      Youkai Watch 2 stronk!

most likely we will see sonipro, senran kagura 2, medarot 8, and many 3DS game being bombed

I don’t understand your logic, normally people who buy Senran Kagura has more money to burn than average people who buy Yokai Watch, Pokemon, [insert another multi million sellers]

Welp I sorta remember Sony saying something about Oreshika 2 being their litmus test for jrpg’s and I’m guessing those sales just killed the genre in their eyes T.T

Beyond that… Capcom and SE need to get on getting actual content out on consoles as those look incredibly bleak :(

    • Elvick

If that’s the case, they’re fools. They should do an IP that people care about. No offensive to Oreshika. :P Like, idk… Dark Cloud 3 or something.

Sony is derpy sometimes though. So I can see them make some stupid call like that based on something pointless.

      • phayroent

How does one commenters opinion make Sony fools? He doesn’t work for them, that he said anyway, so him thinking that he knows what Sony thinks on those numbers means nothing in that context. Makes you more of a fool for assuming.

      • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

        No, really really down.

        • Anime10121

Not THAT bad :/ I just looked it up, and on average, the PS3 versions did do roughly about 60k, but it still did better than Rarona (only marginally, but still).

I think its an overreaction to say that it bombed, as the series has never been THAT successful to begin with…

Now Ar Nosurge? THAT game did bad, it didtnt even pull 30k first week, but I honestly dont see this one as being THAT bad. Definitely a sign they need to move on from the Dust series though… And also a sign that the male protagonist isnt the cause of the slight decline in Escha&Logy sales over Ayesha…

          • Anime10121

Welp, looks like I was wrong, thought I saw that Rarona opened at 42k but I’m wrong, argument has been defeated/ko’d/knocked da fuk out! :P

    • Pyrofrost

I’m still waiting patiently for the next “Iris” type Atelier.

      • kurosan9712

Shallie is your game, lol. It is Iris type shit.

        • Pyrofrost

I don’t know, I’ve been keeping up with it and it seems to be still following the Dusk thematic rather than Iris, minus the time management aspect.

In addition, if they wanted to significantly change aspects, I would have preferred that they started a saga doing such, rather than waiting till the end of one.

All that aside, by your recommendation, I will keep an eye on this one. Thank you for responding.

          • kurosan9712

If you mean it’s not a part of Mana saga(to which Iris and Mana Khemia belong) – they won’t make a new chapter of it. It ended.
They tend to make NEW chapters, rather than continue previous ones. Else I’d want Alchemist of Gramnad 3 and Alchemist of Salburg 4.

            • Pyrofrost

I wasn’t talking about continuing an old saga.

I was stating that if they wanted to make a drastic turn in gameplay of any kind, I felt that would have been better kept for a new saga, rather than sticking it to the end of a saga.

In this context, I am simply saying I’m not in favor of them waiting till the end of the Dusk saga to attempt releasing a game drastically altering the thematic or the gameplay (ie: Shallie); and, I would have preferred them starting a NEW saga doing that.

    • Elvick

Franchise fatigue. They need to take a break for awhile. Do something else for awhile. Move to PS4 with something people really want from them. Then get back to Atelier after.

      edit; what was Logy?

      • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

PS4 exclusive would be a disaster right now for Gust

      • kurosan9712

      • Alter

Clearly they/we need Atelier Action RPG spin-off. I always like Compile Heart works because they trying to rotate the formula. From Turn based RPG -> Idol game -> Strategy RPG -> Action RPG -> etc. Gust should try the same.

Ouch lowest selling new gen Atelier yet, still better than khemia 2 but they really should start experimenting. :/

Wonder what happen to their Vita game…

          • Luna Kazemaru

sony wasn’t pushing the vita at all that time and not many people had one

          • kurosan9712

They really should STOP experimenting, if they want better sales.

            • desponent

Like they did during ps2 era, found a winning formula then remain stagnant til it bombed so hard on their face. That worked so well.

There’s probably no right answer here maybe they would be better off with another uguuu atelier or maybe it’a time to go back to classic JRPG or something else. Only one way to find out.

Still interested with their vita project but there are no more news about it lately.

              • kurosan9712

Shallie IS classic JRPG, and it bombed.

There was no really winning formula on PS2.
                Iris/MK bombed hard in Japan.
                Judie/Viorate/Lilie sold moderately.

The real winning formula would be the Arland series(which we can see being the top of Atelier sales chart). But continuing it just isn’t GUST style.
They’ll probably start a new sub-series, a duology this time, after Shallie.

                • desponent

Iris was a success that’s why they stuck with it so long despite it being nothing like early atelier. If iris bombed they would have not continue making it conversely we’d have MK3 if they were fine with the series bombed.

I don’t believe you, all the info I’ve read on Shallie point that the gameplay is more like ps3 atelier with central hub than classic go here then there. And lots of moeshit.

                  • kurosan9712

You may not believe me, but it is.
The time limit is removed, the battle system is the very same one that Iris 3/MK2 used.

Just watch some streams or something. LL streams it, I think.

Iris bombed hard in Japan, but was more or less successful in the west. But as GUST said – they are making games for JAPANESE audience mainly(in one of the interviews 1 or 2 years ago), which is one of the reasons they stopped doing it.

MK3 didn’t come to exist for one single reason – the structure of the series. And it will never come to exist, now that the Mana saga is finished. Thankfully.
Twillight sub-series broke it, for this or that reason, but until then it went in a 3-2 fashion. 3 Salburg games, 2 Grammnad games, 3 Iris games, 2 MK games, 3 Arland games.

                    • desponent

That’s small part of the game, it still doesn’t make it a classic rpg in my book. Heck, there are claasic rpg with time limit and battle (far) simpler than MK.

Damn now I want to play Shallie if the battle system really like iris 3/mk but I know I wouldn’t be able to stand the character, the story and the way the game want you to progress, oh well.

                    • kurosan9712

Well, if it’s not classic RPG for you, then none of the Atelier games ever were(probably it’s for the best, however).

                    • desponent

Iris 1, 2 were and while iris 3 to MK2 only have single hub they have overaching major plot and a whole lot less of moesh. Don’t really care with semantic but that’s what I’m looking on atelier game missing nowadays (not arguing that my idea is better than yours by the way, this is subjective).

Now I can have hopes they WON’T make another crap like this.
Then again, remembering Iris-Mana Khemia chain, they can still continue for 3-4 more games like that…gods I hate this world.

Btw, on JPN Amazon, players mainly leave 1 star comments about it, so yeah, I knew it’s just not going to be good. Players want the OLD Atelier, like Marie/Elie/Lilie etc., not this NEW Atelier Gust thinks they want.

      RAAAAAGE

    • FTM

I’m not too surprised, to be honest. I think the choice of a demo was a poor call for Oreshika, because it really was just not on the level of what the screenshots made the game out to be. It looks alright— but it’s not the visual masterpiece everyone thought it to be.
Gameplay is pretty static too, but I’m sure I was missing out on quite a bit as my Japanese isn’t so hot.
Either way— I don’t really know if the inconsistent sales of the Vita have something to do with it, but for me it’s just that the demo was such a bummer, and which is why I will neither be importing nor buying locally.

    • desponent

So uh about 300 less? PANIC

      • bloodiOS

Doing worse than a remake (more like a remaster) of the original PS1 game isn’t anything to be proud of, no matter how small the difference in sales is.

Forget it, I just personally wanted the game to sell more than 100,000 copies in first week. I’m a bit disappointed that it didn’t.

            • desponent

To put things into perspective :
              1. The psp game is a “remake” of a 12 years old game by the time it came out. It’s pretty much a new game by that point.
              2. Psp userbase in 2011 humongously dwarf Vita userbase now.
              3. I dunno about you but I think 94K is a pretty good number and sony are probably pleased.
              4. If the game gain enough buzz it could sell for much more later on, this is rare but it could happen.

              • bloodiOS

Well, I hope they are pleased with it…

Same for Atelier Shallie, btw, it is getting slammed by japanese players(much to my enjoyment)

                  • MrFinalgamer

That’s an…odd complain. I don’t certainly see how that would make the game a 2/10…

                    • kurosan9712

Well, you see, players don’t feel they are important in the game.
They feel that Nueko is the Mary Sue of the game, and it’s even more awful than one can imagine, it seems.
To me it’d be sufficient not to play the game at all(and I’m not. I could buy it, but I decided that I won’t be able to take playing with THAT camera angle in battle, so I didn’t).

                    • Luna Kazemaru

its funny no one made this complain in god eater since tbh your fucking character was there and silent 99% of the time the only people who developed and who the story focused on where the people you worked with.

                  • Luna Kazemaru

its getting slammed for simply a silly reason nothing gameplay related or bugs.

                    > Much to your enjoyment

What are you a child because its really seems like you are if you enjoy watching games getting bashed on for no reason.

                    • kurosan9712

No, there is reason enough for me to enjoy them getting bashed.
Shallie isn’t the traditional Atelier I like(and seems that guys on Amazon agree with me. A lot of complaints about time limit removal along those 1 stars), it’s full of bugs, it’s boring(a lot of comments of people who only played it to see mature Escha in ch.4).
As for OreShika 2 – after the demo, I didn’t care what will happen to it. I already felt it was inferior to PSP remake of original.

                    • Luna Kazemaru

so basically its I am enjoying them getting bashed on because I don’t like them..ok yeah so mature. I don’t see how a time limited removal warrants a 1 start but then again I don’t cry about minor change’s when the core gameplay is still the same

                    • kurosan9712

Well, for us it is very important, because it’s not minor.
Time Management IS the core gameplay of the series since it started, but of course you don’t know about it, and will never know about it, as Gust said they won’t be making remakes of Salburg/Gramnad sub-series, because it would cost too much, and isn’t needed anyways.

                    • Luna Kazemaru

I like how you are assuming i never played any atelier game before but ok. For the record I have always found alchemy to be a bigger part of the game

                    • kurosan9712

I don’t really care what YOU found to be a “bigger part”.
But I’m really glad JP guys agree with me on time management being really important to the series.

                    • Luna Kazemaru

Yes I know its hard to accept other people opinions for children don’t worry we are done speaking.

How do you know it didn’t? Media create doesn’t track digital sales

              • bloodiOS

Okay, allow me to clarify. I wanted the game to sell 100,000 copies as tracked by Media Create.

    • MrFinalgamer

Well, it isn’t THAT big of a difference, but still…hopefully the game has some decent legs, so Sony can consider doing more JRPGs (and at this rate, the game is doomed to a download only future in the west).

  • desponent

    Oreshika <3

  • desponent

By the way, didn’t notice that golden charted again, anime/marie strong (though it’s largely because how pitiful software sales in japan right now).

  • TheBlackRabbit

ugh how are these atelier games selling so low?

    • kurosan9712

      1) Strong title is on the market
      2) It’s not what people want it to be
      3) it’s crap(considering what I read on my twitter, it’s not only crap game-wise, it’s also filled with bugs, freezes and such things. Still not fixed, it seems).

    • Luna Kazemaru

Because when a game releases with some game breaking bugs and hasn’t been fixed ofc its going to sell pretty bad gust slow on the patch.

Other then that from what I saw on LL’s stream the game pretty nice I just hope the bugs are patched out before i buy it.

      • TheBlackRabbit

same here…i was watching it yesterday an it looked fine….how much do these sell in the western market?

        • Luna Kazemaru

I don’t think they sell THAT much but I would hope the game gets patched before they even think of a western release

          • TheBlackRabbit

do they sell more than japan recently? because i really can’t imagine why they would continue down a road of self destruction like this…unless they were making money anyway.

            • Luna Kazemaru

              Self destruction?

              • TheBlackRabbit

i’m just being dramatic for the hell of it, XD. but anyway my question pls?

                • Luna Kazemaru

I would guess they sell more then Japan CH games also seem to do the same it seems

      • Pyrofrost

Almost sounds like the release of Zero no Kiseki Evolution a couple of years ago. >_<
It took Falcom a little while to get the patch out for that.

Hopefully they get around to fixing it soon. I would hope TK wouldn't allow Gust to rest on their laurels with this.

      • http://hatintime.com/ ShadowFang

Didn’t Yokai Watch 2 ship with a game-breaking bug that required a day 1 patch?

        http://www.siliconera.com/2014/07/09/pick-yo-kai-watch-2-patch-playing/

        It sold 800k+ BEFORE release.

        And oh yeah, Battlefield 4

Some gamers – a vocal minority, clearly – love to complain about glitches on the internet. By and large, that never affects sales numbers.

There are other reasons for low sales numbers here. Beyond the usual, “Japan; your numbers suck” I mean… ;)

  • $61526767

Wow, persona 4 golden is still selling? I’m impressed. Been keeping an eye on Atelier Shallie. Don’t know much about the series, but the game seems cool to enjoy.

    • kurosan9712

Persona 4 just got a 1000 or so yen discount on PSN. Might’ve drawn some sheeps to buy it.

      • novurdim

you do understand that this are retail sales which don’t include psn?

        • kurosan9712

Oh, missed that point. I always forget Media Create tracks only retail sales.
Well, maybe they did some kind of discount for physical editions too, who knows.

        • Fefen Ardiansyah

that being said, there are probably an increase in digital sales as well

    • Geebun

Persona 4 Golden is selling because of the Persona 4 Golden Anime that started a few weeks ago.

  • shogunknight

Nice hold up for YW. Good opening for Oreshika too. Hardware sales went down but still ok. PS4 :(

  • Elle

Atelier folks should probably should slow down after this. Go back to the drawing board and think how to reinvigorate the series. Especially if they plan to move the series to PS4 or start a new trilogy.

    • http://hatintime.com/ ShadowFang

They should also reconsider their strategy of re-releasing stuff and getting out >1 game a year, if you ask me. I feel like it’s hard for any new game to feel like “an event release” when it’s always within a 6-8 month window from the previous release.

Of course, this is Tecmo-Koei. I’m certain they REALLY wanted this franchise to work via their patented “Musou game cycle”.

At any rate, weak sales over there means good things for us! Tecmo-Koei will keep releasing Gust’s games abroad to try and pump up those sales numbers. I can’t wait for Shallie to hit NA :D

  • 罪罰

I remember when youkai watch was revealed and everybody said it would be a waste on 3ds and better be on Vita. Time flies by.. and history repeats.

    • MrKappa

That could of been true but developers don’t want to chance anything on the Vita when they can just get away with the 3DS.
Then again Vita users always want everything for the Vita so they’ll always be saying that.

  • AdamBoy64

So, did Wii Sports Club get a retail release in Japan? Or are they tracking digital sales now too?

    • http://hatintime.com/ ShadowFang

      Retail release.

Japan’s slower-than-the-rest-of-the-world adoption of digital releases means a lot of games that are digital here get retail releases over there. And not just stuff like, say, One Piece: Unlimited World Red or Battle Princess of Arcadia. Strider did too, for a great recent example.

Wii Sports Club is most valuable to Nintendo as a retail release in Japan. So that’s the treatment it got.

No digital sales tracked, I’m afraid. Not that I think it would boost most of these games’ sales…

      • AdamBoy64

Righteo. If they’ve put a retail release out for Wii Sports Club.. that might also mean – they’re not planning on adding any extra sports to the game from here on.

        Hopefully that’s not the case.
        Thanks for the explanation.

  • Hidayat246

Persona 4 Golden back to chart must be because the anime version airing now
