PS Vita version to share same server as PlayStation 3 version.

Monster Hunter Frontier

The packaged version of Monster Hunter Frontier G, Capcom’s online Monster Hunter, will launch for PS Vita in Japan on August 13, this week’s Famitsu reveals.

A set of in-game armor will be included as a special favor.

The PS Vita version will share the same server as the PlayStation 3 version, meaning you can use the same account to play on both.

Thanks, Sokuho@Hokanko.

Good luck using the same account at all. The game has an I.P. block. You may want to make this known in future articles so people don’t waste money, thinking they’re actually going to get to play this online.

Thanks for letting me know Tetsu.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

A buddy of mine blew a good $90 or so on the PS3 version, only to find out he couldn’t even connect to the servers because it only accepts JP I.P. addresses. Now, there may very well be a way to use a VPN with PS3 and Vita, but I doubt many people here would be willing to go through that much effort just to play the game.

Every VPN I’ve ever used drops the connection at some point anyway since it’s being hosted in a different country and they’re generally just refreshing the servers/addresses from time to time, so it’s not really dependable to play an online game for a long period of time, unfortunately.

        • Bobby Jennings

Wow. Any specific reason for the IP blockage?

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

No clue. I didn’t bother looking into it, but it’s certainly not uncommon. They basically did the same thing with Blade & Soul recently because of foreigners always coming in, lol. So, now there’s an I.P. block.

Wizardry Online does the same thing. I’m not entirely sure why Capcom did it with this game though. You had to pay a subscription fee for the 360 and PC versions (not sure about the PS3 version, but I’d imagine it’s the same), so yeah… This game definitely isn’t import friendly between having to go through hoops to pay a foreign company for a subscription and the I.P. block.

          • Ghosteep

            Two things;
Japan is not okay with having their chat boxes filled with foreign languages they can’t understand, as well as loud and rude foreigners that don’t follow common online etiquette. Japan is very socially courteous and polite, and believe it or not it’s the same online as well.
The second thing is the most important. Latency. If you’re on the absolute opposite side of the globe it doesn’t matter how good your broadband is, you’re going to get latency and there will be many who won’t have a good connection. MH is a timing and precision heavy game that needs super low ping or else everyone’s connection and gameplay is going to be affected.

    • 罪罰

The dream of playing MH on the Vita, crushed. Capcom does it again.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, at least they can play it in Japan, right? Haha. I just wish they would do away with this I.P. block nonsense from their games (Korea does it too). I guess I understand though… The server(s) is only supposed to handle a certain payload, so it doesn’t seem fair when you have foreigners taking up slots that could be used by their own country’s residents, who the game was specifically made for.

  • Mexcomesback

Is this even coming for the west? Also, this requires a constant stable connection ergo this invalidates the reasons for buying a game on portable devices, PORTABILITY and the ability to play anywhere, also it’s available for PS3, 360, Wii U and PC in Japan so i highly doubt it will have high sales.

Sorry, i’ll wait for the real Monster Hunter 4, not a crappy port that may not see the day of the light here.

    • 罪罰

      You are gonna be surprised.

      • Mexcomesback

        about what?

        • 罪罰

How it’ll sell knowing Japan desperate craving for MH on Vita.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

It will definitely help push some Vitas too, I imagine. Monster Hunter on the go? Japan’s all over that.

            • 罪罰

              Yeah, dual analogue sticks? Crazy.

            • OlimacFTW

Monster Hunter on the go since 2005 is already a reality.

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Duh? You realize how popular it was back then, right? I’m just saying… Based on that, we have no reason to believe it won’t be popular X3

                • MrFinalgamer

But, wouldn’t people not like this due to it basically being an MMO? Or will name alone just make it sell ton?

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

FFXI was just a MMO. It’s Monster Hunter, man. Of course it will sell.

                    • MrFinalgamer

                      Even on a handheld?

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

…Don’t underestimate the power of handhelds in Japan, lol.

          • Mexcomesback

We’ll see but i wouldn’t get my hopes too high

while MH4G is at the horizon? Your optimism is admirable.

            • 罪罰

All they want is MH on Vita, nothing else matters to them. They keep waiting for Portable 4th.

              • JonathanisPrimus

But this isn’t Portable 4th. This is Frontier, the game that launched last year on PS3 and Wii U with combined sales ~30k between the two.

Monster Hunter Frontier G is planning to make a western debut, eventually guys. http://gamersyndrome.com/2014/news/capcom-planning-release-monster-hunter-frontier-g-in-the-west/

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I don’t see it happening, honestly.

      A. The PC version would never be brought to the West because, well… Let’s face it. They’ve had a PC version in Japan (and Asia) for over 5 years and we never saw it. Why would this be any different?

      B. By the time this could be localized, it would be too late. The West is already moving away from PS3 and into the PS4 era, so localizing the PS3 version is out.

      C. The 360 version… Well, see point B. Same principle.

      D. Wii U? Right, because the Wii U is soooooooooooo successful right now in any corner of the world, right? They would be pissing their money away if they brought this to Wii U in the West.

      E. Vita? Vita is dead in the West and has been for quite some time. This would be a terrible investment. It’s like betting on a race horse that is close to dying and expecting it to win.

All-in-all, despite Monster Hunter being a popular franchise in the West, I think they will simply skip this one and focus on bringing another 3DS title instead since they can actually make money off that.

      • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

        A. I don’t know what’s more depressing.. Phantasy Star Online 2 or what you just said.

        B. Can’t argue with that.. But then again, Sony has always been supporting their hardware for quite a while when you look back to PS1 and PS2…

        C. 360 already has the non-G version… To add more salt to injury, “The primary reasons for this decline are below expectations of products
in the highly profitable mobile contents and “Monster Hunter Frontier G”
        online game” Source: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e140331.html

        D. I don’t think I need to say much about the WiiU and the West..

        E. Poor Vita.. For some reason, Capcom decided to bring Frontier G to Vita despite the decline highlighted at C. They’re probably thinking that adding more platforms = more players and blindly hope that it works.. With an old game like Frontier, the majority popularity in Japan must have played it by now and rather wait for MH4G instead…

Note: The decline statement was published in 31 March 2014… That is after all platforms have gotten their own Frontier game except the Vita…

Even those MH craving Vita guys went meh when they heard about this games, I don’t really think it will matter much honestly.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, to be fair… This was announced for Vita a while back. We’ve had God Eater 2, Soul Sacrifice Delta, and soon to be Freedom Wars, released on the Vita before this game will even come out in August. I think at this point, maybe they’re just sick of this type of game at the moment, that’s all.

        • Duo Maxwell

People are still asking for MH4 on the Vita constantly. It’s just that the reaction toward Frontier hasn’t been good since release.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, that’s not surprising. I’m honestly not sure how Frontier was received in Japan, but it’s Monster Hunter, so if it does well… I won’t be surprised, lol.

        • Ghosteep

Japan will never get sick of Monster Hunter, you have no idea…

Isn’t there a more recent version of Frontier, titled MHF GG? It doesn’t even sound like Vita will get the best version of Frontier. And its online-only instead of the more popular adhoc interface… it’s on handheld but I don’t really think this will take off. And even then, they’ll still hook a few thousand people to their subscription revenue. Another cynical play by modern Capcom.

    Edit: Here’s MHF G Genuine http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Hunter_Frontier_G_Genuine

Is the Vita game going to be the latest version of MHF?
