Tales of Zestiria

The latest Tales of Zestiria screenshots show off newly revealed characters Maltran and Bartlow, as well as map actions, real map battles, and following characters.

We detailed most of what you’ll see in today’s images via a magazine report last week. But you’ll also see a few new locations like Forquen Hill and and Risuizol Hollow.

Additionally, we’ve got some specific map actions–actions players will be able to perform while exploring on the field. Get them below.

  • Sword Swing – You can swing your sword to clear obstacles such as spider webs and ivy on the field.
  • Silver Flame – With Lailah in your party, you can ignite a Silver Flame in dungeons.
  • Cloak of Ghost Fog – With Mikleo in your party, you can put up a barrier that makes its difficult for enemies to notice you. Your running speed will slightly decrease, however.
  • Chief’s Wrist – With Edna in your party, you can use this skill to destroy rocks blocking the road, opening new paths.
  • Swift Teleport – With Dezel in your party, you can use this to teleport forward. This is useful if you’re in a cliff-like area where there is a gap between grounds.

Regarding real map battles, a new system in which battles take place where you run into enemies, rather than transition to a battle screen, the screenshots show fights in the Vivia Water Ruins and Lake Pillow Highlands. Because the environment affects the fight, it is recommended you consider where you engage.

          Yeah it sucks, but dem’s the breaks! At the very least… they are trying to get better! This’ll be the first time a Tales of game has released in the same year since Vesperia :P

    For your information, Maltran & Bartlow have their official romanization at official site

    as well as other character have their english romanization up on their respective page

      Thank god those aren’t the official localized names[hopefully]; Sorey sounds silly, and Arisha sounds like Engrish. 8U

            yeah, at least Alisha sounds better than Arisha engrish hahaha

            i think they’ll change in english ver later, and hopefully not something like KOR METEOR right?

              Eh, I can live with Kor Meteor; at least the mineral and heart theme is still there. I don’t think “Sorey” has any important meaning to it. ^^;

      Ooo, they finally started adding romanizations to the website. I remember at first, they didn’t have them. Time to do some updating.

        @salromano:disqus Hi, this is totally off topic, but I wanted to make you aware of it. I don’t know if this is the sort of thing you can control or somehow fix on your end.

        The articles are having the wrong thumbnail when shared on social media networks such as FB. It used to be something that almost never happened; but, it has been occurring regularly lately, so I thought I would let you know.

        Is there any way this can possibly be fixed?

      Thanks for the find, though I will have to offer a slight correction. As of now, these are the Japanese romanizations, not English.

      With that said, they can still be altered during the localization process. This is like the romanizations that appear in the JP Tales instruction manuals.

      I am almost 100% certain that スレイ will not be romanized as Sorey in the localization.

      Please don’t take this as me slamming you or something though, I mean no disrespect; and, thanks again for the find. ^_^

        before the localization name is out, i think we should use official romanization from japan from now…

        yes, localization pretty much will change, and hopefully not that far off from the actual name of it.. still dislike how they change Shing to Kor Meteor though

      we can assume yes, her profile in official site lacks “weapon” and don’t have character designer listed on right corner below, while the others include Zaveid (previously Zavida/Zabiida) have them

    Looks like only one member follows you on the field map..

    So the others just magically teleport in when a battle happens?

      There is no solid information about that. Judging by those screenshots I can assume it’s still early in the game with only Sla—I mean, Sorey (Whoops! Sorey about that), and Alisha as well.

        I haven’t been following the story much but aren’t some specific character ‘partners’ not ‘seen’ by other allies? Seems like that could be used as an excuse to only have one team member follow you on the field…

        you say ‘its early’ but I see four avatar faces in that one battle screenshot in the HUD….

          I’m not talking about early in development, but early in the actual game/plot! What if those shots were taken after SOREy meets Alisha? That was my point.

          Oh right that’s true about Humans and The Divine. But, in the end, everyone will be able to see everyone, so that could change later on. Or maybe you can have 4 party members on-screen, but Divine members will turn “invisible” if Alisha or any other Human yet to be announced (I hope; Kamui sake!) are between them (Though I doubt Bamco would bother doing this).

            I said all four were shown in the HUD on screen, and Slay or whatever, is rockin his blue jacket in all of the screenshots, which leads me to believe the screenshots are all closely chronologically connected and it is indeed early in the game plot before he gets that ugly white suit…

            ^ thats kinda what I meant. the Divine show up in battle, but on the field map, only show up if you’re controlling their ‘partner’ or if there’s a cutscene..

            anyways, it’s weird. Need to see more info…
            I would like to be proven wrong though, and this not being some lame attempt at cutting design and making shortcuts to facilitate ease in programming and hiding it all by weaving it into the storyline… -_-

              Can’t you wear off that cape freely anytime? If so, what if Shota just met Alisha, and Namco decided to turn his cape off and then upload the image? BUT wait, that cape is plot-related, so maybe he gets it later.

              Ok I give up. Let’s just wait and hope they didn’t screw up Co-op this time around.

    I don’t get it. To date they still haven’t said much about Arisha. Not her powers or what she does on the map either like that state for others here. Maybe it’s a big secret that’s tied to the plot.
