Tekken X Street Fighter

Tekken X Street Fighter isn’t cancelled, Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada assured at Comic-Con in San Diego today.

The crossover fighter is “still in development and it’s still moving forward,” Harada said at the Bandai Namco Fighting Games panel. But with Tekken Revolution, Soulcalibur: Lost Swords, Rise of Incarnates, and now Tekken 7, they have to find the right time to market and release it.

“It is proceeding. It hasn’t been cancelled, so please relax,” Harada said.

Thanks, Polygon.

  • Mr. Uncensored 2015

It’s probably coming at the earliest 2017.

    • Budgiecat

      thats too far away!

Is anyone actually looking forward to this?

    • Skerj

I am, I always thought it was the more interesting of the 2 crossovers. Adapting Tekken chars to Street Fighter is easy, bringing SF characters is damned interesting. Now give me my Sammy vs Capcom. ..

Not sure why people are being … is “cynical” the right term?

        • Solomon_Kano

Cynical would be the term, yea.

Dunno. At this point, cynicism feels like the internet’s default.

  • PrinceHeir

Was hoping Tekken X Dead or Alive, but this is good enough :P

    • SOforever

I want to see a Street Fighter X Dead or Alive game for some reason

  • The Grim Heaper

Don’t forget that they’re working on Smash as well.

  • Guy Incognito

After the disaster that was Street Fighter X DLC Tekken X Street Fighter needs to bring it.

Can I rather just have the money and not do anything?

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Since Namco is developing this I have more faith in them than the disaster that crapcom made with SFXT.

Plus Harada said he disagrees with the idea of Capcom’s business practices and feels that all on disc DLC characters should be “Free”. Can’t blame Harada since he left SFXT to Capcom and it had potential to be far better.

“Tekken Revolution, Soulcalibur: Lost Swords, Rise of Incarnates”

    those games can kick rocks..

  • Pyrofrost

Fucking Christ, this is like the Versus XIII of the fighting game genre.

    • Budgiecat

Where does Virtua Fighter 6 and Darkstalkers fall in then?

      • Pyrofrost

I don’t recall those being officially announced and supposedly in production.

      • Solomon_Kano

Right with Shemue 3 — nonexistent.

        • Budgiecat

          why you wanna hurt me

          • Solomon_Kano

            I’m not a cat person.

  • Elvick

I don’t mind waiting personally. I care more about Tekken 7.

I just want the game to be good when they finally do put it as a priority.

    • tokyobassist

You want a gem system and some fries with that?

  • SOforever

nice to hear that the game is still ALIVE

  • Elle

Now that Tekken 7 is coming, I have no desire for this anymore. Ready for the Tekken saga to move forward.

  • Lara Croft

I hope they release Tekken 3 on the PSN soon.

    • SOforever

Why aren’t more classics on PSN & Virtual Console??? it baffles me…

      • Elvick

Licensing. Problem is most publishers don’t tell us what is affected. So we can’t be sure it’s that all the time, but see know Megaman Legends 1 & 2, Tron Bonne, are affected. But not a ton of other stuff. Since publishers are assholes and don’t want to be upfront about this shit.

        Which is stupid to me.

        • tokyobassist

Was this the same issue with the Tobal games? I feel like I read something about that before.

    • http://www.di.fm Spicy Chicken

THIS. I modded my PSP just so I could play Tekken 3 on the move and it’s GLORIOUS. Still have my original PSOne disc and I treasure it, but would still happily repurchase it to play it natively on my PS3. Still don’t understand them not doing it. Tekken 1 and 2 are available but not the vastly superior 3? Hmmmmmmmm… >_>

EDIT: Plus it would be nice to have a proper PSN download for my PSP as well. Make it happen Namco!!!! >_<

  • PS Vita Roundup

    Hopefully still on Vita too!

If Harada manages to bring out a game that caters to both 2D and 3D players, I’ll have more than respect for the dude. The way Street Fighter x Tekken handled was horrid. It did nothing but throw in Tekken characters in a modified Street Fighter 4 engine and did nothing to cater to the 3D crowd at all.

    • Budgiecat

      you mean 3D movement?

What was worse was they barely felt like tekken characters gameplay wise even if it was stuck on a 2D line

      • tokyobassist

I meant as in catering to those familiar with mechanics in 3D games in general like sidestepping and such.

My one wish is for them to streamline the throw mechanics. I hate Tekken’s throw mechanics because expecting players to perform split second reactions to the corresponding hands to tech throws is just stupid. No other game over complicates teching throws the way Tekken does. Only game I can’t throw tech in.
