New games from Qute and Triangle Service.

Raiden New Project

Microsoft confirmed a number of new Japanese Xbox One games during an Xbox One presentation in Japan today.

Find the list of titles below:

  • Azito New Project (Hamster, 2015, Simulation Game)
  • Natsuki Chronicle (Qute, 2015, Shooting Game)
  • Raiden New Project (Moss, 2015, Shooting Game)
  • Shooting Love Trilogy (Triangle Service, 2015, Shooting Game)

An Xbox One version of Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires was also announced. Onigiri, currently available for PlayStation 4 and PC, will also be available on the platform.

Thanks, Inside Games.

  • DukeVerde

All shooting games… No surprise there. They could, at least, give us some screenshots though. -_-

    • Six

You know they are not FPS games, right? They are shmups.

      • DukeVerde

Oh, I know, but it *is* called Xbox Arcade. <_<

  • Six

Shame none of these will get localized, but at least the Xbone is region free.

  • Chogokin

A new Azito could be cool.

  • 武神水樹

    I need screenshots

  • Wolf Star

Japanese and shooting games… Hmmm idk about that :/

  • Somerandomperson

With third party studios leaning towards the Xboxone, SCE is up for a big challenge.

    • Sal Romano

Nothing’s happening right now that hasn’t already been happening on Xbox 360, which had tons more shmups from groups like Moss and Cave than PlayStation 3 did.

    • Elvick

      A bit premature.

  • ddsfan2

MS is really putting a lot of effort into getting niche Japanese games on their platform. Sony should take notice of this, because unlike the PS3 vs 360, the PS4 really doesn’t have many games to offer to this crowd.

I can’t believe that Sony spent all that money to get Destiny exclusive in Japan, which I’m sure wasn’t cheap, but can’t be bothered to fund very low budget Japanese games when the audiences of those games clearly want to support their console, but have nothing to play.

It all depends on what Sony shows at TGS, but right now, MS is putting a ton of effort in maintaining genres that the 360 was known for, and Sony isn’t willing to fund anything that isn’t a huge budget mass audience game. As a die hard Sony fan, I have very little interest in the PS4 currently.

    • AlphaSixNine

Sony could just be keeping things to themselves first until TGS. Remember Shuhei said in an interview that they’re keeping things for each major gaming event of the year. They have stuff saved for Gamescom, TGS etc. Surprises are great.

Besides I think most more known JP devs will just naturally move to PS4 anyway like it always has in the past console. These devs releasing on XBOne also happened back on 360 or the original XBox. They’re nothing new.

I just can’t see Tales, Atelier, Disgea etc. The more popular usually PS exclusives ever moving to XBOne. If these games get announced for XBOne then I’d really start worrying for PS4.

      • ddsfan2

I think that the PS4 will get the games _eventually_, especially RPGs, but I find it bothersome that Sony seems to be outright conceding genres (that they not too long ago had the audience for) when they don’t have much to lose by working with the developers and publishers to get a least some level of parity.

I prefer their old vaporware announcements policy, where I’d know years in advance what games their platform had to offer, but this time I guess they are going for a different strategy in that regard.

        • AlphaSixNine

Well let’s wait for TGS. This will be the first TGS where the PS4 is out already. I don’t really think they conceded on this genres, perhaps a bit secretive for now. Like I said, MS getting these games earlier for XBox has been the norm so it’s not something to draw conclusions from. If they don’t announce anything new and for the JP market then it’ll be bad for Sony.

    • Budgiecat

Did anyone have interest in the PS3 early 2007?

Because its pretty much the same scenario now. 2014 is the new 2007.

Only difference is PS4 is selling better EARLIER than PS3 was.

Japanese developers are super slow to adapt. Everyone knows this.
Japanese devs (if they haven’t all lost their minds and gone 100% mobile) will naturally transition over to the PS4; just will take some time.

And XBox has had VN’s and shmups on the 360 for years.

Certainly didnt help them much. Ultra niche is ultra niche…

Only difference now is Microsoft is not pursuing the JRPG market hard and early on like they did last time..

      • ddsfan2

It isn’t that similar, and just because it was that way before doesn’t mean it was a good move (or lack therefore of…).

The PS3 had a decent number of Japanese games that were pretty obscure almost from the beginning (Afrika, Aquanauts Holiday, Imabikisou), they held on to MGS 4 as an exclusive, Final Fantasy 13 was exclusive in Japan for a year after release, they had quite a few games from Sega, notably Valkyria Chronicles out by ~2008, and all this while they were in a bad position in terms of price and were the “bad guy”.

The PS3 was bad in terms of SHMUPs for a long time, but that was one genre, and mostly because their policies at the time were very rigid. The PS3 was always competitive in terms of VNs available, so that’s another genre that the PS4 is lacking in relative to the PS3. Now, they have almost a subset of what MS is offering to Japan, which is an insult to fans, especially when these games cost next to nothing to develop.

Now, they have very lenient policies and a massive sales lead, made the PS4 affordable by comparison, got everything right launch wise, yet offer far fewer games to Japan than even before.

        • Budgiecat

“It isn’t that similar, and just because it was that way before doesn’t mean it was a good move”

It’s not a “move” by Sony’s part; its the way many Japanese devs/publishers behave. Like I said, most are late adopters. Look at how long it took for Persona 3 & 4 to come to PS2 despite PS2’s early success, and now look how long its taken for Persona 5 to come out.

Some devs like to make games early in a console cycle, some opt to wait and take advantage of a current consoles high user base.

Shumps are a cool genre, but they aren’t system sellers by any means; like I said, ultra niche. Even more so for Visual Novels. Sony has nothing to worry about in those regards…

          • Six

I doubt Microsoft has any delusions of doing better than Sony in Japan, or have any intention of seriously trying.

I’ve heard that Microsoft built pretty good relationships with these shmup and VN makers, which would explain why they are working on Xbone games, because like you said, they are the niche of the niche.

            • Budgiecat

Like Elvick said, they’re just maintaining their established audience..

      • Six

Microsoft going after JRPGs again would be a total waste of time and would serve no purpose other than very small temporary bumps in sales and pissing off console warriors on the internet.

Funding something like Scalebound or Phantom Dust is much more financially viable, because they can appeal more to the west as well.

        • Budgiecat

I really wanna see these games in action…

    • Elvick

What evidence do you have it’s MS and not just the developers choosing to not “rock the boat” by moving away from their last gen audience on Xbox?

None? Ok. Pointless argument then. Especially given how “much” these types of games saved 360 in Japan (protip; they didn’t do anything at all in the long run, dat200units)

      • ddsfan2

It doesn’t matter to me if MS was involved or not, it’s basically irrelevant. What is clear is that Sony should get involved to ensure that the PS4 has a good variety of games from Japanese developers, and so far I just see that Lily Bergamo became a game that I don’t care about, Yakuza: Ishin is already on PS3, and thus far Square and Konami are supporting both platforms equally, so I have almost no incentive to purchase their platform.

It’s not like the SHMUP or VN audience is completely foreign to Sony anyway, especially the latter on the PS3. They could easily win the audiences back, but they would need reach out to at least one developer, which apparently is asking for too much.

I don’t anticipate either company bankrolling some high budget JRPG, but I’m sure that those developers will support Sony. Just not any time soon.

For what it’s worth, I want to be proven wrong about this, but I don’t care about sales, I want games…

        • Budgiecat

Yakuza Ishin being on PS3 is a SEGA decision not Sony.

          My God….

And no, please enough with your port begging…

        • Six

Sony never had these devs last gen. At the beginning Sony turned them down so they went to Microsoft. It’s not surprising that after building an audience and a working relationship with MS that they’d stick with Xbox.

These guys are so niche that they can make it work.

        • Elvick

It doesn’t matter to you, yet you’re giving props to MS for it… and harping on Sony for not doing what “MS are doing” even though MS probably aren’t doing anything?

  • Zechs

For a second there I thought there was going to be a Hamster Simulation Game… well that’s it, I’m off to bed.

    • DrForbidden

      That’s called ‘Zorbing’.

      • Budgiecat

        And G Force

  • Budgiecat

shmups and VNs. the song remains the same…

  • Six

I hope this gen is a repeat of last gen when it comes to JP support. JRPGs on Playstation, some exclusive shmups and action games on Xbox, in addition to multiplatforms on both.

I’d love to make it through the next few years with just an Xbone and a Wii U.

    • Budgiecat

      mobile games

Anyways you will get a PS4. No Man’s Sky looks amazing and dat Bloodborne, Order, Guilty Fucking Gear XRD, will not be ignored.

      • Six

I can get No Man’s Sky on PC and GG Xrd on PS3. I have zero interest in The Order.

Bloodborne is the only PS4 exclusive I want, and I can live without it if I have to.

        • Budgiecat

          so stubborn lol

We know eventually you’ll get one.

Japanese devs will gravitate more to PS4…is normal.

GG will have smoother framerate on PS4…

          • Six

Depends on which JP devs you like. All of my favorites supported the 360, and are now either on Xbone, Wii U, or will inevitably be making multiplatform games.

Or are making F2P games because they had change it from Lily Bergamo because fuck knows why.

            • Bobby Jennings

              Wait, what about Lily Bergamo?

              • Six

Lily Bergamo isn’t a thing anymore. It’s now the F2P game Let it Die.

                • Budgiecat

                  that looks like Manhunt…

                • Bobby Jennings

                  Deadass? Thats lame…

                  • Budgiecat

It makes no sense. Its the craziest 180 I ever saw in game development..

    • kiri25

I’d say its possible seeing as nintendo listed a pretty nice lineup of games at E3.The Xeno game alone will probably have u play ur Wii U more than the Xbone for awhile if ur a fan of the that style of game

While I do believe Sony is doing better this Gen with getting games out for the PS4, Its usually not until around the 3rd or 4th yr that Sony really starts to go into overdrive with games on their new consoles, as we saw at E3 most of the games are for 2015.

  • PrinceHeir

    Were these exclusive?

I’m surprise this didn’t come from Cave games O__O

Lots of SHUMPS!! Glad the genre will never die in Japan :)

I expect the ADV/VN genre to have the same support from last gen.

Mainly multiplatform on both PS4 and Xbox One with occasionally Vita enhancement down the road.

Do wish these SHUMPS or new ones appear on PS4 as well ^^

  • ivarious

Yakuza is confirmed for Xbox One and Windows as well.

    • Budgiecat

  • Six

    Raiden concept art.

  • Bobby Jennings

    Dayum Microsofty going hard.

Glad I picked up a Xbone a week ago. My PS4 still gets the love though.

    • Budgiecat

      no not really.

these are all companies and genres Microsoft Japan has worked with before. Nothing new.

      • Bobby Jennings

Damn you guys really don’t like Microsoft at all xD

        • Budgiecat

no…we just know a continuation of established business relationships when we see one.

          • Bobby Jennings

You can’t tell the future mang.

            • Zackasaur

You can reasonably hypothesise it, however.

              • Bobby Jennings

Sure, doesnt mean thats what will come.

                It’s like predicting the weather.

        • Luna Kazemaru

idk where you got that idea of them hating it when this was pretty much a fact we knew so there is no shock value to this happening.

          • Bobby Jennings

First of all, I didn’t say hate. It’s all over this site. xD

        • jugss

Xbox doesn’t sell that good in Japan though. Here’s an article about it.

          • Bobby Jennings

I’m aware of that already. But like I said, you guys can’t tell the future.

Xbox One hasn’t released in Japan yet.

      • Six

Pretty much. I’m probably the biggest Xbox fan here and I can say it’s not very surprising. Nice to see, but not surprising.

  • Kurisu Makise

Was anyone really expecting exclusive JRPGs before Tokyo Game show? Enjoy the interesting shooters, be happy the Visual Novels are still coming, and let’s see what TGS brings. Actually though, I think Kinect could be pretty useful for some of the VNs, especially with the heart detector. If Love Plus wasn’t damaged as a brand, I’d have said try getting that too xD Waifu’s you talk with next generation edition lol

    • Budgiecat

I’d like to see the VN’s actually take advantage of the hardware for once..

      • Kurisu Makise

As would I actually, as would I. I see no reason why not too, it’s largely static, so you can pump out amazing visuals without too much worry. Potential kind of being wasted in my opinion.

        • Budgiecat

whats crazy is I see some more impressive Live2D work on some iOS/Android Japanese apps..

          • Kurisu Makise

Ugh that wounds my soul Budgie, I might not recover. I’ve been wanting to see Live2D go far but…iOS/Android?! There’s only one thing which can express my anger: ┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻

            • kurosan9712

Traditionalists in Japan care not for potential, and I here support them too.
Static pictures is the base of Visual Novel genre, and I still love them.

Moreover to it, Live2D looks awful. Ever seen jelly? That’s what Live2D technology looks to my eye.
              And that’s REALLY not beautiful.

If anything, I’d want future VNs to be like Golden Time: Vivid Memories, being part static, part Realize2D, which is a much better 2D animation technology, without the jelly.

    • Six

Throw in Dance Central: Project Diva and Japan is won.

      • Kurisu Makise

Let’s just go tell Microsoft how to win Japan cause at this point, with consoles selling in 6-8k, if someone made a serious effort, they could be doing at least Vita 10k on a bad week. I’ll start:

        Exclusive games from these developers:
        Tri Ace
        Alpha Systems
Uh what’s that one which starts with a W? Withcraft or something? Sorry mind blank.
and I know people won’t agree with me on this last one but…
        Idea Factory/Compile Heart.
Oh and if you can get these guys on track just don’t spend too much: ImageeEpoch.

        • Six

I can see MS hooking up with Tri-Ace again at some point.

        • Budgiecat

Its too bad Konami killed Hudson…

          • PrinceHeir

            Bloody Roar 5 NOOOOOO :(

They were actual planning to reboot it.

Even got the original creator and artist of Bloody Roar 1 and 2 on board.

            Damn you Konami!!!!!

            • tokyobassist

Yeah or them teasing Contra for the 3DS several years ago at an E3.

Or the biggest blasphemy of them all. Cancelling Gradius VI which was schedule to be a PS3 launch window title.

  • Vayne

These are games that you finish in half an hour.

    • Six

If only shmups were replayable, maybe with a high-score system or something. But I see where you are coming from. An epic story like in Deathsmiles really can only be enjoyed once.

      • tokyobassist

Ketsui is highly replayable. It’s hard as nails and it’s one of the few Cave games that allow for improvisational play even at higher levels due to it’s unique scoring mechanic.

I can understand not everybody being into tackling scores but it’s challenging and for me these danmakus are enjoyable just to see how far I can get.

        • ddsfan2

Seconded on Ketsui, phenomenal game, much better bullet patterns than most of the rest of Cave’s catalog (as much as I love Progear and Akai Katana, the patterns are no where near as polished)

I think it’s a lot more accessible after practicing for days with save states in MAME though….

      • Fat Tony

Even without high scores, just going for a 1cc alone on some games can sometimes take longer than some full length rpg’s. And than you factor scoring and competition with other players on the leaderboards in…

    • PrinceHeir

      Not really.

These games are more about mastering the gameplay system and achieving high scores.

They are all about gameplay at its core. Still remember people bitched about Metal Gear Rising’s short story(which it is), yet the game is about mastering the Zan-Datsu system and achieving S Rank in all missions.

Already put around 50 hours on the game and i have yet to play the VR Missions nor the DLCs.

Unfortunately games nowadays focuses too much on cinematic experience instead of actual making fun and addicting gameplay.

Nothing wrong with cinematic games, but it would suck if all games were like that.

    • tokyobassist

Yes but you’d have be one of the playtesters or a gaming god to finish these kind of games on your first try. I defy someone to tell me they only spend a grand total of 30 minutes to finish Ikaruga or Radiant Silvergun on the first day of owning it. Not happenin’ homie.

    • Fat Tony

I have put 50 hours into the steam release of Crimzon Clover (another 45 minute bullet hell shmup) and I have yet to reach the final boss.

      You were saying?

  • TetsuyaHikari

Shmups coming to the shmup machine. What else is new? XBOX360, meet your son, XBOX One. He will be carrying on your legacy of VNs and Shmups since your brother and sister are apparently unworthy.

  • Locksus

Shmups, huh? 360 had some great games in thst genre. Looks like Xbone will be largely the same in that regars. I played Deathsmiles on 360 and I loved it. My first touch with the shmup genre, actually.

  • 罪罰

and Xbone gets more Japanese games than Sony.
    Why is this happening again.

    • MrKappa

Because Microsfot got the money to throw around and they are putting forth an effort while Sony just waits and hopes like always.

      • 罪罰

        godammit sony support your blood

        • kiri25

They do support their blood why do think 360 failed and all likelyhood so will the XB1 in japan.

      • Elvick

MS isn’t throwing money at niche content like this.

Don’t be dumb. Be like saying Sony pay Nippon Ichi Software for their games. When it’s just NIS knowing their audience is on PlayStation, so stay there. Since they tried to expand and failed before (DS, Wii).

No different with this stuff. Niche content is not on Sony or MS’ radar.

    • kiri25

Sry but not sure i understand your comment? The games listed above are in no way japanese xbone systems sellers. Also its only 4 games?

Sony has Akiba Trip 2 , Neptunia VIi, Guilty Gear xrd, Deep down, Bloodborne, Omega Quintet, Let it Die and i’m sure the text Tales of will be PS4 only. So yea not sure how Xbone is getting more jp games than Sony and out of the 6 games above 2 u can get on ps4, Onigiri and Dw:E, while the other 4 are nothing truly major that is going to really push the Xbone in japan or the west for that matter.

      • 罪罰

        • kiri25

Hmmm guess u realized u couldnt list that many japanese games for the XB1 compared to Sony.

          • Six

            Xbox One –

            Azito New Project
            Natsuki Chronicle
            Raiden New Project
            Shooting Love Trilogy
            D4 Dark Dreams Don’t Die
            Phantom Dust
            Mystereet F
            Psycho Pass
            Crimson Dragon

            Playstation 4 –

            Omega Quintet
            Hyper Dimension Neptunia VII
            Let it Die
            Deep Down
            Dream Club: Host Girls

There are lots of wishy washy “Oh, so and so is making a PS4/Xbone game”, but I left those off.

Let me know if I missed anything.

            • kiri25

Well let’s see u forgot Guilty Gear Xrd, Akiba trip 2, Galak-Z if u want me to name a shooter, mobile suit gundam, phantom breaker and more. Btw I avoided adding the ps4 games alrdy out on ps4 just to try and keep it fair. Also the Xbone games u mentioned aren’t really the impressive IMO of course. Must look just like alit xbox live titles nothing that really screams u need xbox1 for this.

I do know some of those games are not live btw, scalebound and phantom dusk Are pretty big titles but the rest are not so much.

              • Six

Guilty Gear Xrd is on PS3, Akiba’s Trip is on PS3 and Vita, and Galak-Z is on Vita as well. Phantom Breaker is on 360 and Vita. None of them are PS4 exclusive.

The Gundam game for PS4 was only vaguely mentioned and doesn’t even have a release year.

                • kiri25

You seem to be missing what I’m trying to say. The original comment was suggesting that Sony was not going after japanese games. What I’m showing is that Sony has a plenty of support for the PS4, I’m not focused on exclusively on ps4, if it’s in ps4 and ps3 it’s still supporting the ps4.

    • MoreKetchup

I guess trolls like you are retarded so they didn’t notice this happen in last-gen too, Xbox got all the Shmups.

  • Lara Croft

The last Raiden game was released on the PS3. So I’m sure it will come out for the PS4. It would be weird if Raiden, in its 25th Anniversary didn’t come for PS4 and/or Wii U.

  • tokyobassist

Oh shit…the exclusive shmups on Xbox begin once again!

Touche. At least there are some shmups to play.

  • tokyobassist

That said not too worried about the new Raiden game since an expanded version released recently on PSN (long ass wait but hey it’s there alongside R-Type Dimensions) so I’m sure this will follow suit.

Now that new Qute shmup though…

Ginga Force looks awesome but doesn’t look like I’ll ever get a chance to play it. Eschatos kinda reminds me of Boxcelios in Yakuza. Qute makes interesting shmups so for sure.

  • shogunknight

Xbox One gets the schumps while PS4 gets the MMOs. when will X1 get Reflex or Ether Vapor and PS4 get Black Desert or Phantasy star online 2 hmm?

    • Six

You are making it sound like the PS4 is ever getting PSO2.

      • shogunknight

Yeah. Well, the same could be said to the titles i mentioned for X1

        • Six

Yeah, and? This isn’t a contest.

          • shogunknight

Hey, who said anything about a contest? I was making a wishful thinking of 2 of my best schumps with 2 of my best MMOs on the two consoles that were accomodating those franchises respectively. Dont take this the wrong way

  • Articuno76

I’m guessing the new Xbox is going to mostly be a shump and VN machine just like the 360 was.

  • Six

I do love how so many keeping bringing up that the Xbone is going to fail in Japan, as if it wasn’t already obvious.

But why does that even matter? Is your enjoyment of games tied to how well the platform is selling?

Thats what it looks like on this site sadly.

I mean I fanboy over PS4 too but jeez.

Well……kinda, you don’t want a game you would love to play to be a platform esclusives or cancelled because of poor sales.

It’s a shame they waste these games on Xbox consoles.

If its Raiden the Shmup series from Seibu Kaihatsu then damn it. I love the Raiden series and have about every game including “The Raiden Project” for PS1.

GamerGod was an obvious troll and has been banned.

There was a time when getting a Playstation meant playing shooting games…….

Looking at your various posts in this topic, you seem like someone who’s opinions I can safely ignore entirely.

Quantity over quality imo. Though I don’t disagree.

    *Calls himself “Gamer God”

*Would prefer to play movies over games

Gameplay should always take precedent over story unless that’s not how it was intended. (VN & Interactive Dramas)

Not action games, TPS, and fighting games.

Check which platforms many of the games that you and others are listing are available for (PS3, Vita..), that is my point. I didn’t say I won’t support said releases, but I will say that I don’t expect people in Japan to do so, at least on the PS4. Yes, Bloodborne looks cool, but is just one game.

As for the rest of your argument and many others, I don’t know what to say other than that I think people here are being very uncritical, have very low expectations of companies, and have a lot of double standards regarding when one company gets a game on their platform over another.

I want to apologize for unintentionally derailing this thread, which has gotten way out of hand. I was out of line in that this isn’t the place to argue these points, and I don’t want to rub anyone else the wrong way with an apparently unpopular point of view (primarily because I’m siding partially with both camps). To be clear, I meant no hostility whatsoever to you or others.

However, I think I explained my perspective on this pretty clearly, and I don’t really have time to explain it again and again, when game releases are trivial to verify, as if I have to present a graph of that data to point out the obvious.
