Freedom Wars

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia has released a new 12-minute trailer for Freedom Wars.

The video, which is being shown at retailers, introduces the game’s every aspect, including the android “Accessories” that watch over the game’s criminals, the Panopticon-supplied “Thron” whip, the game’s powerful charge techniques and weapons, character customization and costume changes, Accessory remodeling, and various of the game’s “Volunteers.”

Watch the trailer below. Or, if you want to try out the game yourself, a demo is currently available on the Japanese PlayStation Store.

  • Kuro-Law

This needs to be marketed by sony. Potentially able to revive the vita for western audience.

    • Nate

I doubt this would revive it here. Maybe help more in JP. This is not a very western appealing game. To us here yes, main stream, no.

      • Zackasaur

Apparently, one of the big IGN PlayStation guys is in love with the game.

I don’t go to IGN, but I was told that about an hour ago.

      • Kuro-Law

Other than the anime-esque style it has guns and swords two things which appeal to western audiences. Plus multiplayer functionality encourages gaming and buying more. Obv I could be wrong but if they market it in a way to appeal to western audiences it could work.

      • pixxxelz

        But it has guns dude!..

      • Elvick

When has anyone actually advertised a Japanese game though? Like… for real.

No one even tries now, so the vast majority don’t even know these games exist. So any potential they have isn’t really given a chance.

People just assume since a game that’s never advertised doesn’t sell like the generic dudebro 500 million advertising budget game, that no one cares.

It’s like how pop music is pushed hard by labels, but everything else isn’t. So the conclusion is that pop makes money… when it’s marketing that really matters. (especially considering some of the pop music that sells well is utter garbage…) Same with Disney and 2D vs CG films. They didn’t push Princess & The Frog or Winnie the Pooh as they did Toy Story 3, or the oversaturated Frozen.

        • Kuro-Law

I remember Fire Emblem Awakening being advertised heavily, atleast in the UK.
          Still extremely disappointing

          • Elvick

And that game did well didn’t it?

It’s almost like… people need to know things exist to buy them.

            • Kuro-Law

              Crazy Huh?

      • DrForbidden

From everything I’ve seen about this game, I think it is very friendly to western audiences, compared to some other Vita games like Muramasa Rebirth, Toukiden or even Oreshika 2. It shouldn’t be a hard sell.

The problem is, as refrain mentioned, that SCEA/SCEE don’t seem to give two flying shits about marketing the game. So far, the only information SCEA has released on this game is on its blog mentioning that it will be localised. E3 is the biggest gameshow in the US, and this game is releasing within the next 6 months, but Sony didn’t even bother to announce a release date. I really feel bad for Dimps.

    • refrain

Well, the problem is SCEA doesn’t give a shit

      • Elvick

        Sad, but true facts.

      • Kuro-Law

        It hurts man.

        • DrForbidden

          I know, man, I know. C’mere. I’ll give you a hug.

  • Dede Ogbe

This game is amazing! Haven’t had so much fun playing a demo in a very long time.

    • Nate

Really glad to hear. I don’t know why we did not see it at E3.

    • pixxxelz

My only complaint with it would be that the ibara hook reach is too short..

      • Dede Ogbe

Yeah. I think that’s upgradable though. Also don’t know how to unlock the other list of missions

        • pixxxelz

          Yeah that’s what I thought.
And what other list thought there were only 4 (my Japanese skillz aren’t exactly the best)

          • Dede Ogbe

I mean the option directly below when your about to go into the mission list.

            • pixxxelz

Oh I see what you mean

    • MyBodyIsReady

Dude, gimme some details! Whats the difficulty level like? Does it run smooth? any particularly cool enemies? is the soundtrack any good?

Damn video’s not working for me :(

      • Dede Ogbe

Well it’s a demo, but it’s pretty damn smooth. No framerate issues what so ever. Videos don’t do the game justice in terms of showing how clean, colourful and smooth it actually is. In terms of difficulty I would say it’s challenging but still remains fun, i.e you don’t want to bang your head against the wall, and you don’t grind. The aim of the missions I played is to rescue the civilians. As such you don’t actually have to completely beat the abductors. Now what makes it difficult is that you actually have to plan, and be strategic. Sometimes just disabling the abductor will be enough and you just run like hell. Other times trying that is just gonna get you killed, for example if there are other smaller enemies. These little buggers will prevent you from escaping and if you didn’t kill the abductor, it will recover and catch up to you. Then you not only have a berserk titan to deal with, you also have these little shits that keep on spawning. So I would say planning is key. All in all am having a good time with it, and it’s gonna appeal to a lot more people than Soul Sacrifice did. :-) Soundtrack was surprising good as well. Fits the mood of the game perfectly.

        • Kami nii

I agree here CAREFUL PLANNING is needed to succeed. heck the direct damage of those monstrosities is half of your hp I just played the demo a while a ago and I’m awed because I never expected this game to look this good the videos are not that appealing to me. One thing for sure this is day 1 for me does the Asian ver. comes with Eng subs?

          • Dede Ogbe

One of the best looking vita games IMO. Don’t think so, though tempted to just buy the game anyway, then buy it again when it gets released in the west.

      • pixxxelz

GameSpot did a preety good video about the E3 demo if you wanna check it out

        http://www.gamespot.com/videos/e3-2014-freedom-wars-stage-demo/2300-6419616/

  • Nate

I wish we could log into our JP accounts on the same memory card like we can on Ps3.

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

    Sweet, gonna grab the demo

  • The Moeshit

Huh? There’s no video on my end.

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Try another browser, had the same issue

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

This game looks amazing on the Vita TV!!

    • Dede Ogbe

      I know right? It’s like a ps3 game

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Ya it’s great when they don’t need to hold back because there’s a PSP version

        • Budgiecat

So sick of Vita being held back by PSP

Cant wait till PS4 is no longer held back by PS3…

          • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

            Yep yep ^^

        • bloodiOS

          PSP version? I don’t follow.

          • Solomon_Kano

The way he’s written kinda makes it look he’s saying there /is/ a PSP version, but he means that the game is free to push the Vita since it doesn’t have a PSP version as well.

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

HOLY SHIT IT SAID MY JAPANESE NAME WHAT’S GOING ON HERE!!!!!

      • natchu96

Yeah, I remember them advertising the text-to-voice conversion abilities of that android.

Remarkable how something this simple makes it so much nicer.

  • refrain

Honestly, I don’t know if I should wait for the US ver or just buy the JP ver. I’m worry that I can’t buy or use any dlc because I’m using my US acc now

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Need a JP account for dlc

    • Elvick

      Buy the NA version.

    • DrForbidden

If you don’t have a Japanese PSN account or don’t own an extra memory card, there’s no real reason to buy the Japanese release over the US one. It’s a lot more trouble than it’s worth, IMO.

  • bloodiOS

Hey Sal… I’m not seeing anything on my end!

  • Nate

Is it possible that we will get this game this year?

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

      Maybe,Amazon says December

      • bloodiOS

Well, that’s just a placeholder though. I remember they used to set December 31 in some year as the release date for Final Fantasy Versus XIII and well,… look at what happened to that.

        • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

          Ya true

    • Dede Ogbe

Sony has confirmed a 2014 release. Hasn’t given a proper release window though. Am betting they’ll announce it at gamescom

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

    This game is really fun

    Just complete the demo
