Tamsoft-developed action game spin-off headed westward.

Hyperdimension Neptunia U

Hyperdimension Neptunia U, Compile Heart and Tamsoft’s PS Vita action game spin-off of the popular RPG series, is coming to North America and Europe in spring 2015, Idea Factory announced.

The game will be available in both retail and digital formats. It features new playable characters, customizable equipment, and new skills not seen in previous Neptunia games. Its official website is available here.

Idea Factory International has been on a roll lately. Shortly after launching Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, the publisher confirmed localizations for both Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 and Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart for PS Vita, as well as Omega Quintet for PlayStation 4.

Find the announcement trailer and a summary of the game’s story and key features below. View a new set of screenshots at the gallery.

Story

Gamindustri – a world protected by the four CPUs and their CPU Candidates. No world can remain unseen by the eyes of evil, but due to the combined efforts of the CPUs and the CPU Candidates, no strong enemies or monsters are able to cause any chaos. Thus, the CPUs and their people find themselves in a peaceful boredom. Amidst this relaxing time, the CPUs are approached with a fascinating proposition…

Key Features

  • Street brawling! For the first time ever, your favorite Neptunia characters will have to hack ‘n’ slash their way through waves of enemies in real time! In the free-roaming stages, you’ll get to create chain combos both on the ground and in the air.
  • Two-person party! With the Dual System, you’ll be able to switch between two characters on the battlefield. Balance out each character’s strengths and weaknesses to create the ultimate battle duo, and even get some new playable characters – some of whom might be familiar from previous Neptunia games.
  • Let’s get physical! The heat of battle can cause some wear and tear on your outfits. When you experience a “Costume Break,” your outfits will tear, lowering your defense but increasing your critical rate and EXE Drive Gauge. The road to comebacks is paved with ripped fabric!
  • Skills get the kills! Fill up the EXE Drive Gauge in order to clear the room with two tiers of special attacks, and you might just get a helping hand from your friend later on to perform some super special attacks!

idea factory int. must change name to neptunia factory int.well i heard what this is the better neptunia spinoff speaking of story content.so the sonner the better.

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

    Probably censored

    • Renaldi Saputra

      You mean the dress break?

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        Yea

        • Elvick

Precedent has already been set for that sort of thing in the west. There’s no need to censor such a thing as long as they don’t mind being rated the same as Shinovi Versus got.

Can’t imagine it would get rated differently.

          • OverlordZetta

The one concern I have is some of the characters here are noticeably younger looking, and that (age) conveniently happens to be the sticking point for ratings boards.

We must protect the rights of the drawings and the doodles after all.

            • Elvick

              I guess that’s a valid reason.

Forget the rights of digital characters, my imaginary friend is discriminated against all the time and NO ONE CARES. D:<

    • Kiryu

      It’s not NISA.

      • kurbstar2

Which is why there’s still hope

    • Zackasaur

IFI don’t seem inclined to change content.

      • OverlordZetta

While I’m inclined to agree, Monpiece was still a thing.

        • Manny Being Manny

Monpiece is a lot more extreme than this game. Neptunia U doesn’t really have anything I’d expect them to censor.

          • kurbstar2

Interactive sequences with reactions are judged much harsher than still images

        • Shippoyasha

Yeah. Would love to see a non edited Monpiece release. Hopefully on PC? I’m not sure Steam would allow it. Not yet anyway.

    • Taedirk

Tamsoft respects the power of oppai. Don’t think they’d allow it.

    • Guest

I doubt it, thought it’d be better without the clothing damage, anyway.

  • Kiryu

YESSS!I was waiting for this announcement.More Nep Nep for my Vita.

  • Mika Moreno

I’ve been waiting for this :P I’m excited!

  • Zackasaur

    Nice!

How does the gameplay compare in quality and style to Senran Kagura and Dynasty Warriors? I haven’t read reviews/opinions on this one.

    • OverlordZetta

It’s apparently similar to SK (it’s the same devs), which in turn isn’t really very much like DW despite constant comparisons.

      • Zackasaur

That’s what I figured, but I wanted to cover all ground in case U and SK weren’t as similar in practice as they appear.

    • Kayseur

Very similar to SK, just a little less fun imo (no air dashes unless you’re transformed, which means it’s somewhat slower). And it’s easy. WAY TOO easy. Especially if you equip the “right” items that give you power bonus.

It’s still fun though if you’re a fan of HDN — but I still like SK more.

      • Zackasaur

Ah, thanks for the detail! I do like air dsshing a lot, but I suppose that’s good enough for me to pick this up.

  • Anime10121

The spinoff I was looking forward to most has been CONFIRMED :D

Though those of us in the OF already knew this was coming thanks to based Sal ;)

  • Lansou Everett

for a minute there, i thought it was a Hyperdimension game for the Wii U, and then i was like “a third party exclusive RPG on the Wii U……? naaaaah”

    • Zackasaur

      lulz

That’s always been the joke with this one.

  • Manny Being Manny

Idea Factory International is the best thing to happen to Neptunia. We’re getting rapid fire releases now

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

They’re the best thing that’s happened to the Vita

      • MrFinalgamer

        That’s going a bit far.

        • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Vita’s support in the west is abysmal yet IFI is releasing games physically

          • MrFinalgamer

TellTale is doing the same exact thing.

Plus, best thing that happened to Vita? That was years ago, it was called 3rd party support from places, besides super niche devs.

            • minato arisato

“it was called 3rd party support from places, besides super niche devs” soooo 3rd party’s like bamco, tecmo koei, sega and square enix are niche? i think you mean WESTERN 3rd party support.

              • MrFinalgamer

And Ubisoft, and Capcom, and Sega, and Warner Bros, and EA, and when Sony themselves actually gave a crap.

                • minato arisato

really ea and ubisoft are apart of the the best things to happen to the vita? what have they done outside of 1 need for speed game, rayman and 1 assassin’s creed game? and isn’t resident evil revelations 2 coming to the vita? did sega not just release a game on the vita not too long ago?(i think it was phantasy star nova) did japan studio not just release freedom wars not too long ago?

                  • Budgiecat

dont mention Sega. That PS Nova game is not getting localized…

                • desponent

That happen to all portable consoles.

            • Kiryu

Please don’t compare Telltale with Compile Heart,i like their games but their Vita ports are horrible that’s why i got the wolf among us on PS3 and not Vita and they are waaay behind Compile Heart with Vita support.

              • MrFinalgamer

When your games are super low budget, or just ports, that’s not saying a whole lot.

                • Kiryu

Should i remind you that big budget does not equal good games?I would take CH over any boring AAA

                  • MrFinalgamer

That’s correct, big budget does not equal good games, proof of it is indies like Shovel Knight, Meatboy, Freedom Planet, Shantae, and many others.

But, otaku pandering, like most, if not, all of Compile Heart’s games does not equal quality. Almost everything they make is average at best, and I would gladly take any “boring AAA”with actual effort put into it, over a CH game.

                    • Kiryu

I could say the same thing about the games you mentioned, for me indies are software garbage but to each his own,Shantae is a good game.

                    • desponent

                      That’s subjective as heck.

                    • MrFinalgamer

About Compile Heart? Mate, their games are average at best. There’s no denying that at all.

                    • desponent

Do you understand subjectivity? Tell me some of your most loved game and I could go back at you exactly the way you do to people who loves CH games (FYI I don’t).

                    • MrFinalgamer

People might like the games, and it’s okay. But the games are not of good quality. That’s a fact, not subjective.

                    • OverlordZetta

                      A subjective one, maybe.

                    • desponent

“Good quality” is for each person themselves to recognize.

Game is ultimately played for recreation, how people achieve that vary and that’s what ultimately measures what is “good” or “bad”. Just because you don’t found one enjoyable don’t make you have right to tell people to “stop denying” when you tell people that the game they enjoy is “bad”. That’s arrogant as f.

Of course you can disagree and have opinion, but don’t force that to other people or try to make it as fact when there is no single objective way to measure it (I’ll laugh you out if you try to bring review ranking or sales number btw).

                    • DividedSeraph

Not really, it was scientifically proven some weeks ago. He was from a Future Gadget lab. Very reputable.

                  • Budgiecat

Are you implying all AAA games are boring? very generalizing. Much

              • Elvick

lolwat, Telltale games perform like poo on everything.

            • OverlordZetta

When TellTale can get their shit together and release the Vita versions of their games at the same time as the rest, they can get some credit for that.

Since they’re not supporting it now, I’m not really sure what good that does us anymore.

          • Elvick

            So are Aksys and NISA.

  • James Reilly

They are going beast mode with these localization efforts nice.

  • Reki Honoo

Now we just need the announcement of victory 2 being localized, and we shall have all the neptunia games coming over to the west

    • Zackasaur

We know it will happen soon enough. IFI are awesome.

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹
    • jujubee88

      This very unsettling

  • TheDevil

    Based IFI.
You guys truly set an example which should be followed by some companies out there that think they can’t turn a profit with niche titles.
I’m very much looking forward to that Nep-filled 2015. :)

    • FTM

It’s unfortunate they got so much flack over Monpiece being censored— now we’ll probably never see Moero Chronicle :*(

      • Manny Being Manny

Moero Chronicles is getting an English translation in China. I’m sure its only a matter of time before its announced for Western release.

        • Shippoyasha

I would love it if Moero somehow found its way on Steam.

      • Derp Minos

If they didn’t censor the game it wouldn’t had flopped. I just hope Neptunia U wasn’t censored.

        • Poyon

It flopped? It charted the first month it came out as a top download in US and EU.

          • kurbstar2

It was #7 or #8 for the first week only, on a handheld that is struggling to sell.

            • Poyon

It was only out a week and yet it still charted as a top seller of that particular month. That is notable, I think.

I don’t disagree that the vita’s struggling, but the fact that it charted at all would seem to indicate that it wasn’t a complete flop.

          • TwinBuns

            There are download charts?

            • Poyon

At the beginning of every month Playstation us and eu blogs tell everyone what the top digital sales were. Monpiece was out for only a week and charted for that particular month, which is notable.

    • DividedSeraph

If only they could localize stuff worth owning…

    • ManagedCorn

      they get profits?

      • Budgiecat

if not, who’s financially backing these localizations?

        King Weeaboo?

      • AlphaSixNine

I don’t think a company will announce multiple projects at the same time if they don’t have enough data to know they’ll earn some profit. Most likely not as much as big AAA titles, but enough for them to do limited edition runs and physical copies on a console struggling to sell.

        If only KT learns from IFI and release physical copies on Vita Atelier games too. ;.;

    • http://twitter.com/SrTirano MrTyrant

If they could localize something I like I would praise them but I won’t.

  • BizarreJelly

Sorey Sorey Sorey Sorey Sorey Sorey Sorey

  • Romored

Is it normal that I’m much more interested in these spin-off (Noire and U) than the regular series?

    • James Reilly

Your comparing a turn based traditional rpg to a srpg/hack & slash so I guess you have different genre preference, but still like the Neptunia theme.

      • Romored

It’s not that, I’ve always liked jrpgs in general. It’s just that I find these spin-offs fresher than the regular Neptunia series.
Noire is a tactical rpg, anyway, and I’m really looking forward to it.

    • Harry Potter

      kyaaaaaa!!!!

  • Budgiecat

honestly, at this point, does anyone still really doubt if a CH game is gonna get localized or not?

As much as I cant stand them, they have a proper business mentality in terms of reaching out for global sales for maximized success, especially when home console and handheld game sales are dwindling in Japan because people would rather play uninspired cheap cell phone apps

    • Elvick

      Technically not a CH game.

But I don’t think people worry about Neptunia games coming over, or a CH game in general at this point.

The only “iffy” [heh] localization for this series was Producing Perfection, and we got that. So it’s pretty obvious that the series is healthy enough to come over all the time.

Unless that changes drastically, we have nothing to worry about. Still, confirmation is always better than waiting. :p

      • OverlordZetta

It’s still a Compile Heart title. Got them on the credits there, see?

Yeah, its main developer was another company, but they’ve been involved in all the spinoffs enough to get a share of the credit. You are quite right otherwise though.

        • Zackasaur

I think that he said “technically” for that very reason, though you do explain it further.

    • triggerx

yes. i still waiting date a live game getting localize even the chance is extremely low… if you can’t stand them why are you still here? jealous much because some of the game you want didnt get localize? lulz

      • Budgiecat

Date A Live? Some boring ass VN based on a lame obscure moe anime thats not even localized? No surprise there

        • triggerx

so? just because it is VN but doesnt mean the localize close to zero. heck even some of the VN game get localize nowadays.. do you live in cave or something? oh i forgot you just a fag that criticize on anything that related to moe. pardon me then ^^

          • Hikari Langley

Sadly he got a point Date A Live, doesn’t really have a chance of getting localized. VN’s rarely get localized and the ones that do, stand out. Date A Live, isn’t exactly winning anything in it’s department.

Of course I love the character designs, but hey that’s it.

          • Budgiecat

Like I said, the Anime isnt even licensed in the West, has no real cult following to justify being released despite that and is as obscure as hell so fat titties chance

            • triggerx

so is the first rebirth game, and that one isnt compatible here :/ (i still have hopes they will make it compatible in the future)

        • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Oh, that’s happened before. IFI may say something

        • Zackasaur

IFI said Re;birth1 won’t get fixed for PSTV, but that all Vita games moving forward will be supported by PSTV.

    • OverlordZetta

IFI has confirmed all their games going forward will be.

  • Firion Hope

Holy CRAP! They are on fire. Sooooo many games I need to buy in spring 2015 from them alone

I wonder if they’ll end up doing V-II as well

  • Nerroth

Since U already has Dengekiko and Famitsu-chan, perhaps a potential follow-up might add characters based on English-language game sites such as Gematsu, Siliconera, or IGN?

    • OverlordZetta

For some (likely very stupid) reason, Compile Heart has been intent on pretending Victory didn’t happen ever since it happened. I’m almost surprised it got a remake considering how happy they are to ignore it most of the time.

  • PenguinPlayer

Tamsoft did Senran Kagura right? I liked Senran Kagura, yes, even the gameplay. Maybe I will check this out.

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

      They did Shinovi Versus

      • OlimacFTW

Not according to Gamefaqs. Tamsoft made the 3ds games.

Edit: My bad. Thanks for the corrections.

        • Daverost

GameFAQs is wrong a lot more than you’d think. The only Senran Kagura game that Tamsoft didn’t develop was Bon Appetit.

        • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹
        • OverlordZetta

          Tamsoft makes all of them.

    • Zackasaur

      “Even the gameplay.”

That’s the main reason I play SK. D: I do not like the fanservice.

      • Ris Ris

fanservice aside, the gameplay itself is pretty solid but ehhhh.. I guess people have their own reasons to play the game

        • Zackasaur

          That’s my point, really. :P

      • PenguinPlayer

I play it for the gameplay too, fanservice is a rather minor thing for me, really. Maybe I’ve worded my feeling poorly.

The main reason I do play them is for the plot though. All that suffering, all those surprisingly well rounded characters. Starting a Senran Kagura game is like opening a very well disguised box of endless feels.

        • Zackasaur

Yeah, the characters can be a lot of fun.

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹
    • http://twitter.com/GNPixie Lynx

      Yep.

They also did the Eloquent Fist and Xross Impact Ikki Tousen games which were so good, much better than Shining Dragon for the PS2.

    • WhyWai

never know that! definitely a good news!

    • Tyler Beale

      They also did Neptunia PP.

  • Guest

What the hell is going on??? All these damn hyperdimension neptunia whatever their names are, seem to be getting a release every damn week. I am.not sure what the games are even about

NISA localised slowly, but now IFI localise and are catching us up VERY quickly.

      It’s awesome.

      • Anime10121

Its not really that NisA localized slowly more than it is that all IF seems to be localizing IS the Neptunia games while NisA had more than one series to work with…

        • Zackasaur

Maybe I should have added more words. They localised Neptunia slowly.

still better than please be excited from square enix XD

the game is basicly one big joke and reference to the gaming wars of the real world. all of the characters are a personification of a game console: Neptune is based off of the likewise named Sega Neptune, Noire is the PS, Vert is the Xbox, and Blanc is the wii. they constantly make references and jokes about other games or companies. in the latest game theirs a character relationship between Noire and one of the “villians” thats a direct reference to the Sony Hacking incident.

      • Tyler Beale

        The Neptunia anime series.

Thank you IFI! NISA does crappy work localizing things anyway. I hope Japanese devs catch wind of this and go to XSEED or IFI or anyone else that’s not NISA.

Grow up, they do a good job, and a lot of people could care less about taking out moaning loli sounds. =P

  • soul_710

Why no clothes destruction in that trailer? Iffy is missing the point

  • tomato_ketchup

i swear if they censor this….

    • Guest

      It’d be better without it.

      • Tyler Beale

Without the shot or without censorship?

  • natchu96

The damage numbers in the trailer look pretty . . . overkill.

Which is totally awesome, but poor enemies :(
