The Mako will return in the next Mass Effect, BioWare confirmed at its San Diego Comic-Con panel today.
The vehicle, which debuted in the original Mass Effect, is faster this time around. BioWare said it’s building a game about exploration, and thus, requires a vehicle for fast travel.
The story this time around, as previously stated, won’t involve Mass Effect trilogy hero Commander Shepard. Rather, it will tell a brand new story. But BioWare teased you may see a bit of old with the new—meaning old characters may reappear. Even so, the developer seemed to strongly imply that new Mass Effect will be set in completely different galaxy, but will contain familiar elements.
The next Mass Effect is going for the “spiritual successor” vibe. The team wants to give the players “as much choice as possible,” and with the Frostbite 3 Engine, the animation team is doing stuff it wasn’t able to before.
Multiplayer will stick around, it seems. The team said that while competitive multiplayer is critical, “cooperation is bigger for us.”
Finally, the next Mass Effect has yet to be titled, but the team again confirmed that, no, it won’t be called Mass Effect 4. (But we’ll tag it that until we get an actual name.)
Thanks, NeoGAF.
