Veteran characters now Spyrite researcher and local reporter.

Tales of Xillia 2

Bandai Namco has released new footage and screenshots screenshots of Tales of Xillia 2 ahead of E3 next week, highlighting characters Jude and Leia.

Both Jude and Leia return from the original Tales of Xillia and befriend main characters Ludger and Elle as they make their way to the Land of Canaan.

Here’s what they’ve been up to:

Jude Mathis

Much has changed for Jude in the past year. In a world where the schism—which previously divided the worlds of Rieze Maxia and Elympios – has been dispelled at last, Jude toils endlessly in his research of spyrite: an alternative energy source which could replace spyrix and solve Elympios’ energy crisis without the expense of the spirits. If he could perfect it, spyrite could be the key to eliminating the tension between the two worlds and truly uniting their people once and for all—but there are those that would try to stop him.

Leia Rolando

Leia has always been energetic and inquisitive, and this nature of hers has led her to become a reporter for a local newspaper in Elympios, as she aims to promote cultural understanding between the two nations through the articles she writes. Her editor isn’t so easily impressed, however, and she works hard endlessly in pursuit of a story that’ll warm him up to her writing. For better or for worse though, she may get the scoop of a lifetime sooner than she thinks.

Tales of Xillia 2 is due out for PlayStation 3 on August 19 in North America and August 22 in Europe. Watch the footage below. View the screenshots at the gallery.

Something really bothers me about Ludger not having any voiced lines.

      • STiger

This video specifically only has him doing battle voices and some grunts, but he never actually speaks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlKTrVO7-_U

        • Budgiecat

I heard him say “Got it!” and “Right!” in that clip outside of battle…

          • Samsara09

in japanese,he would speak too.To us,it seemed like grunts, but in Japanese, they mean “yes”.

    • CeroSuerte

Its really annoying me.. It feels like the MAIN char is not even there, just choices.. His brother has a voice why not him!?

    • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

He has one. In Tales of the World: Reve Unitia.

    • SgtFrog

you can Unlock it at grade shop.

      • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Anyway way to use grade shop in the first playthru?

        • SgtFrog

As Far As i know you need to clear at least normal ending to unlock it.

    • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Also talks in this game, it’s unlocked after you beat it once. It’s a shame though. I hope they don’t do anymore mute leads.

      • Samsara09

Well,I saw the japanese version, and it is just am impression wha tI am about to say.

While I am rather pissed at Ludger being mute,I have to say…he is the best mute protagonist I have ever seen, especially when is choices get voiced.

I like this doctor Jude ;) and the back-step again

I want this game. But someone already told me it’s lacking in a lot of party member and exploration options. A lot of stuff in the game are decided for you.

    • Samsara09

Yes,just as much as we decide it.

    • Bobby Jennings

It’s not lacking in anything. if anything it improves over Xillia tenfold.

      • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

I mean they control what party members you get to use even after everyone’s joined. That’s my beef.

        • Bobby Jennings

Yeah but that’s only for their specific story quests for the most part.

          Even then, it’s diversity.

          • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

To each his own. I’m just not a fan of it. My sister and brother will be playing. And this means they’ll be forced to play with characters they don’t like thru key points in the game. I hope at least for the last dungeon they give us complete freedom with the party members.

            • Bobby Jennings

For the last dungeon you do have complete freedom. For most of the gameplay you have freedom.

Just for character quests and some Story quests that have to do with said characters you don’t.

To avoid spoilers. It’s good that you switch around the characters when you can. If you like E.X dungeons, you might want to do so.

              • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Thanks for the heads up. I try to train my characters even anyway, unless I hate one of them (like Sarah in SO4).

                • Bobby Jennings

                  No prob. :)

                  and yeah. It’s worth it.

    • Ladius

To be honest, this game has been praised by importers almost unanimously for being an improvement over the first game.

Some of the areas are recycled, just as in almost every jrpg that is a direct sequel set in the same world (not that there aren’t new areas and expanded ones), but the party member criticism isn’t really true since nine characters are a lot for a Tales game, and the new ones are really interesting.

      • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

I’m not trying to troll this game. I want it too.
What I’m saying is they control what party members you get to used during story events. And Gaius doesn’t join till late in the game. I’m gonna get the game, but I’m not gonna pretend I like that lack of freedom with the party members.

        • Ladius

I think you’re only forced to use some characters in some story events and character quests, but in other instances you’re free to choose your own party. The character switch in battle has been eliminated, but the way it was triggered relied on having six characters instead of nine.

I understand there’s a reason. But just because I know there’s a good reason, doesn’t negate my disappointment. If I was playing alone, I wouldn’t mind. But I have friends and siblings that I play with, and this will make them sit out battles (important battles). The same way battles where linking up was best made them sit out battles. People have been saying for a while that this is a Tales game that best played alone or with only one other player. The link system and now this in the sequel. They’re great games, but they’re not perfect.

  • futuristic_imagination

Is just me or did they nerf down Jude’s Attack speed? It looks kind of slow compare to Xillia. Good thing they still kept his snap-pivot move.

    • Samsara09

Well, some people need to whine about something.Either because he is too fast or too slow.

Don’t worry,I am not talking about you, just telling you to be careful not to get mistaken as one of them.

jude got even more artes and I imagine he kept his attack power. So,he is still a tank…also, why take his Snap pivot,if each caracter here as a special ability and a support link ability.

      • futuristic_imagination

I was just pointing it out because that was the first thing that I noticed since I just recently finished replaying Xillia to prep up and buying costumes for Xillia 2.

I kind of like the change… it might make me want to focus on link arts and team work Instead of demon fist(stun) then combo and repeat.

        • Samsara09

Yup.Oh.You shouldn’t try that in xillia, and you definitely mustn’t do this in xillia 2.I imagine they probably will penalize you.

          • Bobby Jennings

            They definitely will.

            • Samsara09

thanks.Well, with this, the spam complaint is dead.

              • Bobby Jennings

It’s mainly because enemies reduce the damage to the point that they don’t even flinch. I don’t want to spoil anything but yeah.

    • Karysonson

Yeah, I’ve had the game ever since it came out in Japan and can confirm this

    • Bobby Jennings

      Yeah, Jude was nerfed.

  • Revorse

Seems like they recorded over the Artes for the sequel. Pretty cool. I would have been slightly annoyed.

  • Ladius

This game can’t be out soon enough, I’ve been waiting for it since I beat Xillia last year and it’s great to think we will finally get to play it in less than three months.

    • Samsara09

fuck, these holidays sure are gonna get dull!No game to play!
