Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki announced for 3DS

A new River City game is in development for 3DS, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

Due out in Japan on May 28, Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki is set several years after the NES game Downtown Special: Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki da yo Zenin Shugo. Up to four characters can be in a party including Kunimasa (Kunio / Alex in River City Ransom), Tsurumatsu (Kaoru Sonokawa / Harry in River City Ransom), and two henchman.

Players can now wield a sword thanks to the game’s new “Katana Action” element. While powerful, it consumes energy each time you swing it. If you use up all your energy and your stamina is depleted, you won’t be able to restore it.

Outside of a Story Mode, the game also features a Mission Mode and Battle Royale mode, the latter of which allows up to four players to play together.
