The final title of the rumored Assassin's Creed: Comet?

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Swiss retailer World of Games has listed something called “Assassin’s Creed: Rogue” for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The listings have since been removed, but not before Google Cache managed to save a copy.

Before Assassin’s Creed: Unity was announced, a second Assassin’s Creed, code-named Assassin’s Creed: Comet, was rumored for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. With Gamescom coming up, it’s likely we’ll hear about it soon.

Thanks, @lifelower.

I think Comet and Rogue are one in the same in terms of the final product.

And they didn’t break this out at e3 because?….

All the third party conferences were bad but this would’ve helped Ubi’s a little bit.

    • Impressionnant

      Gamescom, maybe.

    • Zackasaur

      I really liked Ubisoft’s conference. D:

  • Audie Bakerson

Ubisoft really wants to squeeze the last drop of money out of this IP don’t they?

Sales of 4 were way down from previous games, and it’s only going to keep dropping.

    • DeadnBuried

Black Flag may not have sold as much as AC3, but that’d likely because 3 was a huge disappointment for most, and some just didn’t want to give 4 a chance after that, despite it being infinitely better. And it’s still sold millions of copies, as well as having a much better reception from fans, so it’s not like it was a massive failure indicative of the forthcoming end of the franchise’s success. AC3 sold a good 12+ million and AC4 was over 10million last time I checked, so it’s still hugely successful.

And funnily enough, whilst Unity doesn’t have a lot of hype going for it yet (the boring setting and lead character, I’d imagine), this Comet/Rogue is reportedly more a Black Flag 2, which people would go nuts for, that pirate setting was fantastic.

      • Audie Bakerson

Remember we live in a world where a game CAN sell “millions” and still lose money.

        • DeadnBuried

Oh, absolutely, but I don’t think Ubisoft are too bad in that regard. They have a lot of studios working on each of these games, but I’ve still not heard them complaining that they didn’t sell enough or that they didn’t make a profit.

          • Audie Bakerson

Yes, but it’s very doubtful it the sales will go UP from Black Flag instead of downward.

I think it’s more about releasing a game for PS3/360. Still a huge install base on those console, and not everyone has jumped ship to PS4 or XB1 yet. Also, no backwards compatibility, so lots of people who have jumped ship still own the PS3/360/both.

It would be a silly business decision to not release some kind of Assassins Creed game with that huge install base. That’s why so many publishers still release new games on both old and new consoles.

      • Audie Bakerson

I agree It would be silly to not do it when the shelf life is so limited. I’m just saying it does not indicate Ubisoft thinks highly of AC’s long term viability after 5.

There’s a VERY distinct difference between release patterns for long term, multi generation names and things that disappear after 1 and a half and EVERYTHING about AC says its the second.

        • Zero

I’m not sure I agree, but oh well.

    • NegativeZero

I’d still rather them have this approach, one game for the old systems and one for the new one, than a single game made for both platforms. Means that they can actually evolve the engine and everything a bit for the newer platforms, they aren’t stuck designing around what they can squeeze onto decade-old hardware.

      • Audie Bakerson

Oh its better, but having multiple games with the same gameplay style (instead of clear spinoffs) released right next to eachother does HORRIBLE things for a franchise’s shelf life.

  • PrinceHeir

Now if they can make an Assassins Creed Japan and China that will make me come back to the series one more time.

Stop playing after AC2. Shit is getting ridiculous every game, especially the lol story.

    • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

Wow! I thought I was the only one who stopped playing the AC series after AC 2. And yes, they need to step up their stuff!

      • Zackasaur

They already have stepped up since ACII… And AC Unity looks bloody incredible.

I was actually optimistic hoping they would end their Animus story after 3, when they didn’t I almost threw the controller to the floor and condemned the series for milking.

  • Zackasaur

Well, I’ll buy it if it happens!

But I’d rather it at least be cross-gen… I am sooooo glad that AC Unity is current-gen only.
