But will consideration ever become reality?

Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Online

Square Enix is considering bringing Dragon Quest X, its MMO entry in the popular RPG series, to western territories.

The news comes via the company’s financial results briefing session for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2014, in which page 12 says the title is “under consideration” for the overseas market.

Dragon Quest X first launched for Wii in Japan during August 2012, then on Wii U in March last year, and on PC and Android in September and December.

and still no news on DQ7….

  • Reda1234

I want the next dragon quest to be similar to VIII and on PS4. But knowing Square Enix, They will do everything it takes to disappoint fans.

  • pekot

    Yes please
    And bring it to PS4

  • Elvick

I wonder if they’ll ever port it to PS4 (or PS3).

Wonder how FFXIV is doing on PS3/4.

I’d think it’d do fairly well there if XIV is doing alright. It’s unique visually from everything else (MMOs) on PS4, and it’s different enough from FFXIV to not step on their own toes.

dragon quest is never come to ps4 until nintendo bankrupt

      • desponent

It will come to whichever platform is currently the leader, which means 3DS for now.

        SE loves money, not Nintendo.

        • 罪罰

          everybody likes money.

I really wanted to play DQX, but then I got into FF14 and forgot about it. It’d be nice to see it move west though, if only to say we have DQ here again.

  • FlareKnight

Yeah, the only news I’d really care about for DQ would be a full JRPG like DQ8. And that doesn’t seem to be on the horizon.

  • http://hatintime.com/ ShadowFang

Man, the success of Bravely Default really shook ’em up. That’s good. I can’t believe they were caught off-guard that western gamers responded so well to that. Here’s hoping they’ll actually support DQ whenever another entry – should it be this, 7 for 3DS, one of the 3DS spinoffs, or one of the mobile entries – should come to this side of the world.

I’ll tell you this though. I love Dragon Quest – DQIV and DQIX are some of my favorites of all time. This past gen did a LOT to build up that series’ western fanbase; Square was dumb to squash all that momentum and focus so hard on Lightning Returns and other games that people didn’t care about and that underperformed at retail.

But even though I’m a “Realm Reborn man” currently, and also Dragon Nest, and want to play Blade & Soul, Phantasy Star Online 2, Peria Chronicles and Black Desert should any of them come out here, I will be signing up for a DQX beta the moment it’s announced for PC! I’ll fit it into my life, Square :D

  • orzorzorz

considering their surprise at how many people liked old school JRPGs on the 3DS, why aren’t they considering VII? i’ll never cease to be amazed at this

  • Samsara09

Almost no rpg players own the WIIU,and I only need a hand to count how many rpgs it has. This game could bomb, then, they will blame the fans and be more fussy about localization.

Still, the WIIU can benefit from this, especially when X and more rpgs are released. But yeah, the WII had less than 15 rpgs, and i wouldn’t be surprised if the WIIU had even less.

Oh,I said nothing about most of the WII rpgs being good or not,but you guys can probably guess their quality.

There were some dwarf behemoths like Arc Rise Fantasia(if it weren’t for ignition),the last of us and tales of symphonia:Dawn of the new world. The biggest one was xenoblade, and only it was really good.

Instead, they could remake type-0 to the vita and then localize it.Perhaps that would be smarter.

Oh,sorry,I am just a random poster.Who am I to possibly understand the sophisticated logic SE’s hotshots use to determine how they make and localize their games?

    • Eder García

“Instead, they could remake type-0 to the vita and then localize it.Perhaps that would be smarter”
that would be worse, the Vita is dead in the US

      • Samsara09

Oh,really?Maybe, maybe not. Many genres on the vita are dead, but some aren’t.
The main one of these being the rpg genre:It has some of the best rpg around, like persona 4 golden and tales of hearts R…among some other really games waiting to be localized, like innocence R.

Final fantasy on the vita would be a fucking boon, but SE is afraid of repeating their performance on the PSP.Lol,they chose the wrong moment to jump the ship.

        • MrFinalgamer

Crisis Core did greatly overall with like over 3M copies sold. Type-0 did quite well too, almost selling a million in Japan only. =/

          • Samsara09

yeah.I think the SE did really good in the PSP.They redeemed it.but now they are afraid of making games, lol.

      • MrFinalgamer

Type-0 would print money states side, regardless of it’s platform (it would be a pretty big help for the Vita)

        • Eder García

if this game gets a Vita release, then possibly will have P4G numbers. just saying, Persona is more popular than FF outside of Japan IMHO.
let’s see what happens, Squarenix is in full mobile mode, but thank the sales of Bravery Default that SE is planning to go to the right path.

          • MrFinalgamer

“Persona is more popular than FF outside of Japan IMHO.”

OH GOD YOU’RE SO FUNNY!!! XD Seriously, P4 brought some fandom (hate the new fanbase, but meh), but it’s no where close to the FF fanbase. I mean it, they could just show some trailers, and people will most likely buy this in droves (specially if it’s exclusive).

I do hope they learned from those sales. I want more handheld games like Dissida, Crisis Core, Type-0, and even The 3rd Birthday (never played PE, so I personally loved that game)

            • Eder García

that’s why i said IMHO. but you have to accept that FF’s popularity is decreasing. that’s what i feel.

“I do hope they learned from those sales. I want more handheld games like Dissida, Crisis Core, Type-0, and even The 3rd Birthday”
right now if these games are not going to be on Vita, then not gonna happen. but considering SONY sold all its SE shares… hope these handheld games on the 3DS as well. one can dream

              • MrFinalgamer

Well, Crisis Core isn’t on PSN due to liscencing BS, and Type-0…we all know that shit. I just want to be able to play a 3D FF game like type-0 with 2 analog sticks =/

  • SOforever

I hope SE does the same for DQ VII 3DS remake. I want to give my mom that game

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

They better just save themselves some money and simply release it on PC. I don’t think many are playing their Wii consoles these days and the Wii U isn’t exactly doing great either. Selling it through Steam would probably be a nice option for them, I’d think.

  • Akari Akaza

No please, don’t bring it there.. it will cause traffic to the servers.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I don’t know why you’d say that. The servers are usually split up.

Option 1: NA/EU/AS/JP (sometimes China/Thailand/etc., Asia, gets its own server separate from Japan)
      Option 2: NA/EU/JP
      Option 3: EAST/WEST

Very few keep the server worldwide, especially if they can’t handle that kind of stress to begin with. It’s easier to minimize the lag if you split it up by regions since they understand that JP players usually don’t want NA players joining their server and party due to their high ping, and vice versa.

Sorry, just seeing if this will actually post since I am unable to see a reply button to any of the comments at the moment. I’m not sure if Disqus is having an issue here or what @w@

EDIT: The issue seems to be resolved now. Unfortunately, the comments are still closed for the new One Piece article though. Any idea what could be causing this, Zero?

Grrr… I forgot that if you edit a post, you can’t use the @ feature properly. Hopefully this will get your attention :p

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

It must have been a glitch or something I suppose.

  • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I still want to play it.

    • Kobracon

Way back when, I tried to play the JP beta and they made you download a small little program to benchmark test if your PC can handle it, what played out was one of the most adorable animations I’ve ever seen.

Also after trying out the single player mode of the beta (Multi is IP blocked of course) it certainly felt like DQ, it transferred quite well to an MMO style. So I really really REALLY hope they actually localise it.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Yeah. I ran the benchmark a few times. I think it’s still on my PC someplace.

I tried to find a way to play the JP beta but kept running into problems every time. Mostly with the IP block, but I finally just gave up on trying to play it that way.

Still, I like to support projects when they actually manage to localize it.

  • PrinceHeir

Just give us Type-0 and DQVII and all will be forgiven :P

    • Samsara09

Square always localized their games, even if some of them were crap quality…and now they are setting quite a unique precedent…

  • Jay

I just want a new Dragon Quest for PS4.

  • Thedude3445

I’d prefer Dragon Quest VII and the Monsters remake. But this is good too.
