Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord

Atlus is bringing Aquaplus’ Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord to North America on October 14 and Europe on November 11, the company announced.

Both will be retail releases, with NIS America handling distribution duties in Europe.

The turn-based strategy RPG, which will launch at $39.99, will include 80+ hours of gameplay and the original Japanese audio with localized English text.

Find a story summary, features list, and the opening movie below. View the first set of English screenshots at the gallery.

Story

Tears to Tiara II follows Hamilcar Barca, a young man eking his way through life indentured to the Divine Empire. But when the Empire burns an innocent girl at the stake, he unleashes a terrible secret-his unbridled rage and demonic might of the berserker. With his newfound strength, and the insistence of a goddess, Hamilcar shoulders the burden of freeing his people from the tyranny of a corrupt Empire. On his journey to free himself and his enslaved people, he will fight alongside powerful allies, beasts, and even the gods themselves. However, he must control the demon within first, lest he himself turns the world to ash.

Key Features

  • More than 15 main characters to get to know as the story unfolds in visual novel style. From a timid lad who hides an intense hatred within to a crude war goddess who’s never seen the earth below, characters will meet, forge relationships and alliances, and get pushed to their limits in the quest to free themselves from the Divine Empire.
  • Strategic turn-based gameplay will challenge the most battle-hardened generals with its combat. Use your allies, and even giant creatures, to help turn the tide in battle.
  • Joint Attacks, Consecutive Strikes, and Boost Magic mechanics add extra depth to the strategy gameplay and make for more replayability.
  • Original Japanese story and battle audio.

So the publisher is finally revealed, and it’s who we expected it to be. XD[Siliconera had mentioned this a bit a while ago, but never mentioned the publisher]

  • AkumaSoul

Atlus? Yay! I love you Atlus!

  • http://twitter.com/Sieghardt Sieghardt

Oh wow only $40? awesome, really happy to see this come over, we need more SRPGs

  • desponent

Nice! Shine brightest at the end PS3!

    • Budgiecat

which makes the PS4 all the more depressing..

we’re gonna have to wait till 2020 and beyond for good Japanese PS4 games coming out consistantly lol

      • orzorzorz

that’s good news for those of us who don’t feel like buying a PS4 yet at least

        • Budgiecat

lol yeah just be content waiting 6 years….nope nope

          • orzorzorz

6 years? so its either buy a PS4 now or wait exactly 6 years? interesting

            • Budgiecat

I said “2020” (which is 6 years from now) and you responded with “thats good news” since you don’t feel like buying one now, so yeah that’s interesting all right lol

              • orzorzorz

not all of us exclusively play japanese games, you know. most of us just don’t want to blow our money on a reserve for upcoming games when the good upcoming games are still pre-alpha with no release window.

so yeah, good news and very interesting

                • Budgiecat

who said anything about exclusive? And why would you then wait that long if you’re not playing Japanese games exclusively?

                  lol your logic really sucks..

                  • orzorzorz

you said we would have to wait until 2020 to get good Japanese games, i said that’s good news for those of us who don’t feel like buying a PS4 yet. you followed that up with “having to wait” 6 years /because/ of waiting for good Japanese games. i then said not all of us only play Japanese games, aka wouldn’t have to wait 6 years. the reason way i’d wait is because (refer to the previous post, you aren’t worth copying and pasting for).

i don’t get what’s so hard for you to understand here but i’ll assume its lack of sleep/oxygen for your sake.

      • desponent

I don’t think it matter either way, Japan is just that far off the deep end.

        • Budgiecat

          wont you save them?

          • desponent

Maybe if I have billions of dollars, want to donate?

            • Budgiecat

              I have a few quarters laying around…

  • Comandante Bushido

    Sold

  • Yaro

Atlus and jap audio? Holy smokes, times are looking up.

    • PrinceHeir

Atlus US only does JPN only audio if it’s a niche game.

If they have the money, i won’t be surprise if they push ENG Dub here and remove the JPN audio completely.

They are a dub only company after all.

      • Renaldi Saputra

        Conception II?

      • Kumiko Akimoto

There have been a lot of niche games they’ve done dubs for

  • Chaos King

Hell yeah. Will definitely get this game.

  • Renaldi Saputra

so my guessing was right, it’s Atlus USA

    • Budgiecat

this also practically deconfirms any assumptions that Sega would allow Atlus to localize any of their own games just because they own em now. Even though there’s no doubt in my mind a localized Yakuza 5 would sell more than this.

Hell, a localized tears to tiara 1 (old PS3 game) would sell more..

      • Kumiko Akimoto

        How?

        • Budgiecat

          how wut?

          • Kumiko Akimoto

How would the first game do better then this?

            • Budgiecat

              because its the better game….

              • Kumiko Akimoto

                Based on your opinion?

                • Budgiecat

and all celestial beings in the universe

                  • Kumiko Akimoto

                    That’s cute

              • Mark Lengod

Looks better indeed. They chibified the sequel for no reason, lol.

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpw10R4Ck0U

Even stranger is the fact that the original PC release played similar to Growlanser, a mix of RTS and RPG without grids, but the PS3 remake/sequel looks just like common SRPGs.

                • Budgiecat

Its like Sony’s 3rd party answer to Fire Emblem

then this inferior poopy poo sequel had to come out

      • Renaldi Saputra

        I don’t know
Aquaplus titles are very niche in the west

  • Anime10121

Buying for the art (hoping the game is actually good), as I LOVE Aqua Plus’ designs!

    • Kiryu

You can try the japanese PSN store demo.

  • Budgiecat

of all games why this one?

    • 罪罰

      waahh jacuzzi

      • Budgiecat

        wah? jacuzzi? Where??

    • Kumiko Akimoto

      why not?

      • Budgiecat

        because there’s far better ones?

        • Kumiko Akimoto

But that doesn’t make this not good? This is a good series and while there’s plenty of other good series they could have chosen that doesn’t lessen the quality of this.

          • Budgiecat

It robs us of a better series we COULD be getting instead…you know….sucking up localization resources and all…

            • Kumiko Akimoto

Not really this is a good series so I’m not seeing the problem.

    • osa

Do you ever NOT complain about something?

      • Budgiecat

        I never complain about you!

        • PrinceHeir

          Touche!

  • Ladius

I’m really happy Atlus managed to localize Tears to Tiara 2, its plot looks interesting and since the game was co-developed by Aquaplus and Sting I think it will end up being a nice tactical jrpg.

It’s a shame Aquaplus didn’t manage to secure localizations deals for the first Tears to Tiara’s remake or for Avalon no Nazo, but at least this deal means there could be a chance to see Utawarerumono 2 in the west too. On that note, I hope the development of that game is going on steadily since almost nothing is known about it.

  • new_tradition

Kind of interested. It looks nice, but it’s coming out when I’m buying other games D:

  • orzorzorz

physical copies of an undubbed SRPG localized by atlus and NISA screams “day one buy”

  • Elvick

Wish it were on Vita. Would’ve been a nicefit, glad it’s coming west though.

  • osa

    I like this trailer:)

  • http://hatintime.com/ ShadowFang

This game looks rad. The Strategy-RPG nature of it is something we definitely don’t get enough of on consoles. Glad Atlus is bringing it Westward; my PS3 will appreciate it :)

I wonder if this means Atlus is looking at localizing more Aquaplus stuff then? Between Aquapazza and now this, they definitely seemed to have taken an interest in them.

    • Renaldi Saputra

But to be exact, they won’t localize any full VN without gameplay, especially based on anime

  • BizarreJelly

Another sequel without the first, strange.

  • PrinceHeir

Wow it’s also coming one day after my B-day XD

    Awesome!

    • Martian Wong

Lucky you, I remember Catherine from Atlus came out on my birthday! But I didnt get it as a gift though…..

    • Mar Mar

Three days after my B-Day XD

  • Naygen

Is this related to the first one?

    • JeremyTMH

Yes, but rather loosely. Same world. References appear later in story and fans of the first will enjoy it more if they had played the 1st game. However this game’s story is pretty stand alone as well.

      • Naygen

        Thank you very much :)

  • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

so many games in oct. wish it was sept already. i might get back into tactics games, this one looks good. wish the stats were higher but maybe by lv50 everyone’ll have 3 digits or 4 of hp. i’m a sucker for freedom fighting too. good chara designs too.

  • Jesse Case

I saw the first game, never played it myself just saw gmaeplay but it looked really cool, now this looks really good too.
now i did see the anime, and that was good. I really liked it.
I really hope they make another anime of this awed off the second game, because Id be so happy
