Plus, Link and Zelda get Twilight Princess-style costumes.

Hyrule Warriors

Nintendo has released a new set of screenshots showing off newly revealed Hyrule Warriors characters Lana and Agitha.

Lana is a “White Witch” who can manipulate powerful magic. She has a lively and honest personality, and puts her all into everything that she does. For the good of all Hyrule, she decided to help put an end to the misconduct of the game’s main antagonist Cia. She and Cia share some sort of connection, but doesn’t talk about it. In battle, she does a lot of running and jumping, making her fighting style dynamic.

Agitha, returning from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, is a young girl who collects golden insects that lost her way from another world. She is attacked by monsters, but is saved by Lana, who is searching for the Door of Reincarnation. She is a natural airhead and does everything at her own pace. Her atmosphere is generally warm, and she is always smiling. In addition to her parasol, she can fire giant beetles at enemies, as well as fly to the sky on the back of a gigantic butterfly.

Outside of the two new playable characters, we also meet two new enemy characters.

Zant is a man said to have ruled the shadow world with powerful forces snatched away from royalty. He was summoned by Cia from another world via the Door of Reincarnation. At first he might appeared composed, but he’s actually considerably hysterical and bizarre. He wields two curved swords, which he slashes recklessly in combat, and has a body slam attack that does damage across a wide area. He is also well off in magic-based attacks.

Argorok is the “Twilit Dragon” of the City in the Sky. A ferocious beast, even the Oocca and their advanced civilization have trouble containing him. His entire body is protected by black armor-like plating. He remains in the air as he attacks—predominantly through hot flames and gusts of wind—allowing him to invoke damage all around him.

Also in the screenshots, you’ll see “Twilight Earth,” a field that appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. In Hyrule Warriors, it is a “Shadow Area” that should have disappeared from the World of Light, but somehow appeared again.

Finally, you’ll also see special Twilight Princess costumes for Link and Zelda.

Hyrule Warriors is due out for Wii U on September 26 in North America and September 19 in Europe. View the screenshots at the gallery.

    Lana confirmed for Wifu.

Also, anybody notice that Link is the only playable male in this game so far?

    • http://shinsua.tumblr.com/ Shinsua

To what I know of LoZ, there really aren’t all too many prominent males, yeah? There are a couple on people’s wishlist, but, like… that’s Groose and Ganon, and who else? What other important male character doesn’t turn out to be Zelda in some way?

      • Karysonson

It’s just funny to me considering on other series people complain about male dominance and miss things like this.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the characters in this so far!

Aheh, unfortunately some people look into a dirt well expecting mud, see mud, and never find what might’ve sunken long ago.

        • KingNigma

It’s more to do with the fact there isn’t enough instances of games like this. I mean, for every Hyrule Warriors or Tomb Raider there are countless other male dominant games ya know.

          • Karysonson

            I mean…I guessss…..

        Spoiler: Ganon is Zelda.

      • Aidan Gamble

All of the villains in the series save Veran, Cia and SPOILERS: Hilda are male.

I guess Darunia counts too? Maybe Kaepora Gaebora?

Yeah, Zelda has a lot of girls.

    • Six

Well, it’s The Legend of Zelda. Women are much more prominent in the series. I can still list a ton of female characters I’d like to play as, but very few men.

    • Shippoyasha

There’s only Link, a few villains and a few rare male childhood friends as far as male characters go. Link has a lot of romantic interests and childhood girl friends he meets so it’s only natural there are so many female characters.

      • Six

It’s more than that. In the LoZ lore, the world was created by three goddesses.

The series, in my opinion at least, has always been about women.

        • Elvick

The series is named after the female too. There are two dudes that it could be named after “Legend of Link” “Legend of Ganon”, but nope. Zelda gets it.

          female powa

Now I see why Ganondorf is the usual nemesis… There can only be one Harem Lord!

We’ll leave KLK to Plat Games.
I feel like Tecmo Koei wouldn’t do the action of the series justice.

        — I say in a fleeting dream.

        • Six

Eh… I think the combination of Omega Force and a Team Ninja who’ve learned their lesson after Razor’s Edge could pull it off.

          • http://shinsua.tumblr.com/ Shinsua

Iunno. From what flash I’ve seen in recent DW games, I feel like it’s all just really empty, no substance. I haven’t played any recent licensed games they’ve released, though, so I have no idea how those might handle.
