World's biggest games expo to be in LA yet again.

E3 2015

E3 2015 will run from June 16 to 18, the ESA announced.

The ESA are contractually obligated to hold the show at the Los Angeles Convention Center through 2015. However, at an E3 dinner attended by Joystiq earlier this week, ESA president and CEO Michael Gallagher said he was considering other top cities for the 2016 trade event.

    Slightly longer than a year away. D;

  • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

They really should try to mix it up location wise a bit. A change of scenary can really help, nevermind the grants one could get from a city to host such a big event. I’m sad that E3 is going to take even longer next year though. 16-18 would make the waiting around May torture.

  • Six

I look forward to seeing gameplay from all the games we just got CG trailers of this year.

    • Pyrofrost

Final Fantasy XV’s NA release date, please be excited.

      • Six

I’ll be too doped up on Rise of the Tomb Raider footage and Halo 5 gameplay to care much about anything else. :P

        • Pyrofrost

On the JRPG side, I’m seeing next year’s E3 being all about FFXV, KH3, P5, Xenoblade X, and SMTxFE.

          • Six

I think Persona 5 will make it out in the US before the next E3.

We’ll probably get lots of Xenoblade X and FFXV though, along with hopefully some new ones. *cough* microsoftfundedmistwalkerjrpg *cough*

            • Pyrofrost

Yeah, they are usually pretty timely on the NA release after a JP release on Persona, it depends more or less on how much promotion they decide to put in this time around and the building of the hype train.

As of now though, we don’t even have an official JP release date, just more of an approximate window.

              • Six

I don’t know how much you can promote a game like Persona. An anime-styled JRPG set in Japan with characters who use honorifics kind of limits the mass market appeal.

It seems like a more word-of-mouth kind of thing, like the Souls series.

                • Pyrofrost

It has pretty much always been like that, but now days Persona’s appeal is a lot more far reaching than it once was. It’s a game with niche characteristics, but has somehow gained a great deal of appeal. So it’s really hard to say what kind of tactics will be used for this one.

Sure, its sales can’t compete with the likes of FF, but I’m betting on it outdoing Zestiria for sure.

                  • Six

It’ll beat Zesty Italian, no doubt. I wouldn’t be shocked to see it do a million in Japan alone, to be honest.

                  • Samsara09

                    Well,this is gonna be fun!
Well, aren’t you being bold, mister Pyro?Let’s see about that!
I think it Zestiria vs persona 5 will go to the bitter end.But I still think Zesty will win.

          • Samsara09

P5 will be released on winter 2014 in japan.I really believe we will be getting it til spring, summer tops.

XV,well,I still think will be 20XV…KH3 is 2016(just a year after the 13th birthday of the series…I think Nomura dreams he could release III in 2015,but I think 2016 is close enough, lol)

            • Six

He will totally miss that. Final Fantasy XV in 2016, KH3 in 2017-2018.

              Believe it.

              • Samsara09

lol.Maybe WE in the Occident will get XV in 2016,but I seriously doubt Square is gonna release it for japan in that year.

Rpgs usually take 3 years to be developed.Supposing 2006-2009(the concept-“hiatus” period) and 2009-2011(the PS3 period) are “null”,XV is “three years old” now.
I do agree that 2016 is the absolute limit. They have been working on this game for a decade by then, lol.

KH3,I really doubt it as well. This game is the requiem of the saga.Ever since KH2 almost 10 years ago, nomura had an idea about how to proceed with the saga, and how it would end.All the pieces are in place.Honestly, the only troublesome parts may be gameplay and disney worlds…I think 2017(when the game is 4 years old) is the absolute limit.

          • Anime10121

That’d be frekin awesome to have an E3 where ALL the top dogs (Jrpg wise) are showing the goods and MGSV:TPP is guaranteed to be there as well :D

      • Anime10121

Heh.. we’ll be lucky to get FFXV’s Japanese release date at E3 next year XD

        • Pyrofrost

          Possibly, lol.

But, I’m honestly expecting a release window revealed at TGS. I’m not going to be so bold as to make a definite call on that, but that’s what I’m expecting.

          • Anime10121

I hope so as well, but then, Type 0 just got unveiled, so unless they announce a release date for that before TGS, I can see that being their “big” focus while XV yet again gets a trailer with no signs of release :(

            • Samsara09

Well, this port’s purpose is to allow us westerns to get the game.i doubt it will get in XV’s way.On the contrary, the game will force us to buy a PS4 earlier than intended and prepare for XV’s coming.

              • Six

I’d be horrified if Type 0 HD took any resources away from FFXV. With FFXIV fixed, it should be all hands on deck for getting FFXV out the door.

                • Samsara09

it is just a port. The only thing they have to work with is probably the graphics.i doubt they will add new content…and even if they did,I doubt they will need a HUGE team to do it.They could do just like the KH remixes and X/X-2.

There is the dub and translation, but…I think SE has that covered already.

                • Anime10121

Well with the Type 0 team being molded into XV’s, unless they get another team (outside of Type 0’s) to do the porting, its unfortunately looking that way :(

(Just like the Kingdom Hearts remasters are being worked on by the same team doing KH3). Now they are SUPPOSED to be working in tandem…but this is SE, even when a team is working by itself they cant get a game out in a timely manner (i.e. KH2 team headlining Versus/XV for all these years)..

                  • Six

I would kill for a behind-the-scenes documentary of what went wrong with Final Fantasy XV.

The Witcher 3 was announced in February 2013, and it’s coming out two years later. That game contains a single city that is nearly 4 times the size of Skyrim alone.

And Final Fantasy XV will likely ship nearly a decade after it’s announcement.

                    • Anime10121

Lol, I’d pay more for that, then I would for the game itself XD

                    • Six

I wouldn’t be surprised if at one point SE wanted to can the thing, but didn’t out of fear of losing Nomura.

                    • Anime10121

Hell from the way Nomura’s talked about the project, it seems like he’s wanted to cancel it his self on occasion. I still remember him saying that one time that this’ll be the first and the last Final Fantasy that he would direct because of the stress and strict nature that the series had to be handled…

Looks like Square Enix had another thing in mind though with them already confirming sequels…That is unless Tabata is given full range over them :P

                    • Six

Maybe it’s time for SE to release Ito from the basement and let him take a crack at a console Final Fantasy. Put Nomura on smaller handheld games for a while, once XV and KH3 ship.

                    • Anime10121

Nomura did say he wanted to go back to KH after he finished what was then still Vs…

But yeah, they’re not gonna let Ito outta the basement cuz his game’s dont sell Kitase/Toriyama numbers :(

Who cares if his games are critically the best in the series? They dont sell FFVII,FFVIII,FFX, or FFXIII numbers so they must be bad. He’s a horrible director because his games dont sell. Lock him in the mobile dungeon :/

                    • Six

It kills me that he is still there, and it’s depressing to see the guy who made my favorite game wasted like that.

Yeah, he doesn’t have the fame of Kitase, or Toriyama, but I think Final Fantasy needs to get away from them for a while, and I think many fans are sick of them anyway.

                    • Anime10121

Agree wholeheartedly! Though I’d vote Toriyama out (or on smaller scale products) and Kitase just to get “demoted” back to directing…
But Ito…it pains me that he hasnt gotten the respect he deserves at the company :(

                    • Samsara09

                      lol,the internet is flooded with
“what I was doing when XV was announced, what I am doing now”…and “How many games were released in X series or in the Y series while XV was in development”

                    • Six

Platinum Games will have come into existence and have shipped 8 games by the time XV releases. Maybe even 9 if Scalebound is far along enough.

                    • Samsara09

I was just a 11 years old toddler, well, persona 5 will have released before it,lol…and well,6 tales of were released in this interim…
Ahhh, then there is assassin’s creed and those “other” series.

                    • Pyrofrost

Honestly, I’m betting it was a combination of their goals with the game vs. PS3 limitations; and them waiting out and/or deciding to buy out the PlayStation exclusivity contract.

I don’t really see any other truly legitimate reasons it would have landed in such development hell, not from a company with SE’s clout. Whatever the real reason is though, we’ll never know anything outside of PR jargon.

                    • Samsara09

“Oh,we had some little bumps on the road, but XV’s development was all within schedule…”

Some bullshit like that I imagine.

            • Pyrofrost

I’m expecting them to have official dates all around for Type 0 by the TGS. I don’t expect it to get all the work FFX/X-2 and the KH HD Remixes got; or to stand in the way of FFXV.

              • Anime10121

Lets hope that’s the case, but with the game moving to PS4, people are going to have certain expectations that the graphical quality is improved more than the X|X-2 remaster from PS2 to PS3. This is a sub PS2 quality game being ported to PS4… its gonna need work to make it not look like crap.

I personally wouldnt care if they just straight put the PSP version on PS4 and called it a day (I played BBS with a device to stretch the screen on my tv), but you know how gamers like to bitch nowadays :/

                • Samsara09

it is not that much,it has some pretty graphics for PSP.

Besides, people criticize XIII for it’s crystal beautiful graphics and it’s supposedly “shitty” quality.

They can’t criticize type 0 if the opposite happens right?it just needs to have graphics between XIII and XV

                  • Anime10121

They can, and they will unfortunately :(

                    • Samsara09

Well, just fuck them, then.Lol,they obviously will.Haters gonna hate, but many PS4 games in these first years will probably have PS3 graphics, just a little shinier at the very least.

besides, why the heck do we need such graphics that only eat resources, when we can go just fine for PS3 graphics?

Yeah, the processor is really important, since this is why nomura chose the PS4 to continue his masterpieces…

          • Samsara09

yeah…TGS is a japanese event, right?Since they revealed the game’s new name in a westerne event,it is natural to show it’s jap release date in a Japanese event.

    • Anime10121

I’m really proud of Nintendo this year, while 95% of both Sony, Microsoft, and EA’s (ESPECIALLY EA’s) presentations were straight CG. Nintendo showed gameplay for EVERY game they unveiled, and a considerable bit of it too. This is the first E3 I can ever remember viewing and saying that Nintendo had literally blown me away …

      • Six

EA’s wasn’t even CG. It was nothing. Straight-up nothing.

Microsoft was pretty bad with it, but the combination of a Tomb Raider sequel, a Kamiya game, and my own suppressed biases, it was enough to make me excited. :P

CG for Bloodborne freaking killed me though, when we had already seen leaked gameplay.

        • http://lfdn.deviantart.com/ CosmicNova

Sad part is Sony had Gameplay for almost all the games it shown. Except for Uncharted. But all the gameplay was either shown behind close doors or left for their pre-show to reveal.

      • Samsara09

Nintendo owned everyone in this shit. That was a massacre.

  • Akari Akaza

Wow! this one is going to be even shorter. I remember when they lasted for 5 days not anymore.

    • Pyrofrost

Probably a new energy conservation ordinance in place, other events in LA that are planned, the pricing to use the space was more than they wanted to pay for a longer duration. It could be any number of reasons.

They can run less days and longer hours and still get as much out of it.

      • Anime10121

He’s/She’s referring to when E3 used to be open to the actual public… back when there was E3 really was a show that focused on worldwide games. The spectacle of E3 shrunk considerably once they closed it off to only press. They also downsized the amount of days. This all happened around 2006-2007…

        • Pyrofrost

Oh, I know, I was more or less referring to the possible reasons for further downsizing.

  • Martian Wong

FFXV, will you be there? Will you? Or you will be in my hand?

  • rainelee

Cool, hopefully they might come to ATL when the contract expires. How I will get passes to go to the event is another story. :/

  • Crossbones (Prodigy-X)

Good Lord, Now we have to wait longer.

  • http://twitter.com/M_Demolish Demolish

This year E3 was ok,but in my opinion i like TGS more than E3.

  • Six

Also, them Bethesda logos. Fallout 4 confirmed.

    • MrFinalgamer

Really? Nice, hope it’s more like New Vegas, than Fallout 3. And maybe, just MAYBE have less bugs, but keep the ragdoll! That thing is just too ugly, and funny to look at.

      • Six

        I wasn’t being serious. :P

  • Samsara09

    farewell,E3 2014.You were good.

    • SOforever

yep it was now excited for E3 2015 already but, Gamescom, TGS, and everything else comes first

  • Eder García

very good E3 this year. Nintendo owned MS and Sony.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I wouldnt say they owned…at all really, they all had great showings.

    • Kuro-Law

Eh, wasnt really “owned” just better.
      Pretty much N> S>M

    • Elvick

      Disagree.

    • Locksus

      N>M=S imo

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

      Wouldn’t go that far

  • http://mark115.tumblr.com King of Nowhere

Well, we will be waiting once again for FFXV, KHIII, The Last Guardian… Hope we don’t have to wait untill E3 2015 to see them.

    • Samsara09

hahahahahah, yeah,XV and Kh3.Man,this is gonna be some wait.I still hope that by 2016 we have both games…hopefully.

  • Rafael Martines

Well we will have Gamescon, Comic Cons (SD and NY) and the Godlike Tokyo Game Show

    • Samsara09

      Well,there we go…more 3 months….bah…I hate waiting.

    • DarthBrian

      I’ll be at SD Comic-Con. :)

      • MrFinalgamer

Haven’t been to SD Comic-con since…04, need to go back next year =/
        Have fun, though!

  • PrinceHeir

Can’t wait for TGS though :P

    Texas?

  • GamerLegend

Please consider some cities in the east for 2016 and beyond, hate the time schedule for E3.

  • Samsara09

We may get some hot stuff for tgs…

  • Six

I’m counting on it. Even Microsoft has been playing it up.

  • Samsara09

lol, even microsft? What kinda shit are they intending to pull of then?Oh well, this is what I expect from Square…
    1)Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD remix
    2)Bravely Second
    3)Final fantasy Type-0 HD
    4)Final fantasy XV
    5)Kingdom Hearts 3

  • Six

Microsoft always has some neat exclusives from Japan. Hell, they just announced two of them at E3 with Phantom Dust and Scalebound, and they’ve got Makoto Asada from Cave working on some Xbone games.

  • Samsara09

    I see,good for them.Not that interested in it…

  • Six

Obviously. I’m pretty much the only person on this site who likes Japanese games but doesn’t like JRPGs, and prefers Xbox to Playstation.

  • Samsara09

don’t worry about it!We are a fellow games, who have fun with video games. That is good enough.

    things like console wars,genre disputes,lol,that doesn’t matter.
