A new fast-paced card game invented by dwarves.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The collector’s edition of the Xbox One version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive exclusive physical content, CD Projekt RED announced at Gamescom.

The Xbox One collector’s edition now includes:

  • The standard edition of the game, containing: the official soundtrack, a beautiful and detailed map of the in-game world, unique stickers, and the developer-created “Witcher Universe – The Compendium”
  • A giant, 33x24x26 cm, 100% hand painted, Polystone figure of Geralt of Rivia battling a Griffin
  • An exclusive, collector grade Witcher medallion
  • A one of a kind SteelBook
  • A two-hundred page artbook, containing breathtaking art from the game
  • A cloth map of the game world
  • Two Gwent card decks
  • Huge outer and inner Collector’s Boxes you can store your Witcher merchandise in

Gwent is a new fast-paced card game that can be played within The Witcher 3 on every platform. Here’s CD Projekt RED’s official description:

Invented by dwarves and perfected over centuries of tavern table play, Gwent is a game of initial simplicity and ultimate depth, something beloved by both road-weary travelers during long nights around the campfire and elegant nobles looking to liven up dragging dinner parties. The game is about the clash of two armies locked in mortal struggle on a battlefield where the players are the leaders and the cards their forces. With four different factions offering unique combat styles and endless paths to victory, Gwent is every adventurer’s first choice when it comes to one-on-one card-based dueling. Take risks and think on your feet, strategize and deliver cunning combos, use potent magic and mighty hero cards and be the last one standing on the field of honor!

Key Features

  • Over 150 unique playing cards.
  • 4 distinct factions: the mighty and cunning Nilfgaardian Empire, the brave Northern Realms and their siege weapons, the agile and devious Scoia’tael, and the brutal monsters of No Man’s Land.
  • Powerful spells allow players to control the weather and affect units on the battlefield.
  • An array of combat styles caters to individual playstyles: close range with heavy knights, long range with skilled archers or artillery with powerful siege weapons.
  • Powerful hero cards, unique to each faction.

    Fucking Microsoft moneyhats.

    • Solomon_Kano

Bastards snatching up card games. Sickening.

      • Six

The nerve, giving CDPR money for something 99% of people will look through once and then stuff in a drawer.

This should be a new trend. Instead of snatching up exclusive DLC it should all be physical crap. Instead of exclusive content in games you get things like keychains and bottleopeners.

        • Solomon_Kano

Fuck yea. Can’t wait for that KH3 LE in 2023 with an exclusive keychain on PS4. That’s what you Xbox bastards get for playing a game that doesn’t belong on your system anyway.

          • Six

I’m sure the Xbox crowd will be too busy amassing a massive collection of Call of Duty themed microfiber cleaning cloths.

            • Solomon_Kano

Gotta get those Battlefield sticker sets, too.

    • 罪罰

I want to play as a female Witcher, not mr angry pantsu

    • Six

While I don’t know if she is a witcher, some think Ciri will be the protagonist of the next game.

        Oooh nice

      • Orichalon Hades

that’s Ciri? i could have sworn she has a blond hair and not White. Unless somewhere further along in the novel she got injected with the Witcher Potions.

        edit:

and even then Geralt hair turning White is a special case

      • Zackasaur

I thought that this was intended as the last Witcher game… Then again, another wouldn’t surprise me.

        • Six

It’s just the last one with Geralt.

          • Zackasaur

Well, at least we’ll rid ourselves of the character. I like the second and presumably third game, but I’ll never enjoy playing as Geralt.

    • BizarreJelly

      But Geralt is a badass!

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Oh I see, well this will be my first Witcher game

        • BizarreJelly

You should defo give the second one a go, it’s fantastic :D the first one is an acquired taste though.

          • Zackasaur

I never acquired that taste. lulz

            • BizarreJelly

You’re not alone with that one!

    • Zackasaur

      I definitely hate Geralt.

  • pixxxelz

Is the ps4 gonna have a collectors edition at all?
’cause this looks pretty darn good

    • Kattaro

Yes it has the same collector’s edition but without cards. So I think is not fair for PS4 and PC players. Xbone has more content than other version but at the same price.

      • Six

        Damn, you are right.

Just like how the PS4 version of Destiny has exclusive content, my Xbone version should be cheaper. :P

        • Kattaro

I preordered PC version so I may think betrayed by CD Project but on the other hand maybe other versions also going to have exclusive content. Well I hope so.

          • Six

“betrayed” is kind of a strong word over a deck of cards.

I mean, can’t you get a 20% discount on the PC version if you own the previous games? And there are all those digital exclusives for pre-ordering.

            • Kattaro

Discount is only for digital edition not physical edition.

I know “betrayed” is strong word but players are going to feel that way because new Tomb Raider going to be released first on XBone then later on the other platforms and now The Wither 3 collector’s edition has some additional content.

              • Snub La

As thry should because the game should not be delayed to it’s biggest fan base.DLC or extra items in a collector’s edition (which are always a rip off) are not the same, but every platform should be treated equal.

              • Six

                I’ll trade you the cards for a 10% discount because I own Witcher 2 on 360. :P

                • Kattaro

Thanks but you don’t have to I personally don’t care about this things and I am not going to cancel my preorder because I think is stupid as some people want to do :P

EDIT: There’s interesting fact when you could preorder collector’s edition in Poland you could do this by only one shop. And you could choose PS4, PC and Xbox One version. The first version unable to preorder was PC then PS4 and the last one was Xbox One (about one day later).

                • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Think MS will get any good exclusives in Japan?

                  • Six

I think they will, but they aren’t going to go around snatching up JRPGs like they did last gen.

Scalebound and D4 were pretty great gets for them, and I’m sure they won’t be the last.

                    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

                      Ok thanks

              • Orichalon Hades

additional content on an Collecter/Limited Edition is fine.

    WAIT

    wait wait wait

The CE comes with both the regular game case and the steelbook? Truly CDPR are gods among men. 〜( ̄▽ ̄〜)

    • BossTuff

      Seriously, steelbooks4lyfeyo

      • Six

I’ve never been much for steelbooks, but the one for this game is just gorgeous.

I’m glad I’ll have a nice steelbook to ogle and a regular case to place on my shelf.

        • BossTuff

Oh man, I always get the steelbook version if possible. My particular favs are the ME3, The Last of Us and Tales of Vesperia steelbooks, they’re clean and awesome.

          • Six

I could go for a nice Halo steelbook. The one for Halo 4 was pretty nifty looking.

Still kills me that The Master Chief Collection isn’t getting a CE/LE. :/ Hopefully they fix that with Halo 5. My Reach LE is pretty lonely.

          • Zackasaur

I’m right there with you. I love a good steelbook. The Beyond: Two Souls one is really nice, as well.

I just wish more steelbook editions came with the regular case as well. That would make my game library look a lot cleaner on my shelf.

            • Six

That’s the reason I avoid them for the most part. I like to have things uniform.

It’s also why if either Sony or MS start fiddling around with their boxart layouts again to the extent Sony did last gen I’m going to not be a happy camper. :P

              • Zackasaur

Haha, I keep my Spider-Man PS3 game boxes on the left side of my PS3 shelf.

                • Six

But then you have situations like how the first Uncharted has the Spider-Man font and Uncharted 2 and 3 have the newer layout.

How can you sleep at night. ._____.

                  • Zackasaur

That annoys me, but not as much as mixing the cases does… Let’s see if I can take a pic in my room for you.

                  • Zackasaur

Okay, took a couple quick pics. Sorry if they’re a bit blurry. You can see how my PS3 games are arranged.

                    A few notes:
-This certainly isn’t my whole game collection. I have other shelves around my room.
-It’s overcrowded because I actually need new shelves now…
-Yes, I collect gaming plushes. :3

                    • Six

Those Greatest Hits copies. The bane of my existence. :P

I went ahead and took a pic of my 360 collection. I do have a few PS2 and DS/3DS games, but this is the bulk of my collection.

Not a whole lot. (Really need to get a physical copy of Dark Souls II)

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

I’ll get this on Xbox One, it’ll probably be fine on PS4 but all those Skyrim PS3 issues make me weary

    • Six

The PS4 version is undoubtedly going to be superior to the Xbone version.

If PS4 is your platform of choice, you really should get it there.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        Oh ok

    • EspadaKiller

Nah the PS4 would be fine. And I’m betting that the PS4 version will ultimately run better than the Xbone too.

      • Six

Yup, it’s just a question of in what ways. Neither version is going to be a slouch, but PS4 is the more powerful platform.

Of course PC is obviously the best way to go if that option is available.

        • EspadaKiller

Yeah, the PC version will be the superior version. And that’s the platform I will be playing at for Witcher 3 too.

          • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

But you can’t put your leg in the air with a keyboard and mouse

            • EspadaKiller

Superior graphics and fps > comfort! >=((

              • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Lol, I was messing around. Used to play WoW for hours on end and didn’t need to put my leg in the air

          • Six

I would too, but I have the lower the settings on Painkiller in order to get it to run on my laptop. :P

I’ll just have to settle for a few decks of cards to console me while I’m jelly of those fur physics.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        Oh alright thanks

    • Zackasaur

The Witcher 3 will run better on PS4.

Skyrim actually has issues on every platform because Bethesda (different studio; Witcher is from CD Projekt Red and is a lot more competent) are bad programmers. The PS3 has a highly unique architecture, which presented far too much trouble for Bethesda’s bad programmers.

The PS4 is much easier for developers than the PS3. It’s actually easier than the Xbone, too. Plus, it’s over 50% more powerful.

You’re going to generally want any multiplats on PS4. This isn’t like last gen, where some were better on PS3 and others were better on 360.

    • shogunknight

…….Witcher developers didnt make skyrim :(

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        Duh, same genre

        • Zackasaur

The genre means… Nothing. It’s not like the PS3 magically had issues with WRPGs. Skyrim just wasn’t well made. Typical Bethesda.

          • Six

Supposedly it was the PS3’s split RAM. Of course, that isn’t an issue this time.

            • Zackasaur

The RAM was a definite issue for devs who didn’t understand how to use the Cell to supplement it. Naughty Dog were masters of that technique.

That’s really the nature of the PS3. If RAM/GPU were just used without skill, a game might be equal to or worse than a 360 version. But if the complicated Cell architecture was used well, output was insane. Naughty Dog, Guerilla Games, and Quantic Dream are some exclusive devs that really excelled there.

The original PS3 design didn’t even have a GPU at all, because the Cell could handle GPU tasks. Good thing Sony threw one in, though.

              • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

                Ahh thanks

            • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

              I see thanks

    • $1392518

The issues with Skyrim was from the way the PS3 forced a split usage 256mb/256mb of system/video memory. The system couldn’t deal the data changes within Skyrim and keep up accordingly.

PS4 has 8 gigs usable for both system and Video with no cap. So no real worry unless the W3 is insanly memory intensive on BOTH consoles

Plus, the infrastructure of the PS4 is closer to the 360 while the Xbone is closer to ps3. (Basically its easier to port PC, XBLA, 360 games to ps4)

Though, I am sure CD project Red is much more competent than the skyrim team

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        Nice, thanks for the explanation

  • rainelee

    :(
Already paid for the PS4 version. I wonder if I will be able to purchase the cards seperately somehow.

    • Zackasaur

      eBay, at the very least.

Pretty disappointed in CD Projekt Red for taking MS’ s money, but the cards are not going to make me get the weaker console version of the game. :P

      • Six

They’ll inevitably be tossed in a desk drawer anyway. :P I’ve had the Xbone version pre-ordered for a while now, this announcement isn’t really making me dance around with excitement.

I just want the artbook, statue, and that sexy steelbook because it reminds me of old Star Wars art.

        • Zackasaur

Yeah, it doesn’t really compare to the rest of the CE, which is genuinely awesome.

      • rainelee

Of course not, but it’s always nice to have some extra goodies. That and it seems like a pretty cool card game.

        • Zackasaur

Admittedly, I’m not super into card games these days.

If it’s any good, I’m sure people will upload it online. c:

      • 罪罰

        its just fucking cards

        • Zackasaur

Did I say anything less? The cards are not a big deal.

I’m more interested in what they symbolise. CD Projekt Red’s ethical standards aren’t as high as some fans make them out to be.

Mind, we already knew that. Remember the calendar?

          • Six

            No. What calender?

            • Zackasaur

The studio has an unfortunately sexist track record. The calendar is just one of many examples of objectification of their characters.

Hopefully the studio is becoming more mature and getting away from that stuff, though.

Sometimes CD Projekt Red are simply awesome, such as in their anti-DRM. Other times, they sink to low standards.

They make quality games either way, though!

              • BossTuff

There was also the Playboy issue with Triss I believe. In the end though, CDPR is most definitely one of my favorite devs.

                • Zackasaur

Yep, there was that as well. And the collectible cards.

Definitely a great team otherwise! I just hope they continue to mature while retaining what makes them special.

  • Locksus

    Baww baww
Gotta upgrade my PC when the game comes out. The game already looks phenomenal and looks by far the best game of 2015, hands down. Loved both Witcher games, definitely one of the best games of last gen

  • BossTuff

Cool for those who are getting the collectors edition. I ran out of room for statues so I just went with the normal edition, sucks I’ll miss out on that cloth map. :(

    ** edit **
Forgot which edition I ordered. :)

  • shogunknight

    They look good

  • pekot

    Timed exclusive ?

    • Six

Yup, in 6 months CPDR will send you your cards and cloth map in the mail.

    • Solomon_Kano

The Witcher 3: Complete Edition for Spring 2016 will feature all cards, plus an exclusive set of marbles to make it up to the PS4 and PC customers slighted by this horrifying oversight.

  • Learii

oh there a cards game now?

  • PrinceHeir

Now this is some godly collector’s edition stuff

  • Six

CDPR released a statement about this.

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-08-15-the-witcher-3-includes-gwent-a-hearthstone-esque-card-game

    Gotta love this bit:

“We are also providing special pre-order items for certain retailers around the world, including Witcher comic books, posters, steel books or medallions. Funnily enough, we did not notice any heated comments on the pre-order specials.”

    :P

    • BossTuff

I found the quote right after to be funnier:

“If you still consider that adding two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world to the Xbox One CE equals us betraying our values and not fulfilling our promises, well, it does make us sad, but the final call is always yours to make.”

      • Six

It’s pretty sad that they actually had to make a statement about this. It’s been known for a while now that they are partnering with Microsoft.

Better some cards, a map, and Kinect voice commands than “One hour of exclusive content only on Pla…Xbox” :P

        • BossTuff

I honestly don’t mind exclusive DLC either, but I think it would be good if it was available on all platforms. One example I’m thinking of that was sort of cool was Soul Calibur 2. Each platform had their own character, Link for the Gamecube, Heihachi for the PS2 and Spawn for the Xbox. I think if it were approached like it would be cooler.

However, I actually like this approach more than in game content. If a company is helping with the marketing and promotion of the game, then the developer can add trinkets that are specific to different editions of the game. It also gives incentives to get the higher tier editions to the diehard.

        • 罪罰

          hey, that’s my line!

  • Karysonson

Oh no!! PS4 and Pc prices should be lowered because they don’t get any of the collectible Pokemon cards!!!
    …..really people?

  • Mikail

Lol surely developer on this generation will get a lot benefit from Xbox One exclusivity deal, and sales benefit on PS4. Even PS4 will sells more then the Xbox version, Microsoft will still give a free money to the developer. People who laugh are the developer and the publisher, while fans of both consoles are in war, the game maker is having fun swimming on the money.

  • Lalum

Basically the right way to do this kind of thing, if you’re going to go with exclusive stuff. As long as it’s just physical goodies I’m good.

    • 罪罰

But wasn’t your gamer pride betrayed when a set of useless cards are not included in the package of the console of your choice? doesn’t it make your blood boil!?

      • Lalum

        I don’t have gamer pride.

  • DrForbidden

While I have no intention of buying an XBone, I can’t really say I’m surprised or outrage. Witcher 2 never made it to PS platforms. It was obvious from the get-go CDPR had closer ties to MS. Still, I’m disappointed PC gamers, who’ve supported CDPR from the first game, appear to be getting shafted.

  • Elle

I thinj PC players deserve this kind of extra stuff. You know, the people who made your franchise successful in the first place.

  • Martin Elisha

guys you know how it goes. ms pays cd project red money to get exclusive console selling content. it’s their desperate attempt to get money from you. ms is the comact of gaming industry. but the game is gonna be a good game on ps4 too so. whatever gaming device u have. your gonna love the game.

  • devilmaycry0917

the Witcher developer used to claim: “making platform exclusive in our games is against our value”, and now we see this.
money f**king talks after all lol
anyway, i will still get this game, but only when the price drops below $39.99
