Minecraft will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PS Vita in August, Mojang announced.
On Xbox One, the game will cost $19.99. If you already own the Xbox 360 version, you will be able to upgrade for $4.99. You will be able to import your worlds from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, but not your saves. Cross-platform play is also not possible. But “many, if not all” of the downloadable skins and texture packs available for Xbox 360 will be available for use on Xbox One. “Some of the items are trapped in licensing deals,” Mojang said.
On PlayStation 4, the game will cost $19.99. If you already own the digital PlayStation 3 version, you will be able to upgrade for $4.99. Mojang is working with Sony to allow users to upgrade from the disc version. You will be able to transfer your saves from PlayStation 3 or PS Vita to PlayStation 4, but not vice-versa, due to technical reasons. Cross-platform play will not be possible between the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita versions. Like Xbox One, “many, but not all” of the downloadable content already released for the PlayStation 3 version will be available for use in the PlayStation 4.
Finally, on PS Vita, the game will cost $19.99. I you already purchased the PlayStation 3 version, you will get the PS Vita version free. Future purchases of the PlayStation 3 version will also grant you the PS Vita version free. Save data is transferable between PlayStation 3 an PS Vita, and “all” of the downloadable content purchased for the PlayStation 3 version will work with the PS Vita version.
