Game Informer's August cover story revealed.

2K Games and Borderlands series developer Gearbox Software have announced Battleborn, a new “hero-shooter” for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that combines “frenetic” first-person shooting with co-op combat, and an “expansive” collection of diverse heroes.

The game is set in the distant future, where the only hope for the last star in a dying universe is a new breed of warriors who must put aside their differences to drive back an unstoppable menace. Players will choose from a “myriad” of heroes and fight together in a narrative-driven co-op campaign, or battle against each other in “fast-paced” competitive multiplayer matches.

Game Informer this month has a 12-page cover story on the new title, which is “packed” with screenshots, impressions, and details straight from Gearbox. The magazine says the game “takes the minion smashing and fast leveling often associated with MOBAs and injects it into an intergalactic first-person battle arena.”

A release date was not announced.

I dunno. I’m not going to jump to “lol moba lol nope” like everyone on NeoGAF is, but I’ll need to see more.

I love the trailer though, and Borderlands is one of my favorite series, so I’ll keep an eye on it.

A first person moba game, also the first moba on console i think. Gameplay in gamescom maybe?

Edit: I hope it has Offline single player

Hopefully the co-op campaign can be done with AI, or even done solo like in Borderlands.

Yeah, and lets hope the game has a lot of levels. I would have thought the Battleborn may be similar to the Unreal Tournament games but since MOBA is already said in the statement, thats a different thing entirely

Well, that’s just the multiplayer. I wouldn’t be surprised if the campaign is a more Borderlands-ish affair, but with up to 5 players instead of 4.

        Oh yeah, forgot about that

        • Varnes

Also forgot about Guardians of Middle Earth

Thank you, it seems i was clearly wrong about this. Their presence is probably whats encouraging more ftp or moba games, well that and games like warframe and loadout

  • DesmaX

    New Borderlands, or new Moba

A Moba game on consoles could be interessing, to be honest

    Combat looks delayed

Probably should wait for a gameplay trailer that isn’t in slow-motion and cut with cinematic camera angles.

  • rainelee

Title reminded me of Skyrim for some reason.

    LoL shootan.
Fuckdamn Gearbox you’re a genius, unprecedented originality.

Isn’t ‘Battleborn’ the name of Bethesda’s recently announced team-based 3rd person melee-style shooter? Game names suck nowadays, boy.

But it’s cool to see such a colorful shooter. I bet this will be successful in markets where FPS’ traditionally aren’t, just because it looks so much more unique. The style has the potential to look really great in the end; it already looks pretty cool. That elf chick – the ‘face’ of the reveal right now – is rad.

I hope the MOBA influence only extends far enough to inform the multiple playable (for sale, I’m sure) unique characters that is the focus of this game’s action. I don’t want more creep-killing, I don’t want more dumbed-down levels that are just 2 or 3 lanes, etc.
