The Witness

Development on The Witness, the upcoming first-person puzzler from Braid creator John Blow, is wrapping up, the game’s latest blog post reveals.

“Just wanted to do a quick post saying that we are all working hard on the game, figuring out some of the last unknowns and polishing things up,” Thekla’s Orsi Spanyol said. “We are definitely in finish-the-game mode, that’s why the posts have gotten more rare.”

A release date is still to be announced, but Spanyol shared a new screenshot of the finalized hub area first shown earlier this year, which we’ve attached above.

The Witness is due out for PlayStation 4 and PC.

    I wonder if he’ll get mad if no one “understands” this game, like he did with Braid.

      To be fair, it can be pretty harsh to realise just how stupid people are. I’d have been upset if I were in his shoes, too. Hell, I have been.

        Braid seemed more tediously pretentious than anything smart.

        That said, The Witness has shaped up visually better than I expected. I’m at least looking forward to seeing it at 60fps on PS4.

      If he puts in more boring platforming alongside stupid convoluted puzzles like the infamous cloud “puzzle” then he has no right to be mad. A throwback to Castlevania 2 levels of convoluted is NOT a good thing.

      Developers and gamers alike seem to miss of the concept of good conveyance vs hand holding. I don’t need a yellow brick road to guide me the way but if you start putting in things that logically makes zero sense with the mechanics you’ve learned at that point regarding the game’s “laws” then it’s poor design in my opinion.

    I can’t say I’m too excited about The Witness from what I’ve seen. Braid was so far up it’s own ass it might as well have been a contortionist.

    Funny how the two most overhyped indie games Braid and Fez are so mediocre. It’s unreal the amount of hype they received especially when the devs of both games were being such punks after their successes.

    Then there are games like Antichamber doing very experimental stuff while coming off as an expansion of Portal that gets no love. Where is the line between innovation and expansion of ideas drawn?
