Yokai Watch retains top sales position.

Yokai Watch

Yokai Watch leads this week’s Japanese sales chart. The 3DS game, first launched in July last year and with a sequel set for later this year, moved another 59,000 units.

Nintendo’s Mario Golf: World Tour follows in second with 29,000 sales. The 3DS game is in its second week at the market with 76,000 total units sold.

The rest of this week’s sales are pretty lackluster, with older titles like Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind and Mario Kart 7 appearing in the top 20 in the 3,000 to 4,000 sales range.

Hardware sales have decreased by a few thousand compared to last week, as well, which weren’t very great to begin with.

saw so many 3DS games on top and thought “Wow, it must have sold around 80,000 portables” and it’s not even half

  • MyBodyIsReady

Sword art online still kicking, got confirmation of a European release today too :)

    • Renaldi Saputra

comparing the PSP series, this one does better, bcos the PSP one got killed by KH games.
But from 30k into 15k is a quite big decrease

      • JonathanisPrimus

Very few games are Yokai Watch, Rinaldi. Sales typically drop every week after release.

  • Ksatmata

SAO HF still putting a fight backed up by Vita while fighting against 3DS LL
compared to a few weeks before, this is the time where 3DS dominating the top 20 games sales

  • Unretributed

This weeks’ top 20 software sales combined = less than 220,000.
This weeks’ combined hardware sales = 80,469

    Basically this week sucked.

  • uhawww

Yokai Watch hitting that Pokemon stride.
Easy to say the multimedia blitz has been rather successful, and YW2 should be a monster.

Decent legs for SAO and Vita hardware.
Really nice software releases for that platform going through the summer should give it a lot of continued traction.

Overall, numbers are still very sluggish week to week.

  • Vayne

Impressed that other niche games are not selling.

  • Shippoyasha

Yokai Watch is poised to be a world wide hit if they play the cards right.
I just wish Level-5 stops pussyfooting around with localizations.

    • Renaldi Saputra

maybe they just wait for the right time

    • Eder García

Pokemon came out in 1996 in japan and 2 years later was released in the US… looks like Yokai Watch will follow the same path

    • Chestnut Bowl

Level-5 has proven that they cannot do ‘world wide hits’. They can tap into the Japanese market almost as well as Nintendo, but their success outside of Japan is pitiful for such a prolific developer.

  • Pyrofrost

No big new releases and the #1 game is a game that is almost a year old. Where is the surprise?

    • Hidayat246

Special thanks for Yokai Watch (Anime)

  • Eder García

    Nintendomination? wow… what caused that?

those GTA sales!!! i wanna know if western companies are going to push their AAA games in Japan from now on.
insert mandatory Vita TV support commentary here.

  • XypherCode

Wow no PS4 game in sight and it stil surpassed the Wii U. Must really be a hype thing for consoles.

    • Chestnut Bowl

History writes the tale: if you want Japanese console games from most developers, you grab a Playstation.

      • miyamoto

Well said, brotha. My investment on PS3 paid off really well. I got the best of the east and the west.

  • Claude

Wow the PS4 is dropping like a rock despite more support than Wii U. least we know what Nintendo has planned soon, I can’t think of anything Sony can whip up anytime soon and most 3rd party big guns like FF15 and KH3 are years out.

    • Oliver Teigaga

All the PS4 has had is two multiplatform titles (MSG: Ground Zero/FFXIV). In the same time the Wii U had Mario, Dragon Quest X and Monster Hunter Ultimate… Its gonna be a tough year for the ps4 over there but I think Deep Down is probably gonna be quite big and thats arriving this year.

Also I’m not sure FFXV is “years” out. I’ll be surprised if it doesnt arrive in Japan in 2015.

      • Claude

Isn’t Deep Down digital only? I can see it catching on in the west but I don’t think that’s going to move any consoles in Japan.
Also you can’t bee too cautious when dealing with FF Versus/XV’s date.

        • Oliver Teigaga

yeah, its free time but I’m pretty sure it will have a retail release in Japan just like PSO2 did.

Its online co-op monster hunting and grinding. It will definitely do something for the PS4.

  • Anime10121

Have sales been good at ALL since the tax hike?

    • 武神水樹

Sales have been slow even before the tax hike hit

      • Anime10121

Yeah I know sales in Japan havent really been that great for a few years now unless something major happened (like a console release or a big game), but I dont remember it ever looking this grim consistently :(

        • 武神水樹

Well normally Spring is slow for games

          • Anime10121

Hopefully that’s all that it is…
