Double Fine has released the first footage of Grim Fandango running on PlayStation 4.
We should note that, at its current stage of development, this is still the original Grim Fandango—not Grim Fandango Remastered.
The footage shows the classic version of the game running on the platform, which producer Mark Cooke describes as “really old and compressed using a super low resolution codec,” which is something the studio is “hoping to fix in the Remaster.”
The final version of the game is “going to be running at 1080p, all of the 3D models are going to look a lot nicer for pixel lighting,” and there will potentially be “some additional post-process effects.”
Cooke added, “Right now, we’re working off the original game files, which of course were really small and compressed for systems of their time. It still kind of depends on whether or not we get those original assets.”
