Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Following a leak last month, Capcom announced Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC during Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia’s press conference this morning.

The game features a completely new setting and story, and the protagonists will not be Chris and Jill. It is planned to launch in early 2015.

Capcom will announce more details next week. The game will also be playable at the Tokyo Game Show later this month.

Confirmed on PS4 at least then :)

Just been skimming through the (EDIT) PS Conference stuff on here, and this is cool. I really enjoyed the first one, although I played on 3DS. It’d be a shame if the sequel avoided the handheld.

    • ShadowFang

This isn’t TGS. This is just a Playstation conference Sony’s holding. TGS is Sept. 18th, McPoo.

      • McPoo

Ooh really?! That’s how out of touch with this stuff I am lol. Cheers for pointing thst out

  • ShadowFang

Man, Sony’s crushing it with Japanese PS4 announcements. Really hope it causes the support & sales to pick up in the Land of the Rising Sun.

  • Kefka Palazzo

Ugh. Capcom needs to reboot Resident Evil and change its direction. 5 & 6 were terrible. Never played Revelations. Heard mixed reviews from friends who are always horror fans. Surely they aren’t creatively bankrupt?

    • Dick Mountainjoy

      “mixed reviews”

      Best since 4 is mixed?

      • Kefka Palazzo

More along the lines of a love it or hate it scenario.

4 was the last great Resident Evil. When Mikami left, so did the talent.

        • Dick Mountainjoy

Spoilers, RE purists will never be happy with a new game, thats why they constantly port old ones.

          • Kefka Palazzo

A bit of a broad assumption on your part, don’t you think?

Sure, I can consider myself a hardcore RE purist, having been introduced to the surprise cult horror hit that was the first Resident Evil on my big fat PlayStation. However, I enjoyed everything up to 5, where things went pure action. Was it a good game? 8 out of 10 for me. Was it a good Resident Evil game? Nah, but at least it wasn’t RE6. LOL

            • Dick Mountainjoy

And yet you skipped Rev? I think my assumption is dead on, you hated before playing.

              • Kefka Palazzo

I wouldn’t say hate. I can’t rightly hate something I never tried. It’s more of a not being assed to the point of dropping coin down on the game. So many other games, better games, that I’d rather invest my money.

The next RE game I’ll buy is the HD version of the Gamecube port for my PS4.

Oh, and I’ll be buying Mikami’s The Evil Within!

                • Dick Mountainjoy

Rev is the only RE in the last decade to be horror. And the action scenes people whine so much about are less than 10% of the game. Plus it’s on everything

Edit: only buying REREport? Not doing a great job disproving my purists claim…

                  • Kefka Palazzo

It’s only on last-gen, right? If so, which is the better version; PS3 or Wii U?

                    • Dick Mountainjoy

3ds honestly, but whatever is cheaper

                    • Peacenutman

I would really suggest RE Rev, for me, it really gave me the old school RE horror you are all alone and where the f**k is everyone else in a very isolated place vibe. I’d suggest console version because of dual stick and quick switch to scanner with L2/LB button.

                    • Elle

The very beginning of the game and the last area on the game gave me that feeling but everything else felt like RE5 with awful zombie creatures or whatever they were. Not like I had a problem with that I enjoy RE5 once a week or so.

                  • Kefka Palazzo

Not trying to disprove anything you argue. I admit I am a purist. I am a truly hardcore gamer to the textbook definition. However, I cannot speak for other purists and their personal preferences.

What do you think I am, the Joseph Goebbels of RE purists?

    • BrokenSkullZero

Revelations plays like Re4, but story makes it more stupidly convoluted. Though it was a decent 3DS game. Didn’t scale well when ported to console. Some things did feel unnatural in higher fidelity, similar to 6’s gesture system..

Yeah, I didn’t not hate 6, but they really need to think it through better. capcom seems to be only focusing any talent they have on Monster Hunter lately..

      • Dick Mountainjoy

It’s RE, even 1 is stupidly convoluted… Battle Data?

      • Kefka Palazzo

Monster Hunter and Street Fighter are their bread and butter, where both games are still incredibly good. Reason being, they are still being helmed by the O.G.’s who conceived the projects.

Mikami gave birth to Resident Evil, and with his departure, so left the spirit and direction of the franchise. That’s why they need to give someone new a chance to reboot the franchise in its traditional horror roots. It FAILS as an action game.

They let someone else work with their Strider franchise and it turned out pretty damn good. Also, they’re long overdue for a new Breath of Fire.

        • Budgiecat

SF is a flagship title, but it doesnt sell nearly as well as RE, MH and DMC

  • Dick Mountainjoy

    No chris?

Thank god, hopefully no more “muh partner” crap.

    • Kefka Palazzo

Chris is so based. No one punches a boulder like he does.

      • Dick Mountainjoy

Thanks for turning horror shonen capcom, the power of friendship can even beat evil Neo and his noodle demons!

  • PrinceHeir

I wonder if i should get Revelations and REmake on PS3 or PS4? I fear REmake will be only digital in the west.

Can’t wait for either game though!!

  • Hidayat246

“………The game features a completely new setting and story, and the protagonists will not be Chris and Jill. It is planned to launch in early 2015………”

  • b2j135

    WHAT! NO 3DS!!?!
    NOT EVEN ON WII U!?!?!
    That is BULLSHIT Capcom :(

    • Aiddon

welcome the 3rd parties; they will stab you in the back the first chance they get.

    • OlimacFTW

It’s a sad reality: when a third party series starts being successful in a Nintendo hardware, it and the sequels eventually land in other consoles…

  • Elle

Capcom please give Claire the lead role in this. PLEASE.

    • Sav

probably not the lead, but she just might be in the game.

      notice the terrasave shirt.

hopefully capcom seen fans wanted to see claire back.

      we’ll see.

  • Daniel Rossevelt

Darn no Vita release, Oh well It was just a crazy mans dream to play a new resident Evil game on the best portable console.

  • xMCXx

No Wii U? Ridiculous, since it will be released for PS3 and 360!

  • Corin37

Looks like it’s back to zombies instead of mutated monsters if we’re to believe the trailer, which is just fine. But I’d be really happy with an RE Outbreak remake though.

  • $3582264

As with most teasers and trailers these days its completely useless and interchangeable. Cant wait for the actual game though and thumbs up for PC version!!

  • tokyobassist

I don’t like these trailers without gameplay but DAYYYYUMM! That little girl is so dead.

  • DrForbidden

If it’s a completely different setting and no longer on handhelds, I don’t get why this isn’t RE7 instead of RE:R2?

    • $3582264

The resi games in the main series by now are geared towards customers who pick up trendy mass market products. The revelations series is there so they wont completely lose their traditional fan base. Capcom today is a vastly different company.

      • DrForbidden

If Capcom is banking on games like Revelations to keep their traditional fanbase, then They probably won’t have any of those fans left in a couple of years.

        • tokyobassist

They won’t have fans period if they don’t start making good games again. Might as well start with this one.
