Hearts 2 did.

    • Unknowingreaper

Nah I pass on that. I’m tried of other final fantasy characters getting shoehorn into everything with a final fantasy name

    • vishmarx

the game will probably have hunts similar to ff12, but i doubt we’ll get cameo fights. would be damned awesome to bash lightning’s face in though

      • Unknowingreaper

You can do that in ff 13 2

        • vishmarx

yeah, the arena fight. but nah. not with the 2 lamo’s .
i want to powerbomb her with gladio and then slice her into ribbons with my katana

  • The Fabulous Wombat

Thank god the frog locomotion is at 100%, if all else fails, the game will still be saved.

    • vishmarx

theres a toad spell, its already saved

  • http://drewnelson2650.weebly.com/ Big Drew

The Final Fantasy of my dreams, here, in detailed fruition. Everything has been improved upon following the episode Duscae (as it should). That flame spell at the end though 0_0. Day one consumer right here Enix!

  • OldManObelisk

    Game looks wonderful. Can’t wait.

  • The Fabulous Wombat

Anyway, i hope there are some badass, large scale spells, like you can do in Dragon’s DOgma. Not just small blasts/projectiles, cuz honestly, that sounds boring af.

  • DoUEvenLeviosa?

Final Fantasy XV producer Hajime Tabata promises they’re not going to reveal a bunch of information only then say that the game is coming out in 2017. A 2016 release date will be announced.

Didn’t catch this for some reason… Then say that the game is coming out in 2017?

    • vishmarx

it means its absolutely coming out in 2016 without a shred of doubt

    • http://psi-star-draws.tumblr.com/ Psi-Star

I think you’re misreading the tone of the message.
Tabata’s p much saying “we’re not gonna drop a bunch of cool new info and say the release date’s been moved up another year (again). The scheduled release date is still 2016”

  • vishmarx

lol that magitek soldier that doesnt ever even need to jump has better jumping animations that bethesda has ever managed in their lifetime

  • lolbat

So, you can’t steal and use the magitek armor and so far magic really was as i suspected.

A single aoe spell with larger effect depending on the environment. I really hoped magic would take on different forms (fireball, flamethrower) or at the very least keep the ones from past footage.

Oh well, atleast the combat looked decent enough and Dragoon lady is still in along with turret control.

    • a.mubher
      • Mar Mar

FF goes Battlefield for a second

      • CloudFire

Hope we can still jack their mechs as shown in the previous Versus 13 trailers.

    • vishmarx

elemental magics aren’t projectiles and they work realistically(only amplified)…

    • Noctis Pendragon

You can’t steal it , they mean you can’t take it as yours i think ( e.g : doing a whole section with a magitek you stole ) .

  • Uncle Stoopnixie

So how many times did they announce an announcement for the announcement of the release date now?

    • Yuntu

This is the first time. But good try.

  • Fooey

This game better be great. SE’s reputation is literally on the line here. If they screw this up I’m not sure how they’ll recover.

That being said, the game looks great and also fun to play. Though I anticipate the story will not be as good (FF plots were never amazing) but we’ll see when the game comes out.

    • Yuntu

Yo many FFs are golden for their story and nothing else. That being said I doubt they fuck this up.

  • Cheng

What about Water, Wind and Earth as part of the Elemental Magic? Only Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder? : o I’m curious what the Ring Magic is though. Hmmm Other than that, I can’t wait. I’m excited to hear and see what else is in store for us.

    • http://www.rpgplayer.org MechaMefi

Well, a lot of other FFs lack of those elements too, It would be cool for sure to have them, but I don’t think is “necesary”.

At least we have summons with those elements right?

    • a.mubher

Maybe they are part of the other type of magic. “Ring magic” which is exclusive to the royal family. But nobody knows at this point,

    • vishmarx

water wind earth tend not to have spell lines like fira>firaga , blizzaga and are usually one off. like quake , tornado etc..

      • http://www.rpgplayer.org MechaMefi

And also usually those are used by enemies, like in FFVII and IX, some dudes had air and water spells (Well, Vivi can learn a single and pretty useless water spell)

    • Noctis Pendragon

I think it is like FF TYpe-0 where there is only Trunhder , Fire and BLizzard spell sections but you can still use Tornado and stuffs like that .

  • http://www.rpgplayer.org MechaMefi

This is definitely the year I’ll get a PS4.

  • Retro Reloaded

The hype. I’m feeling it again. No, it’s not gonna be good! Not at all! No hype! Error!

  • DavidCage

Ok,now the antagonist name has been revealed,so is there any character that still not announced from Versus XIII slice face image????

    • Yuntu

The guy with the hoodie that looked like a Assasins Creed character.

      • DavidCage

Oh yes,i forgot about him,and red/pink haired guy (not the fedora guy) too, since he had different face (rougher) than fedora guy

  • http://ryuz4ki57.wordpress.com/ Ryuzaki57

Hype officially back to maximum levels

    • badmoogle

I don’t want to watch the footage but is that the same Dragoon woman we had seen years ago when the game was still FF Versus ?

      • MetalRizeAwesomeOnmipenismon

        Yeppp

  • Cavern

We might finally be reaching the end of this incredibly long journey. I really want to see what the final game looks like.

    • ◎הÎsu

      Right on!

  • Rain

The more i read about this game, the more I’m bored outta my mind. I was hyped as fuck for this a couple of years ago, but right now, i might not even get this day 1. Oh well, at least i still have Persona 5.

    • Cheng

Why? What’s so “boring” about it. Just curious.

      • Rain

The plot is really generic and lame, the battle system seems too basic (even tho ARPGs are my fave genre), the environments are too simple and dead, and my biggest issue, the characters. I just don’t think i can enjoy an RPG a lot that doesn’t have any badass goth chicks.

        • vertical09

Never judge a story by it’s premise. Come on now I know you know better.

        • CRiSTALYZERx

-Goth girl: Gentiana seems to do the job pretty well
-Battle system is basic: I’m not even gonna say anything
-Environments are to simple and dead: Someone has never seen Altissia before
-Generic story: Who cares if it’s generic, as long as it’s engaging

          • Rain

Gentiana will probably have no more than like 10 minute in the entire game. I want a playable badass bitch like Fran.

        • Lulcielid

The premise is not what makes a story great, the execution does.

      • a.mubher

Well, he is only “reading” about the game, not watching the hot footage. It kinda makes sense.

        • Rain

I only watched the new gameplay footage and it was “meh”. I am not liking the idea of throwing a rock to cast a spell..

          • a.mubher

            I don’t really understand.
            http://i.giphy.com/cO8EjtJJZ28x2.gif

            • vishmarx

dont bother, he’ll give you 50 other reasons…

              • a.mubher

Sounds like a certain Cat that we know …
                :p

                • vishmarx

nah cat will give you the same reason 50 times instead lol

                  • a.mubher

Lol, You literally made me laugh at work xD

            • Lahm

I think he mean Noctis crushing the element orb to cast the spell. I’m not so keen on having to equip the spell instead of a weapon, but can’t say much until i’ve tried it out myself

    • vishmarx

      then stop reading/caring/commenting?
because every time you comment you seem to be trying too hard.

  • swiss

i hope 2016 will bring jrpgs back to the top with
    Persona 5
    FFXV
    Star Ocean V(please be great)

and hey maybe Dragon quest XI, even the last guardian

    • Bumbayker

Now why do you have doubts that Star Ocean 5 won’t be great?

      • http://www.rpgplayer.org MechaMefi

I guess because a lot of people didn’t quite like Star Ocean 4.
I did like it, but it was my first SO, so can’t compare with the other ones.

        • Bumbayker

Well tri-Ace did explain why Star Ocean 4 turned out that way. SE was focusing on the western market and they were just complying to their policy at the time. They outsourced the story and characters which really wasn’t a good idea.

          • http://www.rpgplayer.org MechaMefi

Well, it didn’t turn out that bad, at least for me.
But if this one is better then everyone is happy. I’m getting it for sure.

            • Bumbayker

I didn’t think it was that bad either actually. It just had a really weak story and cast. But SO5 is definitely shaping up to be better than the last game.

      • Yuntu

Because only Persona is a solid bet, the other two have each split the fanbase with their last singleplayer installment.

        • Bumbayker

That remains to be seen. Who’s to say Persona’s fanbase isn’t split?

        • vishmarx

owing to how long its been since a new persona came out, no one knows how itll do.

      • Some guy

SO5 is based on infinite undiscovery and that game was far from being good.
So yea, it’s a sequel from the terrible SO4 and is based on the mediocre IU gameplay. What could go wrong?

        • Bumbayker

The only thing similar SO5 with Infinite Undiscovery is its seamless combat but the UI and combat is distinctly Star Ocean. What made IU mediocre was mainly for its story and characters. The gameplay was pretty good in my opinion. Just because you think SO4 was bad doesn’t mean this will be as well since SO2 & SO3 were awesome games. SO4 was very weak in its story and characters due being outsourced but the battle system was still a great experience.

          • Some guy

Can’t say much about SO4 since all I know is that pretty much everyone hates it.
IU gameplay was was from good, mash square for the same 3 attacks combo, use one of the 4 skills you can equip at once and maybe link with an ally to make them use their skills.
And that’s all there is for 20 hours of gameplay. Not saying it’s so bad it ruins the game, just that it’s not good enough to get hyped.

  • CRiSTALYZERx

    Also y’all
Gladio is a lot hotter than I remember now
    https://i.gyazo.com/04e623346a994798b75e35f765bc2ca7.png
    #mancrush

    • Yuntu

Now that you mention crush, I wonder if Noctis and Luna are actually in love or if that is just a political marriage.

      • CRiSTALYZERx

Well… They know each other since childhood right? Assuming the marriage is political, I don’t think that would have to mean that they don’t have any feelings for each other at all. +Wasn’t Noctis eager to see her again?

        • Yuntu

Yeah. He was – but I think because he was worried about her.

    • Bobby Jennings/GodlessChaos

Where’s all the textures at lol

      • CRiSTALYZERx

Low res screencap from a low quality video

  • AusirBlades

God, that battle footage… so gorgeous. This is the game that makes me finally buy the PS4.

Btw, are the japanese voices coming to west too?

    • Yuntu

Tabata said probably not on disc but they plan to make it a DLC (probably free, Lightning Returns for example also had a free voice DLC).

      • AusirBlades

Nice! It’s always good to have both options, and that being downloadable shouldn’t be any problem.

    • Uncle Stoopnixie

I hope the dlc for original voices is free because the Drakengard 3 one was 11$ and that was also Squeenix.

      • AusirBlades

I think Tabata said some time back then that content like air-ships released as dlc after the initial release would be free, so most likely that would include these original voices (if they are to be dlc that is).

  • Phyo Thant

Why General Glauca armor look so weird. It’s like make out of debris.

  • vishmarx
    • Yuntu

Wtf that dragon. That looks amazing.

  • VBShinra

Man that Chancellor Ardyn Izunia would fit right at home in Bloodborne.
    Really like his outfit

  • Yuntu

I just noticed that the weapon-selection changes to a command selection when you use their commands.

    • Zackasaur

That is way too cool. Thanks!

  • Some guy

Still not sold on the gameplay, looks like changing weapons just change the animation and don’t add any depth. Looks cool though.

  • SirRichard

You’ve put a date on it now, Square, you can’t back down from this one. I will frankly stop giving a shit entirely if they don’t deliver on this one, it’s been long enough.

    I love Aranea’s design, I must say.

  • Yuntu

So apparantly the free tech demo will have young Noctis as the lead character. The one they shortly mentioned in the ATR.

  • Blaz

This pretty much confirms Fall release date.

  • Phelan

Hmm… this battle footage looks boring. Not really FF anymore. Smash, smash, smash, smash, smash, smash, teamate smash, smash, smash, smash. Even more boring that FF XIII autobattle = blitz spam

But hey you are free to disagree! and please don’t even start your holy crusage against me, I already know that there are some who like it, so don’t waste my time trying to argue with me. Please?

    • HirotheBEAST

I simply disagree that this will be a boring game. I can imagine turn based games be boring to some, but not a game with gameplay like this.

      • pekot

        Just ignore the attention w**re.

      • FlareKnight

To be fair that just sounds like a bias against turn based. Any gameplay can be boring if not used well. The same goes for this. Movement doesn’t always mean interesting. Someone waves their keys in front of you, that will still get boring pretty quick.

Not that it will happen here. But you don’t need a big imagination to see possibilities.

      • Phelan

        It’s ok it’s your opinon.

As for your: ” I can imagine turn based games be boring to some, but not a game with gameplay like this.”

It’s ok, maybe you are too young to understand.

        • HirotheBEAST

I was speaking about turn based being boring to some specific people, I play turn based games since 10 years ago. I think I just haven’t explained myself well.

The gameplay can still be boring to some I guess, but the one part that really won’t be is the immersive experience which I don’t think turn based gameplay can capture. I LOVE turn based games, don’t get me wrong.

          • Phelan

Oh I see. Than sorry for jumping into conclusion! It just sounded weird.

            Just to explain:

I’m not against action RPG games, and I like some of them (like Dark Souls). But most of times I find them really easy and really boring. And frankly speaking it’s not that hard to imagine why someone find those boring, it is just button mashing most of times even someone with IQ of daphnia can excel at majority of action RPGs.

And I don’t claim that turn based games are always better, because I know many of games that have god awful battle systems. For example Saturday Morning RPG which frankly speaking would be a lil bit better game if not for those boring battles.

But yes, I do find this gameplay boring, while I loved every FF up to FF X-2. And as you see there are lots of people who try to bash me for having my own opinion. That’s why I’m really fed up with having to explain everything to people who don’t even want to listen.

        • vishmarx

maybe you are too young to understand”

          https://i.ytimg.com/vi/onB-EGRSAsE/maxresdefault.jpg

          • HirotheBEAST

how old must I be to understand?

            • vishmarx

i dunno ask the old ass guy who posted it, he sure is acting mature as hell
              /s

          • Phelan

Well replying with a picture like this won’t make me think I’m talking with adult. Just saying.

But go ahead, if you really need to act so butt hurt to spam me… well whatever to make you happy :*

            • vishmarx

you sure do love replying every time for someone who obviously didnt want to be treated to a response

            • Ratsuki

Well acting dismissive and condescending like this also don’t look mature to me.
And hey that’s my opinion :3

        • Hikari Langley

There is no way this game would be boring to play, but you are in the whole “SE is terrible, where is my SS” group, or maybe just don’t like FF. It’s okay, we don’t all have to like the same game. You can choose to move on, no one will care~

    • vishmarx

If you feel that way and don’t want to be judged by others, then you shouldn’t post it in a place for others to judge you.
and for the record, i disagree, because that way , every FF =attack, attack attack attack attack magic attack attack attack attack magic attack limit break.unless its a bossfight.
the battle footage isnt boring, you just dont like the fact that its not turn based. thats it. be man enough to admit that walk away.

      • Phelan

“If you feel that way and don’t want to be judged by others, then you shouldn’t post it in a place for others to judge you.”

Erm… how long did you think about it?

“every FF =attack, attack attack attack attack magic attack attack attack attack magic attack limit break.unless its a bossfight.”

Seems that you didn’t play FF much, or you started with FF XIII. It’s ok.

But why did you really have to waste your own time and my time with your post? It’s ok, you have your own opinion, that’s fine and dandy, but I don’t care. Please keep your holy crusade for your friends or family, please?

Do you see me replying to every post I don’t agree with? No.

        • vishmarx

reply or dont, up to you.
doesnt mean others shouldnt write down their opinion on yours,
i mean you care enough to reply right now dont you?
if you didnt care for the responses you get, you wouldnt be reading them or better yet responding to them . so clearly, you care .
and its a very obvious case of attention whoring
“hey look at me im posting something totally negative about something you like on this open forum and totally want you to not respond to this because its my opinion ,so basically dont read this post i just made, look away”

          • Vlah

            Don’t bother with him.
            He always does this.
Doesn’t even have proper arguments, he just assumes you haven’t played FF and that’s it.

      • Zackasaur

If he weren’t being childish and in need of his own therapy, he wouldn’t post his vitriolic nonsense and then cry when people respond to it in earnest.

No one gets to dictate how other people respond.

He’s a regular troll here, though. Any regular probably knows that by now.

Kudos for a good post, Vishmarx.

    • Bobby Jennings/GodlessChaos

Why waste time posting if you don’t want to even discuss it…this will provoke others to answer and I’m sure you know that.

I also agree. FF to begin with was smash smash smash smash smash, occasional magic/item smash smash. This seems to change up that formula a bit since you actually have to dodge.

That’s just my two cents. Don’t waste time trying to argue with me.

    • NotCarolKaye

You know, this whole trope of being too cool for newer Final Fantasy games has gotten pretty old. Go do something else with your free time if you don’t like it.

      • ayanami-chan

real talk, is that actually a trope?

        • NotCarolKaye

At this point, yes. Has been for some time.

      • Zackasaur

        Yeah, it’s absolutely asinine.

    • UMR-10

I think you should get a new hobby fam.

    • ayanami-chan

      I like you.

I don’t agree that it’s worse than the FFXIII though

      • Phelan

Well… and frankly speaking it probably is better than FF II which is far worse than FF XIII.

    • ayanami-chan

Come on tho, you jumped into the Lion’s Den, you can’t be upset if at least one of them growls at you.

      • Phelan

        I wouldn’t really call it a Lion’s Den though, more like suricate’s den :)

Look I wouldn’t really mind having a proper conversation about whether X is better than Y. Though we have one problem: one side understand that his opinion are well… like all opinions subjective. On the other hand we have a mob made up from various kids and internet trolls who believes that everything they says is dogma. I

Take a look at my first post: I clearly said that I’m well aware that there are people I don’t agree with, and that they have right to have their opinion. In response what did I get? Annoying kids being angry that someones dare to have his own opinion. “OMG how can you be so stupid to not agree with us” something like this.

So yeah, I don’t really feel that any lion roared at me… more like I feel like an ox trying to sweep all mosquitoes. They are damned annoying, the only thing I can do is well… try to ignore it.

And sorry to say I really don’t feel like stepping so low to reach their level and argue all day long about games.

  • Anime10121

This looks FAR better than Duscae did :O

I’m actually getting hype again… Which is honestly somethin I haven’t felt for this game since i played Duscae! Still tho, I think I’ll hold judgment til the March event, squares always known how to make pretty trailers… But legitimately was a FAR better video than anything we’ve seen since they started these ATRs. I can actually see a lot of progress made in comparison to the original alpha demo (or prealpha…whatever the hell it was :V)

    • Zenos71

I agree. A lot of people judged the game negatively because of the demo when i was a very VERY early build of the game. Glad to see that they’re improving the so much.

      • Anime10121

Yeah and not gonna lie, Im one of those people. As hype as I was for the game originally, the demo and mostly everything that came after completely underwhelmed me… even though I know how early it was. But bad first impressions are very hard to erase!

But this…this has helped to alleviate many of my concerns!

  • Frank Doomrider Johansen

    HELLYEAH!!!! Can’t wait!!! WHOHOOO!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!
Going to be like a dream to finally have this game!

    • Zackasaur

      *high-five*

It really is a dream come true!

      • Frank Doomrider Johansen

        *high-five**high-five**high-five**high-five**high-five**high-five*

  • MetalRizeAwesomeOnmipenismon

    Aranea Highwind…

I bet NONE of y’all remember her from the Versus Xiii trailer…

    She’s waifu

    And this game looks beautiful

    • Phelan

Erm… why would nobody remember her when she was one of the most hyped person in V-XIII trailers? Back than people also complained about how Lighting~like she is… though yeah… she was hyped.

      • MetalRizeAwesomeOnmipenismon

Cause people were too busy complaining about the lack of Stella they couldn’t see anything else :E

        • Phelan

          Erm… not really.

I’m one of those guys who didn’t like fusion of Stella/Luna… and as you see I also remembered our Lighting… erm… I mean dragoon lady.

          • MetalRizeAwesomeOnmipenismon

            It was a joke…. :(

            • Phelan

Ahh my bad my bad! Sorry.

    • shodai kitetsu

basically i remember that scene when i first saw her in that video

  • Anontastic

    “Release Date Announcement Event”

At this point, the game could be an undisputed 11/10, and still not live up to the SqEnix hype.

    • Phelan

      Well… it’s hard to disagree.

It might be hard to please even those who like change of gameplay. With those events announcing events announcing other events announcing event announcing release date. It might be hard to live up with expectations.

      • Christopher Simmons

Honestly I think people really just need to wait till the game comes out I’m sure tabata is keeping most of the cool shit on the low till we can see it in the game I can’t wait to play this it looks amazing oh and I hope we can lvl up magic spells!!

        • highsky00

Agree. People need to wait till the game comes out or at least March .
In the ATR , Tabata said he was preparing for the March event with many hidden contents for FFXV which weren’t shown in the footage .And that will be the truest form of Final Fantasy XV .

  • Frank Doomrider Johansen

This game is gonna be AMAZING!!!!!!!!! The combat looks GREAT! with the diversity of stealth killings, turrets and party member commands just YEAH!! And then we have summonings, magic and weapon change DROOL!!!!! GIMME!!! This looks massively EPIC!!!

  • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

The free tech demo of kid Noctis, is that dated? Will it be out before March or just before the full game?

    • CRIMSON-XIII

itll be announced in march when its coming, id say its available free day of the event.

  • HirotheBEAST

The hype is real BOYSSS!!! Damn this game looks so good.

  • Paradox

definitely top 5 most anticipated games for me this year

  • DarthBrian

Well, this is looking a lot better than it has before. Combat at least looks a lot more fun now.

  • Alos88

Anyone else thinking Izunia is going to end up being the Kefka of this world? And I can see why they change Noctis’ father’s design. Aldercapt bares a resemblance to it (even if I think his new design is far, far too old to have a son of Noctis’ age.)

    • Yuntu

I think that guy that looks like he is from Assasins Creed is the most supicious one.

  • zuuum

I’m not up to date on FFXV so I’m just gonna ask, is this the first time we see Ardyn Izunia? I swear I saw him somewhere before.

    • highsky00

His first appearance was in E3 2013 trailer .The guy said :”This is turning into quite the ordeal” .

      • zuuum

Thanks! Totally the same guy, jep! Kinda looks older now though, but maybe that’s just me.

  • UMR-10

The game looks amazing indeed but i wonder if it will meet people expectations.

The game isn’t Versus XIII anymore.

    • greenreaper

A lot of effort went into it, and players got involved in its development to a certain degree through the demo with their feedback. It’s making me believe we’ll get something tasty, so I’ll give the game the benefit of the doubt for now.

      • UMR-10

Yeah, i still think it will be a great game but it won’t be the same thing that people were originally expecting.

        • FlareKnight

Should be fine. It’s been so many years I don’t even remember what I was originally expecting. Outside a game to come out a lot sooner :P.

  • greenreaper

Anything before Fall would be a pleasant surprise.

    • Yuntu

I think it will be before Fall, no reason to do an event in March when you wanna release in Fall and could bring hype through E3. But that’s just me thinking about it.

  • Novus Krystallis

It may not be character switching, but I love the aspect of giving commands and how the camera shifts focus to that character. That’s enough for me, not to mention very much reminiscent of previous FF (Not including 11 or 14).

  • Bumbayker

Is SE planning a worldwide release date or near-simultaneous release for FFXV?

    • Joe murphy

Supposed to be worldwide release, same day for everyone.

    • Yuntu

Tabata said the plans for a worldwide release are still there at the Taipai Game Show.

  • ManagedCorn

    a woman!?

    • ayanami-chan

and you better believe Nomura is gonna show dem tities!…fucking Christ….

      • youngsexynerd

I know right, someone needs to button Gladiolus’s shirt up. Tired of looking at dem man titties….

        • CRiSTALYZERx

          #Gladiolust

      • ManagedCorn

this was supposed to be bro fantasy, no need for women.

        • ayanami-chan

          Corn gets it

    • Hayate Omega ZX (Sora Sen)

      Most likely a dude :p

  • Joe murphy

As from the video hopefully we can warp around outside of combat. But could just be that it was in a combat setting. I really want to warp around cities lol.

    • Sammy Sora

i think they said you can warp in cities. i can’t remember where lol

  • youngsexynerd

I dont know if I like the way they are incorporating magic…. since when did Square Enix not understand that the magic system of FF8 is universally HATED! They wanted to make magic a inventory/Draw thing anyway? AND it replaces a weapon instead of having its on unique button function and slots? 0_0… Really not digging a lot of the changes Tabata has made to the overall battle system….. Man I wish they would have just left it the way Nomura had it initially with the Menu Screen and shortcut commands like Kingdom Hearts

    • vishmarx

1)this magic is separate from the one that works normally and consumes mp.
2)magic is equipped in weapon slots, not as weapon itself.

but go on,im sure nomura does everything perfectly in a game that doesnt exist, until he releases ff7, then everybody would be bitching about him ruining ff.

      • youngsexynerd

“Elemental magic is described as an item of sorts, but not the kind you can purchase. Elements are present in various locations around the world, and are a type of energy you can gather. The energy you gather can be used to create magic and stored as an important part of your inventory. You can then can equip that item in place of a weapon to use in battle.”
Reading comprehension can do wonders huh??

        • vishmarx

my bad, i only read this and got confused
          http://femto-jiokichi.tumblr.com/post/138423799813/tpgs-jp2en-interview-with-tabatis-done-by-game

Q: About the magic system. Is there any growing system for magics? Do we set a magic on a weapon, or on a character?
T: The information on the growing system for magics will be introduced in March for the media, but yes, there is such a system. It’s not like magics can grow. There are magics that are superior than normal ones. How to use magics is introduced in the ATR. You don’t set those on a weapon. You set a magic on a weapon slot.

and im still unsure how it all works tbh. but yeah having to swap it out every time would be annoying

but still , the first point remains, theres still a second type of magic if you hate drawing so much

          • youngsexynerd

To be honest I like the idea of setting magic to weapons a lot better like you said earlier instead of having to replace a weapon entirley. I wish they would have went that route because judging by the footage you can only have 4 weapon slots. hmmmm idk,…. I hope it all works out. Everything else looks great though

            • vishmarx

they did say the controls will change slightly as the game goes on, not sure where i read it
maybe we get to switch decks on the fly?that would pretty much resolve it

      • Dub-Sempar Pa

How is nmpura relevant. Oh wait he’s nit to this. Stop mainf this a fanboybfught.

        • vishmarx

          Becauasuid gbrej rbqekqejhb adfnihjadn dnbbuiwew.
also, op was the one mentioning nomura, and we sorted it out.

          • Dub-Sempar Pa

Not good at English man,and have hand problems

    • Syn

Sounts more like the materia system from VII than the draw system from VIII, read it carefully, the magic itself grows and you find more powerful spells later, nothing about number of uses being attached to how much magic you find in the field.

      • youngsexynerd

Idk, the way they say you have to draw it and use it as a item makes it sound like a limited resource much like FF8. Im not digging this design decision at all..

        • MogCakes

On the other hand, if they made it unlimited no one would even bother with melee, they’d just hurl fire or blizzard or thunder until everything is dead. They needed a way to limit magic use.

    • Yuntu

People didn’t really hate the drawing system, people hated that it was required to make your characters stronger. This seems more like a calculated limitation to stop abuse from certain magic.

      • FlareKnight

Yes they did. People hated the draw system. Having to fight the same enemies for hours in order to draw enough magic out of them for it to be of use. The stat connection only made it more hated.

        • Yuntu

But that’s not how this is going to work. Honestly if the drawing system would’ve been just for the usage of magic and actual gear would’ve determined all stats it would’ve worked out way better.

        • MogCakes

There are environmental draw points instead of having to harvest magic out of enemies. The fixed nature of this means you will always know where to restock magic should you want to get more.

        • http://www.anime-evo.net/ setsuken

Certain people might have. I dunno, I liked the FFVIII draw system and how it basically allowed you to break a traditional RPG leveling system.

The trick to getting good magic wasn’t just using monsters to draw from, but there was also the possibility of using draw points littered all over the world map. The Islands of closest to heaven and hell were great places to draw magic.

I think making a generalization of whether people hated or loved a particular mechanic is problematic.

Maybe you disliked it personally, I for one HATED FFVII’s materia system, but I wouldn’t say people in general did.

Some people disliked the fact that FFIX required you to keep weaker weapons equipped until you learned that particular weapon’s skill, but hey, it varied from person to person.

    • Mustardrice

Tabata already said a few months ago that XVs magic system is nothing at all like FF8s magic draw system.

    • http://www.anime-evo.net/ setsuken

That’s a bit of a hasty generalization there. There are a lot of Fans of FFVIII, the game and the battle system.

In fact, one of the reasons I’m personally digging FFXV is that it reminds me of FFVIII, in that its got that same adult and that weird fusion of fantasy with the modern day.

Also if Nomura had had his way, the game probably would’ve never come out. lets not forget that Nomura was working on this game for 8 years before Tabata took it over and now its actually coming out.

Plus having played Crisis Core and the FFXV demo, I’d say there’s a good chance that FFXV will have a pretty fun battle system to it.

  • youngsexynerd

Elemental magic concerns aside, this game looks like a freakign masterpiece! Man, that stealth video looks awesome lol. 1 hit kills if you sneak your enemy. Taking over bases. This is Metal Gear Fantasy and I like it!! Looks like this game might actually have a lot of side content :)

  • one.life

I’ve gotten a little more optimistic about this game. It’s finally starting to look like they’ll be able to deliver the promise of the type of gameplay we saw in the 2013 E3 trailer. Fast and fun–like a gritty, realistic Kingdom
Hearts, which is what I always looking forward to the most since Versus XIII. Particularly excited about how the aerial combat has improved.

  • Greg

    Neat.

  • McVc

Everything looked great, but I’m not looking forward to those lame “KindaFunny” hosts..

    why the fuck

    • MrFinalgamer

Greg explained it on gaf. The reasoning is: Tim LOVES Final fantasy, and Greg is kind of apathetic towards it, and Square wants to show that XV can attract both old fans, and new alike.

      • Zackasaur

        That’s actually a really solid reasoning… I like that.

        • ayanami-chan

You would’ve liked what ever they had come up with admit it

          • Zackasaur

Nope, that’s an outrageously imbecilic thing to say.

You would have complained no matter who said anything even remotely supportive.

            • ayanami-chan

Woah think again chico that was an off the cuff slite not a personal attack, dont flip the table to change the issue!

              • Zackasaur

It was a personal attack. Your attempt to use diminutive synonyms and a false “change the issue” flag are both disingenuous and, ironically, your own attempt to change the issue.

I would apologise if I treated someone so poorly after they had said and done nothing to me.

If you wanted to disagree with my point instead of regurgitate vitriol toward my character, you could have done so and may still do so, after an apology.

I don’t take character assassination lightly. Nobody should. If you’re going through some problems that make you lash out at people like this, I will understand and simply implore you to be better.

                • ayanami-chan

Thaaaaaaaaaat wasn’t vitriol, not even in the slightest, that’s a baffling conclusion, especially when I’ve displayed much more crass and vulgar behavior on this site. My original comment, I’d like to give you the opportunity to explain how you think that was “a personal attack” or of “vitriol”. We are on two separate pages here.

                  • Zackasaur

Do you not understand the concept of ad hominem?

                    • ayanami-chan

Yes… and that’s not relevant to the issue because that is a general descriptor of an argumentative situation, where as you explicitly stated that I gave a personal attack. I doubt you actually know that concept because it doesn’t entail the intensity of an arguments direction, just that there is a one away from some issue towards some person, though that COULD mean what you want, but then you should have used a more apt term rather than a general one. Yes I make a comment about you instead of the coming out an saying what I really wanted to say because I was nice. But I’ll say it now: I think you’re a sheep. And that statement comes with all the implications and undertones you could ask for.

Maybe to you it seemed an attack, but all I can say is that it was not, it was just “gematsu fun”, but perhaps you have some hidden insecurity that I tripped with my benign comment. Any sullen feeling you’ve derived from this convo have been your own fault not mine. I also want to note that I’ve never before had an issue with you as a person, so don’t treat me like a schoolyard bully.

                    • Zackasaur

No, you clearly either don’t understand what an ad hominem is or want to lie about it. I commented on an issue. Instead of responding on the issue one way or another, you decided to make an argument about the person ~making~ the statement, rather than the statement itself. That is ad hominem. You could put this example in a textbook. And, certainly, I’m happy to lecture on logical fallacies all day. I have taught logic courses in the university system plenty of times and always found it to be one of the most enjoyable lecture topics.

“Gematsu fun” is an invalid excuse for your ad hominem. You personal attack was clearly only fun to you. Don’t try to make Gematsu own it.

I’m not a sheep; I’m as opposite as is humanly possible. Stop deflecting your problems on others. You’re being an idiot and an asshole. This is the kind of conversation you wanted, right? The one where we make personal attacks about how we feel about each other because ~you~ are too uneducated to have a real discussion about a topic and too uninformed to respond with anything more than petty spite.

All I would have liked is an elevated discussion. You wanted to start a personal fight. You STILL can’t deal with the actual topic at hand and so have to merely increase the intensity of your ad hominem. And I won’t take that bullshit from anyone.

You’re being a jerk. Right now, you are being nothing more than a childish schoolyard bully and are giving me a lot of reasons to have an issue with you as a person. I’m still open to accepting an apology and having the rational discussion I wanted in the first place, though. I don’t like bad blood.

                    • ayanami-chan

Uh…. alright, just to be clear we’re just on this convo right? Ok Ad Hominem doesn’t specify how someone misdirects and argument, just that it does towards a person not an issue, which I totally did! I never refuted that or said I didn’t. Now who is turning to vitriol! “scum” “uneducated” both are unwarranted for what we’ve discussed. It’s even more absurd because I’ve actually deserved those titles before but not here! I don’t shy from the insults themselves rather than the time and place in which they are used! I never spited you or cast vitriol in this chain of comments! Now I fully accept those are perceptions so, go ahead and tell me the exact diction you perceived to be spiteful and vitriolic because I’m not seeing it. “Uninformed” about what? Are you not a sheep? Have I really been vitriolic? Maybe, I’ve been wrong before but udnerstand in the context of the argument, you haven’t shown me otherwise. You’re guilty of ad hominem as much as I am! If you’re decrying me for that (of which I readily accepted) then you are a blatant hypocrite. Not once have you attempted to refute my original statement, that you’d follow along Shepard Square Enix. Maybe you wouldn’t! How would I know, you never tried to argue otherwise except for a hand wavy “I’m not a sheep” claim. My comment wasn’t intended to be an analysis of you, because I was unaware of your personal insecurity. If I had known, I wouldn’t have said anything, I’ve no business taking you down. To come at me with such arrogance while not even telling me how I’m wrong, and committing to the same sin that you’ve rebuked me for is “textbook” hypocrisy. Now maybe I’m totally wrong and you’re not a sheep, well then: argue your case. Now I didn’t support my claim, because it was a Goddamn joke, but if you want me to make light on why I made it then the balls in your court. I admit the situation is as much of my fault as it is yours (though those upon high will certainly cast judgement on me bc I’m Satan incarnate apparently)

                    • Zackasaur

I’m not guilty of ad hominem. Not one iota. You did nothing but post insults, so I responded in kind and then used that as an ~example~ of the kind of conversation you created. Responding to one insult with another is not an ad hominem, because you ~already~ ditched the topic in favour of personal attack. It’s no longer an argument–it’s just a fight.

Look, I will make one more attempt to teach you how ad hominem works and relate it to the original two posts.
                      1. I made a post about the reasoning making sense.
                      2. You voluntarily responded with a personal insult, going after my character with sheepish implications.

Now, here is a simple definition of ad hominem, courtesy of a mass usage dictionary: “(of an argument or reaction) directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining.”

Now, I made a comment in step 1. In step 2, you could have agreed or disagreed and made your case. Instead of talking about the issue (meaning the decision to have these two hosts), your reaction/argument was instead to comment about ME. That fact alone makes it ad hominem. The fact that your post about me was also insulting just makes it a very ~typical~ ad hominem.

The ONLY post in this entire chain which addresses the topic is my initial post. Your very first and unrequested reply to that was ad hominem, and everything since then has been my attempt to teach you why that is wrong. And, yes, I am angry with you. I am unafraid to show that, because I think it would be dishonest not to.

I shouldn’t have to argue my case against your ad hominem. That’s not my job. I’ve spent years arguing against terrible executive management at Square Enix, if you must know. I’m easily the least sheepish person you could ever meet in your life. You would know that if you had any decency and got to know me, instead of jumping to absurdly unwarranted conclusions and using them as the basis for ad hominem. It’s not my job to sit here and tell you why your personal attack is unwarranted. I’m going above and beyond to do so. It was YOUR job to either agree or disagree with my statement and peacefully explain why, or at least just not comment at all. You chose the only wrong option.

Your additional personal attack about “insecurity” suggests to me another deflection, which does make me worry very much about your mental place right now… My responses to you all come out of a rock-solid security and confidence that I am correct. The initial ad hominem on your part suggests some insecurity. But I’m not going to try to prey on that, because I empathise with people who have learned to be insecure.

EDIT: I want to be clear that this is my last post in this discussion if we’ve made no progress with your next response. I don’t like conversations that go nowhere and could potentially make anyone else feel uncomfortable. I want to have fun, informed discussions about the game. That’s what my initial comment was, and I deserved none of this silliness. But neither do others on Gematsu.

                    • 36Chambers

Man you’re insecure. Just let this pointless debate go.

                    • Zackasaur

It has utterly nothing to do with insecurity, factually speaking. I assure you of that. c:

But I agree that this is looking increasingly pointless, so I will take your advice and indeed stop responding if he doesn’t want to post something on-topic. This has gotten us nowhere, and I apologise for the potentially wasted space.

                    • ayanami-chan

“Worrying” about my mental health does not give you superior footing Zack, that’s a middle school tactic, and I know you’re at least better than that. You know you may have indirectly proven me wrong; throughout your petulance and “vitriol” it made it clear that I apparently did make a personal attack, and as a display of my own ignorrance I didn’t even percieve it to be that way. I guess that takes me down a peg because I pride myself on being able to control a conversation, and here I through a knife and didn’t even know it. I am sorry. I didn’t mean my first statement to be offensive, but it was. You acted very immaturely now, but in that you showed me I was wrong. I guess you aren’t a sheep, maybe I attacked you unconsciously because I was jealous of your bliss and how you’re able to ignore that failings of a company and maintain hype for a game, of which I’m not able to do. I’ve seen to many examples of failure that I have to tear down a game who doesn’t have the most solid foundation.Maybe you have more strength to believe in the unlikely, maybe I’m taking the easy route. I am aware of my level of security and insecurity, but I wonder if you’ll be able to derive what that is from this convo, I’d genuinely like to know what you think. As for your own security, it was uncalled for to attack someone there, I am sorry, all I had where your words to go on which to seemed insecure due to the absurd emotional reaction as a result of a benign comment, and mayhaps the series of upvotes I got made it worse (that’s a far reach I know). That doesn’t excuse me however.

                    • Zackasaur

Sorry about the slow response–I got an important phone call.

Okay, now I feel a bit better. I accept the apology and would like to extend my own.

I know that my reaction was very strong (you could argue too strong, and that’s a fair normative position to take). I intended it that way because I really wanted to drive in what I felt when you said what you said. I didn’t want to hide my feelings in favour of the “guise of maturity” people often like to display, and I didn’t want my reaction to be too small for you to see what I felt. I’ve valued some of our past conversations and would much rather be your friend than something else. I appreciate your apologies and the heart-to-heart that comes with them, and I want to make that fully mutual.

Since you asked, my honest impression was that you were being insecure. I really appreciate your attempt to explain that through past disappointments and a difficulty comprehending my own bliss in this situation. I think that it took maturity and a rise in security for you to say all of that.

I’m comfortable with my own security. If anything, you could accuse me of over-security. xD But what I ~am~ is defensive, because I take things pretty seriously. That’s more an ideology than anything else. My perspective on the world is very personal, and I believe in the importance of things. Maybe that explains how I can be so very defensive when I feel insulted, yet simultaneously highly confident.

I think we’ve both been burned with games and companies in the past, to be sure. What I think is important is not to let the past make you disgruntled to the point where you aren’t open to positive change. Looking at everything that has happened to SE and to FFXV since the bad times we all shared, I think it’s more than perfectly reasonable to be happy and congratulatory about that. Just as a person who takes anything bad and spins it is a problem, a person who takes good things and spins them negatively is equally a problem. We have to be able to observe change and differences and prepared to offer both negative and positive reinforcement for what we see. I think there is a lot of reason for there to be positivity about the current direction of these things.

I think that sometimes we get hurt and can become insecure as a result. When the old SE broke a security that you might have had with them, you may have never let that security rebuild itself even as SE rebult themselves. And that’s not just an SE thing–it applies to all game companies and things beyond them in your life.

See, this is more like the discussion I wanted to have in the first place. c: I’m sorry if my response felt like an overreaction, but I do want you to understand that I will take things like that quite personally. My own opinion is that it is strength and not weakness that lets us really take things to heart, rather than build a shell.

And I’m happy to keep having this conversation, too! I’d love to further discuss the game and its direction with you.

                      Friends?

It looks like they changed it or something. You can get it on the PR page, but I’ll update my post with an upload on mega as well.

    • PhoenixAutomatic

It’s easier to download from their press site however the mega link you posted requires a decryption key to access and download the file so you might want to post that as well with the link.

Why can’t they just announce the release date why do they need a whole event for it

    • Silent Nyan

Because FF15 will make a huge impact on the gaming industry. It will be written on Gaming History books, and researchers from the future will discuss this on they’re holographic meetings

Yeah it’s time to stop the autofellatio SE were like 8 years past that

    • Yuntu

Because SE knows this release date is important, they can’t just say it. Some people waited 10 years for this game, they really don’t want a simple: “Oh and yeah the game is coming in three months.”

    • nekolife

Because if they told us Christmas release now we’d stop paying attention for 10 months.

    • Zackasaur

If you watch the ATR, you will find that they cited a smart new company policy that they don’t issue a release date until exiting the beta stage of development.

They’re letting us know the date of their planned announcement in advance so that we stop asking a pointless question and can focus on more important things, insteas.

      I hope that helps!

    • vishmarx

personally id rather have this than a persona 5 rollercoaster .
at least they seem utterly confident in the release.
by march , they know for a fact that theyd have the final build to show off and a guaranteed date.
and seeing how this gen has gone with its delays and buggy launches , id say that being 100% of your launch is a better thing.
besides announcing a release a year before is much worse than announcing a release date 4 months before the actual release.especially considering how theyre making the game in a layered fashion instead of a linear one.

    • Antoby

Probably because the release date will be later rather than sooner

  • NotCarolKaye

They really need to add her to the upcoming Dissidia game.

    • Yuntu

I bet they will add XV characters for the console release or as DLC.

    • Budgiecat

yeah sure add her but not Noctis makes sense lmao

      • NotCarolKaye

Yup, that’s what I was saying all right. Add her but not Noctis. Sure. Because it’s not like they could add both or anything.

        • Yuntu

You know the cat, don’t give it anything to eat.

    • Zackasaur

I will take every FFXV character in Dissidia that I can get!

      Noctis comes first, of course.

But Aranea would be amazing. I love dragoons.

      • NotCarolKaye

I’d say as far as lineup additions go, Noctis is a lock(tis). They’re probably just holding him back for the same reason that they dropped Lightning from the first PSP Dissidia. So his debut appearance is in his main game. I’d bet that once FFXV is out, he’ll get added.

        • Zackasaur

I am thinking (and hoping) the very same!

    • Antoby

I want more FF 6 characters in Dissidia personally.

That’s what I was thinking, I can’t imagine they would do that.

        • vishmarx

exactly, considering the initial design had you switch b/w 5 weapons, i doubt theyd restrict you to 2 or 3 now.especially because weapons also come attached with your active and passive abilities
my guess is we’ll have decks that we can switch on the fly.
they really need to show off a new good tutorial now though, ive no idea how counters will work any longer.
they couldnt have possibly made a counter(the qte special attack one and not the the regular one) for each and every weapon type with each and every monster..
theres also the thing about sub weapons, it seems they come with their own special attacks/co op attacks…(prompto climbing noct’s shield)
there are just so many components of combat we dont even know about

          • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I hope roll is just tapping square or whatever now.

It looks nothing like Duscae now, which is good.

      • Yuntu

Nah he’s right, I just watched the vid again Fire is clearly in a weapon-slot, but as you said down there didn’t Tabata mention multiple decks of weapons you can adjust? If so that could be an easy solution.

EDIT: Looking further, there is a short cut in the vid which let’s me suspect it the switching wasn’t ready to be shown yet.

        • vishmarx

yeah, i figure theyll reveal it later..

    • highsky00

It’s just like putting materias into a weapon’s slots in FF7

      • LunarHaven

Yeah, one of my fav systems they ever did, and a great place to take inspiration.

      • Dub-Sempar Pa

So of I have magic ilk still have 4 weapons. Cause right now they described it as a grenade like weapn and made it sound like it replaces one

        • highsky00

Well .When you use magic in FF7 ,you will lose a turn .But in an action game like FFXV ,i’m sure they will make us be able to switch back to the weapon right after using magic .Two things in one slot .

          • Dub-Sempar Pa

Idk I dont think there can be 2 in slot

            • highsky00

We will eventually be able to change back immediately anyway .When Noctis casted Fire in the footage ,the Fire icon replaced the weapon icon .So because of that ,i think there are 2 in 1 slot ,one is the weapon(main) and one is magic(sub) .Don’t worry .

  • 36Chambers

Yeah, I’m back on that hype train. Never has a game played so much with my emotions and it’s not even out yet haha.

    • Zackasaur

An emotional roller coaster, to be sure. xD

This game and its fans have gone through hell… But I think it’s all going to be more than worth it.

      • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

        ANd its teams.

        • Zackasaur

Totally true! I meant that to be inferred when I said “this game,” but you’re totally right to make that distinction explicit.

The devs were always victims to the poor executive management and did a lot of hard work to keep the project alive (and amazing).

          • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I wish we could get both versions.

This and Versus, both look like awesome and different beast.

            • vishmarx

to be quite honest, yesterday’s trailer didnt look too far from the 2011 concept, infact the combat, id argue, looked better in most places now that you look back.

              • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I love how both look, but story and tone are pretty different and both sound super interesting to me!

                • vishmarx

this game’s story appears to be alot more darker to me tbh.sure vs was dark but it looked more like an anime kinda dark, you know it had a slightly cartoony feel to it, even in its animations and such, they were more akin to kh . this seems a bit more grounded and sadder…even the magic here is realistic in a fantasy kind of way
and i absolutely love the realistic take on the summons,i cant flippin wait to see the all of them…
yesterday someone suggested to me that what if summoning leviathan led to a temporary flood of its own in an open area..how epic would that be..most of the smaller beings on the ground get insta ko’d, leviathan takes on the big ones and mini water leviathans help you in close quarter combat if youre still on your feet having used it strategicially.

                  • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

                    That would be sweet!

As for Versus, I think it had a larger sense of tragedy and helplessness to it, while seeming like the people are just trying to live. It seemed pretty sweet, this one seems more dramatic and a bit more over the top, which isnt a problem at all.

                    …Want temp flooding now..

                    • vishmarx

the flooding thing isnt completely impossible either considering how over the top theyre being with the summons and the game’s tech..
i mean i know the ramuh in the demo was only a taste and an early build, but everything about his summon animation hinted at him causing an actual thunderstorm in the game before he uses a finisher .
my guess is going with how elements react realistically to the world, each summon will have a duration of its own large scale elemental effects before it uses a finisher…
they probably didnt implement it in the demo because magic and weather werent ready at all.
but i can imagine this happening, summoning ramuh starts transitioning the weather to a storm, much slower than the demo, your attacks become powered with electricity and the thunder spell/ thunder based weapon abilities get a huge buff,
ramuh starts materializing , random bolts of lighting keep striking down on enemies , once fully done, he uses the finisher also leaving residual burns on monsters that survived his bolt.
using summons can also work to enhance your elemental magic affinity

                      dammit i dream too much

                    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

If I ever get a game company going I’ll pay you like 12$ for ideas XD

But seriously, your ideas for the summoning sound wonderful! And terrifying!

                    • D.3ND
                    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Man that scene still looks amazing.

                    • D.3ND

Make sure to take alot of screenshots.

    • Antoby

I just how the release date isn’t like December 2016 but I suspect as much.

      • Vashe

What if it’s december 2016 for JAPAN ONLY ?

  • Zackasaur

Does anyone have any good analysis articles or videos following this ATR and footage?

I will be searching for some and can link anything good that I find, as well. But if you saw anything good, please share!

    • Antoby

There really hasn’t been much new stuff shown. Kotaku has a decent breakdown.

  • Antoby

    “Final Fantasy XV producer Hajime
Tabata promises they’re not going to reveal a bunch of information only
then say that the game is coming out in 2017. A 2016 release date will
    be announced.”

Er so is the game coming out in 2016 or 2017? That sentence was confusing.

    • –ZERO–

      It be a joke

    • Silent Nyan

      2016

    • Zackasaur

2016 is what he means there. He’s saying that he wouldn’t release all of this info and then delay to 2017… Which sort of reminds me of how Persona 5 was handled, come to think of it. lol

It’s clear that they could have make that statement better, because you’re probably the fourth person I’ve seen who asked what that meant.

  • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Can I get some pictures in HD for my laptop wallpaper?

  • Tracy

Looking good so far!..can’t wait to play this game!

  • pixxxelz

My god this looks amazing! I was disappointed after playing episode duscae (I even cancelled my preorder) but after seeing this I’m back in the hype train, take all my money squeenix!

    • Zackasaur

I’m still uncertain about how Episode Duscae worked as a PR move, overall.

But I’m really glad they did such an early alpha demo for the public, because I think it gave them a lot of time to really seriously consider feedback.

      • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Got a better controls scheme out of it possibly, better combat…Bad PR though.

      • vishmarx

while i do believe it hurt their image more than healed,
it was overall an excellent move to improve the game based on its feedback.
yesterday was probably the biggest conversion i saw among the people who werent hyped or had lost faith in the game…
the reaction from most people that dont hate SE for the heck of it was extremely positive compared to the previous ATR’s
offcourse trolls will always remain, but they never cared for the game to be good to begin with, it was always about it not coming to a platform they like or a mainline FF switching to real time combat for good….

        • Zackasaur

Yeah, I agree with you there. Well said!

          • vishmarx

on a side note, i mustve seen the trailer a 100 times already lol.
i just cant get over the damn soundtrack, its soo good.im gonna workout to it and feel like zeus lol…
i seriously dont get the whiners, the other day someone called this ost shit because everything just sounds epic and cheesy and that xenoblade x does it way better because everything doesnt sound like a final boss.
then theres the uematsu brigade, no one other than him can compose , they say.
which is funny, because ive found this ost so far , far more listenable, if thats a thing , that the other ff’s.

            • Zackasaur

I’ve had it on loop and actually did my workout to FFXV music today! xD

You’re totally right, but we’ll never be able to talk sense into all of the trolls, fanboys, and malcontents out there.

The rest of us are going to have our minds blown and be far happier for it. c:

      • a.mubher

Most reviews were positive though. Almost every single one mention the great potential that Episode Duscae has. Everyone also loved the music. In the result of the survey the music came on top, The characters also got high scores for both design and likability ( even though a lot of haters hate on that particular point )

It is true, it was limited, And the balance was off, but that is understandable. It is almost impossible make a good demo for a rpg because of its nature, A demo would be like taking things out of context. People should have been aware of that,

        • Zackasaur

Oh, I know they were. If FFXV released in its Episode Duscae state, the vast, vast majority of people would love it… Which says a lot!

And while you’re totally right about the fact that people should have been aware of context, many people weren’t really that smart… And those same people were very loud and started smearing the game online for framerate, lack of aerial combos, etc. Which of course was really stupid, since we already knew how early in development Episode Duscae was…

But that’s the PR problem. They were able to bring a lot of confidence by showing people how remarkably far along they were in development… I mean, it was playable! But they also offered megaphones to some of the worst voices on the internet.

That’s what makes it hard to judge the net PR effect. The net gameplay development effect of the demo was obviously wonderful, and that’s the more important thing, anyway. But as for the PR side of things, there is no substantial data to suggest how it affected the overall game market’s confidence. I would actually argue that it was a net positive for a few reasons, those surveys included. Still, we don’t have the data to really judge ~how~ positive. *shrug*

Maybe the important thing here is that Episode Duscae matters less and less as the game gets closer to release. I mean, look at the huge evolution of gameplay seen in that August/September footage we just got.

          • a.mubher

Totally agree. Duscae will be forgotten once the game main exposure phase begin. One epic trailer at E3 or even March event is enough to do that if it was widespread (like TGS trailer which got more than 4M views on Youtube). The worst is behind us anyways. I just want to get my hand on the game :D

            • Zackasaur

Yep! I’m going to be very careful with Episode Duscae on my hard drives, because I think it will be an interesting piece of history. c:

Really, the mainstream marketing won’t even begin until the 30th of March.

              • Yuntu

And let’s hope it won’t last long so we don’t need a E3 2016 trailer for it, or only the launch trailer at E3. But looking at the progress they made I’m positive this game is coming way sooner then many people expect.

      • Zenos71

Very true. Some people lost their faith in the game because they still think the demo was a reflection the the real thing.

    • D.3ND

Madness, you’ve most likely missed out on special bonus from that preorder.

  • Budz

announcement for an announcement, square enix should copyright it.
    #unsubfinebrothers lol

  • Silent Nyan

    Notice me Gladio senpai *-*

  • LunarHaven

Can’t deny that this new footage looks fantastic!! And when Noctis used the Katana sword to slash from enemy to enemy I had a DAMN moment.

    • Zackasaur

      I demand all the .gifs…

Can you imagine how many cool gameplay moments like that must be in store for the full game? I love that we’re in an age in games where we can pull off the kinds of moves in real-time that we used to only have in our imagination.

      • LunarHaven

This game takes it to a new level that’s for sure, like when the croc beast grabbed Noctis’ foot and dragged him, I don’t think any game has gone into that kind of crazy dynamic before. Can’t wait to explore all the different situations, the HUD looks fantastic as well, this new footage has most def gotten me on the positive side of the game.

        • Zackasaur

          Inorite?

The interactions between the main character, weapons, enemies, allies, weather, lighting, environment, magic, and more is all just so complex… There is seriously nothing like this in the industry right now. And that’s not something you get to say often, especially on this scale.

I really hope that stuff like the crocodile inspires game developers around the world. This is the kind of “next gen” I’ve been craving.

          • Silent Nyan

This is truly taking games to the next level.

            • Zackasaur

That gets at the heart of it! c:

  • LunarHaven

Also, when he used the shield and the party member jumped on top of the shield, that is some amazing detail and diversity.

    • Silent Nyan

I also loved thay they actually dodge each others attacks like Prompto ducks when Gladio swings his sword.

      • LunarHaven

Haha yeah I wonder how the game can react that fast to some random stuff you decide to do, their programmers are sick.

        • Silent Nyan

Having 6 monitors for programming is OP xD

          • Zackasaur

I prefer to think of them as magic stations.

            • Silent Nyan

That’s what my boyfriend tells me when I ask him how does he do neat stuff with programming…. “magic’

  • https://twitter.com/KinguArcher King Archer

Somehow the comment section on this site always prove to be far more entertaining than the trailer itself. Jokes aside, trailer looks great. I was one of those people who lost hype after the demo but from what I’ve seen in the trailer combat looks a whole lot funner. 2016 is shaping up to be a great year for video games. Going to be broke as hell.

  • Vashe

I hope this is PS4 footage and not some titan X sli computer. I hope the ps4 will handle that with a stable framerate

    • Taiga Aisaka

I sincerely doubt it’s PS4 footage. It’s hard to believe it’s not a high end PC footage.

      • vishmarx

what exactly seems so high end pc like about it?
have you seem ED is person? new footage doesnt look like something thats an unachieveable evolution of that.

      • Yuntu

You would be surprised what high end PCs can show, this would look bad if it would be on an extremly powerful PC.

      • Ni ~Algidus~

this look “okay” compared to what high end PCs can do

    • Zackasaur

It’s PS4 spec footage. The game should look like this on PS4. They’re just optimising performance.

      • Vashe

I hope, most of the games I got on PS4 have some heavy framedrops sometimes (SAO, Omega Quintet and some in Bloodborne)

        • Zackasaur

It’s not all that different from Episode Duscae, which was clearly a very early alpha demo. I’m pretty confident in their ability to get it running well.

        • Klaudkil

Maybe i played different games but have not witnessed “heavy” framerate issues in these games.

With fallout 4 thou i have.

          • Vashe

Omega quintet just lags like hell in the office (even if it’s almost empty), SAO is like 10fps when you’re fighting bosses, Bloodborne got less problems but the framerate really drops when there are many ennemies on screen.

If you didn’t notice them then you should buy new glasses… It doesn’t make these games unplayable but it’s easily noticeable. That’s one thing I’m disappointed about PS4 (I know, it’s developper’s fault and not Sony’s)

            • J. W. Dennee

keep in mind that the PS4 handles FFXIV a realm reborn. It is the software to hardware transition that has issues in some games. That is why they are trying to perfect the frame rate interface so the system can handle it seamlessly. I think at best we can also hope playstation 4 (sony) decides to release an update to remove the frame rate limitation. They have a coded limiter in the game so the system will not be overwhelmed but from what I have read they have been working to code a change to the OS in the PS4. I think it is just a matter of time before we see a new update that removes the old frame rate limits currently on the system. Especially with the new 4k televisions which allow for much improved definition and allow images to almost leap of the screen when it is in 3D mode. My television does that right now but its not a 4k I have yet to purchase one. I would love to see what final fantasy looks like on there.

  • Taiga Aisaka

so what if the release date is Dec 31st, 2016? technically it’s still 2016.

    • Vashe

What if the date is only for Japan and the west must wait 2017 ? Did they mention an “International date” ?

      • Zackasaur

They have reaffirmed simultaneous global release plans.

So there won’t be magic to speed up your walking or maybe to teleport from place to place so you don’t have to walk long distances? Because based on the demo and the huge maps, exploration looks like it’s gonna be a pain.
