Like I'm going to miss my one opportunity to post a screencap from Nolan North's best cutscene.

Resonance of Fate

This week’s Famitsu leaks bring word of a handful of additional new details about Phantasy Star Nova, the upcoming tri Ace-developed PS Vita RPG.

Among the details is information on an operator character by the name of Kisara (voiced by Chiwa Saito). She’s a support character who gives players advice on things such as enemy placements and ideal strategies in accordance with ongoing battlefield conditions.

The magazine also mentions the existence of a base that players can make use of in the game. Unlocked after one of the characters brings it back up online, its functionality can be expanded by spending material gained from down enemies, enabling players to do things such as manufacture items and weapons, among other things. Additionally, the wares that shops offer will expand as they grow as a business.

Also announced is a small collaboration with another Sega game, Resonance of Fate, a 2010 PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 RPG also developed by tri-Ace. Players will be able to equip the protagonists’ costumes in the game, as well as wield their weapons.

Phantasy Star Nova is currently set for release in Japan for the PS Vita on November 27.

Thanks, Hachima.

Still haven’t gone past the first hour of RoF <..>

I’ve lost track of how many cameo/collabs have become part of Phantasy Star, haha.

For those of you who have not had the pleasure of seeing the cutscene in question, behold:

It’s incredible in Japanese, too, but Nolan North’s delivery really sells it in the English localization.

Resonance of Fate was such a freaking waste of potential. What could have been a great experience was a boring ass game with good ideas not worth playing.

    • Budgiecat

hmm I dunno about all that….

    • DividedSeraph

Two words redeem it: fashion design.

  • z_merquise

But I thought all they had are raisins.

I liked the game but couldn’t stand the dubbing so I never finished

There’s JP voice in the western versions, no?

      • Altin

        Yup, there is.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        No

        • bloodiOS

          Yes, there is.

          • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

            Maybe the EU had it

            • z_merquise

Mine’s US version. I’m pretty sure it had English and Japan voices.

            • bloodiOS

I live in North America and got the North American version. Here’s an article confirming it:

              http://www.siliconera.com/2009/08/05/resonance-of-fate-sort-of-has-dual-voice-tracks/

            • Budgiecat

              NA version had dual Audio.

And I picked English dub every time as it had way more charm

              • MrFinalgamer

                Dat Nolan North???

                • Budgiecat

                  Damn straight.

                  Also loved Leanne’s voice actor.

    • LordKaiser

The dub was better than the original Japanese voices IMO.

I think resonance of fate was up there among the other JRPG battle system that I loved (the other was FFXII, my opinion of course) but it downside was its dull town/city and that boring hexagonal chess overworld map. oh yeah, about story… I didn’t finished it so I dont know haha… :) I think that was around the time I got myself a PSP so I abandoned my PS3 for almost a year.

    • PrinceHeir

The Hexagonal chess overworld is a throw back to one of Tri Ace older games Valkyrie Profile.

This game is probably the closest Valkyrie Profile game we got.

Same director of VP2 (and Labyrinth no Kanata).

    • ddsfan2

I agree, the combat system is engaging and deep, especially the boss fights..

The game seemed like one of the better JRPGs on the PS360, outside of the story, which has been mediocre relative to its potential as far as I’ve played.

I really need to finish it sometime..

  • PrinceHeir

So Sega actually owns Resonance of Fate IP O___O

Welp, don’t expect a new game on the franchise anytime soon.

    Cool collaboration though.

    • azureknight

I cut Sega some slack for making Resonance of Fate the only last gen game that I can think of, where you could input a code in and unlock bonus costumes. Also give them props for not making all the costumes you can get in the game paid DLC.

  • 永次

Nolan North? You mean Ken Narita.

  • Infinity

    I want a Resonance of Fate 2.

    • nekolife

Possibly my favorite jrpg of last gen.

  • osa

I really enjoyed combat in ROF. Characters were good too.
They could’ve done more with the rest of the game, but still I had a lot of fun with what was there.

This game actually looks quite interesting.

  • TheDevil

Resonance of Fate was easily one of last gen’s best.
    And DAT hilarious scene, lol.
That pose even made its way into Project X Zone.
