…We’re not getting this one either, are we, SE?

    • OverlordZetta

Square-Enix is becoming a lot like Sega lately outside of main KH and FF titles.

    That’s interesting.

  • Invisbin

Now Kingdom Hearts. Your move Square.

    • TheMechaEngineer

Now that I will throw my money at, but Final Fantasy has the best overall music so I feel I already got their top tier soundtrack but hey I’m not saying I don’t want Kingdom Hearts!

      • Invisbin

        …..Hypocrite

        • TheMechaEngineer

          explain.

          • Invisbin

            I was referencing something :(

            • TheMechaEngineer

Are you be any chance calling me a Hypocrite? Because If you are i’ll have you know you are 100% correct.

              • Invisbin

                Reference hit then

                • TheMechaEngineer

Okay and I’m 99.9% sure that you’ve been hypocritical at one point in your life. Instead of being so vague point out my hypocrisy that way I am able to re-evaluate my thought process. If you thought you were being clever, here’s a reference for you…You aren’t.

                  • Invisbin

                    Well this escalated.

                    • TheMechaEngineer

It did, because you didn’t explain.

                    • Invisbin

I was hoping someone would catch the referencebefore I spoiled it, but no I was calling you a hypocrite.

                    • TheMechaEngineer

I don’t know if you know this, so let me enlighten you, everyone is a hypocrite, so whatever your saying isn’t new,but if it makes you sleep better sure.

                    • Invisbin

EvenMore awkward, meant to say not calling you a hypocrite…but it seems you agreed?

                    • TheMechaEngineer

yes because were all hypocrites, but I thought(could be?) you are calling me out for a specific thing I said recently.

                    • Invisbin

No…I was referring to a line in a game in which my avatar says Hypocrite…

                    • TheMechaEngineer

This has to be the most misinterpreted set of post on this site. I don’t know if you praise the sun but

  • yunsofprovo

    Oh my gosh.

  • David

Eh, I’ve only played IV, IX and a couple Monsters games, and I can’t recall a single song from any of them. I will probably pass on this one if it does get localized.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

For all that nice elevator music nobody remembers from DQ :)

  • TheMechaEngineer

I’ve never played a Dragon Quest game so count me out.

    • http://www.spaghetti.com/ Kaisenex

      you should start. lol

      • TheMechaEngineer

Don’t know where, Don’t even know just how good of a series it is. Of course I know its popular in Japan but I don’t know enough about the franchise to get invested. There are a lot of amazing games fighting for my time, new and old.

        • Kobracon

Honestly, you can start literally anywhere in the main series, just like FF, the numbers are meaningless. There are many many westerners who loved DQ8 on the PS2 by Level 5 and the remakes for the DS are good too.

If you have any appreciation for old skool JRPGs (hell this is one of the forefathers of the genre) and of the DQs will feel right at home.

I thought nothing of the series except for its DBZ art which I liked until I sat down and played through DQ5 on my DS and I became a staunch fan od DQ and see just why its so beloved in Japan.

          • TheMechaEngineer

I’ve played many old school RPGs. I play Final Fantasy 9 every summer. It being old is not a problem for me, its more the accessibility of the games. I personally don’t like playing my RPGs on a handheld, I mean if its the only way to play the game I do it but I’m not sure if most of the DQ games are even on home console for America. I do plan to play at least one game in the series because I owe it to myself as a lover of RPGs. Recommend me your favorite and i’ll do my best to track it down.

            • Kobracon

Well i mean WAY older than FF9. My fav was in fact DQ5 remake but since you don’t like RPGs on Handhelds then the only thing I can honestly recommend is DQ8 on the PS2 which is still pretty great. It will prolly even go better for you if you consider FF9 to be old skool, coz DQ8 sorta modernizes most of the DQ stuff without sacrificing what makes it distinctly DQ.

If you do get it, be prepared for a tough RPG. It won’t hold your hand, bosses will be hard and WILL eat you for breakfast if not properly equipped or trained enough. Grinding will occur, but I always say that DQ was the first RPG I played that I don’t mind grinding because there is a tangible worth to grinding (big stat boosts, useful skills, more money to get far superior equipment)

              • TheMechaEngineer

It almost feels like you are insulting me (I don’t feel like you mean to). FF9 is 14 years old and is 3 generations behind us now,and I know dozens of people who can’t play that game because to them its “out dated”. Obviously compared to other RPGs FF9 might as well be new. I only said FF9 because thats the game i constantly play every summer, doesn’t mean I don’t go back and play other old school RPGs, like Secret of Mana, or the original Final Fantasy.

Like I said I don’t like playing my RPGs on a handheld but if its the only way to accesses it I’ll play it, hell I’ve sinked 188 hours into Persona 4 golden. If your Favorite is DQ5 then i’ll do my research and finally stop staling. The harder the better.

                • Kobracon

If you felt that way, I am truly sorry. I really didn’t mean to insult anyone. While I agree FF9 is certainly old by now, DQ is much closer to the original FF and didn’t change its formula drastically like how FF keeps trying to do. (at least not until DQ8)

It wasn’t that I thought you don’t play older games, I was merely worried that you might have the wrong mindset going in thinking it might play like FF9. I just didn’t want to end up ruining someone getting into DQ.

Just be prepared for a different experience was all I really wanted to convey. While older RPGs tried to do things differently with its story or gameplay mechanics, DQ stands very firmly as a traditionalist when it comes to its RPG-ness.

Since you mentioned P4 Golden, I’ll say it’ll feel like jumping from Persona series straight into…say…SMT 2 or 3 (assuming you didn’t play those)

                  • TheMechaEngineer

No worries man, forgive me because its hard to know the tone in which you are writing. Words can be very misleading to someone’s tone, but I honestly felt you weren’t trying to insult me, I just felt like my RPG creds were being questioned lol. I love new experience and like I said, I will do my research on DQ5 and most likely get it. I appreciate your recommendation.

                    • Kobracon

Great! I sincerely hope you enjoy it!

            • Anime10121

Dragon Quest VIII for ps2! Play it now! It’s the only one I’ve ever loved :V

Wait was this the new game they mentioned, how disappointing.

  • new_tradition

Would be a lot more excited if it was Kingdom Hearts, but this is still nice. Theatrhythm as a game is pretty addictive, so even without being a DQ fan, I’m kind of interested. I actually have been curious about the music…

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

And after that “TheatreRhythm Chrono Trigger”

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

And after that “TheatreRhythm of Mana.”
    Based upon the Mana series.

Its gotta have music from Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Legend of Mana for starters.

  • Zackasaur

FF music is better than DQ music, but I will still buy this in a heartbeat if they localise it.

    They better localise it!

    • badmoogle

“FF music is better than DQ music”

I don’t know man, that DQVIII soundtrack is pretty hard to beat. ;)

      • Zackasaur

It’s a fantastic OST, but there are still FF games I put ahead of it.

I hope we get more Theatrhythm FF later on, because I think FFXV is going to be my favourite FF OST of all time. Shimomura is definitely my favourite composer.

Of course, they could give us Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts. @_@

        • badmoogle

DQVIII had one of my favourite video game ost’s ever. The only FF ost that i consider on the same level as DQVIII’s is FFX’s ost.

And a “Theatrhythm Square Enix” would have also been cool!Although yeah a Kingdom Hearts one is the one most likely to follow after DQ.

          • Zackasaur

            I sure hope it is!

    • Yuntu

I agree – but in terms of music its very depending on the person what could be declared as “better”.

      • Zackasaur

        As always, sure.

But I’m a person who would declare it as such. And did!

        • Yuntu

I don’t know anything about Dragon Quest besides that I don’t like the character design. So I can’t judge :p

          • Zackasaur

            lulz

Yeah, Toriyama’s self-cloning is no where near the designs of geniuses like Nomura and Amano.

  • Char Aznable

Need this in my life. I love Dragon Quest’s music so much.

  • Kobracon

    Sweeeeeet!

  • Articuno76

I can’t think of a single track from DQ. Part of that is that I’ve not really played the games, but even then I know quite a bit of FF music from games I’ve not played just because the tracks are so iconic.

Honestly, it’s a little baffling that SE hasn’t teamed up with Nintendo to do a Nintendo-themed Theatrhythm.

    • Budgiecat

      not even the main theme???

      • Articuno76

I don’t know how it goes. It might be one of those songs that I’d know if I heard it but honestly…. I’ve got nothing.

        • Budgiecat

          It goes…

Pretty much all of Sugiyama’s work is somehow contained in this comment.

This comment is so much YES XD

          • z_merquise

            What the heck, cat!

  • Budgiecat

    You know what I’d get?

    Theatrhythm Guilty Gear X BlazBlue

    • Articuno76

How come there was never a Guitar Hero spin-off of THAT! :P

      • Skerj

Because starting that game would be akin to opening the Ark of the Covenant on Raiders of the Lost Ark. You can’t handle Daisuke’s skills so everyone’s face would melt.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Just a month after DQ Heroes for PS3/PS4. I’m so getting DQ Heroes for PS4.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

    TheatreRhythm Valkyrie Profile.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

And fifth will be “TheatreRhythm Star Ocean” which would be awesome

  • FTM

This would be really great if Square didn’t think America wasn’t good enough for DQ.

    • Zackasaur

Hopefully they’re starting to change that… DQ Heroes is the perfect opportunity, hopefully followed by DQXI on PS4.

And as a Theatrhythm game, this one would be super easy to localise.

  • yunsofprovo

Dragon Quest had some of the best world map themes.

  • http://ryuz4ki57inenglish.wordpress.com/ Thomas FROEHLICHER

    Didn’t they return to Playstation?

    • http://resettears.wordpress.com/ Reset Tears

I do find it amusing to get news of a new Dragon Quest game for 3DS literally within a day of “Dragon Quest creator on return to Playstation.” LOL!

      • Zackasaur

        It is funny timing. xD

To be fair, the Dragon Quest director should hardly be involved with a Theatrhythm project. lulz

    • MrKappa

This was most likely in the works long before that announcement was ever thought up and besides, Vita won’t make them the money 3DS will.

      • http://ryuz4ki57inenglish.wordpress.com/ Thomas FROEHLICHER

I don’t say make it exclusive but at least multiplatform

        • OlimacFTW

Would you ask for multiplatform if the game were a Vita exclusive?

          • http://ryuz4ki57inenglish.wordpress.com/ Thomas FROEHLICHER

I would leave that to you, obviously ;)

            • OlimacFTW

It would be difficult… I’m not a beggar.

        • kthanxyousuck

Why would they make a DQ Rhythm game on a system that hasn’t seen a DQ game? Only a small audience would buy it.

      • OverlordZetta

Well it sure wont if they never put anything on it.

    • Mozendo

Koei Tecmo insisted DQ:Heroes to be on PS4 so Horii said yes. He didn’t say anything about DQ being back on playstation as an exclusive or anything.

      • krokounleashed

or that they abandon any other platform.

    • Anime10121

Theatrhytm is a 3DS series is the most likely reason (they already have the framework set up for 3DS as no Theatrhythm game has been made for Vita).

      • Mnoz

        Vita needs a new Dissidia.

        • Anime10121

True, a new Dissidia needs to be made period, be it for home console or Vita!

      • NessWonderSprite

You keep telling yourself that. Square has made almost no vita games.

        • Anime10121

Dude… What the hell are you even on about :/
Theatrhythm IS a 3DS series, how you could even misconstrue that statement as an attack against your precious 3DS is beyond me :/

          • NessWonderSprite

My point is, Square would not support the Vita with new exclusive games even if it was not Theatrhythm

            • Anime10121

And nowhere did I even suggest that they would, I just stated the most logical answer I could think of to his/her question.

Going directly into fanboy defense mode at the drop of a hat ain’t cute Nessy :/

            • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

The only person posting about this is you. I don’t really see why the topic was brought up to begin with.

      • Elvick

It’s on iOS, the first anyway. I don’t see how it would be too hard to port that to Vita.

But it’s SE, so it doesn’t surprise me they haven’t.

        • Anime10121

True I forgot about that :P.

All I really meant is that the 3DS is an easy job since the game is basically already built for 3DS. To make it for Vita, they’d have to actually work and spend a little money to get the engine ported to Vita (though maybe it’d be an easy port of the iOS engine).

    • NessWonderSprite

Square always made games for playstation

  • Splinter

Man, Square looks almost exclusive to Nintendo when it comes to handheld systems. Or they just want to make money easy and fast in Japan.

    • krokounleashed

Wait.. they want to make money? Fuck companies.

    • kthanxyousuck

Why would they put a DQ rhythm game anywhere else?

  • badmoogle

This is a must buy for me even if it’s only for DQVIII’s soundtrack! Now the question is will it ever come in the west?

  • Claude

I’d prefer Theatrhythm Seiken Densetsu, but I’ll take this too.

  • DividedSeraph

    Theatrhythm Digital Devil Saga!
    …or Nocturne, either/or.
