Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster announced for PS4

Final Fantasy VII for PS4 priced at $15.99.

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster

Following leaks earlier this week, Square Enix has officially announced Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is coming to PlayStation 4 in spring 2015.

The game will cost $49.99 in North America and £39.99 in Europe. Its Japanese price is still to be determined.

The collection includes high-definition remasters of Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X: Eternal Calm, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy X-2: Last Mission, and the credits and bonus audio.

Additionally, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII, also coming to PlayStation 4 in spring 2015, will launch via download for $15.99 / €15,99 / £12.99.

Both Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy VII will have PlayStation 4 “system-exclusive features.” Further details were not announced.

        Mind, don’t expect a bunch of new game announcements for the west. :P This is mostly about the Chinese launch for the PS4 and Vita. They’re doing everything right, though, so there is no doubt at all that they’ll be dominant by far in the region.

        I am getting conflicting reports (aka chinese forum posts) on the region free thing. I read somewhere that Sony is possibly waiting approval on the issue.

          I read that a while back, but what I’m told from this conference is that they did get the approval.

          But, again, I can’t be 100% sure without a stronger source. Are the conflicting reports of yours older, or are they actually from this conference?

          EDIT: I see your edit, now. I’ll keep looking for more info.

            I missed the stream so I couldn’t watch it myself. But on the chinese forums where people are reacting realtime to the press conference, they are saying that it looks like it’s region locked but Sony only stated that it will issue a statement on the matter once approval decision comes. Take everything with a grain of salt. It’s the internet after all.

                  We’ll have to see. It may be a difficult thing to reverse.

                  It seems pretty apparent that Sony/PlayStation are a lot more China-savvy than Microsoft/Xbox are. That’s not necessarily surprising, but it is interesting to watch.

                  EDIT: I just remembered that the Chinese Xbox One even uses the online activation codes that they had planned to use internationally to fight used games.

                      PlayStation systems have traditionally been dominant in China. They also practically monopolise the developing world.

                      That’s part of why Sony can be really confident in investing heavily in PlayStation right now. They’re not just winning in every single major country… They also basically own all of the growing/emerging markets.

                      Unfortunately for nerds like me, these emerging regions are hard to reliably track for sales data.

                      I do agree that Sony is favored to win against MS in China. Unfortunately, the general consumer culture in China is probably a bigger hurdle than MS.

                      Other than places like Hong Kong and Taiwan, China (outside of a few enthusiast who import) doesn’t really have a history of console gaming. The idea that you are suppose to buy a $400 console so you can pay $60 for one game will be such a shock to all but the most hardcore of gamer.

                      Although Sony’s PS+ is sure to get a lot of marketing and will probably be much more acceptable to people. Piracy will remain a huge issue.

                      That’s why I am also scared that PS4 release in China will cause greater interest for hackers to try to hack the console to play pirated games. Currently I think most of the PS3 hardware mods are made by Chinese hackers.

                      I really love console gaming. I hope Sony will be able to overcome these problems and China becomes a viable market, so that we can all have more games to play.

                      We’ll have to see. Certainly, both Sony and Microsoft feel that the chance to stake a claim in a massively emerging market is more than worth whatever risks there are. Plus, piracy in China became a problem through import consoles anyway. It can’t really be any worse merely because they’re now being sold officially. If anything, Sony (and to a lesser extent Microsoft) can use this as an opportunity to provide better services, communication, and games which all appeal to Chinese tastes.

                      Tech culture in China has grown considerably over the last several years. Smartphones in particular are a huge phenomenon there, with people regularly paying $400+ for the devices. As long as the appeal of console gaming is present, there is no reason why people cannot do the same for such a machine, especially given that it will be longer-lasting.

                      All we can do for now is speculate, but it’s going to be very interesting. I too love console gaming and want to see China have a positive impact on the industry.

        XB1 with Kinect: 4.299 RMB = $694.83

        The PS4 is ~$130 – ~$227 cheaper than the Xbone in China.

      Again, that is something that YOU as a fan/customer (that have accepted the FFVII on PS4 thing, which is actually a very rare occurrence) would love so for you they need to go extra lengths to let you down so…………………..no you aren’t getting that.

        I don’t see why I would be let down by the FFVII HD remaster being made available on PS4 with trophies. I mean, I could simply not buy it if I don’t want it, and it won’t hurt me. And if I do want it, then yay~

        The particular style of their trailer debut at Sony’s conference is the real issue here. It got some (fairly irrational) hopes up and then swiftly crushed them. It was a perfect troll moment, but that’s not something that a company should be doing to excited fans, be it intentional or not.

        Anyway, as for a physical release, I wasn’t expecting it whatsoever. I’d merely have liked it for the sake of my collection. :P

    I’ll just wait for it to be 20, the PS3 version dropped pretty quick with endless sales after its release. I still have my PS3 copy and never touched it. Was thinking of trading it in but I have the limited edition with the sleeve box or whatever. It looks nice and white lol can’t trade it away under those conditions.

    This was a PlayStation event, but I have to wonder if we might not see an Xbox One version announcement soon as well. SE are already making KH3, FFXV and Type Zero multi-plat after all.

      That would make sense, the only reason I could see them not doing it is if Sony has some sort of an exclusivity deal for the remasters of their older exclusives.

      Well, it has been formally announced only for PS4 in China, Japan, and Europe. We’re still waiting on the US announcement, but it’s pretty safe to say that this is not coming to Xbone.

      The same appears to go for FFVII HD.

    I wonder if they will make any more improvements to the remaster itself… If not, I’ll probably be happy with my LE PS3 collection, although if they did one for PS4…I might double dip.

      I hope the next gen version of the KH collection is avaliable for both consoles. If they’re going to bring KH3 to the xbone they might as well let players there catch up with the rest while they’re at it.

        Your point is valid, but there is also a wide expectation that the Xbone version won’t sell even 10% as many KHIII copies as the PS4 version will. It just might not be that important.

        I mean, FFX/X-2 HD could have gone on Xbone and further built up that console’s FF userbase in anticipation of Type-0 HD and especially FFXV. But it’s going to be on PS4 exclusively, serving that purpose only on the console where most of the Type-0/XV sales will be. The same goes for FFVII HD.

        There is also FFXIV, but that can be explained by Microsoft’s restrictive policies.

      But they, like any game company, always want money. Releasing FFX/X-2 HD on PS4 is a good, fast way to get some. And that money can then fund more projects…. Like, say, FFXII HD.

    I got CE for PS3 and copy for Vita, I even got Limited Edition for PS3. What can I do FFX is my favourite FF and one of my favourite games ever. However, I’ll probably sell Limited Edition and buy PS4 version. I haven’t got a chance to play the game on either PS3 or Vita. Too busy with Xillia 2 & P4G.

    Guys, don’t let them screw you, I bought the Limited Edition of this for PS3 at $40, and if anything, the PS4 version should be 10 bucks cheaper, not the other way around!

    Also, FFVII being exactly like it is now; is not worth 16 bucks if I can buy the original one from the PSN on my PS3 for 5 dollars.

      If you don’t mind paying an extra $10 over the MSRP for those releases or waiting out a sale, sure. I didn’t buy it on PS3 or Vita either, so I’ll be waiting a bit longer (under the safe assumption that it does reach the US) and grabbing it once the PS4 version hits and drops in price.

      I cant see any reason why anyone would, unless they just HAD to have it on PS4. I honestly dont see a way they can improve the game aside from also including the original OST and being dual audio…

        I mean I just finished the game like 4 months ago so I’m not ready for a real remake either but still a let down they’re doing this. And yes a sequel that perhaps take place after Advent Children or during those events would be sweet. Loved that cast of characters, as it’s the first FF game I’ve ever played in 19 years of living.

            Yeah after Hironobu Sakaguchi left almost everything went south for Square Enix. Guess they don’t wanna tarnish his name by screwing up a remake of one the most beloved games of all time so that’s why they could just be porting the PC version that see what modern gamers want changed in the game to fit standards and what to leave alone and then release a remake so that they do it right.

        I played Crisis Core before FFVII and also watched Advent Children and I liked both much more than the main game. I played VII only 4 years ago, maybe if I played it during the PS1 era I would’ve liked it more. A sequel could be good as long as it is in the right hands at SE.

          She took up the mantle of Captain Marvel since Mar-Vell died. She is getting one you know, well Captain Marvel is, but I believe they are gonna just jump in and make Carol, Captain Marvel. This way they set up Kamala as Ms. Marvel in the Inhumans movie. I hope I get to see them kick ass side by side…a nerd can dream.

              Nah she’s still just Carol. It’s just I think with no one having the mantle she wanted to continue the legacy. Plus it’s part of Marvel’s whole new “we aren’t sexist we swear!” movement.

                Oh yeah with female Thor and Thor classic not having a hammer anymore. That coupled with how arrogant superman is in the new 52 or how sexualized starfire is… Theyre pushing me more and more into manga. But that said manta has its bad moments too. Like stereotypes with other cultures or races or outright sexism in shonen stuff. Few comics I can read these days. I still love the DC and marvel animated movies on DVD though.

                      Doubtful. All the villains who were inverted are trying to change their image. Carnage is still a psychopath but he’s trying to be a hero. Doctor Doom is making Latveria a democracy. Deadpool is trying to talk the X-Men and Avengers from killing each other. I actually find it to be an entertaining read and I hope some of the villains stay heroes.

                      There was a big event during AXIS were Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange attempted to invert the Red Onslaught’s (Red Skull with the Psychic powers of Charles Xavier) mind. Something in the spell went wrong and everyone who was there had their alignment inverted so those who were good turned bad and those who were bad turned good. Deadpool went from being a crazy assassin who talks too much to being a crazy pacifist who talks too much.

    I bought the special edition on PS3. I still haven’t had the chance to play my Remaster’s. I’ll likely pass on this. I’ll be quite happy with the PS3 version when I get to it.

        What really bums me is the fact i JUST got a PS3 and mainly for this and kingdom hearts (which i’m sure will be on PS4 now as well >.<)

        Question now is… do i keep the PS3 or sell it? D:

        16$ steam version of FF7 on PS4 when the PS1 classic version is 10$ on PS3?
        I'm starting to see a trend…

        I definitely need to wait before i make a decision to see what they are planning. If i can get all my PS1 classic downloads i already have from PSN on PS4 at some point i might consider selling. (Because there is no way i am buying them AGAIN)

    I guess the semi-elephant in the room is the lack of a FFXII HD, buuuut… I like thinking they’re trying to remake Revenant Wings and won’t just release the first game by itself >3>

    I think FFVII being $15 is a touch steep. At least the PC version you could modify it to look and even sound better, but the PS4 is still the same lego-esque character models, right..?

    This is a waste of time, square has to realized that their fans are sensitive to the bs they constantly bring. Will they ever learn smh, just give us FFVII remake, FFVI remake for Vita and 3DS, FFXV, Type-0(finally coming), FFXII HD, KH3, and new JRPG titles and will be happy.

      $50 is disrespectful especially when it just came out early this year at a $10 bones less.

      – Dual Audio should’ve been in the game to begin with
      – 60fps isn’t necessary in a turn based RPG. It literally serves no gameplay benefit whatsoever. Was FFX (PS2) and the PS3 version that unplayable for people to keep bringing up framerate? This infatuation with framerates is so unhealthy when people are asking for 60fps in what is essentially a text adventure.
      – 1080p native without FXAA and 720p with FXAA is already available on the PS3 version. 1080p is accessed through the XMB Display Options. It’s not in-game but it’s there.
      – “Remastered” and original OST should’ve been an option in the beginning.

    Eat dick! Type-0 at least has an excuse because we never got the PSP game out Western and it had a substantial graphical upgrade, gameplay tweaks and a demo for Final Fantasy XV.

    I just bought this game in March THIS YEAR for $10 less and it’s even cheaper now. Come on people. I know I’ll get disagrees over this but please be perceptive. This is a PS2 game in 2015 being priced at $50! That is horseshit. The only excuse you would have buying this is that you don’t own it already.

    Oh no, so much FF VII news will bring out the people wanting the remake lol God, here we go again. I hope they never do that, because sometimes original creations have a magic that isn’t easily duplicated, especially not without the original people. Sakaguchi was around the entire process of FF VII being made and I am convinced he brought something unique to the game that would be lost with a graphic focused remake.

    Also, the music would be messed up, trying to get modernised with modern beats and cheesy takes on the classic originals. No thanks.

    Does anyone know if this release has the PC soundtrack? Because if I remember right that version sucked compared to the PS version.

      The current PS Store version is $10. I didn’t realize trophies and having OGG Vorbis formatted music was bumps the value by $15 for a PS1 game. Absolutely ridiculous.

      i want i ff or ffiv remake!! worrior of light and onion knight are good character! But what I yearn for is the whole plot of xii to be remade or vaan to never be in that game and give balthier the leading role instead of the han solo role!!!

    I see what they did…
    They made this when PS4 was already out, but waited on the PS4 release so they could get people to buy it twice.

    I think it is going to make a lot of people mad when FF12 HD remaster is released on PS4 only. (Considering Type 0 HD never got a PS3 version or even a Vita version for that matter when it was originally for PSP!)

    Actually for Type 0 i wouldn’t be surprised if a year down the road they make a Vita port…
